Welcome back to the Blurred Spectrum Podcast. This week, our second week in October, we're going still along the same lines of the more dark, twisted, ghastly. Ghastly. Gengar. Gengar. I'm sorry. Anyway, uh, we're going along the lines of horror and scary movies. Not the animated ones just yet, but uh the ones, you know, we talked about the games that went bump in the night, but these are the ones that as kids, I'm pretty sure each and every one of us maybe saw one or two and either kept us up at night. I believe Mesquittos uh addressed having to watch something positive afterwards. Uh somebody might have wet the bed after watching some of these. Somebody might have thrown a toy in the toilet or the trash after watching one of these. Uh, these are your scary horror film-filled movies. Uh we're not actually gonna put an age on this. You can literally beat any movie. We can go as far back as oh wait, I'm not allowed to say any. I'm gonna say it anyway. Far back as the blob, maybe, if that scared you, I don't know. Uh maybe thriller, I don't know. That scared you. I actually know somebody who was scared by thrillers. Very interesting. But anyway, so uh I'm going to introduce our panelists, starting with myself, Suchino Shogun. Uh, we also have Joe, T S G.
SPEAKER_11We have the Doctor, we have Seyone, we have Ms.
SPEAKER_08Skittle, we have Talon, the Flame, we have the Black McCoy, Mongomi, we have Kaze, and we have Shampoo Bracelets. So, uh, as I said last week, I have nothing to say about this topic, so I'm just gonna moderate because I don't do horror. So uh I'm gonna start off uh with the um panelist that has given me the most to think about as it pertains to this subject matter, and that would be Miss Seyo Ne.
SPEAKER_12Um, we have a huge list between Talon Flame and I, and I will start with my list, and I hope you know, if Talon, you know, I'll give some to Talon Flame and he could talk about it. For my favorites, um, I definitely loved Sinister, the Sinister franchise. I think the first one is the best one because it was very different, you know, compared to the different horror movies that I've seen. You know, we all seen our gore porn, we were we all seen our exorcism and our demons and you know, and it you know, or our Halloween slasher films, but Sinister was different. It kind of went for astral project projection, which was something that was vastly different from what I've seen. And I really love the visuals. It wasn't too many jump scares per se, but it had a mixture of like demons and kind of uh sleep paralysis. Well, not sleep paralysis, but you know, but because you were knocked the fuck out. So you weren't really, yeah, you weren't like awake seeing things, but it was just interesting. It took you to a different realm. Going back, um, old school with species as a kid. I saw this, you know, relatively attractive lady, and um, you know, she was an alien and she had aliens pop out of her stomach. So that was pretty cool, you know. Well, not hers, but like anybody who she screwed, you know, they got impregnated by an alien, they were fucked up, which is kind of hot, you know. It merges horror with sex, so you know, children are female, kinda it's hot to me. You know, who wouldn't want to fuck uh uh an alien and be you know be impregnated and have your stomach going out, you know, just where did the baby come out of? It came out of your stomach, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, like you would be pregnant, you know, and you got some bomb ass sex. Yeah, you know, just kind of just flinging out there, you know, wants to live life.
SPEAKER_08And what's interesting is I saw a meme this morning of uh praying mantis talking to a female praying mantis, and she was like, Yeah, I'm gonna kill you, but this is after the sex, right? Yeah, it's after the sex. All right, cool. I'm not that person. No, I'm good.
SPEAKER_12Well, from what I've heard, praying mantis will, you know, be getting down with a partner, and the man will offer their head as tribute, yeah, you know, to ejaculate. So I thought that's pretty cool. I think it I think it makes sense. Like, why why not get your head chopped off while you while you come in there? I think it makes sense.
SPEAKER_04I mean, you know, revolutionarily speaking, I think most insects have that kind of relationship. It's like, you know what, let's go ahead and kill you afterwards. You know what? That's that's a that's a pretty decent, that's a decent payoff. I think so.
SPEAKER_12It's a great payoff. I mean, who wouldn't want to see the head rolling on the floor while you have cum dripping out of you everyday Saturday activity?
SPEAKER_08I could have sworn we said this was not the hentai episode.
SPEAKER_12It's not hentai, but I've seen it.
SPEAKER_11It's gore porn, you know what I'm saying? So it's a part of it. It is a thing, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_12Um your next movie um 28 Days Later.
SPEAKER_08And okay, see, I watched that. That was a comedy, that was funny.
SPEAKER_12Uh, I don't know what we were watching, but it was not the same thing.
SPEAKER_08Was it the one with the vampires in the North Pole? No.
SPEAKER_12That was that was 40 days and 40 nights. You really don't watch horror at all.
SPEAKER_06I tried to tell you. I tried to warn you, I really did.
SPEAKER_12We weren't yeah, we weren't watching the same thing because 20 days later is when zombies actually run. Zombies are running after you. You know how zombies are like you know, slow as shit, and you can just kind of cough them on the head and it's not the zombies I know, but yeah, sure. Well, yeah, these ones are like um, I think zero like the ones that actually chase after you in whores. If they like if they like run in track after your ass, like my fat ass, I'd be done. Like, I'm just gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_11I wasn't for that movie. Any eat a track running zombie is not my shit.
SPEAKER_12Not my shit, not at all. I'll just yeah, I'll just lay on the floor and like just eat me. Because I'm not gonna be doing like a hundred meter dark, you know, a hundred meter dash and be like, oh, I'm I'm gonna be cool for like five miles. I'm gonna just yeah, and but yeah, so like the grudge, children of the corn, yes. So little children are creepy as fuck, you know, especially when they're probably little white children, let's be honest.
SPEAKER_02That is why they're using it in so many movies.
SPEAKER_12White pale white children with silver hair is very creepy.
SPEAKER_02Like who who regular white children in real life are really creepy.
SPEAKER_04Oh no. Have you ever had a white baby stare at you? It feels like racism is like flowing through you as a spirit, and then wow, yeah, they're putting everyone as they stare at you really hard.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, because they don't look at anybody else, they just look at you. And I'm like, hi, nothing.
SPEAKER_04Black babies and you know, brown babies, they'll at least like smile or laugh. White people just stare at you waiting for the ancestors to like lynch you or some shit. It's really weird.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, wow.
SPEAKER_12Wow, some people are gonna hate this episode. Not all, it's jokes.
SPEAKER_08You ain't gonna tell me that. I'm making notes.
SPEAKER_12And um, one of my favorites was a quiet place.
SPEAKER_05Uh jazz.
SPEAKER_12Like, can you imagine being in a world where you literally can't make any noise? Like, even breathing can be too fucking loud. You know, when you're walking as a kid and you try to go down to the refrigerator, get some snacks, and your parents said don't fucking touch that fridge, and you have to kind of mark your feet to different creaks on the floor to that make a sound. You have to open the fridge door quietly. Yeah, the aliens they would find that shit and they'll probably eat you just by hearing that creak. So that's some scary shit.
SPEAKER_04Now you eat eviscerate. That'd be a more appropriate word.
SPEAKER_12That is true. So you're not feeling this at all. You just kind of like quiet, like, I don't know how I feel about it.
SPEAKER_08Hold you a week. Actually, I told you before October, this was not my episode. This is this is where you flourish. Um, I might as well just let you moderate. Like, I this is not for me, I'm telling you.
SPEAKER_12But um, I think yeah, no, I mean I love horror movies because it just puts you in a different place, you know what I'm saying? And also, um, I guess to go on a more artistic scale, every horror movie has a certain um, I would say, color scheme. Like, I don't know if you guys have seen it on Instagram where they'll have a picture and they'll have the different hues or colors that are in that particular picture. Um, and so when it comes to horror films, there's a lot of muted colors, there's a lot of grays, there's a lot of greens and not vibrant greens. They're like more like dirty turquoise, a lot of blues, um, even the red is like more of a burgundy. And so, you know, it also play it also plays on the psychology of people as well, why colors are associated with the feel of desperation, a feel of loss. And it is true. So, even on an artistic level, I know Miss Giddles definitely knows about that as well. Um, you know, colors do play uh a part on your emotions. So, you know, for children movies, you know, they're a lot more diverse and a lot more pop of color. Even Miyazaki film is a lot more pop of color, you know, or they're kind of soft to give you like this dream like quality, but horror movies does not do that at all. They they want to make you feel as I guess hopeless and have anxious as possible. And so, who the fuck is gonna feel anxious with like a hot ass pink? I don't know. Barbie Pink ain't doing it for me. So we're gonna do some black.
SPEAKER_08I heard about that new uh scary comedy with Vince Vaughn. The uh the the killers were in pink, white and pink. How about that? That don't work.
SPEAKER_04Well, that's when you start moving into more of a campy type of like horror.
SPEAKER_08I tried. All right, next campy work.
SPEAKER_12Um I'm just gonna list them off because there's so many, and then you know, anybody else can just hop on why they like it, but because there's just so many. I have uh the exorcist, wish master taking it back.
SPEAKER_04Um the wishmaster or the witch master?
SPEAKER_12Wishmaster, that was the gin who um they found like a stone because white people always like to open shit they're not supposed to.
SPEAKER_08So right.
SPEAKER_12They just like, oh wow, this is a precious stone that's fossilized. We should just open this open, you know, just crack this open in the in the in the lab and see what happens.
SPEAKER_08Ark of the covenant.
SPEAKER_12You see, you see, I love how you have all those like like memorized, like Susie's like, this is what you should not do.
SPEAKER_04It's appropriate.
