Okay, so thank you everybody for coming today. Thank you for everybody who's currently on. We've got a lot of people watching right now, and I will have much more. But this is the Blur Spectrum Podcast Live Edition. This is Pokemon. As you can see by the table, we already know who's going to win. Whoa! But I will say, as your moderator, as your moderator showgun, I'm going to introduce our panelists today. Actually, one of our panelists doesn't have a nickname, so we'll see what happens by the time I get to her. Um so starting from the right, or my right, your left, uh, we have shampoo bracelets. We have Sayone, rocking the the Granny Smith today. Good. We have Ms. Skittles, we have the Black McBoy, we have the Doctor, we have Joe, TSF.
SPEAKER_05Sound if you got the story.
SPEAKER_06We're just gonna keep going. So as I said, hey. Uh General T S G we have Parze and introducing for the first time we have I'm raised.
unknownI think I am race as well. I am raised.
SPEAKER_06Or David. I'm very often David? No, you won't know.
SPEAKER_00I'm looking like a test.
SPEAKER_06All right, so as you know if you're tuning in, today is our Dizimob vs. Pokemon episode. Um every single week, our podcast is over different topics between anime, gaming, um, manga, cosplaying, LARPing, uh, cartoons, TV, drama, everything. Uh, this week, uh, based off of several episodes we've had in the past, conversations over the years, and just you know, something that's always been said on the playground, we decided to not necessarily end this feud, but have a heart-to-heart conversation about the fact that everybody who believes Digimon is better than Pokemon is wrong. So, I'm sorry.
unknownMy apologies.
SPEAKER_06So, we're having a conversation about Digimon versus Pokemon. I don't know if I don't work here anymore.
unknownI'm experiencing a lot of violence with other corporate environments.
SPEAKER_06So fast, so uh we're gonna just go ahead and start by going around the table and giving everybody the opportunity just to choose, not choose rather, but to state their case. What is the side that they're on? Obviously, we're not sitting on the side that we may actually be representing, but each person is going to uh kind of state exactly what is the side that they're on and plead their case for that individual cartoonslash anime. Um, and I guess we will start on that side. You want to start with me? Come and start with you. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Just a refiliation.
SPEAKER_00Just your affiliation.
SPEAKER_06Just wrap your hood and say how you got to your hood. You don't have to leave your case just yet.
SPEAKER_10Okay, well, I I'm for the the Pokemon game because that's just where you know tradition is you don't need you gotta go from your home is that's the primary, you know, where where life began for the seller.
SPEAKER_09Because personally, you know, Piggy Mod is Pokemon stuff, but you don't like that.
SPEAKER_03I'm trying to give you a badass thing.
SPEAKER_02So Kaiser? Uh yeah, definitely. Uh team Pokemon just uh definitely came into my came into my life first. It was uh definitely life-changing. Oh yeah, yeah. Always fantastic. Oh T S G don't say that word.
SPEAKER_00So Digimon.
SPEAKER_07I I have to say Digimon, as far as I'm concerned, uh I think the shows play a bigger part for me than the game.
unknownAny sort of Pokemon games for me.
SPEAKER_07Um I think they had a better representation of what both shows are trying to convey. Both shows are trying to convey friendship, both are trying to convey convey uh Pokemon, but I think I'm right.
SPEAKER_06So I don't know Pokemon, the OG. Uh you know, it's I guess you know, I'm busy more on the games, but you know, I think Pokemon for me is so iconic in so many ways.
SPEAKER_00And you know, like so it you know it led to the creation of so many things and butter with your pancake for it.
unknownThat's why you're talking about this.
SPEAKER_04Oh, you'll put it in.
SPEAKER_09But I think I'm dependent today, but we'll have a remember.
SPEAKER_06But yeah, that's the point. The black pack boy. I'm trying to recover from all this diamond that we feel. Um I am, if you have not noticed that's called a team Digimon, and uh always have and always will be. Um that is not to say that I don't have my favorite Pokemon, most of the purple you see in this room right now is probably mine. And the weird one is really interesting, which is uh um Digimon of the ones in the show for me that has had a far more creativity. Um has done the concept approach and tackled much more metaphysical, as well as ethical and moral issues far more than talk about everybody. So um yeah, that's what it was as well as uh the ability to have a consistent continuity that reflects so much more outside of um more protein ideals when it comes to what it means to develop relationships with other people.
SPEAKER_09Yes, honey, yes.
SPEAKER_08Oh, those go hood and how you got this. No, no, that did we miss it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, we missed it, that was just the beginning.
SPEAKER_09So I'm seeing Pokemon and all time. But but not really.
SPEAKER_10Pokemon, I mean, I just grew up with Pokemon and I played the game when I watched the series. I was I mean the whole album came out and I was in the middle of school with the with the end of all like so I mean I mean, so I I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_03That album almost got me.
SPEAKER_05And they were like wrong wrong wrongs.
SPEAKER_09Well, I am team Digimon, and because Pokemon's for children, it's more for mature people. Um actually, I guess you actually saw that in Digimon. You saw more Exactly, and Pokemon was just so childish, and the character design was trash, and you had Digimon, which had these beautiful character designs and evolutions, and that's not even yours.
SPEAKER_06And then why don't you know that this is a dead Pokemon? I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_02And we hate Pokemon, but go off.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_09I mean, I think it's Digimon has for the more, I would say, I would say much more audiences per se of children. The ones who, what's the metal from? The ones who are the Pokemon children, they just run around and just pee in the grass, and it's a weird thing.
SPEAKER_05So, I mean it's all about me.
unknownI'm not alone, I just I just got my pillow, I didn't know I needed it. All right.
SPEAKER_06Shampoo bracelets. See, even you can tell Pokemon, you can roll out.
SPEAKER_09So for me, I had to go back a little bit. I remember Pokemon, and then I the Digimon was kind of faded from my memory. So I went back to watch it. Let's just say I fell asleep within 10 minutes. That intro was for me. And every time I tried to watch it, because I tried three times, I felt yeah, so uh, I'm going back to my first little Pokemon. You know, remember the little gold Pokemon card that you used to try to collect?
SPEAKER_06Yep, yes. Oh, the ones from Burger King.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_03And then they went like six, and they weren't in your load.
SPEAKER_05That's like all of them.
unknownFive and all of them. Oh boy. I know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_09Oh, and then I played the game and then our kids don't watch the Pokemon. So, you know, Pokemon and how generation.
SPEAKER_04This is kind of difficult for me. I wanna say fuck both monster answer.
SPEAKER_08No, we'll do that for a monster racing bullmaster episodes.
SPEAKER_04I'll find coming in. I was about to go back back. So uh but yeah, uh if I have to have a choose. If I have to choose, I'm most likely gonna go with Digimon just because of how they uh like for one, the reason why I have an issue with Pokemon, but I'll get back to that. I get to that later. Black before it said for in terms of like how they portray death and friendship, but there was a couple other things, just issues I have with Pokemon and how they separate depending on what medium you go into. So um, so yeah, I I'm gonna I'm gonna go with JJ.
SPEAKER_06So I didn't get to say mine. I think we already got it. I didn't literally didn't say anything. Oh, oh the most non-partisan response, I could change your mind right now, and you'd be like just you'd basically stuck.
SPEAKER_05I won't. Because the thing that I'm on the Trump administration, so you talk about the translation at the back of Russia, who can be saying, my side are the pocket monsters, the Poke Mod, A, C, D, the generational uh nostalgia of Pokemon.
SPEAKER_06Like, I don't believe anybody in this chat who's watching the people at this table can actually say now the theme songs of Pokemon are not iconic. Go ahead. Other than the first theme song, how many theme songs in Digimon do you actually remember? They only did one. I didn't actually respond. So even if you didn't watch it past the first season, even if you didn't care about Ash, even if you were mad about how Rob wasn't really black when you eventually found out, you know, today o'clock. Um out of everything, wait, wait.
SPEAKER_00Wait, wasn't black.
SPEAKER_02Um there's a people quite rap. I mean that's all fun.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Like in the way of so bad as the people I thought he was a really canned Japanese man, I won't tell you.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_06But I I mean I all covers on the rolling eyes.
SPEAKER_00So we didn't watch more like that.
SPEAKER_06So specifically, so specifically, Pokemon, mainly because, like I said, it came first, is what I grew up on. Although I did watch Digimon most of the seasons outside of just the most recent one. I've seen all the other ones in the movies.
SPEAKER_07So it's not like I'm saying this out of an unbiased, or I'm saying this with a biased opinion, more so I've watched both. And fundamentally, Pokemon has caught more like more like uh uh goals. What?
unknownOh, sorry, what is the Pokemon I've got?
SPEAKER_08I'm not even know.
SPEAKER_06I said before, most people they're they're the reason why they hate Pokemon or the reason why they don't blend with or dwell with Pokemon is because of Ash. But there's so many other things going on in the show. I'm sure, but as I've said many times, and I will say again, Ash actually won tournaments too specifically that are the most important. That's very true. Only first of all, first of all, ask them cheap. Yugi cheats, ask them cheat. Yugi does cheat.
SPEAKER_05And all the time. So don't worry, I don't think it was coming from an episode that's not about him. Only go for him, we go for Yugi.
unknownI'm going to bring myself back in. Because this is not this is not good.
SPEAKER_08But if we need an episode, then we can have it. Let's be real.
SPEAKER_03But we're trying to say, focus and not that trying.
SPEAKER_06Now that we know where everybody lies, or at least what side that they specifically are on, let's go a little bit more, let's get a little deeper into it. What are the constructs? What are the reasons? What are the base principles behind why Pokemon or why Digimon is better than the other? And we're going to base it off of categories. We're going to start by their partner merchandise. So we're going to start categorically with games, between the Digimon games and the Pokemon games. Those who have experience in them, let's go uh Digimon first. Why are the Digimon games better than the Pokemon games? So one of the one of the most common misconceptions that we've already heard at least twice around this table is that um Digimon has always been this kind of like um this core, this great value version of Pokemon. But in actuality, Digimon actually didn't start. They started the same year. Um Pokemon was like February to February 1997. Digimon came out around June 1997. This was like back in Japan before it even made its way to the Western States.
