And welcome back to the Blood Spectrum Podcast, everyone. We are here recording live from the graduation party of the oh nope nope nope we have to change it and we officially upgraded, evolved, uh uh graduated the name from Lady. She's no longer Legacy Sama, she is now Legacys. Legacy senpai, that's amazing. Um a senpai of physical therapy, many, many years of a uh hard, arduous process, but she's accomplished it. She's been given her uh her diplomoma, what I'm talking about, her degree, her progress. So we are very, very happy we've all joined her here to celebrate her and give her her kudos. You are amazing. Uh, and we will talk about her all throughout this podcast. Uh but of course, today, actually, while we are here live at her graduation party, we're actually going to do a live review. Well, maybe not live, but it's pre-recorded, but a review of Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness. All of our panelists have watched it. Okay. All of our panelists have watched it, and they will give their feedback. They will give you a channel.
SPEAKER_09Wait, did you ask you now if all of us have seen the movie? There's a couple of people that I have to have to have to. Yeah, learn today.
SPEAKER_11So uh we are here to critique and uh uh give our feedback on how the movie was to us after all of the previous shows uh on Disney Plus as well as the previous movies in the NCU. But of course, as always, I must introduce our panelists. I've been asked, and I feel like I'm being held at gunpoint to make sure I reinforce the introduction to our panelists. Starting with myself, the hostess with the most is your moderator, Su Chi no Shogun. I have the wind beneath your wings, the ninja between the hidden leaves, your kazei, your shinryu, kazei shinryu. I have the samurai's of hip-hop soul, I have the doctor who has lost her mind in love with her her joke or her deadpool. I have the uh Shammy B, the coat biceps, the individual who who who who biceps and cops her up on a daily basis. I have Sham Too bracelets.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_11I have the the professor, the the uh the instructor, the the the presenter, uh philosophy. Oh we get bougie in the first, I guess. The bougie of ethics, the morals, uh your your way to realizing who you are. Also known as Blue Professor Batty, uh the black macall. That was the man. We have we have our first uh our first doctor of the podcast, uh, the individual who has given us all of our hey, is that correct? Uh our individual who has fact-checked us on anything medical. Uh now he has backup, of course, but the the doctor who watching, the doctor uh of microbiology, the individual who we just kind of call the doctor. Wait a minute.
unknownYou don't know you made a doctor who hunting.
SPEAKER_14Everyone calls doctor the show's club. I didn't know that. Yeah, I know it's what makes sense.
SPEAKER_07When you rewind it, you'll hear it. I might cut that up now.
SPEAKER_11Anyway, um we also have the the essence of uh fertility, the the radio of the thing the one who bursts a new essence into the theory. The one who bursts new life into new creations on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis. Uh this individual, she, uh that didn't help you at all, did it?
SPEAKER_14This individual was a new sincerity right now. You came to your stay.
SPEAKER_11This individual, she gave new life to Black Fey Day with multiple, uh, multiple knock-out uh cospages uh things that changed the way that we looked at Black Fey Day. Honestly, we were not ready. We were minding our business, and she decided to stab us in our eyeballs. The one, the only Siam A Cospower.
SPEAKER_08Well, we got too many aunties and mamas that want this universe to be working on.
SPEAKER_07You're gonna make her take an extra beach.
SPEAKER_11And then, of course, we have the one who has the age down hidden rainbow. The one who is able to surf across the entire uh uh uh You are really handling it up to the house. The entire cacophony of imagery and she brings new meaning to the definition of clock closet cosplay because this individual could come out right now with a cosplay and you wouldn't even know why because this she wants you to what? Mr. Rainbow, we act it as if we're all in the same room.
unknownAnd why?
SPEAKER_11Literally, and of course we have to introduce how are you this individual is Brent, Brand Spiking New. She had to do off camera so the people can see come in this past few weeks. Uh she's already put in a lot of work in terms of helping us ham up and create new ideas for both our social media and our ideas of creativity for podcast episodes. Uh, she will be seen at some of our upcoming uh uh conventions that we'll be in in the next couple of months. Uh she's already picked her alias, which is which is interesting because most of our guest stars have to stutter step while they're on the episode. So, matter of fact, so I don't mess it up, this is the best time to give your best radio voice and tell them exactly who you are.
SPEAKER_08Well, good morning, good evening, good afternoon. I am Miss Lady Giovanni.
SPEAKER_01First of all, she runs the team.
SPEAKER_13I love it. You will never be the very best because she's already the very best.
SPEAKER_07So, yes, that was like a 15 minutes of intros. I think that's more than enough. Uh so let's go ahead and get into it.
SPEAKER_11So, as I said, we're going to be reviewing uh Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness. Now, this is a movie that we've been in anticipation for for the last couple of years. Uh they have pushed it back several times. We didn't call years.
SPEAKER_12I've been waiting for the second Doctor Strange movie for almost seven years. Titan seven moves. That's a time. They're not on that Kingdom Hearts time, but I still need to be sooner.
SPEAKER_10Y'all still wait for Kingdom Hearts 4. First of all, we're waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3. Wait for it.
SPEAKER_11And they played.
SPEAKER_10It was short as not a Kingdom Hearts episode. Let me find it. Uh it's not.
