Hello and welcome back to the Blurred Spectrum Podcast. This week we are continuing our Halloween-themed, well more so horror-themed, episodes of the month of October. Uh, we've taken you through horror-filled video games, uh, your thriller scary movies, and now we have encroached upon something that I believe we can all uh uh uh benefit from, which is a kumbaya moment of reminiscing on our scary, horror-filled, scary themed anime cartoons and animated movies. Um, I'm hoping, well, not necessarily hoping, I just hope we can all control ourselves and not go down a 90s cartoon path, but still talk about all of the anime cartoons and animated movies that uh have scared us or uh uh you know make our heart race. So starting with our panelists, uh let me introduce them, beginning with myself, Suchino Shogun. We also have Shample Bracelets, we have Kaze, we have Seyone, we have the Black Majoy, Boljo Mollone, we have Joe Tsg.
SPEAKER_09Hey, you cool cats and kittens right now, right now, please, please. So we're not doing this again.
SPEAKER_01So today's episode, as I said, uh, we're going to bring up the anime, the cartoons, uh, the animated movies that we feel have, you know, either scared us, frightened us, or we feel like based off of their content and the way that they look are horror in nature. I'm sure some of our panelists have done research or have just decided to pull back into their memory banks of uh things of the past. So I'll go ahead and start us off. I normally don't, especially when it deals with horror. Uh, but cartoons are a different thing. I can enjoy those. Uh so the first thing that I want to talk about, I actually brought it up uh on the villains episode, uh, was the anime Psychopaths. Now, Psychopaths in and of itself is more psychological thriller, but it still has horror elements, of course. Uh it's a very frightening anime uh about personally, I feel like it's about where we're going to be in the next couple of years, which is individuals, oh not individuals, sorry, uh a machine or a computer-based system AI that is set up to determine whether or not individuals are malicious or whether they have any type of criminal intent. And instead of it being people who are detained, it's eventually going to be individuals who are just out on the street, uh scanned by security cameras, crosswalk. You could be in the airport, mining your business, maybe you miss your flight, you get a little bit too upset, and it scans your uh your uh your what do they call it? Your um ah, if the doctor was here, he'd be able to tell me. Uh it scans your uh color code. I'm saying it wrong, but it's fine for now.
SPEAKER_03Um, I was I thought you meant scan your retina, but yeah, it scans your aura sometimes.
SPEAKER_01Aura, that's a better way of saying it, uh, to determine whether or not you are um a threat to yourself or those around you. If you are, it goes up a particular ranking system and determines whether or not you either need to be detained, uh, be removed from that environment, or be eliminated from society. Uh, and there's several ways to do that. The, of course, more um horror-based is to be imploded at that moment. But you know, that's neither here nor there. Um, I also have second, third, and fourth places, uh, or just other ones to talk about. Um, I know somebody's gonna say this one, so I'll skip over it. Paranoia Agent is one from uh 2004. Uh it uh appeared on Toonami for a brief stint, uh cartoon. Uh, the reason why it scared the crap out of me is because I never actually saw it. I always came in at different scenes. So most of the scenes I saw was the kid on the inline skates with the golden bat whacking people's heads. So I'm like, what's going on? And then I would go to commercial, I would get distracted, and then miss the rest of the episode. So I never actually went back to watch that anime. But um basically, from what I researched, it's about a um uh allegedly this either spirit or this real kid who is killing people in Tokyo. Um, and the police believe that it is a designer who uh who is like the assistant or the designer of a company uh when his boss got killed by the same bat earlier in that day or earlier that week. So, but go enjoy it. Paranoia Agent seems nice. Next, Parasite the Maxim. As I said on the previous episode, it is a comedy to me. Uh it was a slice of life buddy comedy. Uh don't look at me like that.
SPEAKER_09Uh you just learned to let the shit go. You just learned to let her go.