SPEAKER_00Over there, now yeah, yeah, yeah. But no, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_03But the primary difference between Pokemon and Digimon is that Pokemon just got to the West.
SPEAKER_06That's a weird thing. Yeah, it is. But Digimon was more of a transformation from the Tamagotchi model. Um so Tamagotchi was actually the original thing before that Digimon based itself off of. But I think their market, I think their market was trying to appeal more to like little boys and stuff like that. So they were creating like these digital pets you could come with you and you know battle other people with, yeah, instead of you know the regular Tomagotchi model, you just have this thing that's taken care of, and then eventually forget about like a meal pet.
SPEAKER_00So um so we did now and they all did.
SPEAKER_05That's why.
SPEAKER_00You're right.
SPEAKER_06But um interesting because one of the, I would say some of the digital They're digital monsters, I'm just saying. But anyway, no, like the one of the primary differences between them is not simply just the kind of immersion, the origin story of both of them. Um it's drastically different. And it's weird. And I think it's weird to compare how they started or which one got here first. And the fact that Pokemon got here first was really like the main strength that they had. Because once they got once it got once Pokemon got to the US, then it really had the opportunity to took a loop on. Like Pokemon got here two years later. Um, and that put everyone in the position. I'll say I put Americans in the position to think that it was something that was just uh a great value regime and not even when they were well, obviously what information wasn't traveling as quickly as it could have at that time, to inform people that know this is actually something that started practically about the same time, just from different origins and different concept. And um as far as games go, I think uh I believe that was anyway. I just like the Pokemon games have had a very consistent model, or I'll say like a baseline that they they have it fully they haven't fully gone away from in ways that were like two case for anyone. Um it has the baseline of any sporting that you're possibly played. Yeah, and then everything.
SPEAKER_09Only when they change the hair color.
SPEAKER_06And much like the model, it's been successful, but more the same. Relatively like operating word new concepts every time they come in, some of them being a bit more uh gimmicky than I think the others. And these never had a thing because they always had the foundation to have a much more expensive war when they have always had the ability to walk in the direction, the universe can be a different kind of thing or two involved um what you know and basically while you're You know, in the sword and shield.
SPEAKER_01So the games I think for Digimon are better.
SPEAKER_06Um, because I have a I have a personal investment and like more adventurous um gaming concepts. Like I remember I think it was I don't I think when like people got the chance to move it in a diagonal direction. Um it was and it was like a really big game. I was like, we would do that in a lot of other games for a really long time. I don't know why it's that big of a deal, but I'm glad that you know something that you know we don't have to watch in like a snake pad on like a Motorola. But yeah, yeah, yeah. That's that's that's partly why I think that the Digimon games are better, because there's a lot more going. There's always been a lot more going on in airline. Anyone else in the Digimon game?
SPEAKER_09Um, so I'm probably gonna bear off because I didn't get a chance to like experience any Digimon games, only because I don't think it was marketed well in America for me to know. So I think I was completely ignorant that there were any digimon games. So um so even though I didn't enjoy watching Pokemon, I didn't enjoy playing the game. And I think because it was just more accessible and it was just you know being advertised a lot more. And so it was more interactive for me. It was like watching Pokemon was like watching them. Like I just wasn't there, but like if I wanted that, maybe, you know, so that's kind of how it was for me. So playing the game boy, you know, using the solidger, you know, seeing your your characters grow and go, which was you know, for me, it was on it for me, but that was the only tangible thing I've got from Pokemon. Besides that, you know, it it is very interactive with Pokemon Go and it's very revolutionary in a way. Like I don't really know of many games where you can actually just walk around with your everyday life and just like um, but I would say I'm happy to go with Pokemon only because my favorite is for Digimon games, so you of course have the expertise on it, but I'm happy that Pokemon.
SPEAKER_06The interesting part about Digimon games is that there were a shit ton of them. But there were more gaming systems in Japan, you know, here like we basically have the big we have Nintendo, we have Sony, we have Microsoft and whatever that's supposed to be. Um and then but there are a number of other like gaming consoles and handhelds in Japan that we just didn't have access to because, like you said, they weren't marketed in the same way they weren't marketed as well. And a lot of the Digimon games, some of which tie into the actual series, the actual anime weren't here, and so we didn't have access to those games because there weren't any reports that are made for any of the other consoles.
SPEAKER_09So would you think Digimon did better in Japan?
SPEAKER_06I think so.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_09I think that's because it was like an anime race, so to speak, because like you said, Pokemon just came here first. Oh, yeah, a lot of them, yeah. Yeah, so Digimon was here first, we probably wouldn't be having a different discussion, only because we usually gravitate to anime that is revolutionary, like basically probably on a lot of modest sense, as in, you know, we watch cartoons, American cartoons, and you know, we see something very different. You see anime, you know, if you can all remember your first anime experience, it was something life making. So if you had Digital on your first, it probably would have been different because it's something that's completely different from like y'all can decide how y'all y'all want, but I'm gonna take it.
SPEAKER_06But I wonder if you're like you're not wrong because the way a lot of people attract themselves to Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, like that wasn't the first anime to reach, you know, to reach America. Like there were other, you know, there were there were other animes that did that. They weren't in the same genre, and so I guess they didn't hit it hard or they didn't get whatever, but that's not the competition about the wrong. But what got to America first is a strong part of the success of the natural function. Can I say something?
SPEAKER_09Okay. I mean I don't say it where it's that okay, it can't be a birds, that's why they got you know the biggest platform, stuff like that. I agree. But if it's so good, as you guys have you know abundantly have said, shouldn't have just taken over. If it's so captivating, as you say, it shouldn't have taken the hold as it did, it shouldn't have been just as revolutionary, not share the platform, but as to be on top of it. It should not have been, especially with like cartoons that come back and back, whatever, whatever. We still remember the origin, but we still know that that one is basically kind of it that is as better as well.
SPEAKER_04I have real fun for my own. So here's the thing about that that's more because of what America likes, America's build on consistently. It's like we like consistently knowing. All right, this is what we this reason why Call of Duty does so well, the reason why sports games do so well, is because they're the same game, maybe a little change to add a shot stick here, a hit stick there, stuff like that. But with Pokemon, it's literally when Digimon is thinking of they were trying sometimes too much. Like the last Digimon game that came out doesn't play like the other one, and it's almost a mystery game. The monsters are important, but they're not the main attraction anymore. Where Pokemon, the monsters are always the main attraction. You always have a Pikachu, you always have something like a Pikachu, you always have a Pikachu, something, you always knew the monsters, you always knew the mechanics, you always had the unnamed dude that started out at the youngest age possible that left his home.
SPEAKER_08You know, it's like something I don't think anything.
SPEAKER_04That was only one story. That was the story that was the main story of the cartoon. Pokemon always had that patriarch. It was like they always had the kid that went out, his enemy that was probably related to the main story.
SPEAKER_06Which eventually became either his or her.
SPEAKER_04And then you had a version of Team Rocket in some way, shape, or form. Different colors, they might change up the colors everyone. It might be gray and red one time, but black and white another. And they always change their modes as well. So it's like it was always the same story, it was always the same type of uh archetype. Digimon never did that. For that reason, Digimon was always looked at different to everybody. It was like, oh, some people might like this version, some people might like this version, but not the other version. Some people might change up. So it wasn't so much that Pokemon was just such a better story, it was that Pokemon was just more consistent and better for us. That was it, and that's why it ran so much better. Western culture as a whole, just like so.
SPEAKER_06So it's a thing of imagine that Digimon, which is constantly competing to find its leash, but really it's always been the right relationship, which each writer has always done something so different and so creative that the market or the fan the fan base for Digimon has always been in support of whatever's happening. Because they always, in some way, shape, or form, stay within the canon of the actual show or expound on what's actually happening. And then like it was on that.
SPEAKER_09Pokemon didn't have a market. Okay, Pokemon was the master of marketing and such that.
SPEAKER_02And one thing I want to touch on is that um while they started like around the same time because of a lot of people saying it's like, oh, it came over in like an American better. Pokemon did better in Japan too. And because Pokemon did better in Japan, and mainly because their core product was a very well-made uh there were two different devices, like one was just a companion device, yeah, yeah. And one was a full fully remote game. Yeah. And and and and Pokemon built off that like as soon as almost as soon as a Pokemon game came over here, you had like a like a 3D experience because you had the show, you had the game in your hand, and you also had the cards. Yeah. So you anywhere, any anywhere you could like interact with look at something, Pokemon was there to interact. Like Tamagotchi came over here, and then Digimon, and then Digimon, the the Tamagotchi came over here, but but people already tired Tamagotchi's and Digimon did three ball. But then they popped off the shot and talked.
SPEAKER_09And it's funny because I had Tamagotchi's, but I didn't even know it was a derivative of Pokemon. That just tells you the genius, burning genius of Pokemon. I only talk to Pokemon like that, but they do not have self-down.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Pokemon was prepared to come over to be a franchise. Yeah, yeah. Where Digimon was literally like project to project and just work. Oh shit, they like it. Okay. Let's try to do this.
SPEAKER_06But I want to say most consistent between most most of the like early Digimon games from like the point of it coming from the Tamagotchi and moving to, I want to say maybe Digimon's world, two or three, where it's like they're like Digimon, like I I know like the very blatant differences were like in Digimon, like they it's they will push this this idea of care that Pokemon didn't still until a lot later on. But like it wasn't until later, fully later on, especially when it came to Eevee and the different reasons where it was like, if you want this, if you want this kind of Pokemon, you have to do these kind of things, but like Digimon did that very early on. Like, if you want to foster this kind of creature, this kind of relationship, then you have to take care of this creature in a very specific way. Because like if you didn't do what you're saying, if you didn't, like, say if you had Agumon and you wanted to get like a Gray Mon, if you didn't do the or actually let's go back. If you went to the baby state, if you went to like the end training state, you went to like a Coromon and you wanted to get to an Agumon, if you didn't take care of it, you didn't take it to the bathroom, you didn't trape it, you didn't make sure it was okay, you didn't sure you didn't feed it, if you didn't take care of this thing that's supposed to be with you, it's supposed to be your companion, then you would inevitably fall into uh the the virus type Digimon instead of like the um the data type or whatever, the other type.