SPEAKER_11So yeah, so with Multiverse of Madness, of course, uh there were there was a lot of speculation. We had panelists who duck and dodged from trailers and reviews. Matter of fact, there was a trailer in the theater of the movie, and they actually closed their eyes and their ears and ducked to their heads. I sure the fuck did and kiss their bum goodbye. Uh they uh we had other panelists who hadn't even watched it until today before the actual episode. So this should be a very interesting review back and forth and uh kind of just conversation. It's not gonna be a conversation of exactly what took place in this movie. Uh I've had uh I think what we should just go ahead and do is jump right into all of the ancient people who had bad things to say about this movie. Because personally, I felt like it was great because anybody amongst our pendulums, or oh I'm sorry, I'm about to introduce our final member, our live studio audience!
SPEAKER_07And we appreciate every six of y'all, yes. Oh, it might see.
SPEAKER_11So might see both you, yeah. Of course, I've spoken to uh almost all of our panelists today and asked them, you know, what was their feelings behind the movie? How did they feel? Was it bad? Was it good? Was it better than they expected? Was it more than their expectations? Was it worse than they thought? Did they yearn for more? Um, because I heard a lot of bad things on the internet. So what I would like to do is actually start with each of our panelists giving what they believe is the worst take on the movie that they saw on social media or heard from somebody. Um I've heard things uh along the lines of this was a uh this was their chance to do a uh Wanda movie instead of a Doctor Strange movie, and they failed back, but failed terribly at Mr. Good at it. Um I heard in other things of if I don't know why I decided to do scary shit, that's not what Disney's all about.
SPEAKER_01You need to give that a day.
SPEAKER_04First of all, so I'm wondering, because I feel like if we all give our takes or our like opinions to start with, that would be a good foundation for you know the our critiques of I guess the opinions about the movie. No doubt.
SPEAKER_07You so damn well stolen.
SPEAKER_11Well the doctor would you like to be good?
SPEAKER_12I I guess I so.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, so I mean, overall I I enjoyed it a lot. You know, I really I kind of knew that I was going to enjoy it, and I did enjoy it very, very much. Um I will say a little bit of a caveat about the movie. So or not about the movie, but the circumstances. So I saw this on Friday, and I was very drunk when I saw it.
SPEAKER_09Very, very drunk. Um you said your own verse.
SPEAKER_04I was telling a friend earlier, one shot, two shots, red shot, blue shot, big one shot. So and then we saw it. But um, but no, but like I so there's a lot I really, really liked about it. Um in general, like I've always enjoyed the way they displored Scarlet Witch. Uh she's far and away one of my favorite Marvel characters. I'm loving that she's been getting this spotlight recently because for a while, outside of, you know, she has like recognition in the comics, but in a lot of the other media that's consumed enough, like video games, like other movies, we didn't see as much of her. So I love, you know, I love that seeing more spotlight. And if there's one thing, probably the thing that I enjoyed most about the movie, um, it's funny that you mentioned like, oh, people criticizing like it being like the horror elements and whatnot. I love that they incorporate horror elements. I absolutely enjoy it.
SPEAKER_13They're working on the main slips on the precipice of the snow.
SPEAKER_04Okay, but yeah, no. I actually really enjoyed the use of horror elements. And I thought that I enjoyed the interplay between that and the action elements. Um, I know that was a criticism that many people had, but I originally thought that, like I like, I liked what was done. I actually thought that if you're someone who likes horror movies but doesn't like action movies as much, that's a good entry point. Very good. You know, and overall, um, I enjoyed a lot of the progression, the pacing, it kept me engaged. Um probably the one criticism I would have, and this is this is something I took a smaller issue with in WandaVision, even though I love WandaVision. Right. But the whole um, you know, her kind of turning into or her questionable motives for like semi-billness motives in the WandaVision, I thought, uh, it wasn't, it wasn't explained in a way that I thought was really satisfying, and I didn't like the way that that kind of panned out. And I think they doubled down on that in a way that made less sense to me. You know, I think that, and you know, I think the whole um we we can get spoiler, right? Yeah, of course. Okay, so the whole like her being this primary antagonist in it, um, I think they use it as they kind of like say, oh well, it has to do with um, what is it, the dark hole like influencing her and whatnot.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, but they try to.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I I've always hated that kind of explanation, the possession stroke being employed. I think it's a lazy way to kind of justify morally complex situations. But I think like when you're comparing this to sort of analogy, like that was a much more morally comp that was a morally complex situation, but you know, it also because it was so focused on her grief and whatnot, you know, I think I think it was a little more nuanced. It felt less nuanced. It did. And it felt like I really like, I don't know, I didn't care for you know that, or I guess the way they kind of justify that.
SPEAKER_03So you thought one division did better?
SPEAKER_04I think one division did it better towards its ending compared to you know her being an academy seeker. And of course that I did in the world, but um, you know, overall I think that was my biggest crap. Um and so I do get that criticism on law. I don't know because that's also like people to say like she just done horribly in this, which I don't agree with. I don't agree with that. You know, but yeah, that's a big thing. But um but no, but I do think that there is room for critique in her life.
SPEAKER_14Oh, right.
SPEAKER_04But overall, I do think I did really enjoy her progression. And I love Dr. Strange. Um I wanted to love America more, but we didn't get enough of her, okay. I thought like she was slightly more than a um a flat device, but not more enough. Right. Like a doctor.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, exactly. Thank you. Ooh, okay. One point. One point. Under five minutes. Under two minutes. Ooh.