SPEAKER_12You know, and with Witchmaster, um, they open they crack open this this stone, and inside this stone it was a gin. And so a gin is basically like the mean version of a genie that we've seen on like Aladdin, no gins, they kind of yeah, they ain't they ain't with it, they're not aware about you know being trapped. And so uh this witch baster, he'll basically swit he'll he'll manipulate your wishes. So one of the scenes, a lady was like, I wish I could be beautiful forever. He's like, I bet turn your ass into a fucking mannequin. You know what I'm saying? So yeah, it's not it's it's kind of twisted, but you know, I did like Wishmaster more so it's 90s, so it doesn't have the best graphics, but because it kind of plays on your mind, like you know, every birthday you want to wish something, and it's like, oh shit, I I don't want to wish shit because it's gonna be fucked up and this thing's gonna kill me. So I really like that, you know, that's cute. But um, yeah, there's so many that I have. Um, Jeepers creepers, um, you know, waking up every I think I guess spring to eat everybody and different parts of that he consumes, it basically um adds to him being whole, like he'll eat your eyes, sushi, you know what I'm saying, then he'll eat your tongue, Suchi, you know what I'm saying, to be able to talk. I'm just helping you, I'm giving you this this visual um, yeah. You can say this like the mummy.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I can water that down.
SPEAKER_04Just made me think of like um gins might have been in some kind like at least as far as American culture is concerned, gins probably are considered more horrific because they are extremely specific and they they will give you what you wish for, but not in the capacity of what you expect them to wish for. So, like if you wish to be like for the example, if you wish to be the most beautiful person in the world and you are turned into a mannequin, unless you are extreme, or unless you are extremely like so like neurotically specific about what it is you're actually wishing for, a gym could in any way, shape, or form manipulate what it is that you actually want, something that you don't want, but something you actually ask for at the same time.
SPEAKER_12That is true.
SPEAKER_08That sounds like a wonderful life lesson type of movie. That's like a slice of life type thing.
SPEAKER_12It is, but he had killer, he had killer intent, he just wanted to cure you.
SPEAKER_04So he'll basically that would basically mean that Lakana Jafar is the most accurate duty we've actually seen.
SPEAKER_12Yes, yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_08Um get to allow other people to share their movies as well.
SPEAKER_12Oh, I'm sorry, I told him to blink them. I apologize. I'm done for now.
SPEAKER_08Um let's shoot it over to the doctor.
SPEAKER_03Alright, so my favorite horror movies. Uh, it is a pretty long list for me too. Um my number one, I'd probably have to say, would be Hellraiser.
SPEAKER_05Oh yes.
SPEAKER_03I love Hellraiser. I love Pinhead as kind of this villain because, especially early Pinhead, where in the first, I want to say three Hellraisers, this system of rules as far as, oh, you know, he whoever opens the puzzle box or whoever, you know, wants to seek him out. Like he offers you pain and pleasure, and there's this like interplay of, you know, kind of these, I guess you say, like, conflicting senses, and it's torture, but it's sexy in a perverse way, and it's you know, basically it combines emotions that you normally don't have combined. And I think that's it creates this dissonance that really adds the fear and you know, kind of the natural revulsion that comes with what Pinhead does. You know, uh, it uses he uses gore really effectively. And then the scene where he gets he um hooks uh what you call it, the uh to the uncle. Yeah, like he rips him apart, like it's not as a kid, like it just terrified me. It's like, oh it's so gross, but you know, I kind of had it coming, but still, like it's uh it's just messed up. But yeah, like I really I love, love, love Pinhead. I didn't like how later on they made him into a more generic splash of woman. It's kind of like, oh well now he just kills anyone, no matter what. Like it doesn't basically box for real anymore. Like he just now he just kills everyone else. I think that he became more generic to me at that point, but yeah, especially like early Pinhead was one of my favorites. Um I also love the Exorcist. Um integration of like sci-fi and horror that I liked a lot.
SPEAKER_14You know, Miss Rock.
SPEAKER_12That also has like the best choice in horror, like the merging of sci-fi, you know, and like the macabre is amazing. It's it plays on the psychological, you know. I'm saying it's not just a one base of horror that he likes, it's like a common different layer. So I love that.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, definitely. I like um 13 Ghosts 2.
SPEAKER_08Uh I don't consider that a horror movie, but I love that movie.
SPEAKER_12And this is more moving for me. Well, can't be ish.
SPEAKER_08Then then call me a hiker and a backpacker. I liked it.
SPEAKER_12Yes, the characters are amazing. The character design was insane. The backstory of each of the individual.
SPEAKER_08You know what? Rob Digger was gone.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_08And she made it to the end. Oh, like it was like a part, it had everything I wanted.
SPEAKER_12Right? Yeah, she survived. Exactly how it should be. Because we ain't gonna, if you really black me, we ain't gonna be investigating, like what's behind the store. I see little children's feet. Let me see what's going on back. No, we out, we out. We see little toes, we out.
SPEAKER_08Not only did she survive, she told them about them. So she's like, see, I ain't got time for this. Y'all white people is crazy, and then she left. I was like, There it is.
SPEAKER_03Yes, definitely. Um I really love uh fantastic, you know. Love the poltergeist series. And other than that, like those are the ones that really, really stand out to me. You know, I like a lot of the classics like Jason and Freddie and all that, too. But um, definitely I had to pick my top five of hardly those five I mentioned.
SPEAKER_12Oh, the doctor, you you put things, those are my top five. So I was gonna say the poltergeist until Suchi was like, no more. But I was like, Yeah, I was going to get to the best one.
SPEAKER_08Sharing is cares. That's so good. I love it. Thank you, the doctor. Uh, now I'm gonna send it over to uh Joe Tsg. Give us your uh horror scary films.
SPEAKER_07Sure, sure. So a lot of my favorite films were actually um I took a film and literature class in in college, and uh that spurred a love of silent horror movies. Um so a lot of films that were uh in the twenties, thirties, and like early 40s. Um so The Invisible Man. Uh actually let me start by saying a lot of these are universal monster movies as well. So like Amphibian Man, Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera, those. Um uh but the one that really stood out to me uh I don't know if you guys have heard of uh Nasferatu.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_07The nigga behind me. Yeah, him. Yeah. Um so the thing I like about the sound horror movies is one, they were silent, so you didn't have anyone talking, and they really focused more on lighting and uh uh music composition to really instill fear into you. Um same thing with um Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Um what else is there? Ooh, Hackson. So I'm gonna take a detour. This is actually a horror documentary um that explores witchcraft, demon demon uh demonology, and um Satanism and then different uh representations throughout like medieval history and uh was it ancient Christianity as well? Uh so that's uh one of my favorites. Um Pet Cemetery, Hellraiser, like the doctors have said, uh The Thing that's another one.
SPEAKER_14That's a good one.
SPEAKER_07Um The Alien series, Silence of the Lamb.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_07Uh but one of my favorite series is definitely Final Destination. Because all that shit can happen to you. And that's the and that's the that's the worst shit ever. When you're like driving behind a truck, how many of us like have been driving behind a truck and just like imagine like something just hitting you right in the face?
SPEAKER_02I still move the fuck out of the way from the man. Don't trust logs.
SPEAKER_12Like putting your hand in the garbage disposal when you drop like a bone by accident and you gotta go.
SPEAKER_11I'm about to break it first.
SPEAKER_02Break that shit up.
SPEAKER_07Um and uh well, Pet Cemetery is probably one of my favorite Stephen King movies, but only for the cat. That's about it. That's where I check it afterwards. Oh, because I also hated it everyone actually when a little kid gets hit by the truck. That's when I I was I was good. I was like, okay, this is a great movie. Um then uh The Inferno, which is a um an Italian silent film based off of the the uh the divine comedy as well. Um and not a movie, but A Thousand Ways to Die was another one of my favorites, actually.
SPEAKER_14That is that is really good.
SPEAKER_12Yes.
SPEAKER_14That's it.
SPEAKER_12A thousand Ways to Die. Isn't that the one where like the older couple, like the guy took Viagra? And then he liked fucked himself to death that they both did that.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_12Joe, that's I'm sorry. Suchi, that's actually real.
SPEAKER_08I've seen several episodes of A Thousand Ways to Die. Um, I think I clocked out on the one with the young lady who was either in a submarine or in an army base, and she died because she tried to open the window, and the pressure in the pressurized space broke her eardrums and broke all her brain vessels. And I was like, Oh, oh, there's that. So I'm good.
SPEAKER_14Wow, that was that's a good episode. I don't remember that one.
SPEAKER_06I don't remember that one either.
SPEAKER_08That one sounds crazy. Yeah, no. Again, going back to scary movies for me, I can vividly remember every scene in my head. Like I can see her taking off the scuba suit, her going over to the window, opening it, blood going down her ears, and her dropping to the floor. Yeah, entirely.
SPEAKER_04I mean, well, technically that was a dramatization.
SPEAKER_12Do you guys remember that website back in high school? Which one? Right. It was the one where it would show, like, I mean, it's horrible. Pictures of like um people being impaled but survived, and like like Tubgirl. It was weird. It was weird.
SPEAKER_07That's a whole video, actually. That is a series. That's a whole series, actually.
SPEAKER_12Oh, I don't know about that. It was, but it was called Rotten.com. It was something like a new.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. So they took so that website they had took down, but the creators ended up taking a lot of the videos and pictures and turning it into like a documentary film or something or other.
SPEAKER_12Oh, yeah. So like for others who don't know, I mean, this is one of this things that middle school kids shouldn't be fucking looking at.
SPEAKER_07It was basically all over this shit.
SPEAKER_12Like it was, it was real decomposition. Um, I mean, that that explains why I'm so fucked up. So um and I was like, well, you know, it sounds it is horrible. But um, like, you know, there was this picture, it was basically right, we it was a it was a whole bunch of this is the Google of macabre shit. And you go on and you actually see people getting their, you know, their it was an accident, like final destination accident, and a whole entire like um steel pipe went through this guy's head and you're still alive. Um, you see a picture of this woman who died in a tub, and you actually see her decomposed body in it. Um, and it was very, it of course it's really fucked up, but it's very interesting because like of course we saw dramatizations of death like in horror movies. I think that's why I want to get into forensic pathology so much, because I always saw like how people die. It was just very interesting in a way of like just kind of seeing like what is the process of death, even when it comes to like um crime scene investigations, you know, there's certain hours of decomposition, how the body looks, the bloating, things like that. So it kind of just ties into like why like watching horror movies, just you know, of course, to get away from like the realization of it, but it kind of all comes together. Um, I know Suchi's like, fuck no.