SPEAKER_00Um I think that's I think that's a great example.
SPEAKER_06Like Digimon in my personal opinion had far higher stakes, not just in relationship to relationship, but like in the overall universe and in the overarching stories, there was so much more going on, there was so much more at stake every single time, every single step along the way, that you would have than you would have with Pokemon. You know, and I will say about the game, but I'm glad you brought that up because I do think Digimon, Digimon was doing things earlier on that it would have made sense for Pokemon to hit like a bunch earlier. You wouldn't have in this system. They had like a half-assed version in Gen 2, but they didn't get anything really approximating taking care of something until like X and Y with Sylvia on and all that, and Pokemon Ame and whatnot. And I think part of that was Pokemon really was different iterations of the same formula where they kept like you know, tweaking things here and you know, added new Pokemon too, but it was a lot of the same kind of right. We're gonna refine this formula and change this, but it's the same overall structure. And while that gets stale after a while, one reason why I think you know for me Pokemon ended up with better games is that they refined a lot of things that didn't work well. So, like things with how stats were designed, and Gen 1 was like, I mean, the way some of the types worked didn't make sense, and they did refine a lot of that. They added reading after a certain point, you know. Then they started, you know, getting into okay, something closer to open world in um Sun and Moon, and they start having more pre-range movement, and then the wilds in Sword and Shield. You know, so even though there's a lot that I printed for Pokemon games, they really did improve on the product in a lot of ways over time. And I feel like with Digimon, even though I didn't enjoy the games a lot, you know, and I've had more than a few of Digimon games, like there were always some things that just felt like these are glaring things they should probably work on, and they had it. One of them being like the grindiness. Digimon games are grindy as really grindy. And I enjoy a certain level of grindiness, but God, like it just feels like grinding out. So the trees.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_06Jesus Christ, the trees. Just how deep, like I was just having this conversation conversation with Kyle the other day about the skill trees in games. And like that's one of the reasons why I don't like skill trees in games, is Digimon skill trees, not skill trees, digital evolution trees, evolutionary, thank you, are so ridiculous because you have like we were just talking about the fact that it's like the reason why people don't know like how beautiful a Digimon can evolve into is because you have somebody who comes from something that looks like you turns into something that looks like drag uh a Dragonite and then turns into a toaster after that. So the reason I like Digimon trees better than I like Pokemon trees is because it's called a tree. Look, you threw the word out there, that's not okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay, since I'll say potentialities of Digivolution. Since oh evolution, excuse me. Anyway, no, the reason I like Digimon better is because Digimon, Digimon evolution is tied far more to accountability than Pokemon Evolution ever will be.
SPEAKER_06And the only the only thing for me that allows for that those degrees, varying degrees of accountability and choice is EV. Um, because Eevee has so many different evolutions at this point that to the extent that we're actually waiting for the rest of the other time to get it. But like the the thing about that was saying before, the thing the thing about Digimon evolution is that it was extremely dependent on your relationship with your Digimon and how you treated it, how you took it for 30 minutes. Not even just for 30 minutes. Look, anyway. But it was extremely good again, it was really not what we start. But when it came to the game, even in Digimon Cyber School, I know you played with one of my different games. I didn't play the second one because it was the same one, but different stories, okay. Um but um because what it like how you raised that Digimon, how you battled it, how you invested in it, determined where it was going to go. And to my very limited knowledge of what it is like, actually, other malleability of data itself or you know, technology or AI, it is extremely dependent on the program, is extremely dependent on the person who is working with it or creating it. Like it was with you, I was watching a documentary the other day that was saying that um it was the the social the social function. Yeah, the social dilemma. There was one woman who said that um algorithms are not objective. And um that's a concept that I think is immediately relatable to Digimon, because like Digimon are data, and while to an extent they have their own consciousness, they have their own feelings, they have their own thoughts, when they did evolve, um, akin to when Ty was fighting Airmon with Greymon, um Greymon did evolve into the male Greymon that we know to be consistent with the person that Ty is. When Ty was angry and upset as fuck, we can scold Raymond and we didn't know what the fuck happened. And that's in my mind, that is akin to a programmer in some way, shape, or form, this is a bit more of an extreme example, creating a racist algorithm and not realizing that it was a racist algorithm, or creating a problematic algorithm or a discriminatory algorithm, and then it turning into something on its own and not having the power to really control what happens afterwards because COVID went on an essential aircraft. Yeah, I mean, for all the purposes, everyone got hit as we was like, yo, fuck this, I can't do this. But in my in my opinion, um Digimon has that degree of accountability. Like you, if your Digimon evolved into something that is vicious, even in season three in Digimon Chambers, when Takato, um when Gilmon was at Metal Geel. No, no, no, no, no. No, yeah, when Gilman evolved into his mega evolution, became Hidromon, instead of becoming Galatmon with a BioMerge, after Leomon was killed by the Otoman, his rage turns him into this ferocious creature. And that degree of influence, at least in my opinion, has never had the same prolific ramifications or implications that Pokemon has tried to have when it came to a lot of their storylines. Um, and even if they have had them, it hasn't been consistent enough to know that what it means to be a quote-unquote Digimon tamer versus being a Pokemon trainer mean they mean two completely different things. They mean radically different things. And it will always imply a different level of um responsibility and self-concern and mutual concern for their quote-unquote partners or you know, or whatever, and what it means to develop or grow or evolve as not simply you know their positions as teamers or trainers, but in their relationship that has a change.
SPEAKER_07So how would you compare or contrast that to certain Pokemon's abilities to evolve with their trainers based off of happiness, time of day, how close they are, how far apart they are, the strength of certain abilities, like frustration, or uh was it return when they're happy or uh or friendly with their with their trainer?
SPEAKER_06I I'm not gonna say it's the same by any means because it's based off of a different uh concept, but how would you compare to trespass anybody? Because I feel like using that particular point that you know uh uh uh Raymond was able to evolve and to skull Raymond when Ty was angry or when Ty was specifically not being the most urgent field would be stalled, isn't that the same as when certain Pokemon, not the same, but isn't it supposed to be related to when certain Pokemon trainers specifically have certain anger? Okay, let me say it this way. So when you're talking about the relations of the differences between Pokemon trainers and Digimon trainers, you specifically are saying that certain Digimon trainers are friends.
SPEAKER_09Even people in the chat were saying that Digimon training uh Pokemon um, it's not even like that lost.
SPEAKER_06Okay let me try to say so what I was trying to say was as it pertains to how we were looking at Pokemon. Um as it pertains to uh Digimon tamers and uh Pokemon trainers, Digimon tamers, a lot of people have been saying are either friends, they are caretakers, parents, um, they treat their Digimon, sorry, with a different type of respect than the Pokemon trainers do, as Pokemon trainers are um slave owners, as some people have said. Uh they are pet owners, as some people said in the chat. One specific person, uh Lorenzo Simpson, said, um, Digimon, let me read all of it, and he specifically said, the goal of Pokemon is just to catch all of them. When Digimon link up, it's to save the real world and the digital world at the same damn time. Digimon can evolve to a stronger level just for battle and then go back to their cube forms and Pokemon when they evolve to stuff like that. So with that, I'm basically using that as you were specifically saying, I was saying that's why I said for 30 minutes, Digimon can be perfectly capable during that period of time. But there have been times on Digimon where both Digimon time out at the worst possible time. You sit there like, Dalamon, what you about to do?
SPEAKER_01So it's interesting that there have been like episodes where like they're like, we need your Vol.
SPEAKER_06But Agumon, specifically like any show in the protagonist ever, is like, nigga, I'm hungry.
SPEAKER_00I need so which is hilarious.
SPEAKER_06But it's but it's like, yeah, if you're if you if you need to get this power piece, if you need to ascend, if you need to put yourself in a position to be in this kind of savior-like, you know, role, then you need to be not treated as such, but like you need to be in a position to be taken care of. Like, yeah, but Pokemon are the same way, and only Pokemon in the anime sort of sense. I mean, how many people have been pissed off about the fact that beacon should beat all types of rock and steel and ground type Pokemon when they know it's an electricity?
SPEAKER_00I call that bottom.
SPEAKER_03I'll give that bottomer. So that's fine, you always got the same bottom. When the show is low-key main graphic, and you are the mascot on that shell, you have the bottom one.
SPEAKER_06Exactly. I mean, we have Mimic, who is sprinkler, sir.
SPEAKER_10So wow. Wow. We have overhyped.
SPEAKER_06No, I don't deny, but I'm just saying specifically, okay. In the two stories, in the two uh polarizing stories or shows, Digimon and Pokemon have done things that are outside of the realm of what they can normally do. Like comparatively, I would say I don't like playing the Digimon games because they lie to me more than the Pokemon show does. I don't know that. Okay. So when I played, like, first of all, the first Digimon game I played was Digimon uh Rumble Arena. Was that Probably? I think that was one of their first fighters. It was a phenomenal game. Hi, Octane. You can Digiball from Gabamon all the way up to Anjou Man. Well, you didn't know the frustrations of Digimon World One. So it was a phenomenal game. But then I was like, oh, they're gonna make another one. So I think the next game I purchased, I don't think it was Cyberse, it was something way before CyberSlues, but it was a Cyberflues kind of you grind and build this, but all these digimites, why am I doing this? I just I just wanted to buy Digimon. Then when I fight them, it's kind of like one shot. If I wanted to do that, yes, I did. Completely. So for the Digimon, you know, supremacists, uh what uh what makes uh Digimon better than Pokemon?