SPEAKER_06Damn!
SPEAKER_11Okay, one last Dr. Legislatus.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_12I heard that.
SPEAKER_13So, I do want to push back a little bit. I think that the way that Wanda behaved in this movie was actually a culmination of everything that we've seen her go through since the big since her introduction in Asia Ultron. Like, I think that everything that happened to her, everything that she did in this movie made, I think it actually did make sense. And that's partly because one, we do have the dark hole as like an influence to like amplify the madness, quotation marks, and especially in the title that came along with all of her actions. But like if we look at the continuum of everything that happened to her, from her losing, literally losing her family to Tony Stark's like explosives, then we moved to her joining Ultron because of everything that happened to her life. Because her losing her family led to her joining Hydra, and that led to her join, ultimately joining Ultron. And then that led to her being a part, after realizing what was going on with Ultron, and you know, ended up having her join the events because she would have died ultimately if she stayed by Ultron side because Ultron was trying to destroy the world, and then she lost her brother in the midst of that, and then she fell in love with vision, and then she ended up losing vision in Infinity War, and then after losing vision in Infinity War, she went on to have Wanda Vision in which she had this entire fantasy that she created impassively and lost her husband and her children, and then moved on to this movie where she the only thing that she was trying to get back to is her children, because everything that she lost up until that point. Don't look at me like that. Um she lost up until that point. Like every like Wanda's story is extremely tragic. It's like we've been watching a villain in the making because every part of every every part of her story that we've seen has been grounded in supreme insight, loss, and trauma. And we expected her to be over most of that by WandaVision. And then in WandaVision, we see her have the thing that she wants and then loses all of it. And then we find her in multiverse of madness. And a lot at the end of WandaVision, finding, seeing that she can get access to the thing that she had before, i.e. her children, and fixating that in multiverse of madness, and the dark hole being the thing that amplifies the like the chaotic aspect of that by completely like what we're looking for. Not vascularizing, that's a strong word, but nothing. That's a lot of letters. That's a lot of letters.
SPEAKER_04I'm like, that's not that many letters.
SPEAKER_11Corrupting! Corrupting! Before you finish, I'm gonna say two things. Two, like I said, you got three minutes. Two, how are you pushing back on the doctor's point? Because it seems like we agree with the doctor's point. The only difference is you're saying that it was more chaotic spin. No, no, no, no, no, I'm pushing back on the documentary. Versus the doctor saying that he felt like he didn't think they should use the dark hold as a plot point or as a reason why she was possessed.
SPEAKER_13Well, no, the dark hold wasn't the reason why she was possessed. The dark hold was simply the conduit for her being able to access what she truly wanted. But it was the influence of the dark hold, like we also saw in the movie with the other Doctor Strangers, like the Dark Hold corrupts. Like, so like it didn't take away her want, but it actually corrupted her as a person. Which is what the doctor said he didn't like. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, I don't think it corrupted her at all.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I was about to say, I was saying if that was a pushback that it didn't corrupt her, I would agree with that. The doctor was specifically saying using the dark hold to say that she was corrupted more or corrupted in any way, shape, or form, he didn't like.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't know if there's the one person in this that wasn't corrupted by the dark hold. I think she was corrupted by loneliness and the pressure.
SPEAKER_13I don't think it was so much that she was corrupted by her loneliness and the pressing. I think it was more so that the idea that the dark hold was that kind of plot device that took advantage more so of that.
SPEAKER_07But I don't think it was just the no no, it was just the the the forefront was her wanting her kids. Right. That's like the whole gist and whatever. Even before she got all the other jiggy jazz. But like the dark hold, I'm sorry, the dark hold. Like the dark hold just kind of just like you said, like it kind of amplified, put the the fire under her ass to be like, but how I got it.
SPEAKER_01I don't even think she needed that.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I was gonna say, like she didn't she didn't need the dark hole, honestly.
SPEAKER_11To me, I think the dark hole was like the dark hole made her any more. Exactly.
SPEAKER_08It was like a piece of a puzzle.
SPEAKER_11It's like a dark hole was a a summation of whatever she had already started or whatever they were waiting for. Like she was gonna do it. She was already. It just made it easy.
SPEAKER_08I just took over a whole town. You think I can't take over what I want?
SPEAKER_13But that's the thing, but like at the end of WandaVision, we don't we see her using the dark hole. But she doesn't know what it is. Exactly. But we we learn later that the the accessing the dark hole is what corrupts the individual. Right.
SPEAKER_11What they what they explained at the end of the movie was that the dark hole was nothing but written pages from the temple that was built in her honor. Yeah. So all of the magic incantations and All of the runes that were in the dark hole are assemblance of the power that she already has. Because, as you all know from WandaVision, they taught uh Agnes talked about the fact that the calling of the Star of the Witch is all of the information that's inside of what was the name of that temple again? Wanda something? Wanda or WandaCore? Wanda? All that information that's there is just a kind of uh um oh fuck uh it's kind of a combination of explanation of what she's gonna do eventually. So my thinking is she didn't get more corrupted, my thinking is a prophecy.
SPEAKER_08But we saw that.
SPEAKER_11I literally was thinking of Raven's prophecy when I was saying that. I just didn't know what it was called.