SPEAKER_01No, but it is a horror anime about um uh our uh populace being infected uh by parasites from another planet. Uh they illustrated it through a shooting star uh towards the beginning of the series. Um and one by one, individuals were infected. Now, the main character, the main protagonist, uh was infected, but it didn't go exactly the way it normally is supposed to, uh, because the host is supposed to be killed, and then the parasite is supposed to uh um uh host or use the host uh and um live inside of the body. But our main character uh is now sharing his body with the uh parasite that decide to choose him, which you know increases his bodily endorphins and testosterone, causing to be stronger, faster, smarter, all types of things. So uh very interesting anime. I really enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_09Um it was the I was gonna say the the the the I guess the the funny part about the actual show is that the the the the parasites were they're aiming for people's heads. Yep, but this one missed and just walked out.
SPEAKER_07That's where all the comedy began. Yeah, I think uh caught the thing in his hand and and tied something around his hand before it can travel back up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he tied like a band or something.
SPEAKER_07So that nigga got stuck. He's like, fuck.
SPEAKER_09But uh it was like cause because you remember as the series was going on, like the parasite Miki was like because that's where he ended up in the hand. But Miki was the the way it was working, like they were trying it was dispersing itself amongst the body even more.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_09And so like it was spreading. And but if they were if it immediately got into the head like it was supposed to, it would have just you know taken over the head, eaten the head, and become the head and become the entire body.
SPEAKER_01But after entering, in body cop form, the main character slowly worn down Miki into the point where he was like, huh, I don't necessarily want to kill you immediately. Which he had several opportunities to take over the head, but chose not to because he found the benefit in living uh cooperatively within the human host.
SPEAKER_09I'd have to rewatch because I don't know if that was actually what happened, but for the most important thing. Because I remember that Miki was ultimately just trying to take over, but inevitably they kind of fused together because even I forgot the main character's name. Um, but he uh That's so sad The talking hand was more interesting. Um eventually he started his like eventually his whole personality started to change, like he became more like Nigi and um became less quote unquote human. And it was interesting because everyone around him started to notice these kind of different little changes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, in his specifically his you know, one of the love interests or the love interests.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah, yeah. Specifically one of the love interests because the thing that she loved about him, they he wasn't those things anymore. So it was fun. It was interesting. It was a very interesting topic.
SPEAKER_01It just taught me about symbiotic relationships and how, you know, although this is an off-planet, or not off-planet, but it's a uh one part of this is a parasite, just like real parasites in you know, uh in you know, animals and you know, other uh uh trees and other types of uh um uh biological uh beings. The the reason why the symbiotic relationship works is because each person or each organism is able to benefit off of the other one. But uh the tying around the arm leads me to my next one, which is Cabinary of the Iron Fortress. I've met I recommended this to Seone, actually myself and Joe TSG recommended this to Seyonet a couple weeks ago. Um uh if you could chime in, how do you like it so far?
SPEAKER_03I like it a lot. Um, I am a visual whore. So if I don't like your art style, I don't, I'm not watching it. I don't care how good the story is, I'm just not doing it. And I love how the art is just pristine, it's beautiful. Um, so it all automatically grabs my attention. And I love how these zombies are hard to fucking kill. So it's like a different version of 28 days later. They don't just run, they don't just hoard. You can't even kill them unless you try to kill them through their like steel heart.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_03So you're fucked. Um, which I I like that. I like I like how you know humanity has no no chance.
SPEAKER_01No chance. I don't know why, but it's like they they had to figure it out, took them a while, they had to figure it out to how to, you know, pierce these these hearts. And the main character in that one, he, you know, like I was saying, similar to um um to parasite, he had to he figured out that the infection from where he got the bite uh was slowly moving through his body, searching for his brain. Once it shut down his brain, then he would turn into a uh uh it's not a cabinary, cabinary is what he is because he's both uh it's uh cabin, I forget exactly the name of it, but um it's something with a K. But he tied uh almost like a noose around his neck, and the noose was cutting off the spread of the infection uh before it got all the way to his brain to completely turn him. Uh so I I loved, like you said, the art style, uh the story that went along with it, the uh the progression, because it's not like there was a uh end to it in any way, shape, or form. It was like this is this we came in, this has been happening for a long period of time, and now it's we're trying to find survivors as well as get to this endpoint. But this endpoint really isn't the end point. It's just it's it's it's an amazing anime. But not to take up all the time, I'll just go through my last ones really quick. Uh, so a couple of uh uh not honorable mentions, but I love Tokyo Ghoul, even though some of the people on this podcast do not. Um uh Dead Man Wonderland, one of my favorites. Um uh I Jin, the dead. RIP to that anime. What'd you say?