SPEAKER_02That was not shade. I think it was really shade. Uh because I I I I I played a decent amount of all the well no, they're gonna release an ass on the game. And and it's not even it is not even uh it's not even like most of them were left overseas, they released a lot of a beer to no fanfare.
SPEAKER_06So they they hear they didn't say shit.
SPEAKER_09I remember that you played it and I was like, dang, we have one?
SPEAKER_00That's that's you. I was like cool.
SPEAKER_09And like I didn't know, like definitely off the year, just like their marketing for Pokemon is like astronomic. Like you can't go anywhere without even seeing like PQ or something.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean I feel like we actually we cut we talked about that in one of our previous episodes when we talked about why you know Pokemon got not necessarily why Pokemon got so much uh uh more attention to Digimon, but more so they it's as all most American uh companies with the closest group, what made the most sense when they brought it over here? What were they gonna market? What could they drive home? It was a video, but just an outright question.
SPEAKER_09Like, do you think because of how let me say do you think because of how they were drawn is how they got the marketing of like their popularity because Pokemon was a little cuter than like no no, it is a strong factor. I think no, I think no, like they're kind of like I don't want to say corky, they're not, but it's like they're not Disney Mon are more monsters than Pokemon. They're really type of how to what you're saying, it is very much a part of how it is drawn. I mean, look at Disney, look how Disney market itself, and also the different Disney movies, they all have that similar aesthetic. Yeah, you can't you can look at Disney and you can look at Pixar and you can look at DreamWorks, you can tell by how they're drawn for the audience. DreamWorks and Pixar are from more I would say our businesses per se. For Disney, you can do rated G. Everybody will know rated G. You can have your mom, dad, grandpa, everybody there. For Digimon, that starts to go to TV. That can kind of T Ron PG 13.
SPEAKER_05So your marketing I was like, no, we were killing Digimon, but some people did not. People did not.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, people did that, but you know, your marketing already starts setting into the margin on who it can reach. Absolutely. So when it came to it's not, I wouldn't say that Pokemon is the better story. I would say that they just really knew how to market very well.
SPEAKER_01And so they got here two years early, given the time to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, but they all have the compete. They didn't try to like they got like pretty much like they didn't try to like mature them, even though they do evolve and sometimes.
unknownNo, no, no. That's why Pikachu does it want to evolve.
SPEAKER_07That's not what Pikachu choices. And you know what happened? Pikachu put a glove on his tail and slap that shit out.
SPEAKER_06But you know, that winning point alludes to so many problematic relationships with Evie and how do we evolve them without their concern.
SPEAKER_00I I want to disagree with that actually. I think I say that.
SPEAKER_06And the reason, I mean, if you're basing it off the game, I ain't got nothing for you. But if you're basing it off the TV show, there are many episodes with Bulbasaur, with Pikachu's, with Eevees, where those Pokemon choose to go and, like, for example, Ash and Bulbasaur, just like Pikachu, I don't want to evolve. But there was an episode where Ash, uh, I think it was right either outside of Cell Island City or somewhere near there, but there was a uh a forest, a jungle forest, where uh Bulbasaur would travel from all over the place to gain this special pollen to evolve into Ivysaur, and Ivysaur trying to evolve into Venusaur. Because fundamentally they're still plants, yeah. And we see no first series, first season. Yeah, and when they were there, uh Bulbasaur, like I think he had just gotten into a battle, got really tore up. He was in the Pokemon Center, and then when all this stuff was happening, uh Ashley's like, oh my god, certainly it's evolving. And he's looking at his Bulbasaur, and Bulbasaur is like struggling. You can see him like about to evolve and struggling to stop himself from doing so, like he's hitting the B button over and over again.
SPEAKER_08I have the utmost sympathy for any person who played Pokemon and accidentally hit B when their shit was about to evolve.
SPEAKER_06So, like Bob was trying to stuff and have to do it, and you know, that happens several times during the show. So, just based off of your specific point, there are there are times inside of the anime where they showcase the Pokemon going on their own uh choices on their own growth to go and evolve. They travel far and wide to find stones, to find partners, to get like I'm still upset about the Butterfree and Pidgeota uh Pidge episode. Like what was the name of the episode? You know what's funny though? They recently had an episode where he went back and saw a lot of his old Pokemon and they was just chilling in the places where he used to be.
SPEAKER_00Like we went to different islands and they were just like, there, you're gonna make a picture of all the same thing I'm not talking about.
SPEAKER_06You know, that is one thing I think the anime does convey pretty well to a good circle where it takes evolution somewhat seriously. Yes. With like the ball of certain episodes, with the whole thing around, like, oh, they're evolving magic heart prematurely in a league of rage. A huge issue, you know.
SPEAKER_05So I mean a bomb, like you're got too many of the motherfuckers out there.
SPEAKER_06That's evolution, just they they know pretty deep in just how you how you treat the Pokemon.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. A Pokemon who a Pokemon who wanted to be there was much more competent. And and more importantly, is this is a two-man team. You're giving the instructions. If Pokemon doesn't trust you, yeah, then they're not they're either ignoring you, they're not, they're not listening as quickly, you know, it's not, you know, it's not it's not a proper team yet. So they don't well, so they they'll be like, oh no, they're not a triple-ish on that. Yeah, no, I think it was like super super super fascinating to me. Cause like he like say that nigga out the ring. Yep.
SPEAKER_00But that's just still pisses me off.
SPEAKER_06But then but then but then this nigga getting put in this in a situation, he got he got too much experience. Yep. And when he and then he and then he evolved. So this nigga, so he's a teenager now filming, so yeah. And he's like, Well, I'm gonna listen to the man. This nigga got too bad. And then we dumped him off. He's just like, oh shit. I mean, he was barely bigger than realistically, all Charizards as bigger than Charizard. Didn't you know Charizard's actually five seven? Yes. Well, that Charizard, not all Charizard and Charizard. But if you're looking at Mobia and you're looking at Pokemon, you're basing it off Ash's Charizard, not the real Charizard. Wild Charizard, you know. Yeah, I think you're basing it off of the wild. They're basing it off of Ash's Charizard. I mean, we can talk about how the Pokedex entries are bullshit too.
SPEAKER_02I think that specifically, I think 5-7 is the average Charizard Wild. And then the Charizard is the Hollywood.
SPEAKER_06Specifically, it was pretty much a training. And so smaller would be the Charizard when it survived it.
SPEAKER_02So they wouldn't have to be.
SPEAKER_06And it was and it was, I think, Pokemon, one of one of their like more initial attempts to show regional variation. Like a Charizard on average in the wild will be like five seven. But in this point, in the Charles Civic Valley, they're big as fuck. Right, right. So many Pokemon you left that on there.
SPEAKER_02But they try to make a ball, and you become Charlotte and like and he's like immensely powerful, stronger than almost everyone you fight. Well, going up to the Pokemon League, and literally the only fighting factor is am I gonna listen to you?
SPEAKER_06Because you really ain't showing me that you that you let you work the shit. Yep. But you know what the more interesting implication is the fact that this was this was Gary's stronghender? Was it Gary? It was Gary left that shit out in the rain. Yeah, because the handkerchief. It was random.
SPEAKER_03Okay, it had a weird voice like this.
SPEAKER_06Okay, I have to my my my like what the way I remembered it, I thought it was Gary's time. But it's not either way. No, there was Gary's um no, that was because they followed like the yellow star. Yeah, the yellow starts. Yeah, yeah. But the fact that this Pokemon who was strong enough to go ahead and evolve to a point where you can't control it, was already strong as fuck. And someone else thought it was weaker and just left the shit out there. Yeah. It's it's like the implications of that situation is interesting to me. Because now you're not that great of a trainer.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and he came back and wanted to get.
SPEAKER_07This is my Pokemon.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03That was the best question I've ever heard of.
unknownYou don't look the fancy.
SPEAKER_06Um yeah, actually, some of our uh uh watchers, uh viewers are actually going back and forth inside uh Link One back and forth. Actually, they're all on the same page. Uh Lorenzo's actually kind of going in on uh Digimon in a good way, actually. Uh he actually said Leomon is the South Park penny of Digimon.
SPEAKER_05Lorenzo! They have done Leomon 30 since day one. Um I have never seen Leomon evolved in the main canon in the Saber Leomon in the way that he should act. Yeah.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. And every time he was about to, we can't even season three, they used his death as a fucking plot point.
SPEAKER_01It was a good plot.
SPEAKER_00It was still painful. Okay.
unknownOh my god, thank you.
SPEAKER_06Uh also uh uh Banjo Lux, uh, I believe I'm saying this correctly, uh, agrees with uh saying, as I said before, Pokemon was definitely more marketable to the US, especially because it was more attractive to the target audience. Part of that is the designer. Pokemon had better games, but Digimon has a better show and a better story overall. That's why Banjox likes it better. Uh Lorenzo actually said, I take a solid story with a wide range of top class characters over a good game anything. You can always pass a good story onto whoever you need next. Um, now I've said many times to Joe TFG about the storylines that are continuously going on in Pokemon. Everyone says, you know, it's just ads failing over and over again, but it's everything going on outside of it. Now, you're specifically talking about Pokemon games being repetitive versus Digimon's plot in each and every season, then yeah, of course you're gonna say Digimon's storyline to significantly better. But there are smaller storylines or stop smaller story points inside of Pokemon in each season than the most recent two. But the last two seasons revisited a lot of those previous uh uh story points.
SPEAKER_01But it's interesting because like the at the point at which Pokemon is now as a show that the the the the for all I said the verse of the target artist doesn't really give a shit about those revisitations. That's more so for like our ages of like like eight and ten, if you're between just like six and ten, you don't give a shit because you weren't you weren't paid.
SPEAKER_09I mean if they've like revisited that, then they can email have that same type of that.
SPEAKER_02I mean even if you have that 20 years, yeah, if you have that for their type of data.