SPEAKER_08We saw that in WandaVision, though. When she finally squared off with one of the citizens, she finally learned that the citizen was an actual witch. The witch had history and knew who she was before she even knew. Right. Right. So it's just her coming into herself and her true form.
SPEAKER_07It was always in there. It was always in there.
SPEAKER_13It just but her accessing the multiverse would not have been a thing without the dark hold.
SPEAKER_11At that particular moment, but but that's a great, but just that's what I'm saying. The point that the doctor was making was he did not like that the dark hold was a conduit for that, her becoming chaotic.
SPEAKER_07No, no, it was the perpetuation that the the dark hold was the the conduit. She always had that. She didn't need no damn money. She didn't need the bad thing. She had it.
SPEAKER_11There's nobody in there. I'm sorry, but let me before I say that's what you're saying. Is that what you were saying? Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Before I keep speaking for this, let me let uh uh uh Chammy V go. See, see that stuff?
SPEAKER_03No, honestly, I think I don't know if this was your actual reason your actual issue with it, but my issue with that was I think it was the reason why they used a dark hole as a guff or as a lightning rod to her lightning was bad lighting. I think they could have okay, that's that's fine. So honestly, they could have explained it better if they used her loneliness, her what for her children without her having vision would have been a lot better of a story, a lot better of a story piece and a lot better to write about than to say, oh, it was a dog code that corrupted her, it's yeah, it's it's kind of like this kind of we needed this, but it was really wide all along, and this is just her loneliness.
SPEAKER_04It was wild all exactly and you know, and this really just helps me articulate, I guess, what my core issue is a little bit more. Where so with brief storylines, with storylines of a villain motivated by grief and such or the hero turning into a villain motivated by toleration. Right. There's this balance when it comes to the level of like moral complexity, the level of justification, and how interesting that, how interesting a villain comes out of that. So I think WandaVision actually balanced that quite well. I think there was, you're like, oh god, she's holding a town prisoner, but she has all this grief and all this trauma built up, you know, in the movies too. Like, I think they towed that line really delicately, but really. I think I think in Multiverse of Madness, it just it tilted a little bit too much. Where she did Wanda. Uh onto this Wanda turning into or feeling more like, okay, this is it's less, you're a less complex villain than you were. That's how it feels. And it's not really, I guess making sense is not the right word, but I think more so it's just not as interesting.
SPEAKER_08Now, do you think they did that because it was a Doctor Strange movie and they needed that beast?
SPEAKER_12It's not a Doctor Strange movie, like this. Which is what another beach.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like that, like they put his name there to attract the customers because they didn't know how WandaVision attracted people. And they heard mixed reviews about WandaVision. But really, this is a Wanda movie.
SPEAKER_07Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03That's what it felt like.
SPEAKER_13So I don't think it was a Wanda movie. I think Wanda was in this movie in the same way. Doctor Strange has been in a number of other movies that weren't specifically about him, that he had a pivotal role in at the same time.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but the difference was Yeah, you made her all what comedy.
SPEAKER_02Compared to what? When Doctor Strange is in those other movies, they didn't name it Doctor Strange in the multiverse. Right.
SPEAKER_13So the thing that I so the thing that I think made this more so with Doctor Strange movie, and I was talking to Kazi about this earlier, was that I watched another video about Live Strip and Kog and analysis of this movie, and a lot of this movie was more specifically about the concept of control of one's fate. Right? And so a lot of this movie hinged on a lot of the decisions that Doctor Strange made, and as well as a lot of the decisions that a number of his variants made in these other universes, and what that ended up meaning for those other universes. We even saw in What If what a variant of Doctor Strange's like need to control everything ended up like looking like for the rest of the like this man's variant literally destroyed the entirety of that time, of that reality because he could not let his bitch die. And then we see that this similar action happened with another variant of his. Maybe not like, you know, in terms of Christine like living or dying, but we saw that another variant of his deteriorated the entirety of that universe because he was completely and totally in control. And at the beginning of the movie, we saw that like a former colleague of his was like, oh, well, you know, like how come you had to be the one, be the one to make the decision. And even Christine like spoke to him like, you always have to be the one to hold the knife. You have to be the one who makes that decision. And in Dr. Strange's defense, I do think that, you know, regardless of how he makes the decision, he makes, he does, he does what he thinks is best for literally the entire creation of all things, right? Because even we see in like the beginning when um he is taking, he chooses to take America's power. He's like in the grand calculus of the multiverse, this is the best thing. This is not this is the best thing. Your life means absolutely nothing in the entirety of in the objective like perspective of all creation in terms of the multiverse. And so when we look at how Doctor Strange is involved in all these things, like, yeah, like the concept of control is central to him and actually, I think, in my opinion, balances him and Wanda in terms of this thing.
SPEAKER_03So to that I gotta say, I think that was the trip. Because they started the movie off talking about how why do you want to send the leader one whole life and really don't make a decision came down to Wanda. I think it came down mostly to America.
SPEAKER_13Because at the end of the, because in the final act, he didn't make the decision. He turned to America. He didn't take America's power, he didn't try and do anything to Wanda. He looked towards America and said, You have the power, you have the ability.
unknownTo someone who did not have any idea of how to control the power that she had and said, You can do this.
SPEAKER_13And you have been doing this. Right, and you have been. You have the ability to do so.
SPEAKER_08He finally let go of the knife.