SPEAKER_09I said R.I.P. to that anime because it ended it actually, the entire anime itself was all of it.
SPEAKER_04I love it could have been much longer.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah, they it's like I don't know what they uh what happened, but it was like when they ended it, I was like, all right, what like I was working to do.
SPEAKER_03They ended the anime right where you thought, like, it was I think that was the shortest anime series that I've personally seen. It was only like 10 episodes, which was odd. Because we didn't have like 12 episodes per season, yeah, at least. So they just like kind of cut the shit off. And it was just so different because there was really nothing like it. You didn't have anybody that was kind of their powers was blood in that way, and so I thought that was pretty cool. Um, they it could have I think it could have had a huger cult falling if they continued.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's it.
SPEAKER_03Because now, yeah, they only had 10 episodes. I don't even think many people really remember it per se.
SPEAKER_01I think people remember the name, but not everything that you know went along with the anime itself. And I agree, you know, if it had more, if they gave it more time and they had more episodes, especially when it got moved on to uh Adult Swim, um, that was like the perfect opportunity if you wanted to, and if you could uh uh continue more episodes to kind of throw it out there and say, hey, America, you're you know, you're you're watching now, try this on. Even if it was a different art, not maybe not an art style, but even if it was, you know, kind of I don't use that word, um Americanized, that's the best way I can say it. Um, it's still, I think, kind of like how, you know, we all felt, well, the person, people who watched it felt the difference between um the full blood uh full metal alchemist and full metal alchemist brotherhood, how the first one was like, oh, I'm watching it, oh crap, oh crap, and then it kind of stopped. Then Full Metal Alchemist kind of take took the beginning or yeah, the beginning stages of Full Metal Alchemist, uh the original one, and kind of changed this middle section and then went on to finish it. And most people either say they never even saw the first one or didn't even don't even like the first one because it's a different storyline. So, you know, same similar so I feel like they could have done that and they could have got a lot of people to follow it and really be into it because it was a lovely anime. I love the the the the abilities they the very thought provoked because you know like you know, is ever if everybody's using blood, you know, how many different ways can you do it? But you know, like the girl with the blood hair, that was like just the thought behind that was just so interesting. Um yeah.
SPEAKER_03You said Audin, uh just to piggyback off of that. That's one of the very few animes that I hated the style. I don't like shell shading. Also, an issue with mine with Audin, I loved it. But the issue is that the character design, it was so flat-toned, like as in the color palette. So when they were in fighting scenes, you didn't know who the fuck was fighting who. And that was an issue for me because I wanted to like cheer them on, yeah, but you could only tell by the shape of the head or the body. But even still, like it was very, it was very confusing. But I did love the story. I think it had by far the most psychopathic uh villain that I love. He kind of reminded me of um Eisen. He had Eisen like quantity like qualities. That was that's Eisen where he's old as shit. And he was like very Yeah, like he was very charismatic, people loved him. He was like a Hitler, you know what I'm saying? It was very strange, but he only gave a fuck about himself. He didn't care about, you know, um a revolution for the greater good. He just wanted to fuck shit up and then just claim what's his and that's it. And he was great. I he was probably one of my favorite villains of anime history. So I enjoy that.
SPEAKER_01You didn't bring him up a couple weeks ago. You were about to say something, uh Sampler Bracles?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, um picking back on what Sarah Major said, the manga has the same issue with that, actually. Where it's like because you can barely ever, like with the exception of maybe slight changes in the head and hands, the enemies almost always look the same. So you'll watch these two people fight with their little shadow creatures, and it's like who's kicking ass?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_06So it was like so. It was, yeah, that was actually, and um, just like what she said, I hated that art style. I actually stopped watching it short. Like that was one of the few man animes that pushed me to stop watching and read the manga. Wow. Oh, it was like it was it was so because I I read the manga a little bit and stopped, and then I was like, oh, the anime's coming out and we watch that. I watched the anime and I was like hell to the no. And it actually fucked me up for a lot of Netflix animes altogether. Like it's just how it's built like uh a short.