SPEAKER_06But I'm saying like even if you even if you have like that, if you have that capacity to do so, like your target audience doesn't really care about that. That's more so more like those are more niche areas, yeah. Like the people who have that degree of voluntary. But like you said, like Pokemon has been more episodic than anything, and that's and just like any American cartoon, like in the universe, like you know, Voltron, like oh no, so say that so I feel like Bigon is powerful.
SPEAKER_09And Pokemon has done well with keeping it, I guess, more generational, like it keeps it holding. So Pokemon was there when they were kids, and then you know, our children's generation doesn't Pokemon. But I don't think our children's generation really knows about it. Like my kids don't know who you are. Right, right, is that a Pokemon? So like so yeah, so I feel like you know, even like our children's children will still know. Yeah, right. And so, you know, like everybody will know Picker Mouse, and Picker Mouse has been on this earth for what almost like a hundred years ago. So I wouldn't say 1900. Oh, it's more it's more 1931. I mean, that's not our generation. You see what I'm saying? So they have done well with constantly reinventing reinventing reinventing themselves where Digimon kind of fell off for that. Like I would say reinventing for the new generation to catch up and grasp all the time. Oh, that's what I'm saying. So yeah, I would say they just kind of fell off the board with trying to alright, well, you know, our generation is what in our 30s now or close to it. And but you know, what about the the generation afterwards? They want to just kind of just like left it off more than our generation. Yeah, kind of like sort of Sailor Moon because the stronger Sailor Moon advocates are our generation. You know, I mean it's not like they didn't try, it's just that it kind of goes back to what you uh were initially saying about when it came.
SPEAKER_06I'm sorry, you were next. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was thinking about Pokemon is heavily drilled on it.
SPEAKER_07I was gonna say I I feel like with Pokemon and Digimon, the core audience hasn't really changed as far as Nintendo is trying to advertise to kids. Yes. Always like these kids have now grown up to now be adults, they're children and seeing out Pokemon. And I think that is what has really kept Pokemon plus 20 years. Yeah, whereas Pokemon, if you were a fan of an advocated, chances are no kids now, you would probably push it to them, but the kids probably wouldn't be as interested if they're like having seen these characters. Yeah, there's more. Pikachu has a is easier to I think digest for kids. He's okay.
SPEAKER_09It's like my uh year old walking around a couple miles like pika pizza. Or no, I'll just be the trick.
SPEAKER_05I was having a conversation with them, and all I hear is pika pika.
SPEAKER_04Pika pika.
SPEAKER_05I'm like, is everything okay over there?
SPEAKER_06And for me, I would be out of the big time's work here.
SPEAKER_07So that's why Alban stood out for me. Yeah. Um Dragonite collect the evolution. I think the evolution bothering, but we're gonna get there. We're gonna get there. We're gonna hear that. So I don't know.
SPEAKER_06I mean, just to go back on that with the nostalgia, I think with Pokemon, I think with Pokemon, everything that a lot of our age group hates about the show is the thing that they're using specifically to mark to the younger kids. Competitive, people keep saying they're half is still 10. People keep on saying it's the same storyline over and over again. Well, the reason why it's going over and over is because there it's not for us. I can say it's not for us anymore. It's for the younger kids. They're reintroducing it to the next generation.
SPEAKER_10But with Digimon, my nephew is like, so he he likes Pokemon. I mean, we have gentlemen, Pokemon and Digimon, but Pokemon is what you're doing.
SPEAKER_06Because I can't tell what it's on my face. So this just based on just based on that part, just based on the explanation.
SPEAKER_03Pokemon, the Pokemon as a franchise, sounds more like a predator. There's a whole other population that follows that age group that they want to target. It's not digital.
SPEAKER_00Well, we just had a whole conversation about the software.
SPEAKER_03The primary difference between Pokemon and Digimon is that.
SPEAKER_07Because that Digimon is the software that you know that they're following on Facebook and decided to send out another text message to see if you're interested. And then you saw the animated thought. Oh yeah, maybe I am.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna do that to myself. But um do you see the robot?
SPEAKER_08So they won't be a whole lot.
SPEAKER_03As far as the I'll say as far as the anime is concerned, is that Digimon has an ending.
SPEAKER_06Digimon always has some degree of an ending. Like when it comes to Pokemon, it just keeps going. It just keeps on Ash. Oh Ash moves, you between the games and between Ash, between the games, between the anime, and I'm completely completely translated 100 miles, I don't know exactly where it is right now. So like there is always just a transition to a different region, a different kind of concept, a different transition. Right, right, right. Um, but with Digimon, like you you follow these, you follow these truths, you follow these kids who you met at a very young age, and then they have also the audacity, the call to mature, to grow up, to go through their lives. Sorry, Lorenzo said something else. Lorenzo said the only thing I'll give Pokemon, the Pokemon show over Digimon, is that they have way more characters darker than this polo.
SPEAKER_09Oh, like literally, like uh Jinx like Library.
SPEAKER_06No, no, that's not even the move. Oh, the characters I mean no, Pokemon. I mean, that's why Jinx isn't on the cartoon anymore. Uh along with other books.
SPEAKER_09It was there.
SPEAKER_06No, I'm not just committed to you, and they heard what we all said and they removed it.
SPEAKER_07Like Jinx literally has another.
SPEAKER_08They're like, Wait, wait, wait, let me just give it a claim.
SPEAKER_09No, they haven't they haven't shown her at all. So this generation doesn't know who it doesn't even know what it is.
SPEAKER_06They that's why all the memes say Jinx is Nicki Minist. They don't know who it is.
SPEAKER_00They don't know who it is.
SPEAKER_08I'm just I don't know what the memes say.
SPEAKER_00I don't remember.
SPEAKER_06Skeletor and the God, is that good? Let us know. But no, even about the end of season. Even about the end of like, I want to say season one or season two, they even had like, oh, this is what happened after all this shit was done. After we saved the world, you know, there was this whole like relationship that was built between this real world and the digital world. These probably members decided to come together in the same way in the season two of us before after shows of the spirit portals and the world came back together. Yeah, um, you like you saw that there were there was life after what happened. And even still, they had uh they had the gumption to go back and create shows like Digimon Adventure Trial. Well, there were most of them, so if you were on Country World, they were at the Sonic and the show, but you got a chance to see how these people grew up and how they changed and the different issues that they were dealing with that still were somehow thematically tied back to their relationship to the Digimon and the digital world, and how the impending doom of the whatever was happening in the digital world and how it affected the real world actually melded into their lives and the real conflict that came with that. It was like growing up and seeing the very real issues that you had to deal with, or the very real issues that you had to confront at some point in your life impacting the ones that you had to deal with throughout your childhood.
SPEAKER_01Because then for the I'll say for the Digi Destin, which is a way better name than Pokemon trainer, if I'm being completely honest.
SPEAKER_03It's it's it's so and I and I say that and I say that and I say that in the spirit on masters. And I'm the master now.
SPEAKER_01The more philosophical side of me is that is a person that had alien like master slave dialectic, but I'm gonna leave that alone.
SPEAKER_06I won't because I feel like that competition won't be like we don't have a time for people's masses and master slave dialects, but um just the oh no bracelets. How do you feel about the concepts between the Digimon outer race and as well as Pokemon out of race? The difference is in the similarity.
SPEAKER_04There's more of a relationship, I think, between well it depends how you're looking at it, because Pokemon, as I was saying earlier, they separate their low so much, depending on what you're looking at, between the cartoon, the guns, and the magnet, because in the magnet, that's all the ground shit at. Now the death, the war, the Pokemon being used, the weapons, all that stuff is. So it's just that relationship between the Digimon and their trainers, or you know, the Digi Desert versus the Pokemon and their masters, which is kind of, yeah, I'm not doing that today. Because when you look at the mega side of it, that Pokemon side looks a lot more questionable than what Digimon looks like. It's one dude that has a that pretty much like has this power transformer and a Digimon. And he just he stuck to that. He's stuck to that. Like that's his, you know, people let me tell you about my best friend type thing. So the Pokemon driver's like, damn, my Pokemon died is war. Alright, we're about to get another one. Like, just get another Charizard battle. Oh shit!
SPEAKER_05Wait a minute.
SPEAKER_03Maybe that's why Pokemon did so well in America because the idea of the imperialistic um like the imperialistic domination of nature is what made Pokemon so appealing to the American audience.
SPEAKER_01Because with Digimon, you have to actually relate to that character, you have to relate to that partner.
SPEAKER_06You have to be, you have to be accountable for your relationship with them. But in Pokemon, it is rooted in this ideation of domination. And we had this conversation a few weeks ago. I think it's much more romanticized.
SPEAKER_03But in the at least in the show and in the video game, but when you get to like the manga where the real shit is, it's like, no, human beings still treated things that weren't human like they weren't human.
SPEAKER_01Like they still dominated those creatures, they still use them as tools, they still use them as weapons. They didn't respect a degree of the living creature that wasn't in and of itself human.
SPEAKER_09So dumb that down a little bit. What I'm saying is so real, like I'm gonna take care of my dog, pet, bird, whatever. Right? Yeah, like and then Pokemon gave you that fantasy of domination.
SPEAKER_01No, what I'm saying is Digimon gave what I'm saying is Pokemon gave you more so that ideation of what a true relationship is supposed to look like.
SPEAKER_06And Pokemon gave you a more romanticized narrative of what domination looks like. When I said it, like Sushi and I were talking about not too long ago, it was like I was saying that the reason that Pokemon is not seen, like we like some people, you know, who are we more satirical critics about it, we call it like wall fight, draw fighting or cop fighting, but it's like the reason, but it's like but it's like, oh, it's okay because we're all friends at the end of the day, it's like no, but you're still using this research to fight, to battle. You're still using it in a as a as a means to an end rather than a means in and of itself. I'm gonna stop being confident for me to stuff.
SPEAKER_04Okay, ignore it. It's like it's like a conversation of when digimons teach you what a relationship is, Pokemon teach you what people say?
SPEAKER_00Domination.
SPEAKER_04It's more than domination, they're items. Those are strictly ice. It's like three-fourths of a man type of thing. And that's and that's pretty much what Pokemon, how Pokemon cover is pretty much endorsing slavery.