SPEAKER_13He let go of the knife. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that was. That's a great session.
unknownThat was great.
SPEAKER_08I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_07I meant to think it, but it just came out loud.
SPEAKER_11What we got? Are we doing numbers? Like rating scales? Yeah, we were going to after we did this part. Okay. But I didn't think this part would kind of say we didn't do it now. In my defense, you know. I forgot that someone was going to come into this episode completely as a defense attorney for Dr.
unknownString. I think I think completely.
SPEAKER_13And there are two things I love. I love my tribal. She's from the rains, and uh the sources agree Dr. String.
unknownI never heard that.
SPEAKER_11So we should want to branch off into multiple multiverses. So we're gonna just stray away from that question first. Um so what I'm gonna do.
SPEAKER_00What did we think of the movie? Right.
SPEAKER_11Right. So we're gonna do the I mean actually the original question was uh what were some of the uh negative things that you heard about the movie online? That was the initial question.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_08Uh so uh sorry, um I didn't hear anything negative about the movie in particular, uh, probably because I've been avoiding social media. Um so I didn't even know that um Dr. Stream was coming out until recently. I haven't really been on like Facebook or anything, I've been to Jacky with um what I did hear uh from uh Talonflame was that he said that he wished the movie was longer. So that was what he told me. He was like, you're gonna love it, but I wish it was longer. And then I heard from another person that they said it was more of like a horror movie. And I was like, okay. You were like, okay, I'm gonna do it. Yeah, you know, everybody who knows me, they know that I love sci-fi, they know that I love horror. So I was curious to think how Sam Rainey, the person who the grudge, was gonna pull this off. The grudge. The grudge of Spider-Man. Because it's actually the actor, and people are very, very much cash. So um, it was either gonna be a hit or miss. Um, I would say we can't do rains now. Um, it was a little bit less than what I expected. I I I kept hearing people hype it up, and I which I don't like. Because when I hear people saying, oh my god, it's amazing, it's amazing, what's the worst? No, it's just like I have this, I would say, unfair reasoning behind why it probably's gonna be amazing. And so when I watched, I'm like, it was good, but it didn't, it didn't fit the bill, so to speak. Because the reason I I don't like Marvel, to be honest. I'm a DC, I'm a DC fan all the way, but I'm suffering, I'm suffering.
SPEAKER_12I think I'm suffering.
SPEAKER_08I'm just that's an episode. I am fair. I am your legs. I am I don't like Marvel because it was too kiddie for me. But I to be fair, there are elements of Marvel that I do enjoy. Like I love X-Men and I love Doctor Strange. They have a lot of big hits and a lot of myths for me. That's why I can appreciate Marvel. Doctor Strange was one of my favorites, if not my favorite superhero. Because he was a dick, but he was very smart. Very smart, but also um we have that in common his ability to warp. I would say this kind of illusion of warping reality to me was very fascinating. It reminded me of Inception. I love the cerebral you're kind of that mirror scene. Oh, it was it plus it's the visuals.
SPEAKER_07Yes.
SPEAKER_08You know, as an artist, the visuals was just otherworld. That's a world. Okay, but that's a big other visuals.
unknownI'm okay.
SPEAKER_11I'm just gonna go to you when she raised her hand.
SPEAKER_08I'm gonna. I'm giving all the pros out because I have cons. And why it's not the spectacular movie that I was anticipating. So the reason why Doctor Strange had me the chokehold, the first movie. Not a dark hole, but a chokehold. No, chokehold. It was because you just it's one of those movies where you cannot watch it on a regular tease. You have to be fully immersed in an IMAX theater because you're going to miss how spectacular everything is. You almost just leave the movie theater's sun, like, what the fuck did I just watch? And I didn't get that for this movie. I did it. It wasn't the same vibe because I think and I love drunk, wasn't she? No, no, you know I don't drink. I was like, first of all, you know I was so I was done with the problem. So it it I was expecting um similar elements from the first movie.
SPEAKER_07Like when I tried to circumstance back.
SPEAKER_08I wanted to be like lost, like individuals, like like like I felt like I wanted to in another world. Even with all now, I will say that there was a lot of beautiful moments, constant beautiful moments, like when America broke through different universes. They were paint. Like that's insane. Um, wait, let's go back. And I would say that as a uh well, I don't want to give a full review, but I would say the movie had wonderful moments that you can even when she started walking through the friggin' mirror, like that was a shundow. You know, so there was wonderful moments in it, but it didn't get the same effect. And I was disappointed because even though I didn't even know Wanda was even the focal point of the movie. I was sad in the thing that I think. I had no idea. I agree. It was I wasn't I like the way the way the trailer went, you would have thought she would have been his ally in that. I didn't watch the trailer. I didn't know. I mean, no, no, I'm just saying. But I like Vicky. You see, I didn't watch the trailer, so I went in completely blind.
SPEAKER_11As you shouldn't.
SPEAKER_08As as I should though. I don't think that's a good idea.
SPEAKER_11No, no, I mean you shouldn't have watched the trailer sometimes. Oh, oh, yeah. As you should, go on the show. Gotcha, gotcha.