SPEAKER_03It's that shell shading shit, like that 2D, and then it's like it's not even it's just like it was not like it's like old graphics from you know the 90s. So like there was no excuse to have the shell shading so like paused. Like if you see the fighting scenes, it was almost like watching an old kung fu movie where it was like kind of robotic. It wasn't yeah, it was just kind of weird because we're so used to fluid fluidity and art, especially with anime, on how progressive it is, you know, with each season, not even years, season what passes. So it was so strange seeing this shit. Maybe it would have been like fire when I was in high school, yeah, but like not now.
SPEAKER_01The way you're explaining it, you're actually making me re not rethink it, but like really think about each of those different scenes. Because now that I'm like thinking back on it, like the part that I love the most about Ajin was uh the the when they're doing the actual storytelling, when they're like moving around in the world, communicating with individuals, like the actual story part of it. The fight scenes, not that I don't remember them, they weren't what captivated me about the anime in and of itself. So that's interesting that you say that. Because now I'm like, do I even care about the fight scenes?
SPEAKER_06And when you watch it in the tattoo gym, like I gen has a good story to it. That's even in the manga, like the fight scenes aren't that great because it's a shadow feature. But like that whole it messes me up. That's the first anime that will mess me up for story sections because they move so much like robots. Like if that art style would have made more sense, and though they copied it over, you watch images on candy. But if you watch Transformers, it's the same art style. Yeah, if you watch transforms, it's the same art style, but they move more human in Transformers than they did in an IG.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and even Terraformers, but like Terraformers, it's a racist ass anime, but um is it's fucking racist. And it's horrible because there were certain elements of things that they could have just changed slightly that could have made it a great anime. But you knew, well, I mean, this is going off on a tangent, but it was more so the art style as well. It was shell-shaded, um, you know, the roaches, which they were these big ass roaches that look like black people. Yeah. So they were shell-shaded, but because of a simple character design, it could have changed the entire feel of the anime. So Ajin, I loved it. I loved it so much because the story was fire. Like I love that you can die and not really die. Yeah, you have to, yeah. So it was great. It was just, I wish they changed the art style a little bit more. And then I would have, it would have been like a A plus for me.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01All right. Let me give you my list so I let you guys go. Um, so one of my favorites, uh, I won't, I don't, I I I want to say of all time, but it's not over yet, and it's actually still going on right now, is ReZero. Um it's not much I think. Who?
SPEAKER_02Rem.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Yes. I can't. I'm not gonna go into and puck and puck when when he's there. But we'll talk about it later. I don't I don't spoil nothing.
SPEAKER_02It's called Ren.
SPEAKER_04Ren Puck is cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but he's when he's there. We're Puck at now.
SPEAKER_01Oh, here's hey, what did I just say? Let's not spoil it for nobody. This is still going on. Um uh, but let me finish my list. So I have the name of that one.
SPEAKER_03You said it's called Ren Zero.
SPEAKER_01Ray Zero R E R E.
SPEAKER_02Zero. Okay.
SPEAKER_01I could say the rest of the name, but I don't want to butcher it on a podcast, so I'm gonna leave it alone. But it is Isakai.
SPEAKER_02I'll put I'll put a link in the chat.
SPEAKER_01Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Okay, thank you.