SPEAKER_09But it's not just endorsing slavery, it's making slavery more, I would say, marketable. It's making it marketable. It's making it, it's it's putting uh rose-colored glasses over what slavery is, and making it so that everybody can enjoy your children can enjoy it, you know, your grandmother can enjoy it, and making it okay. But we don't see it, so you're not wrong because there is a darker side to it that we are just kind of oblivious to things. Yeah, I mean, yeah, yeah. It is what it is. If you want to really go deep and down looking at certain animes, there is a a greater meaning to it if you want to give it to you if you're willing to look. And that's really what it is.
SPEAKER_04Well, Nintendo's more responsible for that. Like I said, Nintendo's doing one that's got time for that type of thing. Yeah, like the man, that's how the manga shows so much off. That's where they just get their ideas off. Oh their weapons?
SPEAKER_06Well, I'm hoping they're gonna do their best, right? Yeah, no, I mean it's it's interesting. With I definitely agree that I think Digimon captures like a healthy relationship a lot, you know, a lot better. And I think a part of it is the way that Pokemon tries to show relationships doesn't always match up correctly. So that's it's not getting at which one to get at. So, like, you know, let me think of um the Pikachu Thunderstone stuff we talked about in the Bulbasaur stuff. Yeah, there's this common theme that there's this trade-off between uh power and you know the um friendship where uh friendship is magic! But you know, like and I like like with the Vulvasur episode, I remember watching that as a kid and how this, you know, in this forwardship, this Venusaur was like in charge, and the Venusaur is massive, yes, like bigger than any other Pokemon that's gonna be. It's like huge, and it's you know, they're saying, oh, Vulvasor could be this power, but it doesn't matter. You know, and for that reason, you know, oh well, the right choice to make in that situation is not to take the power and to in the same respect friendship.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_06And I think the disconnect there is one, that's never played out in the games at all. At all. Ever. There's no situation in the games where you have to choose in your team, like, oh well, if I evolve you early, like there's a meaningful, other than you like learn some moves later or shit like that. You know, but it also just doesn't really like that's not really the disconnect in a OP relationship necessarily. Like the power dynamic may or may not exist, but it doesn't really matter. It's not like you know, a choice between, oh well, you have to be abused and game power, you know, or you know, say we like that's not what's actually going on. So it feels like Nintendo is teaching these lessons in ways that are trying to teach them through Pokemon that don't always make sense. I think that's why the religion of Digimon feel a lot more thick a lot more time.
SPEAKER_09I think there's a different, like if for this birth of the battle, there's there's a different criteria. If you want to win the most article of the world, if you want the media that's been here long enough to be more intellectual, it is if you're looking at story and you know ethics, it'll be different. So it really depends on where you're going. It's just too broad of the conversation what's that because you have to put some, you know, so it's like Pokemon, but I love you know the Nintendo. You know, and so the same thing with those different animes like I don't like Naruto, but I love the ship. I can't say anything, I can't see any anime. We're not looking we're not talking about you should always try to anime.
SPEAKER_06Whereas in Digimon, there was no happy sensor agency at all.
SPEAKER_02They were literally blessed with these motherfuckers who are who are not only want to get along with you.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but their personalities were willing to support you, yeah, so you become the person you needed to be.
SPEAKER_02That goes into like my uh my bigger thing for why I think I'm gonna generally go on Pokemon, is that Digimon has always been kind of project to project. And is and is much less like Pokemon is a much more reliable, yeah, and everything is interconnected, things have etymologies, things like the freaking about to tell you they have descriptions of the trees certain Pokemon live in, they have like up the catapultes at least off of this, yeah, and this Pokemon lives off the roots off of this, and we don't have almost any of that in Digmon. It's literally just up at least because again, that relates kind of to the the stakes in Digmon. We won't won't have time to look at uh all these details of what you think.
SPEAKER_06Do you remember the name of the um the type of run throughs for Pokemon where if your Pokemon faints, you just stop uh oh nezvis. Yeah, so I was I was not to cut you off, but I was going to I'm sorry for telling you off, but I was gonna piggyback on that, uh, on your point and uh the doctor's point about the fact that with Digimon, if a Digimon, in certain Digimon games, if the Digimon dies, it's gone.
SPEAKER_07Or in the storyline, if Digimon dies, it either turns back into a deck or again, it's gone, like a wizard turn.
SPEAKER_00I think the I'm gonna give it to you guys.
SPEAKER_06So with the Nuzlocks, the Nuzlocke, and there's several videos online, and specifically I forget the name of the YouTuber, but she made a um kind of a uh animated uh run through of her Nuzlocke and what she was explaining is with a Nuzlocke, a run through of the Pokemon game, once your Pokemon faints, you stop using it. You either throw it away or you leave it on the box, you don't touch it at all. So if Pokemon was more like that, where you literally would have to train your Pokemon, get it strong enough without it fainting, fighting, you know, legendaries, Pokemon of the wild, battles, all types of things, I feel like the relationship that some of you, not you, not you, not you, not you specifically, but some of the people who are more invested into Digimon may be a little bit closer to Pokemon if you felt like you were more closer or you had to prevent your Pokemon from dying. That would make you getting worse.
SPEAKER_07Why would it make um I'm I'm I'm taking the time to train this Pokemon and I die. But you're taking the time to train it to make sure it doesn't die. Well, that's the thing now. As a kid, I don't understand that.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, like mentally as a kid, taking that for something like that as a kid.
SPEAKER_04I have from what you're speaking of, yeah. I wouldn't hate a bubble more because you're gonna make me trade this so he can die for mommy style. You know, here's the thing is all right, we gotta go to this trade. I know that maybe two of my Pokemon isn't as whoop. And there's one Pokemon, I've got to keep him around just enough to fuck up the other three. So, all right, you gotta go on this first fight, you gotta go on this second fight, and the old boy will come in and ruin break both of them.
SPEAKER_06But I think so, first of all, to quell some of your uh words on Wizard Mom, Wizardmond was a part of the canon where Dizimon I just ever so slightly. I didn't say completely. I think that it would only be when it's like Wizardmond may have been destroyed, but he was still a part of the canon where Digimon became eggs when they were destroyed and had to go back up again. I don't know the eggs. I didn't see him. Bring him back.
SPEAKER_05You can't solve that in the day, but we can't do that.
SPEAKER_00Trust me, I know. But no.
SPEAKER_03Um the idea of what it means for a Pokemon.
SPEAKER_06Like, so that there was more, even I'll say for all intents and purposes, there's this not lost relationship to Pokemon Day. Thanks in battle, and the shit is dead. Because that would mean that Pokemon, that you that would mean that you're not simply capturing Pokemon, capturing, actually, let me let me reword myself. You're not simply capturing wild creatures who, for all intents and purposes, are just living their lives from their own intentions.
SPEAKER_01You're putting them into deadly situations, unnecessarily so, to achieve your own ends with the assumption that what you're doing is for their essential betterment.
SPEAKER_06When in actuality, when in actuality, their their lives in and of itself has no contingency like towards what your personal role is and has no relationship to what you personally want to achieve. But because the trainer in and of themselves believes that what they're doing is inherently right, like capturing Pokemon, they're raising it to a degree in which they are, um, which is which forgive my language, is um um is related to this more imperialistic or globalized idea of what it means to be powerful or strong or domineering to a point where you can defeat an opponent when and I when they were just they were fine. Pokemon are still on.
SPEAKER_09That's why I couldn't fuck with Pokemon because as a kid, I mean, you said it's too eloquently for my domain. I couldn't I hope for some reason. Yeah, I couldn't do it, you know, because from As a child, I saw you know this trainer throw and anything at a I thought you and I'm like leave it the fuck alone. It was a seed in the bushes. Like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_06But there was another one problem at one point I think that word was explained, and I wish I couldn't remember, but it was like I think it actually, you know, it was it was in a death battle. But it was like at some point, the lore in Pokemon was so skewed to the idea of being a trainer that Pokemon couldn't defend themselves or fight adequately enough without a trainer. Like it took a Pokemon trainer for them to be able to fight at their peak or be able to actually do battle to the extent where they could win.
SPEAKER_09But why would they need that's the thing like that? That's the thing. Like, why would you need another? They just want to fucking eat grads and be left alone. That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_02Like, that's true. Because if it's a living thing, isn't necessarily built to fight. Versus you taking the thing and training it to specialize in something.
SPEAKER_06Well, that's that's always gonna be a good thing.
SPEAKER_09But I guess the first time before us though, like let's let's take it back.
SPEAKER_05Like let's say if we're not there, and the digital wouldn't be there to talk about women.
SPEAKER_03Of course, Pokemon did too, because they're the Pokemon are more involved. So that depends on the human world.
SPEAKER_06So basically, also like season three, we talked about like humans, they were like they were like a small group of programmers that created the digital world, and it was uh pretty much basically a program that evolved on its own. It was an AI that became basically this entire dimension. It was already this entire dimension that in which these teachers evolved to you know be on their own. But I don't think it was really specified in the voices, like for all intents and purposes in the first two seasons, from my perspective, or from my understanding, it was just this entire separate world that already existed on its own. Like they were always already there in the first two seasons, and in Digimon trial, you would extend that far as well, because it's in the same canon, but like that's that goes back to what Kyle said. Like there are different writers that are apparently in a different parts in Digimon. But I I don't see that as personally as a problem because I like that degree of variety and the challenge of connecting these like very intricate stories over and over again. And I think that that's one of the things that distinguishes Digimon from Pokemon, that Digimon offers a much more challenging, much more challenging viewing experience.
SPEAKER_01Like it pushes you to have things about, I think it pushes you to have to think about what it is.
SPEAKER_06Not that Pokemon doesn't, I want to say that in all fairness, not that Pokemon doesn't push you to think about those things, but Digimon puts them in front of you in a way that allows that forces you to confront them at a for all attempts and purposes at a relatively long age. I think that I think that I think that Digimon pushes you for all attempts and purposes to I think that Digimon for all its other purposes pushes individuals at a very young age to have to confront what it means to act and believe and think and function in moral, ethical, and metaphysical ways that not only take into account implications of a larger universe but a connected universe at the same time.