SPEAKER_08Um, but um I didn't like how I feel like Wanda's progression reverted in a weird way. Reverted in terms of back in character development. Like from what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_11What's interesting is the doctor said of the doctor, the Black McCoy said the very close to the same thing when the movie was about to end was that a lot of the things in terms of ability, was that the cosmic the abilities that Wanda was using, it seemed like they had kind of pulled her back to kind of a, oh, she's just shooting high blasts, but she's not doing all of the things that we had progressively made her do up to Wanda. No, she's still real.
SPEAKER_03I thought she still was reality bended in terms of powers because she's just I'm not supposed to probability.
SPEAKER_11She's supposed to be reality-bended. Yeah, goblins black ball.
SPEAKER_04I'm talking about general character.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I'm not talking about because I feel like she could have done a lot more damage if she wanted to. And she did specify being nice to y'all. And I think it's because she was being nice the entire time. So I do I do like that. She was still with holy the entire time. She didn't go in here like she could have. But um, her character, it was like one bad.
SPEAKER_13So, interesting part about that. So, one of the things that I noticed about the film was Wanda with so specifically that scene with Professor X, when he went into her mind to try and save her to keep the Scarlet Witch personas from fully taking over. I think that that part of her trying to be nice might have been that little bit of her that was like held up.
SPEAKER_08But that wasn't her, remember? That was the one in that universe that she told.
SPEAKER_13But I mean, like that scarlet witch aspect of her that was like in the mind specifically, right? I think that there was, there might have been, and like this is entirely theoretical, so I think it might have been a song from the two. So like that entire like moment when Professor X was in her mind, like he wasn't, because the alternate universe version of her took over the mind of that wanda in that universe, it may not have been that she was specifically talking to that wanda. He could have been talking to the Wanda that was the consciousness of that wanda that was literally in that mind. And the reason I don't I don't want to get too far too deep into it, and that's probably because the philosophy of mind itself is already extremely complicated more or less.
SPEAKER_03But like wrap it up, baby.
SPEAKER_13For all intents and purposes, if the consciousness of the wanda from the universe that jumped into the mind of the wanda that was in 8. What were you? 81. I have to say in that project of the universe, like I think that the reason she was the reason she was like being nice was because there was still an aspect of her that was trying to like fight back in some way, shape, or form.
SPEAKER_08Which I understand, but WandaVision gave us a wonderful I loved WandaVision because it took its time showing proper character development, which we don't see often in general. So you have all this character development, and now the movie just kind of like the shadows. So I like that. Well, all her pipeline in general, from the time we first get introduced to Wanda in general, it's trauma. Because we get to learn about her time in Russia, her time and time with her parents. Yes, so we we learn about that. And then moving on to the next movie, it's even more trauma. Losing her brother. Each movie we see her in, she's in some type of traumatic environment. So for the movie in general, me seeing Wanda just have a real first of all have a realization thanks to that young girl, like, yo, this is who you're turning into, you're curious. Um I feel like that is the limit to her character development because all she has is trauma. She never had her happy ending because she had to forcefully create it from her own her own powers. She was never able to just relax. She lost her brother. She lost the one person that she was able to love twice.
SPEAKER_13And she had to kill the brother she was able to love.
SPEAKER_08And she had to murder, she also had to murder her own love just for Doctor Strange to completely make that whole entire thing useless. Twice. I would understand if WandaVision ended like she left the other thing up. And it didn't. And that's why the issue.
SPEAKER_02I can feel like I did.
SPEAKER_08But she ended it with the book. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she was on the demand. She was doing it. She was doing the double thing. She was doing the double thing, I understand.
SPEAKER_08Okay, I I can't I guess I compare Wanda with Mystique in a way. They never were heroes. Yeah, they never they never were heroes to begin with. But Mystique was more of not one, not one for all, but all for one. She was more of she wasn't selfish. Right. The thing is, Wanda had selfishness from the get-go. She just wanted her own happiness. She didn't give a fuck about anybody else's. That is true.
SPEAKER_04Like I get the trauma, you know, as a justification. Right, right. But it was done to me in a much less interesting way.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
SPEAKER_13Much lost the film or like Wanda's entire context. It was dividing.
SPEAKER_08It was the writing. And I go back to uh Sammy B about the writing. I think that's why I'm having issues because it how they organized it, it could have come up a lot more eloquent than what it did.
SPEAKER_03Well, I wonder if it has something to do with the fact they changed directors a little bit too. Because they because they Sam Sam Raimi was never the same director. They had no between in the movie itself. Because there was a different director at the start of that movie before Sam Raimi came in. Oh, I didn't know. It took over. Yeah. I don't know who it was before that. But they were actually trying, I guess the previous director was trying to make it more of a horror movie and more of a serious horror movie. Sam Raimi came in because of his ability to make a horror slash comic.
SPEAKER_08I I love that they had the horror elements in there, and they should have been who they are. Because um it was beautiful. And it should have been, I knew Disney would never. But it should have been. I um got some jump scares in there that got it. It was, it was, but I feel like um it was the directing, and it was a wander movie, and it took away why I paid to go see Doctor Strange. So I was, I wanted to see Doctor Strange in action, and I mean I would have paid for Wanda too, separately.
SPEAKER_03Well, I think that was the reason why they did it that way, because they were afraid after WandaVision. I honestly think WandaVision scared a lot of people. So I think like because though we may have liked it, a lot of people do it.
SPEAKER_08Oh really? Yeah, a lot of people did not care for WandaVision. So jump off the viewers when you say that they did it in a boring way. The way they ended WandaVision and the way they started Doctor Strange interacted feels like a pickup from WandaVision.