SPEAKER_08But I mean, I have a degree in cyber uh cybercrime and investigation. I I I know what you're talking about, and I had to do several forensic science uh crime scene invest uh investigations. And yes, the the the bloated, like there was one crime in Baltimore where the entire, like I think maybe the entire family went up and uh when the house set on fire and their skin was like um bloated and almost roasted like a hot dog. And like it was um they said they went to go move the body and it popped. Like it's it's uh yeah, see. Oh, y'all can't handle the real stuff, but y'all give this up. Oh, I see.
SPEAKER_07Um what year is this?
SPEAKER_11Uh because we about to look this up pictures.
SPEAKER_10Real stuff? Nah, that's that's uh that's a do I don't do that.
SPEAKER_06Give me the fancy, give me the face.
SPEAKER_00Let me see what we're just I'll do that fictional shit. Oh yeah, that real shit? No.
SPEAKER_07No, but really, what year was this?
SPEAKER_08I'll go back and find the video. I know the video was filmed in the uh early 2000s, I believe. But I'll go back and look for it.
SPEAKER_04A lot of crazy, well, let me not say that, a lot of interesting things happen in Baltimore, but you know, some things stand on the I mean, like I I Googled Baltimore bodies and they had just list of just how many other things.
SPEAKER_08I'm sure there's other things under Baltimore bodies, but we'll continue. Um, so let's get over the Black McCoy. The Black McCoy.
SPEAKER_04Uh so if you if for those of you who have been listening for a while, if you haven't noticed, I'm a I'm a lot more psychoanalytically inclined um when it comes to my viewing experiences. My favorite horror movies thus far have one of the one of which have been it's it follows. Um if you haven't seen it, it's a it's a really interesting film. Um the most, I think, uh platitudinal and very surface level interpretation of the movie is um one of you know um um like an STI kind of horror film, but I think it's a bit deeper than that. Um another, although my I so transparent, full transparency. I don't like zombie movies. I don't like zombies, they're not my thing.
SPEAKER_12Oh, interesting.
SPEAKER_04Any zombie? Like a particular zombie. I was traumatized at a very young age. I do not watch certain parts of thriller to this day because I don't I do not do zombies. However, I'm with you.
SPEAKER_05I'm with you.
SPEAKER_04However, I became much more open to the concept of zombie films and the premises that um constitute their creation when I recognized this kind of, I will say more quintessential facts of horror films when they are less specifically, you know, just porn for different kinds of um scare tactics and, you know, gore and so on and so forth, but more so commentary in and of themselves about the various fears of time. Like even Rosemary's Babies, which is one of my favorite horror films, was about like, you know, the different um, the um the more um terrifying factors of motherhood and like being a parent and you know, community and stuff like that. Um, The Exorcist also being one that is about, you know, like what it means to lose one's faith and be um in um immersed into these different aspects of um secularity. Um but specific I can't remember the name of the documentary, and I wish I could, if I remember it, I will post it somewhere so people can go look for it. But it was a film that talked about how zombie films were always a representation of the fears of the time. And early on, it started with these kind of more mystical, mystical aspects and um more centered around in some in some ways race. About how um I think it was Cesar Romero's original Dawn of the Dead's Dawn of the Dead movie, which is a black and white film. And it was interesting because even at the end of the film, the only black character in the movie is the one who died because they shot him almost immediately. Um, even after he was the one who was, you know, making sure that you know they were, you know, safe and you know, sending off the zombies and X, Y, and Z. Um, on towards the another uh another movie that Cesar Romero himself created. I can't remember the name of the film, but it was a day, I think it might be Day of the Dead or something of that, something to that effect, where zombies were like in malls and they were everywhere. And so it was supposed to be like a commentary on the relationship of the the US um population to capitalism and the the persistent um um what's the one looking for? Um the persistent um consumption of goods and so on and so forth as you move forward to films like um the Resident Evil films and 28 Days Later and on World War Z, when you start having this fear of um the the weaponization of biological, you know, bioweaponization, bioweaponization and having to confront, you know, different things like flying flu and pig flu and bird flu and Americans being inherently afraid of disease and what that could do to the the human experience in the body and what that means or the or rather the uh the implications of what could happen if it escalates in a certain way. So you start seeing viruses turning people into zombies or these more cannibalistic, you know, um very you know ravenous and um unstoppable forces, at which point you see zombies starting to run. Like no one knows why zombies somehow started to run because you know if you think about a zombie like fundamentally, that doesn't make sense. If you are deteriorating flesh, you shouldn't be able to run at all.
SPEAKER_12But yeah, like rabid, like rabid type of zombies, yeah. Right, right, right.
SPEAKER_04And so that's when you know when people started thinking about diseases that were basically like, I guess, rabies for humans. They made them like rabid and you know, you know, um vicious and you know, more quote unquote non-human and more quote unquote animalistic. That's that for me was the turning point of when I start to see this kind of um um more allegorical value in horror films that I don't think that a lot of people get a chance to truly latch on to. Because I think people will see like whether a horror film is, you know, shitty or good, um, at least in some very you know base level sets, based on what what kind of fear or what kind of experience they go through. Um and even the the more recent Chucky Reboot, which I haven't honestly seen, but I read a lot about and I read the plot, you know, and so on and so forth, and I can garner from it the the the implication that what the implication that technology in and of itself has this extremely vulnerable um we have this extremely vulnerable relationship to technology in which we connect it to everything. We have a lot of different devices sync to one another. We try and make this uh more this this very easy way of our this very easy way for us to engage in uh the different aspects of our lives by connecting all the things that we use, you know, to our phones, to, you know, our various accounts and so on and so forth, and inevitably finding ourselves um not indebted to, I don't know why that word, that phrase came to my mind, but much more um dependent upon what it means for us to um divulge or become more vulnerable to um a technological uh I don't want to say master, but more so um I guess kind of a technological way of being because we become that much more dependent on it. And I think that the most recent Chucky Reboot, you know, regardless of whether it was truly scary or not, is um, you know, it it speaks to that a lot more. So I guess if I were to really pinpoint some films that have a stronger have allegorical relationship for me, it would be It Follows. Um Jeepish Creepers, absolutely. Um it's one of my favorite films. It's one of the first films that truly scared the shit out of me. Um uh I would also say the some of the earlier Chucky films as well. Um also I would throw um shit. I can't remember the name of the movie, but it was a movie where like fuck it, I'll leave it alone.
SPEAKER_12But like, no, I'm gonna go we'll try to figure it out together.
SPEAKER_04Um shit.
SPEAKER_12What was the premise of the movie?
SPEAKER_04The premise of the movie was that like these like little puppets or whatever. And the guy silence. No, no, it wasn't Dead Silence, it was a little bit older. Puppet Master.
SPEAKER_06Yes, Puppet Master.
SPEAKER_10Puppet Master on my list.
SPEAKER_04Um I would also throw in the um the Amnival horror.
SPEAKER_12All the there's good or bad.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I did. I do that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, um, but I would also throw the I would also throw the purge in there.
SPEAKER_12I would also throw um the first purge was fucking terrifying that we have to like board up our houses because anybody can just come in here and just kill us any way they want.
SPEAKER_14I think that horn was the shit.
SPEAKER_04That sounds like the purge might be at the very top of the list, partly because it is a horror film or like it's well, yeah, it's a horror film that engages on a on a number of levels. It engages on an ideological level, it engages on a philosophical, a political, and a socioeconomic level that a lot of horror films don't get the chance to do in such a very explicit and uh in a visceral way that like shoves it in your face. Like even on a racial level, like it it goes out of its way to say, hey, this is a can these are the conditions of the country that we live in, and these are the implications that come along with it. And this this is the potentiality of where we're headed if people continue to act and value in the way that they do, and what that kind of overt relationship to um what it means to have this kind of um myopic perspective of what it means to you know find oneself in a in a very like in a in a in a in a moral evaluation in a system of a more moral evaluation that finds you um guilty of so many things, but um lacking culpability of uh a plethora of others, even for just one night. Um so I guess you know the the various and the various philosophical implications of that put it at the top of my list. Or at least, you know, at the very least, tied at number one with It Follows. Um and there was one more that I was about to say, but I can't remember right now. Um I wish I could remember it, but it's okay. It'll probably come up later. But yeah, those are those are some of my my my my top horror films, um, simply because the fact that they they are, you know, they're imbued with so many different uh narratives and allegories and implications that I don't think a majority of people get a chance to truly engage with on a certain level, um find themselves like those those films find themselves to be critiqued on a more um I don't want to say layman, but I'll say much more um you know, I wish we would have just left the Chucky movie alone.
SPEAKER_11Like I saw what the remake was supposed to be, how they made him like all animatronic like, but I feel like it took away the essence of Chucky for me. So I just leave it the fuck alone. Like stop trying to, you know, this is like it took away.
SPEAKER_04They took away the whole soul thing. Like Chucky was originally a serial killer who used like mysticism and magic to thank you continue his own existence. But we're not in that where it's it's interesting because it's more of a we're in that more Nietzschean stage of life where it's like God is dead and we have killed him, type of situation. So mysticism doesn't really scare people anymore. It's more of the implications of the things that we actually live with here and now. So it wouldn't make sense for a Chucky movie to be remade, and at least my opinion, it wouldn't make sense for a Chucky movie to be remade and be like, oh, here's the magical aspect. It's like, well, we don't our society as a whole doesn't rely on magic that much. It doesn't rely on mythism. We rely heavily on technology. And what is what would that ultimately mean for us in a horror aspect? And I think that's what that film was trying to play on more rather than the original concept that it was going with before.