SPEAKER_09This is what y'all doing, and and it was like looking at the rest of the you know Pokemon, like, hey, we gotta rise up against the human being and let them know this is you know how it's I think that that is the No, so it's interesting when you brought up Nuzlocks a while back, so I've done a couple Nuzlocke.
SPEAKER_06I'm sorry. Including one uh monotype Nuzlocke run, which was a special kind of challenge. And what's that? Rap. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04You kid you kill a lot of shit, but oh, some things kill you.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, with the rap behind it. Oh god, you know what? That was gen 4. When I did a monetary meslot, uh what's it called? Yeah, that's a rock and exist for it. Yeah, it was yeah. It was difficult. But one thing that was interesting, like we talk about you know, uh ethics around you know, kind of how you raise things, how you treat things. Of course, in a video game, like it's all about optimization at a certain level, where you guys, oh, whatever helped you with the game easiest and whatnot, no. That's what it is. But the thing that changed the does not run is you have to value their lives more.
unknownExactly.
SPEAKER_06It's like you have to think, okay, I cannot take this, you know, what is this golem that I've got up to level you know 60 and let them die in this fight, and all that energy and time is now gone to waste. So it creates this interesting almost, it's almost like kind of mirrors like this ethical issue of, you know, well, when you really highly value the lives of the scriptures, like what changes about how you treat, right?
SPEAKER_07And that's the point I was trying to make before is when you're in a situation, it's not about just grabbing any random Pokemon and maybe they'll die in this battle. It's more so I have to be smart about not only who I'm taking into battle, who I'm selecting to begin with. Like, don't just like uh uh somebody said in the chat earlier, you know, Pokemon's all about gotta catch them all.
SPEAKER_06Well, in a Nuzlocke there's no time to waste on catching every Pokemon. You need to catch who you believe will help you as a team make it to the end of this game and know that you're building them to be able to fill this process this process. I'm gonna tell you, Aerodactyl put in a lot of Pokemon I know it would. The one Icy wins, what's up?
SPEAKER_10Even when I played mine, I I never called every Pokemon that I was like, okay, well, I think I'm already doing I really don't know.
SPEAKER_04At the same time, yeah. I don't I don't play to catch a lot. It was I catch a meeting exactly.
SPEAKER_08I don't know.
SPEAKER_02But Pokemon often again, because it's a realized world, you have Pokemon creators, but I say you you got you got you got Pokemon scientists, yep, but I'd say you got you got you got Pokemon cooks. Yep.
SPEAKER_06But like just like you can do whatever you want with Pokemon in that world, you you can set whatever gold you want in this game. You can you can like you can use all of one type, you can uh you can make the best goddamn berries in the world, yeah.
SPEAKER_02You can uh you can take your Pokemon to the show and the prettiest goddamn thing. And uh and like you know, one of my uh again, one of the things I like about Pokemon is the is is how realized the world is, and and and not only that, how uh how that goes down through not only how it's displayed but down into the time. Like Pokemon, they uh from from Gen 1, they've had they've had they've had uh IVs and G and EVs. And IVs are pretty much the Pokemon's genius. So like every and so every Pokemon you met had different sets, just like just like any other thing. Some things would be faster than others, some things would be bigger than others.
SPEAKER_06Well I see certain people in certain races.
SPEAKER_02And then aside from their base genetic side.
SPEAKER_06And that's uh like you know, if you want to if you want if you want to train your Pokemon to be real quick, you got your you have your Pokemon Fight Bunch figures. And you know, you want to be real strong, you have your Pokemon fight a bunch of Mop Chat.
SPEAKER_02And so it's like and it's a and and and then later on they introduce the uh the uh personality types that that not only define Pokemon but change where their stats were. So it's like so they have all these all this consistency in the design to where while on a uh in front, yeah, like you know, Almanza's thing and it's his person, but in his game, he's strength, that's this, this, and those stats didn't mean nothing else. If you want to make a gray mind, you had this much strength, you want to make a skull gray model, you had that much defense. Yep, and that's the only thing that came down for the gameplay. Whereas Pokemon, they were actually these different things, and not only how you raise them, but how you uh how you treat them, you know, from day to day, like you know, some some attacks only hit hit hard because friends were something like sometimes they didn't get poisoned, sometimes they didn't go to sleep, sometimes they stayed alive with one AP.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, like that was a wrong.
SPEAKER_00I'm saying you cut me just enough.
SPEAKER_02I mean, obviously, it's because they talk. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's two friends talking and y'all say in the world. That's just and everything that happened after that was natural. But but as far but as far as like gameplay, like having you meet these, like, like the but the bolster you start the game with was the there's probably like 40 of them niggas in the world. Yeah, like like statistically, and and and that's only how you got it, how you treated after that. There wasn't no other Pokemon. The level you learned your abilities, the way you have you fought, or if you found a ditter.
unknownAnd you know, you start to restore.
SPEAKER_06But uh, but yeah, this is we'll talk about the ethics of ditto rape in the next episode.
SPEAKER_02And not and only that because you because you brought it because you can talk about the games, you know, at first, but just uh the thing that made the Pokemon the Pokemon the Pokemon games have always been a better gang just put like statistically, yeah. Like like they you can like you could have like dropped whatever you know story, but the Digimon source could have been in any game. Whereas Digimon ultimately is just showing Luke Monster.
SPEAKER_06Whereas Pokemon very specifically, intrinsically, because we have all these creatures, like this is a world with creatures and we are here.
SPEAKER_02And and and one of the conceits of Pokemon is that we are better together. Yep. And just like just like how we like have patents together.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna let you read it. You wanna give me your vocal talent for the minute? No, I think that's fine.
SPEAKER_06So Mewtwo is one of my favorite Pokemon for that exact reason. Is that that is the connection. Because the the Mewtwo is a part for at least for me, at which Digi Mind Pokemon is that the the idealizations of human ambition go beyond what they actually felt like they were intended to do.
SPEAKER_01Because Mewtwo was initially intended to just be a Pokemon that created, like, oh, we're gonna make the strongest Pokemon, but you can't control the strongest Pokemon ever.
SPEAKER_06Like a Pokemon that has the capacity to control other human beings and make other worst part is that not even that you were that you couldn't control him, is the fact you didn't you didn't realize it was a person to manipulate on versus a thing to control.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_03Okay, but because your body was the one heading the operation. He was like, give me something that can be everything. Okay, we'll make the world's strongest psychic Pokemon. Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_06You don't know that you don't it was it's it's a it's like a Jurassic Park syndrome. You thought you didn't think about whether or not you could, you you didn't think about whether or not you should. You just always thought about can we do that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and you did it. And guess what the fuck happened? He said, What the fuck am I? What the fuck is this? Fuck this, I'm out of here.
SPEAKER_06Like you created essentially Giovanni put all his money into creating something that not only he couldn't control that no one else could control, and had enough, for all intents and purposes, for use for his mind, like use of the phrase, common sense enough to common sense enough to be like, y'all are fucked up. I don't want to be a part of this, and I I understand what you're doing to me, and I need to leave. And and was under enough stress and under enough oppression to realize that if I if I need to, I'll destroy all of you. Just so I can continue to live. It's just that simple.
SPEAKER_00So, but no, but I'm not finished.
SPEAKER_06But like, so but but and I said that in the same answer that Digimon, at least in as far as season three is concerned, is like season three is the season that pushed that. The digital Digimon were created from this kind of initial program that evolved on its own. But all the events that occurred in season three, all the Digimon, the Digimon Sovereign, the D, all that shit happened because the digital world, the Digimon in the digital world, which for all intents and purposes, like you didn't understand the concept of the digital world until there were sentient creatures in it. You just knew there was a digital space that humans could affect but had no tangible access to until they were Digestin, that evolved on its own to the point where there were Digimon so powerful that they inevitably had the capacity to move into a separate dimension from their own and not only affect it, but affected in ways that were detrimental to the initial beings that created it in the first place.
SPEAKER_01And that's why I say that these two is a connecting factor for me, because human ambition is has always been projected in both of these instances, in which human beings have created something that they in turn had no ultimate real control over.
SPEAKER_06And ultimately, what it means for me is that Digimon created a created a world that was independent of what it meant to be. And Pokemon, from my perspective, I'll say it at the very least, is contingent upon what it meant to be. Pokemon have Pokemon from my perspective have always been not just tools to be there, but creatures that have always been contingent upon the human experience. But these human have always been independent of it, and have always pressed for this examination of what it means to be human and understand an existence that is entirely separate from ours. And the, and I'll say for my own kind of like prerogative, the ethical and moral, as well as the philosophical and overall metaphysical implications of that are far stronger in that franchise than they are in hotline. So as soon as the whole tech podcast started, as soon as it ended. So now what I'm going to do is we're going to give our final thoughts and we're going to go down the line of the points that we've covered and say on what side, because I think we've all kind of got gained a little bit of insight on both sides of Digimon and Pokemon, especially digging a little bit deeper into it. So out of these points, and uh these points are purely arbitrary, it doesn't really matter. Um, Pokemon or Digimon. So, uh basing it off of some of the ones that uh Sine said before, um, story running. Digimon or Pokemon.
unknownJust under uh Juston. Yeah, I mean just a Pokemon.
SPEAKER_06Pokemon? Yeah. Digimon.
SPEAKER_00Pokemon for another one.
SPEAKER_01Digimon.
unknownDigimon. Digimon, digital.
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay. I can guarantee that one of the as it pertains to I mean, and it's kind of obvious and it's one of the fast market. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05All right, Pokemon. I'll say digimon, actually.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I actually want to say digital.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you can't.
SPEAKER_04I want to give that digital. Just because of the spectrum and how entertaining all the more additional changes.