SPEAKER_12It does.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you see her just meditating and looking at the book, and then you see her and Doctor Strange when they finally talk, and then she just wipes her in her like I was lying the whole entire time. I've been messing with the book.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, absolutely. And I think that initial transition feels smooth. I know, but her character just kind of decays as the movie goes on and on and on. What do you say? No, it's bad writings on a good pot.
unknownYeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_13My first question is what is bad about her decay as a character?
SPEAKER_11I think the main issue is kind of what we normally see in a lot of the MCU or just any like superhero or action movie, is when you have a movie, it they don't have the time because of all the explosions and shit to fully grow a character or fully flesh out what the character is trying to do. But in WandaVision, you had a full, what was it, 10, 12, 11, 8 episodes to fully 10 episodes, thank you, to fully grow Wanda and grow this story that they're trying to tell.
SPEAKER_13Is it more so that like that transition here between WandaVision and multiverse events, we get a gap in time. We don't get to see her like fully be corrupted by the hole. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_12We just come back and it's like, oh, yeah, I can't.
SPEAKER_11And that's like if you're gonna go into the direction that the Dark Hold was corrupting her, then yes. Because I think that was the whole point of the show. I understand. And just like Kazu was saying, at the end of Monday, that last scene is her sitting in her cabin or floating. Mom!
SPEAKER_10What?
SPEAKER_03I think dark holds everybody but her. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_09I think she's saying it influenced her. I think the movie points out multiple times that that's what the Dark Holds does. Now, and and sometimes corruption is just giving you what you want? Yeah, giving you the ability to do what you want. But because you know, because sometimes it's like, you know, I would do a lot of things I shouldn't do if I had a billion dollars. You gave that to me. Facts.
SPEAKER_14I gotta I gotta look at that game and I'm gonna. I mean, so you gotta tell me ultimate. I keep telling you, ultimately, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. Some things I never saw in the shop before. Right, right.
SPEAKER_09Might not turn out well for some people. So, you know, so I mean, so especially like for somebody who was like going through who's in in the throes of grief. And the thing that got me specifically was her dreams was the lives of these wanders, raising their children. Yeah. That was all she wanted. What she made by accident. What she thought she had. And lived with. Like that was the part that got me. It was like, oh, oh, you were like, I think, I think, I think there's an intrinsic assumption in one and like for character development in someone that we think is a is a hero to get better. And that's just not what, that's not where we were. That's not what happened. And so I think that throws a lot of people off. She was she she she dish she did fucked up shit in WandaVision. And then and then and then yeah, and then at the end of WandaVision was kind of like, oh, oh, I I see what I did. Oh my god, that but then dark hole.
SPEAKER_08I think what the dark hole did, because we see that she got a hold of the dark hole after being educated by the wish that she thought. So she had to learn about herself first. And yes, she has everything back up, but then the dark hole just like gave us it a good thing. Oh, you should have to do it. But now you should go. Yeah, but you now you want this. Now you deserve this. So I think it's within reach. It is within reach. So before she thought she couldn't have her sons without wiping out an entire town. And then she's like, oh, now all I need is one little girl to get my voice back.
SPEAKER_13But I also think that something that's really important to acknowledge is that Sam not Sam ring, maybe Kevin Feige also like made it very clear that the events of Loki are what made Wanda's ability to access the fact that she could know that her children existed in another universe were even possible.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, so and so I know an important thing for me that I was really hoping and we never cleared was she never went and found a universe where the Wanda Day was dead and her kids were alive.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
unknownFantastic.
SPEAKER_13She didn't even solution. That was a real dark hole moment. It's like the dark hole is like, if you consider the dark hole as strictly being like incarnate, like it is just simply desire that is completely doing the things that you primordially want and is going to completely influence all of your actions because as long as it is a means to the end to the things that you're after, it doesn't give a I don't give a fuck what it is. But like that is something that is, it was very clear to me that she didn't actually think because she was just concerned about your children. Because that's like you see all these other versions of yourself with your children, and you don't think about the fact that you have to probably kill off another version of yourself just to be with your children.
SPEAKER_09The girl brings brings up that like yo, you are with your children in all these different universes. Like, is is just you? Can could can you get some solids from that? And she's just like, mm-hmm.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_12What's that guy to do with me? No, that's what's kidding us.
SPEAKER_08What did you think about the movie?
SPEAKER_05Alright, so um, so I heard the the negative reviews. I heard multiple people like, oh, I wish the heelings was involved, and uh, and I was like, bruh, how would it be? Oh how would we have gotten that?
SPEAKER_09Bad writing?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Totally called it at the beginning.
unknownSo for me.
SPEAKER_09They wanted, ooh, a multi person. That's what they wanted.
SPEAKER_05So for me, it was just irritating that nobody seemed to appreciate what what we got. Yes. I mean No, I'm just saying, yeah, the internet people. It was just like, okay, how can how can you look at this movie and be like, oh, it should have gone straight to VHS, which I saw. VHS? Yeah. Do you have a DCR? Exactly. But seeing stuff like that, I have to take it with a grand saw and just keep it moving because I I personally enjoyed the movie. Um I'm still so I I'm like CNA in the aspect of like cinematically, it wasn't, it wasn't the first Dr. Trend at all.
SPEAKER_13True.