SPEAKER_11I mean, yeah, I mean I get that we're in a technology-based world, but you know, when you wanna when you're looking at a movie, you're trying to escape from your own reality. So for me, like if you can't keep it with the essence of how it was filmed, leave it the fuck alone. I agree.
SPEAKER_04I agree with that too, but I also think that movies are that medium that mimic reality and they are inherently tied to it for a reason. And it's like, even though you try to escape reality through film, film in and of itself still has a real film in any aspect, regardless of whether it's anime, regardless of whether you know it's love, cut country, TV, blah, blah, blah. Like it's always going to have this relationship to your very real existence that whether you acknowledge it or not, is going to inform how you move about the world, how you interpret the world, how you choose to take on the values that are, you know, expunged, or how you reject them, or how you mediate yourself between it and them. Like it's a really complicated relationship that I don't think can be so simplified to like reality and non-reality. Because at a certain point, the non-reality that we as a society or we humans being that we as human beings have a propensity to um create are drawn is drawn from the the actual reality that we have to deal with on a daily basis. So at a certain point it becomes kind of tautological, it becomes solitistic, it becomes you know cyclical to uh engage in mediums or um stories, regardless, you know, the genre, but specifically horror in this case, that you know, deviate from our normative relationship to our own existence, but also finds us putting ourselves in the position of having to assert what our existence means when it comes to these particular kind of situations.
SPEAKER_12The Black Woolpoint needs to write like a documentary book because I'm with us like a university and just give us homework and projects because nigga, this should be real educational motherfucking. I'm like, God damn, we get my first one because I'm ready to learn. You feel me?
SPEAKER_05I'll be the kid on the first day, like that's ready to learn, and then like by day two, I'm like, you know, we would think we're gonna be able to do it.
SPEAKER_07Are they going to teach me something that has to be real punctual? I'm an extremely lenient professor, thank you. That is a lie, and you know.
SPEAKER_02That's a fucking lie.
SPEAKER_07So we're not gonna go. I know he's gonna put me at a certain standard. Mm-mm. Mm-mm.
SPEAKER_12You're in the podcast, Joe. You should know.
SPEAKER_08Who the fuck was that? That was Chucky.
SPEAKER_12That's a crazy podcast. We were like, what the what the fuck is this?
SPEAKER_07Weird thing is it just talked by itself.
SPEAKER_12So you see, um, I don't I don't mean that.
SPEAKER_14Wait, is that a flavor in the background or Chucky got the baby? Chucky's next to me.
SPEAKER_12We're about to add grimless to this.
SPEAKER_07Right. I I did forget grimless.
SPEAKER_04Like, don't do X, Y, and Z. Does X, Y, and Z anyway. We told you not to do things to prevent this issue, but here you go doing them anyway. Never mind. Moving on.
SPEAKER_11Um, so I still have a movie. My favorite horror movies was like, oh, the first one, it was not really a horror movie, it was fun. You remember that creepy ass climbing?
SPEAKER_14The violator.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, no, I wasn't talking about that at like eight years old. No, yeah, no.
SPEAKER_12I didn't look at it all the time, but at eight, no. He was disgusting. He would just be eating worms and shit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_12He was hilarious.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he was hilarious.
SPEAKER_04I thought he was funny. Um look at Roman, you did an amazing job in that role.
SPEAKER_05He did.
SPEAKER_11Um, dead silence creeped me out. Because in my room at my parents' house, I used to have a whole bunch of teddy bears and like cotton doll-like things. So, you know, you watch a movie like that. And you're just kind of like, oh. So that was one of my movies. Um, the Chucky series before it got to the cult. Because they did a Chucky cult and I hated it. That's stupid.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it was awful.
SPEAKER_11And then the new one, yeah. So we're just gonna scratch those two out. So just gonna keep the all the child's play movies. Um, another one that I really liked was Freddy Bush Jason.
SPEAKER_04That was camp as fuck.
SPEAKER_11It wasn't gonna be class was House of Wax. That was so stupid.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's on my list.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely terrible.
SPEAKER_12It was terrible. There was a black guy in House of Wax, right? And didn't he die? Didn't he like die? Like, wasn't he the first one to die? It was so I hated that shit. I'm like, I hope he lasts, first nigga to die. I'm like, you know what? I don't like it. I couldn't stand that one.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, she died. Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, you know, that was how everyone thought about her at the time. So it was pretty nice. It was cathartic in that sense.
SPEAKER_11Um we already talked about 13 ghosts, which is one of my favorites too. Um the second one.
SPEAKER_12Oh, paranoia activity fucked me up. So I thought that's all about it.
SPEAKER_04Like, bitch, I didn't make that shit up. Exactly.
SPEAKER_07That movie was a comedy for me just because I saw white people getting thrown across the room. It was hilarious.
SPEAKER_02No, but it was the fourth one. Yeah, the fourth one.
SPEAKER_12Look, I make sure to lock all my doors, like any drawers. It's weird. Like I have a weird OCD at nighttime. I make sure all my closet doors are closed. I make sure that my my door is locked. I make sure that everything is closed. So just in case some weird shit happens, I know that it wasn't me. I know that I closed that fucking door. Why is it open when I wake up? We're gonna smudge this bitch.
SPEAKER_04You know, why did I imagine Miss Skills like coming out of her bedroom and seeing all her figures just out of the boxes and standing in one place in the room and being like, that sounds like an amazing break, though.
SPEAKER_07That sounds like a great prank.
SPEAKER_10Don't do that. Well, you know what? I got too many babies, and a lot of them got powers and shit. No, don't don't do that, especially like talent.
SPEAKER_06I don't understand when you're like watching a scary movie and shit.
SPEAKER_12Like to talent, we've been watching some scary movies all like you know, October, you know, and every three o'clock, he's like, Oh, you know, like there's a certain like a witching hour type of thing. It's like around three. Oh, dead time. Dead time, exactly.
SPEAKER_04So like the midnight man and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_12Some shit like that, and mind you, I don't want to stick to the phone. My likes starts flickering. I'm like, you know what? This this is some bullshit.
SPEAKER_11No, that happened to me when I was watching the ring. I swear after she got that phone call, my phone started ringing. I was like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_12I am out with it. Okay, but why are you so quiet over there? Sushi really pondering like the the the theme of life right now.
SPEAKER_08I understand 90% of what you're talking about. I either ain't seen or don't want to see. And then the last 10%, I chime in if I recognize 13 ghosts being one of them. Yeah, that's about all I've got. Continue. Oh, were you done? Shampoo bracelets, part two.
SPEAKER_11I have one more, and I lost it. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_13Um, for me, I don't to be honest, I stopped watching horror movies, they don't really fight me anymore at all. And I haven't really seen any that have done it for me since uh one particular movie. I was gonna say it. Um Lawnmower Man, these are movies I watched when I was too. Lawnmower Man scared me when I was young, The Fly scared me when I was young.
SPEAKER_14Lawnmower Man was hilarious. It was a Stephen King movie. That shit fucks you up. That sounds campy as fuck, and I'm really into it. The fucking CG, that motherfucking movie, Lawnmower Man.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, Lawnmower. That movie's kind of campy. But it's really budget dude that's stuck in like the birds. Like, what if Reboot was a fucking horror movie? That's pretty much what Lawnmower Man is. Yeah, it was really good, dude. But it was just, yeah, like looking back at a lot of these movies didn't age well. Like, by you, a lot of movies I thought were scary as a kid did not age well at all.
SPEAKER_11Well, that's like my mom thought. You remember, have y'all seen The Birds? Yes!
SPEAKER_04I saw the birds in high school, and I promise you, like, for some reason, back in Georgia during that time, birds were like flocking in huge swarms at that time. Like, I thought you were like murder hornet, murder hornet type swarms. And I was nervous as shit on my way to school in the morning. Like, why the fuck are all these crows on like these 23 different power lines just in one area? I don't trust that shit.
SPEAKER_09It was really classic back then. That's a classic. But crows are like symbols.
SPEAKER_04Alfred Hitchcock is an like we have a whole episode on Alfred Hitch, Alfred Hitchcock, like fuck.
SPEAKER_12But oh Lawnmower Man. I've seen yo, that he looks like somebody from Virtuosity um with Russell Crowe back in like the 90s, where Russell Crowe is like a virus, but came out of the computer to actually start killing people.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, yeah, that was another move.
SPEAKER_12That looks just like him in there too, Lawn Mowerman.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, but that's that 92 CD though.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, really thought they were doing something too.
SPEAKER_04They were would y'all consider something like the Shruman show to be like a horror film?
SPEAKER_12Never seen that.
SPEAKER_14I guess what? I said I think it can be like an existential horror. Like what about the bad seed?
SPEAKER_12I've never seen it. Sounds like some some baby type of thing.
SPEAKER_11No, watch that movie. It's like real old, but it's about this little girl who pretty much is like she's like 10, I think, and she goes around killing people, but she doesn't by the way of you wouldn't think it's her fault. Like it like it's it's a good movie though.
SPEAKER_12Oh, like um, what is that when the person feels bad for the killer or feels bad for the criminal? They have sympathy. Yes, it's a stock syndrome. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06That's probably a lot of anime, Stockholm Syndrome.
SPEAKER_13But definitely, but um, but yeah, like I said, I would say uh I was gonna pretty much like Insidious, which was when I was trying to chase the high, because the one movie that I'll mention in a minute gave me a really big high in terms of scary movies. Um Insidious, I watched the first two and decided I was gonna skip out the third. Um just like slowly declining to me after the first one. I was like, nah, I'm good, bro. Um Arachnophobia I watched with uh with Carlton, if everybody remembers that, where he finally turned to a spider towards the end of it. It was literally just spider skill beat. That was it. That was it.
SPEAKER_04That was the movie. That was the movie. You could have watched eight legged freaks and been more entertaining.
SPEAKER_13But at the time, when it came out, that was the shit. Like that was before eight-legged freaks came out.