SPEAKER_01All right, uh, so taking a little bit out of anime, well, not a little bit of whole weight out of anime for my list, Beetlejuice. Whoo! Whoo, Beetlejuice. Like Cartoon Network would play like several hours of Beetlejuice. I would sit through nothing against Scooby-Doo, but I would sit through regular Scooby-Doo just to get the Beetlejuice around one or two o'clock, and then Toonami would start. So it was like that was when my day started was when Pokemon wasn't on on WB Kids, I would switch over to Beetlejuice on Cartoon Network, and then I would watch uh Toonami. But Beetlejuice, uh, of course, based off of the uh the original movie, the cartoon was, I mean, it was based in this dimension that was supposed to be modeled out of one of the circles of hell and one of these like uh demented uh um dimensions, demented dimensions, uh, but it was it was phenomenal. I loved uh the kind of Avro Monsters grotesque style of drawing, uh the the monsters, the you know, it was like Halloween every single day. I thoroughly enjoyed that cartoon. Of course, next was Aro Monsters. Um I won't take this next one for nobody. Uh I'm sure Kaze is gonna say this one, so I'll just say the name, but I won't say anything about it, which is Castlevania. Um and then um Attack uh Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Huge throwback. Look, I thought about it, but it's no Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was a cartoon based off of the movie, which is very when the movie was created, is it was around the same time as like Blob and uh the beast that was represented in Thrill and a bunch of other movies. But Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was, I think, because I I had seen the original movie accidentally, I was like, yo, this car this cartoon's about to be like murderous. And it was actually happening, but it was like a weird translation because the main character's like best friend was half tomato, but she was a human being. It was like so weird. And like the tomatoes were like it's attacking the kid, like they literally would go around eating people. And I was like, yo, this is uh this is on like I think this was either on Fox or on WB. I can't remember which. Which might have been channel four, I don't know. But back in the day. Huh? Fox. Fox sounds about right. It does sound like a Fox. Yeah. But this is like back in the day, Fox, where they didn't have to like make everything, you know, four kids TV.
SPEAKER_06This was before the four kids era. This is right. This is right before the uh the one piece rap.
SPEAKER_01How dare you?
SPEAKER_06Yep.
SPEAKER_01How dare you? This is this is around the time where if you watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Shredder still had claws on his hand. It was that era. Right before four kids.
SPEAKER_06This is Street Sharks and Creepy Crawl and Scratch. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Um was that my last one? That was not. I think that was my last one. Yes, that was my last one. Alright. I will throw it over to Shampoo bracelets.
SPEAKER_04Maybe that was probably about to be better than okay.
SPEAKER_02So for me, of course, you know, I gotta dip into my 90s trade. So Curse the Cowardly Dog, of course.
SPEAKER_01Yes, Lord.
SPEAKER_02Um the bits and pieces that I saw Berserk, and it wasn't because I didn't want to watch it. We got kids, and he told me that's not something the kids need to watch. So I'm gonna throw Berserk in this too.
SPEAKER_04Nah, bro.
SPEAKER_02Um who was another one that we watched? Damn.
SPEAKER_04That's how we zero.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um that we watched. Oh, it is. Yeah, you can put it in a bit. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02We'll throw that. Almost turned that shit off. I'm gonna be honest with you. I don't do slow builds on animes at all. I will fall asleep.
SPEAKER_06Um she got the re zero after like six episodes and was like, alright, this ain't too bad. But at first she was like, nah, cut she was about to be like, cut this shit off. We can't watch it.
SPEAKER_02But it's like a minute, I'm sorry. Um you didn't watch the Demor Zero with me. I think that's it.
SPEAKER_04Sword Guy.
SPEAKER_02Sword Guy? That wasn't a horror to me. What do you guys have y'all seen Sword Guy on Netflix?
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00No, you watch comedy.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Okay, alright, cool.
SPEAKER_06You watch more of that than I do.
SPEAKER_02What was Sword Guy?
SPEAKER_06I mean, I don't even know how you would really describe it.
SPEAKER_02It was about a guy whose soul was attached to a sword, and he would turn into a knight, I guess if you want to call it that. And he would fight other knights, but it was like really dark the whole time, mostly. Like you had a couple of scenes that happened during the day, but I really didn't think that was a horror, but it got canceled because people thought it was too boring. I think it lasted for like two seasons.
SPEAKER_01That's more attraction than Dead Man Wonderland, so Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_06I I won't go back to that. That was you missed. Like I said, most of the stuff that Sushi O'Shogun said, that was my whole list. Dead Man Wonderland. I didn't watch, I watched the anime for the short time that it lived, but I ran through that whole manga.