SPEAKER_05Like that that that monster in the first scene, I was like, who the fuck?
SPEAKER_08Who animated this? I said, what 3D animator did this? It was out of place.
SPEAKER_05It was it was so out of place, it was it did not blend, nothing, no. And the theater was quiet. Literally in the room, like everybody was like, visually, I was over it. I was like, who is this and why we got them here? But anyways, um so yeah, like I was saying, I I enjoyed the movie. Um I am I am all for like representation, like so when they the introduction of America Chavez is like like oh we got representation, we got Latina, we got the LGBTQ up and this bit, like it was it was a very it was a very much like me on screen type feeling. Uh so I was like, okay, this is this is dope. Um Wanda. Um I thoroughly enjoyed everything they did with Wanda. I'm not gonna hold y'all like that. Yes, you know, there there's the oh there's a disconnect. I'm not trying to downplay what y'all was talking about just now. But for me, at the at the end of the day, this is it's still a movie. It's still a two hours movie. Uh could could they have broken it up into two movies, possibly or whatever. But um for for what we got, I thoroughly appreciated what they did with Wanda because for me, it was the first time Marvel didn't downplay an omega level uh an omega level female character in a movie and we and we got to see maybe not maybe not fully what Wanda can do, but it was it was unfiltered, savagery for most of the movie as it relates to her character.
SPEAKER_08So I agree. I I'd have to agree with you, like me personally, I enjoy it. I enjoyed the fact that there was attention on Doctor Strange, and I also enjoyed the fact that um there was also some Wanda elements. Because for one, I read up that there they don't plan on making a WandaVision 2, they don't plan on giving us a second season. So I feel like they helped with that with the movie by giving her more of a story and more of an ending to her. But though we we want WandaVision, we want to see that. But I feel like because they're not giving us that, they made sure that Wanda had a big role within that.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, and she just signed up for another seven years.
SPEAKER_03I thought she just killed that whole idea. She just had a meeting when she killed that whole idea. Or interview when she killed the whole idea of her design.
SPEAKER_13No, it was released that she has another, she she has a movie coming up.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, uh, I know uh I know I know some people some people online was annoyed at how uh how strong she was. So I'll just say you haven't been paying attention.
SPEAKER_03House of M. House of M. House of M. Alright. If anybody had an issue with that, okay, you have an issue with that, read House of M and shut the fuck up.
SPEAKER_09Yeah. Yeah, flip flip. Flip to a random page in any comic she's been in. But the first volume.
unknownYeah, the first volume I have to there.
SPEAKER_09Like, yeah, or she almost killed Panos. He had to kill half his army to get her up off now.
SPEAKER_10Like you took everything from me.
unknownI don't even know.
SPEAKER_10I don't even know who you are.
SPEAKER_13You wouldn't have any. Don't tell me that rainfall.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, like her her her pals are directly tied to her emotions and emotional output. And if you haven't been paying attention to that, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_12Right.
SPEAKER_13I'm not sorry. If there's anything that you have discussed in ad nauseum, it is that the one thing that nerds are bad at. Yes, SAC words are.
SPEAKER_06If it's one thing we can do.
SPEAKER_13It is that the one skill that so many nerds do not have, it is literacy. And that and literacy does not mean just reading, it means watching, it means paying attention to things that you literally are able to see. Literacy expands so many aspects of things. You have to pay attention to every aspect.
SPEAKER_09And it's the consumption and apprehension, comprehension.
SPEAKER_02Captain Marvel does.
unknownThank you.
SPEAKER_01Thank you very much. Captain Marvel, yeah, I got you, but we want to talk about things that people don't pay attention.
SPEAKER_08Everybody was trying to figure out how Captain Marvel died, but then anybody pay attention to that. Wait a minute. Continue. Did anybody not pay attention how Wanda was sucking her powers slowly? Her light died. Like, are y'all talking about how did she die? Because I took that bitch's powers and then I laid the stone on her. Amen. Alright, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_09Also, she's a bad one, don't mean you die. It just means you have to fight.
SPEAKER_14You can't be mad. Right.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_08When she said what mouth, oh back to Dr. Strange.
SPEAKER_03This is a doctor strange.
SPEAKER_08Take away from Wanda just for a second. I do love how they brought in the what-ifs aspect. I love that musical battle that was moving. I will say that with this Doctor Strange movie, it was very different from the first, but we got a lot of new things. Like, who would have thought you could use fucking musical notes to fight it? It was just sick. It was nasty. And then with the dark Doctor Strange from What If as well. Yes. Um, I love if, like, if you're a true Marvel fan, which I'm a fake one, but I watched enough of it to see.
SPEAKER_07Um Let's be honest though.
SPEAKER_08It's great how they're really paying attention to the fans and paying attention to what different artists are pulling, pushing to the table with Marvel, Marvel content, and bring it into movies. Sacred.
SPEAKER_05Um I didn't get to say any of them, but okay. I'm done.
SPEAKER_11Okay. And then lastly, I know somebody's gonna say something about the cloak. Um, so uh final scores from everybody here. I'm gonna cut it in half. We'll probably do a second one of these. Uh we'll go around the board. Your your boat of one uh I said wanted this, you see this too. Your walker strength was multiverse, that's madness multiverse of madness. Uh we'll start with the black McCoy.
SPEAKER_14Wow! How did you do that?