SPEAKER_04I didn't know that. Oh shit.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, I think Red Cloak came out for eight legged freaks.
SPEAKER_04That was when I forget you a little bit older than me, so you know we in different time frames relatively speaking.
SPEAKER_13But um the movie that, like a couple movies that did it for me, Brightburn, I really liked because it was just a different idea on Superman story. Yes. Oh, I loved it. I just thought that movie was so fucking brilliant. And then the movie that I was chasing, and the movie that made me kind of stop watching other horror films, The Grudge. Well, it's original Jewan. Jewan is a movie to fuck me up for the show. Yes. Because there's nothing else I can watch that can make me as scared as an Asian show.
SPEAKER_12Have you seen a TV show? The Netflix Grudge? That shit was good.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_12Better than the movie. I'm telling you. Way better. Way better. It it fucks you up. Like it, like, how many episodes is it, babe? It's like it was short.
SPEAKER_06I didn't know they made a show. It's like eight episodes, maybe eight episodes. It was a lot of people.
SPEAKER_07It rarely turned me off, so I stopped watching it.
SPEAKER_05Oh no.
SPEAKER_07I love it. I just it just no, it's not that I can't. I just feel I shouldn't be sexually attracted to this. That's like that that should be.
SPEAKER_12So Samurai should Samurai Braces, y'all should watch it. I mean, because it gives the elements of Juan, and that's because I didn't like the American Grudge. Um, same as the ring, because the original is Ring Goo, you know what I'm saying? So the original is always the best, Japanese. So um definitely watch the Netflix um series. It was damn good. And then also it it was like that feel that fear of I cannot, it's not just that you can't even you can you can be outside of the house and still fucked up. And that's the great thing about it. You're in the yard. If you mess with anybody dealing with that house, you fucked up. You messing with the babysitter who up in that house, and they go to your house, you screwed. It's like it's like you're haunted. You know, once you step foot in that in that property and you leave whatever the hell is attached to your ass from that house, you screwed. And I really but you know what?
SPEAKER_04I think that's one of the more beautiful aspects of what it means to engage in horror films that have this more kind of like haunted aspect, is that specifically what you said that when you find yourself in a in a like a situation or a place or like a physical space that is, you know, um that is invested or somewhat um what's the one looking for, not invested, but not imbued. Well yeah, imbued with like the the energy of the experiences of another person or their history, their you know, their their relations and relationships and so on and so forth. Like those it it's it's like uh it brings it it forces the idea that regardless of what your personal beliefs are, when you step into a space that has, when you step into a space or a person's life that has those different aspects attached to them, uh you if you even when you leave, you take those things with you because you now become a part of that narrative in some way. Like though those horrific things or those you know traumatizing aspects of another person are somehow transferred over to you simply by the very simplistic virtue of relational, you know, relational um connectivity. You become a part of what it means for someone to be traumatized or to be um harmed or to be um engaged by simply connecting to their life in their space or to the history of a space that's already there. And it it that in and of itself becomes the more horrifying aspect because now you don't become necessarily complicit to what it means to be to to um transfer that same energy, but you become like a co-conspirator without your own consent, mind you. Um, well, you know, it's like, well, I want to say I don't want to say not without your own consent, but like you're unknowingly consenting to becoming a co-conspirator of that person's like baggage, of that person's um life and relationships and um that person's history or the history of that space by simply being in it. And it was interesting, and I kind of want to tie this up with more personally. I remember like after my grandmother passed away in 2014, um, I went back to the house and uh a friend of mine at the time came with me and they said it felt really busy in the house. Like there was this pressure inside of the house that you couldn't really get away from. And it wasn't simply because of like the humidity or you know, simply because of the the season itself, but it was because that or it uh speculatively speaking, it it could have been because of this very um primordial um uh uh notion that when you find yourself in space, uh spaces, you know, physical spaces, you become uh very tied to you come uh very you become very tied to what it means to be historically associated with everything that happened in that space. Um and the people who have been there, the the the people who have experienced that space, and the people who take that space with them, and the things that they have experienced uh uh by extension. So it's interesting because at least from my perspective, it becomes a very uh integral kind of um uh interconnectivity between a lot of different people and things that you may or may not have the actual awareness of. And it becomes that much more mystical and intangible, which in and of itself, uh at least in our more modern and technologically advanced or driven age, that uh um tears away from this idea that you become you are only you know personally responsible for the things that you do or the things that you experience, but rather you are more relationally responsible or complicit in things that you aren't even particularly aware of.
SPEAKER_12I'm telling you, um I'm I'm ready to do that university. Um I have my books, you know, I paid my school fee, and uh you know, just let me know.
SPEAKER_07Actually, going back to the ring, scary movie ruined that shit for me.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_12Scary movie fucked up for a lot of things. Take my hand!
SPEAKER_13That was my favorite part.
SPEAKER_12Scary movie fucked it up for a lot of people. I couldn't take a lot of things seriously after scary movie at all.
SPEAKER_01So we're gonna toss it over to Miss Skittles. Miss Skittles? Sure.
SPEAKER_10Sure. Okay, so I'm gonna try to make this quick. Um, because my list is uh pretty long. Uh y'all mentioned a lot of things already, but um, so as far as like childhood scary movies, um, let's see, uh Pet Pet Cemetery, Puppet Master, it like those was those was movies I could not touch as a child. Um now that I mean I'm just like whatever. Um uh I actually the remake of it I I quite enjoyed. I thought it was fucking hilarious, um, but I enjoyed it. Um let's see. Um movies that I like. So I'm a zombie. I am a zombie fan. I I fuck with zombie movies. Um it it could be campy, it could be terrible. I'm probably gonna watch it. Um but uh my my favorite zombie movie is Dawn of the Dead Um from 04. Um, the opening scene of that jump, just I I was just like, this is gonna be fucking amazing. Like, because well one, it's the the the opening scene is is the the child of that you know family coming in there and ravaging niggas. So I was just like, yo, children, this is somebody little baby Joe. She came in the room, like hey, like that shit was loud to me. I was like, oh my gosh, we started out with the kids, dog. We started out with the kids. So that shit was uh extra, extra exciting uh for me. Um but outside of zombie movies, um I I I typically I typically don't watch horror movies just like like I don't go to the theaters and watch them because I I refuse to pay money to not be scared. Most of the time. I I never I haven't been scared in a very long time of uh a horror movie. Um the last horror movie series or whatever, I I would say the the ones that scare me deeply would probably be the the Anityville horror horror movies. Um specifically because this this happened. This was this is a this series of movies what is based off of real life events. So um, so to me, it's like it's real life psychological, like this man is is psychologically unstable, and he he fucking gruesomely murdered his whole family and and said that the God or whoever, the devil, whatever was telling him to do it. So to me, that shit was scary because I was like, yo, this is real life. This can really possibly happen. I mean, it has happened. So shit like that is what that's that's what gets me uh scared. Um, even even now, I won't I won't watch an Amityville horror movie by myself. Like I don't I don't do that. Um but yeah, so I like I I did like I did enjoy House of Wax. I just thought it was creepy. I thought it was creepy, like the flesh is like peeling with the wax. It was like, ooh, like um, yeah, so that that was good. Uh Final Destination is one of my favorites. Um again, it's because it's it's so it's real life shit that could happen. But like destined for you to die. Like um Silent Hill, I really enjoyed the visual of Silent Hill. Like I thought it was cinematically like if if if there was if some shit went down and it was just creepy like that in the world, that's how I visually imagine it to be. Like like um say Sayon mentioned earlier, like as far as like colors and and and music and sounds, that's that's how I would see like the real world if some gruesome shit went down. Like that fog, it's just like a fog of fear.
SPEAKER_12Um that paint starting to chip off.
SPEAKER_10Yes, like that shit was spooky to me. It was like, ooh, like creepy spooky. Like, I I I fucked out.
SPEAKER_04Can you imagine like being in a modern horror film and the shit that will happen in there is like my house is getting fucked up. Like, why is why is the paint chipping? Like, I need some paint, someone should have done some shit. You know, a lot of a lot of horror films is like, you know what, I probably should have bought a better house.
SPEAKER_12Like or not buying a house on like a ancient burial ground.
SPEAKER_06Like if I watch HGTV just a little bit more, I probably would leave it with sounds like Connecticut.
SPEAKER_12If the house is like dirt cheap, don't fucking buy it. Obviously.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I mean, if you buy a house uh dirt cheap, I I accept you, I expect you to flip that shit.
SPEAKER_02Like, don't just go live in that shit.
SPEAKER_12You're gonna flip it and some and some souls gonna be right in there partying with you while you flipping that house.
SPEAKER_07So I that sounds so fun, actually.
SPEAKER_06Oh no with y'all, but you know what?
SPEAKER_14You must have never had a head or like a hundred. Experience, hell no.
SPEAKER_07I'm from Connecticut. I've had a lot of haunted experiences.
SPEAKER_12Oh no. Just now seeing Chucky like right next to your head.
SPEAKER_10Well, like where you've been? That's what I've been freaking out that whole time.
SPEAKER_12Like I'm just like looking at a little nigga just staring like right at us with that with that horrible smile. Joe just chilled with the nigga like yeah, what's up?
SPEAKER_10I'm like, no, Chucky's not on my list, but I do not fuck with Chucky. Like, no. I don't fuck with anything dealing with like dolls and things, because my mom used to collect like well, she's not, she used to collect porcelain dolls and things like that. So anything dealing with toys and shit.
SPEAKER_12Keep them there.
SPEAKER_07When I get my place, they will be there.
SPEAKER_04Um little porcelain things in the bathroom. I would turn those shits around whenever I went in there. I was like, don't look at me. We don't exist in the same place.
SPEAKER_10Their eyes literally follow you. They do. They do follow you.
SPEAKER_04I'm throwing small soldiers into the ring as a horror film.