SPEAKER_09Honestly, I still to this day, and I do probably played it, and I probably don't remember it. It's just like it's not as market as Pokemon game. I mean, as a stuff, if you played it and you know like all the shit and whatever, whatever, that's cute, whatever. But if you don't, as myself, I'm like, I'm looking Pokemon.
SPEAKER_10I don't know how to say.
SPEAKER_08Exactly. How many names are they have? I'm saying more about the wheel.
SPEAKER_09And I don't even know what I think.
SPEAKER_02But even though Pokemon is ultimately an evolution of the same game. Most of the most of the Digimon games are at best very interesting concepts and very mediocre uh execution.
unknownThat's it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, because it if every Digimon did game that did something amazing that wasn't in the next game.
SPEAKER_00Because it's different teams, different people.
SPEAKER_06If you played the first one instead of playing the second one, like because it was you played both? Okay, like the second cyber swoop, I didn't mean that happen. First episode was phenomenal. Because it was like playing persona between these URI living an actual life, which is weird. But we were dealing with like the events of like a parallel like world at the same time. And it would it was it was beautiful to go through. Because I I personally have never played Persona thing, but persona meaning like I mean the world in terms of story building and how the uh kind of created these environments.
SPEAKER_04Um there's been a little bit because I have a medium. So because of the medium different Pokemon Pokemon is a Pokemon, give it out.
SPEAKER_08So much Pokemon.
SPEAKER_09I'll take Pokemon and it's easy for me to grab it.
SPEAKER_06Pokemon I'll say the DMI only because I feel like Pokemon was more retroactive as anything that these one actually was doing initially. I think that is that of it. I'll say Pokemon.
unknownI'm gonna have to give it to my box. I knew it.
SPEAKER_05I knew it. I was trying to give it the Zatch bell than the box. I would not give it to Zatch Bell. I wouldn't give it.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, definitely uh definitely Pokemon. I think that they're gonna again just like the game's called uh Digimon as far as like lore and storytelling are very interesting like concept and like and what they were concentrating on was very interesting, but as far as like overall, like whatever it was outside of my interest because they didn't have the time to uh to show this up. And and I and not only that, like uh like like uh like the court pointed out that like this mom was uh independent, but but also the franchise never had the bravery just to show me what the fuck this mom was. I didn't care about these kids. I think I like talking. I won't you are so lucky sat that's in the stuff and says, 'cause she's typing you up.
SPEAKER_06I didn't need these children. That's true. And yeah, I'm still stuck to these annoying ass Joe's.
SPEAKER_02So did you want to try it, but he didn't have it on the fine. Yeah, that's true. Okay.
SPEAKER_06All right, uh, as it pertains to the model.
SPEAKER_05You know, the joke in and of himself was mediocre from the beginning.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, still paying on it. Yeah, yeah, and you know who the fuck is that?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, fuck up.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but it's the money buggy. What the hell do you know that you're right? Yeah, I don't know about the motivation. Mimi, you know what? She got money.
SPEAKER_06Like I said, Kazai literally just said that these these both these digimons were programmed to fill in the gaps of what they did have. So if literally Joe had Gomerman, who was supposed to come literally complete him, and he still wasn't the eight shit left, but eight times.
SPEAKER_05No, that's not because the no, because what you said the idea that goes.
SPEAKER_08Because the idea of what you said a lucid idea is that was specifically programmed for job, but that's not. I didn't say it. I go over there.
SPEAKER_06That's just that's a it's a it's a it's a fact from storm coming. It's not a fact in the world. Yeah, is this literally is what they do every season.
SPEAKER_10You're a program. I know you're on the shop.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god.
SPEAKER_06As it pertains to the monsters, the actual creatures in either the world which are better, find the decisions, Digimon. I'll start over there. Oh, I can't. Is she speaking Pokemon? No.
SPEAKER_04I'll see the other monster. Oh eventually kill you with the monster. I'll try to go. Digimon?
SPEAKER_10I'm gonna have to go with Digimon.
SPEAKER_06Okay. I will, in terms of specifically the individual monsters, go with Pokemon. In terms of the specific individual monsters, I'm gonna go with Digimon. Pokemon was very close, right?
SPEAKER_02But I think the uh the the the the the fact that these things live somewhere and are part of their uh ecosystem. And also can I change my change? When Digimon designers, but when Digimon went off and made the strongest Digimon niggas in armor, then it's like okay, well, you just lost the field of being all about fucking monsters. Yep. You did just like all these wild crazy things. Did you want real power? Yep. Person. That was like I thought you were about to play.
unknownThey're awesome.
SPEAKER_03Wait, so what did you do, though?
unknownOh, it's Pokemon.
SPEAKER_02I could watch anything.
SPEAKER_00That's true.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Now, as it pertains to the as it pertains to the human equivalent, the trainers, the tamers, the the actual I have to put them in there. The humans on either show, fuck them too. Start over there.
SPEAKER_09You say fuck them too. I'm not humans. That's my book too.
SPEAKER_00No. I didn't hear the question.
SPEAKER_06Okay, but I said it's the humans that were on the show. That's your Mimes, your Joes, your Ashes, your Joes, your Missy's, your Brocks, your Times, your uh what was that word? Max.
SPEAKER_09I still feel like you know, Pokemon still have their own particular storyline. Not gonna lie, they still have the indeptness as Digimon, but I feel like I put it in my own indepthness as a Pokemon Pokemon.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, well, like I said before fucking kids in general. But like if I had to pick which one was uh was more interesting than me. Uh if if Digimon existed, I probably wouldn't fucking get picked. And they gotta do the shit and I gotta go to school and shit.
SPEAKER_08I turn 10, it's ranked. If you learn anything from jazz, it don't matter how old you are, if you got line of it, you can do it.
SPEAKER_10I guess that excludes everybody here.
SPEAKER_06That's very true. Just leave me alone. I mean that would be I'm so completely neutral on this. Completely. I do not know who it is. Yeah, I'll say. I will go with Digimon because I feel that between the the the difference between all the digital and uh and I'm gonna be after Disney Hall, but I feel that's okay because it's not necessary. You can clearly see the trying to understand the whole thing. Not simply uh complicated the image of the app has allowed them to be all bad people. Um Pokemon doesn't fly people. Oh that was great.
SPEAKER_03That was very easy, that was very much.
SPEAKER_06So last two, last two evolutions. All right, you have to choose which evolutions are better. Why is it better?
SPEAKER_09Oh, are you done and Digimon's gonna win?
SPEAKER_06I'm not worried about that at all. Which evolutions are better? And we're talking about in terms of skill, what makes them what where the Digimon of Pokemon starts to where they evolve, what is what are better for either one of them in terms of how they end up at their ending point.
SPEAKER_09So we're better than not to set it.
SPEAKER_06No, it has nothing to do with said it. Literally, they're evolutions in terms of because the purpose of evolution is for you to adapt to your surroundings and to either be able to survive or get better to be stronger. So, in terms of evolution, what evolutions are better is hoping on the guitar.
SPEAKER_00Alright, it's the nation I have.
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay. So we were standing on that. So I'm gonna do it. Um it wasn't a distraction. Um because of the confusion that's involved in there. Uh actually Pokemon got confused in the last couple years, like I'm kinda easy on both. And they even have some pre-evolution, so it's like, oh, if you go backwards, this is what you got. So um, so yeah, for that reason, I'm in the middle of the ball. They've both new.
SPEAKER_07Okay, because they evolved based off of they they they evolved based off of real life animals.
SPEAKER_06If you put a specific type of dog or cat from uh the wild or domestic in another location, they'll figure out how to adapt to that surrounding. They evolve their massive shoes. Not necessarily.
unknownNot necessarily.
SPEAKER_04They don't need masters. They don't need so you say they evolve off the masters or they evolve on accident.
SPEAKER_06Not on accident, they go and find the stones. Pikachu have literally crossed oceans to dig up thunderstones to evolve. Eagles have literally found the digital cave, dug up specific stones, and evolved into Clarion. So you allow that cave, or it's the non non-animate, human, non-animate, actual reality creatures.
unknownSwans travel south when it or get south when it gets cold.
SPEAKER_06They move to a different locale based off of their environment. They migrate. Animals do that all the time. Bears hibernate. They migrate. They literally change locations and adapt. If you believe in dinosaurs, like people do, dinosaurs evolved and slowly turned from what they were in the water into what they were on the land. They have to adapt to this around it to survive. I don't disagree with you on that point, but I'm saying we use it as a differentiation between regional variation and forced evolution.
SPEAKER_03You're still talking about forced evolution.
SPEAKER_08No, because that I'm not talking about forced the concept of an evolutionary show! The reason people touch that shit because you have a horse now evolved.
SPEAKER_06I'm talking about Pokemon that travel to a location to find the stones on their own because they want to evolve on their own. They have their own reasons for doing so. I'm not talking about trainers. Why are you posing that to me when this is my own personal opinion?
SPEAKER_03Because I'm telling you, because you're not thinking about the implications of the opinion that you're putting for. I don't think you want to understand it that they wouldn't.
SPEAKER_08But you know what crazy?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01My answer is easy.
SPEAKER_09I like the consistency, so I'm gonna go with digital because it's it's too it's too straight area for any other. Oh wait, what are you putting up there?
SPEAKER_06Based on all the stuff that we talked about, uh, where they're located, the worlds, their trainers, who they are as monsters. Do we have to? What sides that we're on. This doesn't mean that Pokemon wins over Digimon, that Digimon was over Pokemon.
SPEAKER_07It's just to say who we like and who, at the end of the day, did anybody switch sides.
SPEAKER_00Okay, you just like hands.
SPEAKER_07Okay, Digimon raise hands.
unknownSimple.
SPEAKER_00Great.
SPEAKER_07Pokemon, raise hands.
SPEAKER_06Oh, you're neutral, raise hands. There it is. Monster. So thank you all for joining us. Um, I I may have to agree with Lorenzo Simpson at the end of this. He says, uh, y'all really snapped at this panel. I hope this is the first in the series because I can talk about this for days. I agree.