SPEAKER_12Like Miss Skittles, my mom bought me a life-size doll, and I was never a Barbie doll. Yeah, and it was like it was like a black life-size doll. And then like, and it was it'll walk with you. Nigga, I didn't ask for the shit. I didn't want I was in elementary school. She's like, Oh here, happy birthday. I'm like, bitch, what the fuck is this? I didn't ask for this shit. I didn't ask for the shit. And this thing would blink its eyes with you, and and and it was a beautiful. Let me tell you, this bitch was in the back of my closet for a good five years. You still have it?
SPEAKER_02Absolutely not. Can I have it? After like months.
SPEAKER_12When it was a yard sale, that was the first bitch to get out of here.
SPEAKER_07When I say I would cut that thing open and throw Raspberry Pi in there. Joe. Get those eyes blinking automatic. Oh, these things I would do. Hold on, hold on, hold on.
SPEAKER_12Joe, we could have a smartphone, I ain't like a little mini computer. Hell no. Nah, Joe trying to raise shit from the dead. I ain't with it. Nah, nigga.
SPEAKER_07We'll say, wow, if I didn't choose a class, it would be decrementing.
SPEAKER_12Hell no. I don't want naughty. You know me, and I'm gonna have like a little nigga in the back of my room. And and and they'll I'm like, I'll Joe asked me to come here and say hi to you. Fuck no.
SPEAKER_07I don't want to the worst that would happen is I get tormented in hell for all eternity. That's like the worst. I'm I'm good. I'll take that.
SPEAKER_04Wouldn't that be the worst?
SPEAKER_12I mean, genuinely be the worst. But there's different types of hell. We got Hellraiser hell, we have Dante's Inferno Hell. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_04Still in different ways, depending on the Dante's Inferno Hell, is that the very bottom of the movie? Is that your last movie, Miss Skittles?
SPEAKER_08Miss Skittles would like to continue with their movies, everyone.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Oh, oh, oh.
SPEAKER_08Miss Skittles would like to continue with their movies, everyone. Thank you.
SPEAKER_05I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_10Okay, so um, again, I like zombies movies, so I I liked like maybe the first two Resident Evil movies. Um start getting crazy after that. Um Ghost Ship. I really enjoyed Ghost Ship. The the opening scene of that jump when everybody when everybody's head got cut off by the the wire came across everybody's head from the ship. Yeah, killed everybody. Yeah, that's one poop. That shit was beautiful.
SPEAKER_07This is my new favorite episode. So much fun. Damn.
SPEAKER_06Um how many you got?
SPEAKER_07Oh, if you could only see the big black cat outside.
SPEAKER_12Oh, see, Joe, no.
SPEAKER_10Lastly was it was a movie called VHS.
SPEAKER_05Um, I saw I forgot about that movie.
SPEAKER_10I saw it on Netflix, and I thought it was it, it was like a series of different fucked up experiences.
SPEAKER_02Uh it's like an anthology series.
SPEAKER_10It was so the first one was good.
SPEAKER_05There was a second the first one was good.
SPEAKER_10I I enjoyed the first one only because it was it was different, it was different experiences. And I was just like, wow, this like it's a random fucking tape full of fucked up shit happening to different people. Um like a snuff film.
SPEAKER_04Kind of like a snuff film, kinda, kinda. Like the second and third one were closer to that, but I think the second one was.
SPEAKER_10There was a third one, Lord.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there were three. There were three. Um, I think the second one was where it started like having trying to have like a story as to why the people were looking at the tapes in the first place.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_04And I can't remember, I think it might have been the second one. I and Miss Skills, correct me if I'm wrong. I think it might have been the second one where they were like in a house investigating some shit or looking for somebody, and someone stumbled across all these tapes, and there was like someone in the house killing off everyone in the house as this person was watching.
SPEAKER_10That was the second one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can't remember what the premise of the third one was, but basically there was still the tapes of the shit happening to people. But yeah.
SPEAKER_08Alright. Um, I know that Talonflame and Miss Sayone were supposed to be sharing their list, but I didn't hear Talonflame saying that now. One movie title. Oh, she got the list, that's a lot. There. All right.
SPEAKER_12All right, so I'm just gonna give I'm gonna give you titles and then because I remember you said you liked the mist. Oh my god, yes.
SPEAKER_14I got that was powerful, man. That just when you thought she was safe. He said you and your baby to heaven.
SPEAKER_04Stephen King actually said that the ending of the film was more fucked up than the ending he had for the book. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Oh, really?
SPEAKER_04Wow. He was like, he never would have thought of that.
SPEAKER_05It was fucked up though.
SPEAKER_04Like he never would have thought about it.
SPEAKER_07And things tend to be horrible.
SPEAKER_12I would have been shot myself though. Like, you you already killed your kid, like you killed your kid, and you're about to blow your brains out, and then the mist clears. I would have just shot myself because you've done committed murder of your child.
SPEAKER_04What happened was like there were all these like interdimensional, like horror, horrific, like Lovecraft creatures that had invaded our plane of like existence. And like the the family and like a couple other people had like escaped the grocery store they were holed up in, they were trying to find safety, and they ran out of gas. Like they couldn't go anywhere else. And the father who was driving had one gun and had a certain amount, a certain just enough amount, just enough bullets to kill everyone except himself in the car. And when they ran out of gas, they saw this massive creature walking across in front of them and didn't even pay attention to them because they they were too small to be seen. And we're like, fuck, we're all gonna die. And then you see, like, he makes this, they all make the well, I'll say he makes the decision to kill everyone. Like, it's like a mercy killing. He shoots his children, he shoots the people in the back, but he runs out of bullets and he can't kill himself at the end of it. And after he kills everyone in the car, like the I guess the US government or whatever agency comes through, they are rescuing people, they're saving folks, and that, this, that, and the other, they have everything they need to make sure the people are safe. And he is horrified because now he killed his own children and killed these innocent people who are trying to be safe and trying to get to like some degree of safety. And now they're the the thing that they've been waiting on this entire time has showed up, and everyone is dead except him, and now he has to live with the fact that he's the only one who has survived, and he is the one who killed his own children and all these innocent people who were just trying to survive. And the last thing you hear as the movie is ending is him screaming and wailing because of the realization of what he's done and what has just happened.
SPEAKER_12I'm finding it done. I'm finding it done. I'm finding somebody's done because there ain't no way in hell I'm surviving that shit. Hell no, I'll jump off a cliff. I'll get creative. Fuck it. No, fuck that shit. No. I am Legend was a good one. I am Legend. Oh, that's a good one. I didn't have that one.
SPEAKER_02I'll return to though for me.
SPEAKER_12I am Legend. Um, you you wrote down As Above as Below.
SPEAKER_14I love that film. Jesus Christ, I love that film.
SPEAKER_12If you haven't seen it, I don't think I don't think a lot of people have seen it.
SPEAKER_14Oh yeah, baby. As above as below. So as something's happening, it's kind of a witchy thing. So I guess as something's happening on top, it's also happening at the bottom. And vice versa. It's it's kind of hard to explain.
SPEAKER_13Is it like us? No, the movie how how us is made off of that.
SPEAKER_12Um, kind of. So, like the premise of the movie is that there is these white people trying to do some archaeological shit they ain't supposed to be touching. And they go into the always. Always, always, always catacombs. And um, in the catacombs, there is so they're trying to find the philosopher's stone. Is it right, babe? Is it the philosopher's stone?
SPEAKER_14The philosopher's stone, they found it. Yeah, arguments got you.
SPEAKER_12Oh, they should all a little bit of another transphobia there, so they probably should um they ended up going on to like an excavation site uh through the catacombs, and there's a map that shows the original, I guess, tunneling system of the catacombs. It's not actually um advertised, so to speak. So these archaeologic uh these archaeologists, they go, they take a look at team and they find this tunnel into some weird shit. Like you see like this huge, like occult-ish coven going on. And basically the deeper you get in, it's almost kind of like you're almost like getting to like the depths of hell in a way, because um weird shit starts to happen. They end up finding the philosopher's stone, but there's like little sigils uh and um I would say little murals saying if you take this shit, everything that you know is going to be upside down.
SPEAKER_11So it's kind of like um a little bit of I'm sorry, like the stranger things, how the upside down whatever happens in the real world.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_12Yes, it it's like Stranger Things, but it's like there's a consequence of taking that philosopher's stone. Because with that one, um, I don't remember what the properties are in the actual like alchemy, but with the philosopher's stone, it heals you, it can change anything to gold or something like that. Yeah, so they take this stone and all hell breaks loose. So basically, um, babe, I I can't remember.
SPEAKER_14They they took it and you're supposed to put it back or supposed to replace it with something, but it's like they they fucked up like they're just supposed to say just the stone, but there's a whole bunch of diamonds and riches, which you're just supposed to take just the stone. They fucked up and took more than the stone. And that's when they yeah, that's when they touched hell, and it it was crazy. Uh I suggest everybody should watch it if you like horror films.
SPEAKER_12Blood in the water, you know, some weird ghost children shit. And it plays on your mind too, because you don't know what what is real and what's fake, um, but it's some wild shit. So it takes place in um like in Europe for sure. So and then another one, Poltergeist and um Sinister as well. Yeah, so um so Sinister Yeah, I think you said Sinister, and that was that was a um uh movie about the boogeyman and how like they found this reel up in the attic and um like they went to this house and it was a house that had some crazy ass murders, and um these the the person that was originally there was like a horror movie author, and he played this reel that just kind of uh showed up out of nowhere, and it's these snuff films of these children killing their family in horrible ways.
SPEAKER_04Like you had the part he intention this white man intentionally moved his family into this murder house because it was a murder house because he was trying to write his next book.
SPEAKER_12He's like, Yeah, we moved to the book.
SPEAKER_06And it's like did you move up into another haunted house? Like, what the fuck?
SPEAKER_10Like a true crime writer, like a you know, CSI, you know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_12He was like Yeah, like how he's like, Yeah, he didn't tell his wife because apparently he did this shit before, like going into murder houses. Like the fuck? So yeah, so the the one murder house that he ended up in end up killing his ass. Cause like I forgot which child was killing the girl, it's always the young, innocent looking one. Fucking like tied him up and and hit him with like an axe, killed all their ass, like with an axe and some wild shit. But I think recorded it. Yeah, they had like a lawnmower, like there was videos of these kids killing their whole entire family, and there was one where it it the the tape would be called like home movies or like barbecue of 86, or it was like mowing the lawn, and you have this family laying on the ground, and you see this kid with the lawnmower, and you see that he's lawn mowing their heads off. Like it's some it was some I think that would that hit me the hardest as some creepy ass shit because that fucked with me at night. I had to watch some cartoons to come back from that one.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I want that list.
SPEAKER_12You gave this big ass list of like movies. This is all the movies combined.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, just to take a picture of it and send it to me.
SPEAKER_12And babe, you see. You have to talk about mirrors papers. I didn't watch that one.
SPEAKER_14Oh, so uh mirrors it it's uh it's a burial ground on top of that. And then the mirrors usually capture the souls of the people that go there. But it's slow. Wait, was that? And then once it lasts on to you, it goes to any mirror wherever you go.
SPEAKER_04Not Gomorrah, but played um Gomorrah's sister in the Marvel Universe, and she was also a doctor who she played anything.
SPEAKER_12She was black. That's all I know.
SPEAKER_06Oh wait, that was a big one.
SPEAKER_14That was Robin Thick's wife.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, that was Robin Thick's wife. Yeah. All that, yeah. All the time.
SPEAKER_05Oh, she was fine.
SPEAKER_11What happened in the movie, babe?
SPEAKER_14Um what what happened? Oh. Oh yeah, no, no. The movie's uh the movie's great. Towards the ending, his he does he does end up losing his soul because he's just a security guard there, but he ends up saving his family. But they take his soul. So it's it's pretty good. It's kinda generic ending, but it's it's not bad. It's different. The play on the mirrors. Because there's so many in that damn house. I think it's it's different. You might enjoy it because it's it's really at least they tried something different compared to the generic scary movie that has something to do with like magic or a haunting. Yeah. What else we got on there, baby?
SPEAKER_12Your last one was Emily Rose. I didn't watch that one either.
SPEAKER_14Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_12Emily Rose, the um exorcist of Emily Rose.
SPEAKER_14The haunting.
SPEAKER_12Oh, okay. See, I didn't watch it.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, Emily Emily Rose. I think everybody's seen by uh Emily Rose, right?
SPEAKER_12No, no, I didn't watch that one.
SPEAKER_09It was it was alright. It was it was really creepy. Um what was it about?
SPEAKER_14What is that story?
SPEAKER_13It was literally just it was another telling of the exorcism. That's all I did. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14That like cut cut and paste.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, and I mean she was like a c was like in college or something.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, that demon was charismatic though. That nigga was fucked up.
SPEAKER_12So, like what what was so different, I guess, from because you know, there's different exorcisms and the demons are so different. What what what was so different about that particular exorcism from the other ones, I guess, or characteristic wise?
SPEAKER_14Oh, the the the way it ends. She never got loose, she was never purified. Towards the end, she held on to the demons until the very end. And then let them go, I think, to anyone else. That nigga had bodies. That nigga followed him out the house, that nigga followed him to the hospital, everybody around the motherfuckers dying. I was like, you might as well just let me in here, Peppin'. Yeah, everybody was getting clapped up. But but she did like it, it it was it was good. It was good if you haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_12And I think the sh your last two was The Shining and the Poltergeist.
SPEAKER_14The Shining, I I didn't get to finish as a kid. I was too scared of it. Oh wow. Yeah, I couldn't finish that shit. Like I got to the the blood in the hallway, and I just turned that shit off. And I never I that's the best word!
SPEAKER_07That was the best part of the movie.
SPEAKER_14I was like, hell no. And then that's like this lady, huh?
SPEAKER_12You said there was a lady with some with some saggy titties.
SPEAKER_14Oh yeah, because I was not fucked with that.
SPEAKER_07She was just like my auntie. It was fine. She's not watching, it's fine.
SPEAKER_06Oh Lord.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_12That's that's the end of it. The with the um a quiet place, I am legend, destination. Um, honorable mentions was Candyman and Faculty from the 90s.
SPEAKER_10Um that shit was that shit was wild. Oh gosh, candy parties.
SPEAKER_07Candyman, I was just like, okay, this black man with these bees, okay, just get a giant fly swattering. Like, I okay. Maybe the new one. I'll try I'll give it another try. I don't know.
SPEAKER_12But Candyman, it was because, like, you know, we as a kid, you know, you go to any party and you see Candyman, you go into the bathroom, say Candyman three times.
SPEAKER_07I was that kid. I was the kid that goes into the bathroom and says Bloody Mary three times.
SPEAKER_04Like, I was that kid, so I don't it just wasn't like I was in Connecticut, but you weren't white enough to have the paranormal activity experience.
SPEAKER_07Maybe that's it, probably. That's what it was.
SPEAKER_04Even white children have like a more demonic presence for them, so it's easy to latch on to black people like because I was like waiting, like I was ready for something to just pop out the mirror so I could just one time.
SPEAKER_07So maybe that's maybe that's what it is. Like I didn't have that fear of it.
SPEAKER_08So now that the flames have given their final list, we're going to go ahead and move over to Kaze to wrap it up.
SPEAKER_14Oh yeah. Alright. So uh my my list on my account was gonna be kind of like this skittle. We're gonna make this uh hard and fast because we got a nice little uh pineapple. Finally expensive list. Um most of my list has been touched on uh for obvious reasons. Uh but yeah, shout out shout out to the doctor for Vent Horizon and Hellblazer. Like you know, just uh the the the the atmosphere, the the the the body horror, like like all the the the mind bending like horizon.
SPEAKER_04like definitely topic over um by say uh love love love me freddy in general uh the whole whole concept not being able to sleep is pretty pretty fucked up uh alien alien classic that since you sleep a lot um about to say uh uh you know shout out to get out uh you know uh melon and horror very good uh melanin horror it just teaches you a life lesson to not mess with certain people let you know that's yeah uh yeah most the uh most of the uh like just night nineties campy ass shit like fucking yeah no chucky leprechaun oh leprechaun in the hood yeah with that nigga like yo this shit hit way too hard let me share it yo I think I think it was like leprechaun three and like and they these motherfuckers had a giant uh industrial fan in their garage and in and uh and Leprechaun uh turned turned this giant turned the giant fan made it he turned into a naked woman and the woman that just seduced this dude and made him walk into this fucking fan and he just got chopped up it was it was crazy if you go back now we call that retrospective effect we call that retributive justice and the question part was like he didn't get his hand chopped off and the and the effect wore off he walked all the way through this motherfucker pack like that shit that shit was awesome um but I say shout out to jeepus creepers cuz because jeepus creepers is the first time because you know you watching a horror movie and and them niggas being they you know they like they lacking melanin in common sense you yelling at them telling them to do shit and and and jeep's creepers was the first time that like them niggas called the police and that nigga just ganked the police and it was like that's all my advice damn they tried to drive away and that niggas probably wings and I was like I guess I would have died too okay uh yeah such a catchy song Jeep Jeep Jeepers about say yeah it's the same it's a torque remix to that song actually share it I'll share it I can feel it now the other jobs the blob the blob and the fly oh yeah the blob I'm not scared the fly was not scary like it was look at it look at it it's up there as for as far as body horror is concerned like the fly was amazing though it may not have been scary conceptually speaking but like body horror wise it was amazing yeah yeah the fly won awards for its practical effects that shit was absolutely disgusting um like I like I couldn't even be in the room like while his like skin was melting like I just like I think I like peeked around the corner after when when he was feeding was extra nasty oh oh yeah it was it was gross I was like all right um the uh the Baba Duck on uh on Netflix that was uh that was really fucked up oh I did see that that was okay but the Bob didn't scare me but it was one of those movies that was like allegorically speaking it it had more value to me outside of the actual like scary aspects uh the Hills have eyes was fucked up oh yeah yes you know not to go on a camping trip yeah nope especially in that part of the country nope I'm the only one going camping damn you know what Joe I don't know if I don't know if I'll survive I'll be the black person that doesn't survive with Joe Joe will survive I will I can make the tent we can make a fire we'll be okay no I'm gonna say the champ fucked up and I'm gonna die so you're gonna survive so I don't know if I can be fast for a big nigga I don't know I just gotta outrun people I'll say uh also also related Texas chainsaw mask of real but how are we talking about like leopard fans or we talking about people who got away yep all right then we got our uh our Stephen King jumps we got uh you know the you already touched on lawnmower man the miss the shiny uh I love Carrie where it's like you know like it was a whore as the whore aspect in Carrie was like really like how fucked up the mother was yeah yeah and the life this bitch had to live and then you know and then and then the body whore aspect just kind of came in at the end like you know just it was kind of a white precious now I think about it. Damn I didn't see the movie but I know what precious I'm I'm not leaving that alone ever again in my life and my uh my favorite my favorite Stephen King movie uh it's weird as fuck it's called Sleepwalkers I've read the book I haven't seen the movie yo like so the sleep the sleepwalkers is like pretty much about these like uh it's like this it's like this man man and woman it's uh I don't I don't remember they it's it's like it's like a mother son slash couple relationship is real vague okay kind of unsettling but they uh they kind of turn they turn into like cat people and they like each soul and they were like oh I've seen it I've seen that they're like cats right uh yeah yeah they turn like four or five like skinless looking cat things I saw it yeah draw people to the house and then and they had like this weird sex thing like uh Stephen King is a very very disturbed person very uh no I'm gonna say disturbed he's definitely disturbed if he was disturbed his endings will be better in a lot of his books uh you see you you're attaching quality to okay fine all right all right yeah and I've heard Stephen I've I've been there in person when Stephen King has spoken about his books he's a wonderful writer his endings have some a lot of very pervasive issues but like overall I could look at it because those kids had a those kids had damaged an orgy in the book from it yeah that's true they took it out in the original like book there there was like a whole orgy where all of them had special devs and it was weird.
SPEAKER_12Wait the children have that with it with the clown yeah the little girl they all fucked the little girl baby I didn't know that I'm glad they took that shit out as some disturbing shit oh yeah but you can find the on you can find the uh the original Joe it's real you can find it moving on uh this nigga money oh yeah special special shout out to uh deep blue sea you've never seen deep blue sea I've never seen it actually R.I.D.
SPEAKER_02the Morgan Freeman in that movie because he was ready to rally the troops together and that motherfucker just go oh yeah that was the most that was the most black people I ever seen a horror movie and I was like one of these motherfuckers gotta survive and LL2 being the most attractive person in the movie had to survive.
SPEAKER_14Yes hey hey yeah I mean you know being bald helps you swim better as the air you know the and you know the way he licked his lips hell actually helped too and yeah that's how he got through anaconda no wait that was ice cube never mind yeah anaconda too yeah yeah um and then some of the uh some of the campier things like uh and things are not even horror like uh like they like we kind of mentioned before like uh it's it's a Halloween movie not a horror movie but it's definitely horror aspects you know hocus focus is a classic yes I've watched that twice already Halloween town can't forget about that yes you gotta speak uh we got the uh yeah evil dead yeah like camp camp at his max yo you know that if y'all haven't seen drag me to hell oh yes good good shit crazy crazy uh uh yeah Rocky Horror Picture show you know that's there I didn't know shit we could do Adam's family too throw it a bomb in there killer clowns oh lord Mars attacked an album uh which is it's it's not it's not technically a horror movie it's more of a sci-fi mix meets comedy yeah yeah it's like it's like can't be sci-fi like I like I attribute it to like Halloween movies really yeah yeah yeah Cabin in the Woods is amazing that was the other movie that I was forgetting earlier Cabin in the Woods I actually just I just saw that actually really I I don't agree but I know I I I will say the reason I like Cabin in the Woods because it was an intentionally subversive film.
SPEAKER_04Like it made it kind of a different for a reason and I loved every aspect of it because it took all of everything we know about horror movies and turned it into like this very um I think it was made by Ship I can't remember his name but he did Bubble Vampire Slayer he did a lot of the Marvel movies oh Josh Wheaton yes Josh Whedon there we go thank you so much um it was it was very joss like it was satirical in the best way and my favorite scene to this day is when they released all the monsters in there and they hump and I all the like the agents were like saying they had the guns and shit and the elevators open and they all got murked and it was beautiful.
SPEAKER_14It was beautiful murked in years that's don't don't be telling my age on this podcast yeah but uh also uh not not not super uh what I I mean it's it's kind of has a niche following but uh pitch black with uh event oh yes oh my god I'm writing all this stuff down so I don't forget it's good and like and like in Vin D like and I think Vin Diesel really like carved out his niche for the person he always plays now.
SPEAKER_12It is like horror and and uh uh yeah because they're like everything's black and uh I've never seen that they're oh you haven't seen Joe you'd like it so here's the thing we have the DVD and we have the Blu-ray I've never seen it because I thought it was like an action movie it's it's like action it's not straight horror it's like monsters so they go on a different planet um I don't know why they're on that planet is it like why are they on the planet again?
SPEAKER_14You're always on another planet for resources.
SPEAKER_12I don't think black it reminds me of the descent yeah you're gonna be there that was a good one um very good for pitch black they end up going on this planet and like the planet has like three moons three suns and some weird shit but like when the suns go down you have these creatures that can't see shit but they have really good hearing like and so echolocation like that type of shit. Yeah and like um pitch black oh riddick yeah yeah so um because of Riddick was a sequel to pitch black it was oh I didn't know that it was yeah because that was based off of the same character that would make sense as to why that movie was so confusing to me. Yeah yeah yeah pitch black yeah because they go into like why Riddick is the way he is he's like a Furian or something like that as a whole species on why he's like yeah he's he's he yeah and then also like the the I would say the neo gothic space um you know I love I want to cosplay that so much and I like the Saudi character I don't know how but that whole entire visuals of like space and you know this like neo graph neo gothic look as well as this kind of horror aspect with these creatures makes pitch black and chronicles pretty damn good.
SPEAKER_14So I felt like they could have left off the Chronicles erytic too we could have just gone without that one yeah yeah yeah yeah and uh also favorite favorite uh as far as I concerned could have been her last role is uh this uh the sale with Jen for Lopez yes yes yes that was such how could we forget the sale dog what a show the graphics oh my god really really similar to like a Van Horizon and in like a little like Hellblazer too just like the mind bending the body horror like what you think is real yes um and and uh and also you know not not a movie but it's it's it's uh it's topical love half country um major yeah that's it's it's extremely unique and uh yeah proud of it it'll be the only series you see a black person run the way we actually do have yeah not not not only run but like have like have agency and that actually like you know empower like like when she when she did that exorcism like with with voodoo and and and and and I it in part the races like the like you know like voodoo was always like evil and fucked up and you gotta sacrifice shit and that was and you know and that was and that was the scene of like where they got to you know use it you know use it use it for good because that's what the fuck is for uh you get the right people right things and uh things different way have y'all seen the cube yeah I've heard of it but I've never seen it yeah that's kind of like the sale too yes that was good that was a good movie is that the only good movie J Lo was in actually the sale don't open don't open that open do not open that J-Lo box of movies we're gonna be here all day because she can't but she was the best in the in the the cell all she really had to do was just kind of look pretty and say a couple lines but it was more so the visuals and the Beyoncing Lion King about halfway there say it again I said like Beyonce in the most recent Lion King reboot but like halfway so I'm going to edit that out because I do not need the beehive on my thank you I don't know why you didn't think of that ahead of time before making the statement twice.
SPEAKER_08So since we're not talking about the Lion King and since I believe Kazay is almost done with this list uh we can go ahead and wrap up this uh whole this like Queen of the Damned that was a good one that's gonna go forever we still have like two don't forget I have to edit this after the fact so because I need to edit it and I have coronavirus you in the house you know as well as I do that I have to edit it.
SPEAKER_13Just two what I got two honorable mentions.
SPEAKER_04Yes 1999 virus and I said that because a ghost ship yes um anybody remembers that where people going on the ship and then robots get people get turned to robots it was very like body glory type thing what is it called virus okay then another movie which nobody has mentioned I'm surprised is the King The Human City body horror and this is more of a comedy to be honest though we we would never be in that situation that's how also a Pan's labyrinth yeah Pan's labyrinth is like this very interesting relationship between like youth and war and the macabre it's a dissertation it is yeah it could do that you could do that did an amazing job with that though but there's so many different elements like I almost didn't want to call it horror I thought about it earlier but it there's so much shit that happens in that movie.
SPEAKER_12Yeah I think it's so brilliant guy who did the inferno right um this the the the costume design I think is the same person who did the inferno with the movie Guilmo del Toro the guy who did Hellboy as well I think he did Hellboy yeah he did Hellboy Shable Water I I didn't know Shape of Water and I was like you might be something but we'll leave that along well I do have one honorable mention Caroline Coraline I like Caroline better sound better better yeah oh I have one last one is like let's wrap it up my wrap it up box is upstairs so I couldn't use it oh sorry the color purple is also a horrible movie but anyway's another one that is like a light color purple um that was kind of like around what was it it was like mystical and the girl was fucking weird you're not talking about east bayou i mean and not east bayou the other one not east bayou it's like a same theme color purple ease pre not precious um it's a darling or my dear it's a it's like a word of term of endearment that's the name of the movie I know terms of endearment but like no not terms of endearment but it's like it is a term of like my darling or it it's like the same theme of the color purple ease bayou um precious or I forgot what the fuck the name is but it's it's like oh man it's gonna name in the comment section down below yeah if you don't what'd you say the doctor no is it beloved beloved yes that's what it is beloved was for but I did like it but my honorable mention is the others that was the one I forgot my honorable mention is the strangers oh that was really good yeah oh Antebellum's really good too with Janelle Monet.
SPEAKER_10Oh don't tell me because I want to watch it after I didn't it's good I'll just say that it's just it's good I heard it wasn't good I like it I've heard I've heard mixed thing but I also really like Janelle Monet so I consider it to be prop somewhat acceptable.
SPEAKER_12So Antebellum they say that the ending sucked and I didn't know if I wanted to watch it because people kept saying they didn't like the ending.
SPEAKER_04Um I mean I I I I have become a lot more disillusioned to people saying they don't like things because I have a lot of fandoms expect things to end the way they want them to end rather than the way that they actually ended up you know engaging critically with what that ending actually means rather than what they actually want to happen.
SPEAKER_12So yeah I had I had low expectations and I was already like ready to hate the movie but like by the end I was like okay this isn't as bad as I thought it was honorable mention for me I'm gonna because look I didn't have any paper so I wrote like everything on a bag wow damn baby so I see you're gonna be busy watching movies this month I don't know if anyone's seen it that's my uh honorable mention underwater I'm writing that down too anybody else have an honorable mention before I wrap this up channel zero channel zero which is not a movie but it talked um it was like a show and um there was like Pirate Cove and there was another channel zero where they it was a house that popped up out of nowhere and you and you have to survive this house but the how the deeper you get into the house the crazier shit shit happens. No one's ever heard of it like Channel Zero no the nun it's like an anthology kind of but it was like a series maybe I don't know maybe it's everybody like the nun no I kind of like how American horror story is an anthology but it's like of like the same story the entire season this one each episode is different but it's like it's called Channel Zero um and there's a one called Pirate Cove where these little kids they all talk about how they're watching this creepy ass show but no adults can see it. And when the kids are watching it it's actually just white noise.