SPEAKER_01So there it is.
SPEAKER_06Um that manga was good. That manga's good. The anime had greatly shortened a lot of that story. Um for the most part, you got a good gist of what happens in the manga.
SPEAKER_01So did they did did the anime encompass the entire manga or did it stop short? Like Leach?
SPEAKER_06It um they shortened the shit out of the manga, is the easiest way to say that. Like there's a lot of things that were skipped. It was some story elements that were skipped over and weren't talked about, and they kind of jumped to their own ending again, but it actually fell pretty close in line to the actual ending of the manga, so I can't be too mad at them. I mean, um, they I don't know if the writer kind of did the one piece thing and he knew how it was going to end, so he just kind of told him in advance, like, look, I bet y'all go do this all the way. Here you go. But like, but um, but yeah, it was it was not as far off as you would think. Um I would say Berserk is also in that list. Um, there's a manga that I read called Green World, where pretty much uh the ecosystem has taken over the world, and um and uh it made bugs incredibly big. But also it made these superhumans that did not some of them look like children, another one was a giant baby, like it was like a lot of random shit. Moths could shoot out spears of silk that could actually like hear some buildings. No, that was um, so there was Adiday.
SPEAKER_02Also, that was called this was just a clip.
SPEAKER_06I want to see it. I have not seen it yet, but I was gonna watch the value. Island of the giant bugs. And uh literally, the clip that I saw of it was these two mosquitoes, giant mosquitoes, literally dragged this chick through her ass or her face, and he killed another dude through his face.
SPEAKER_02Can y'all imagine that? Yeah, like it was like literally that whole image was just yeah, it was it was crazy.
SPEAKER_06One lady got eaten by hand-sized lice. All you saw was her arm that was left over. That was the creepyest shit. I don't see.
SPEAKER_09Um That's why you gotta sit listen, that's why black hair is amazing. You don't gotta go through that.
SPEAKER_06It was it was random, it was a white lady too. It was a random show. I know why.
SPEAKER_02Um also I don't know, this isn't animated, but um, of course, Sabrino on Netflix, and then Supernatural if you watch that.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01Did you say this isn't animated on an animated list? Yeah, I did. Okay, just making sure it was on the same page.
SPEAKER_09I guess on the table, she said I said when I said it, and you ain't gonna read it about it.
SPEAKER_03She made sure to repeat it for you, just in case you didn't.
SPEAKER_02And Billy and Mandy, even though that's not necessarily it was it wasn't scary, but Billy and Mandy.
SPEAKER_01Classified as horror.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's classified as like kid horror. So, you know.
SPEAKER_01Oh crap, I forgot Goblin Slayer. Damn it.
SPEAKER_04Oh, she you want to read the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01No, it was the face behind Joe T S G that for some it maybe reminded me of Goblin Slayer.
SPEAKER_03Um for a person who doesn't like horror, you watch a lot of horror cartoons and anime.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. Cartoons and anime. Oh, wait, there's another one.
SPEAKER_03What was the next one? What was the next one? Yeah, I was flipping this.
SPEAKER_02We watched Hellsing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Helsing was another one.
SPEAKER_03Um let me get my list. I love how you guys are like reaching. You're like, oh yeah, we got another one.
SPEAKER_06But she keeps pulling me, and I like I got this list in my head that I'm trying to go off of, and now I'm just trying to lose it. But uh, in terms of two older cartoons, uh, some of some older cartoons that were like thriller slash horror was uh Exosquad was one, um, which I don't know how many people remember that, but it was Gundam, it was the Americanized Gundam before Gundam Wing came to America and shat on it. Um another one was Mutant League, which was pretty much NFL. But when I remember that you remember that? So um, yeah, that was low bad.
SPEAKER_01Is that why it was scary? I'm confused.
SPEAKER_06Um what was uh it was well that and the fact that it was like you had people like literally getting their libs blown off off time. It was just it was some random stuff. Um Love Death and Robots Love Death and Robots is another one. I don't know if we yeah, I I'll consider hard because some of it was just so good. And uh Castlevania was also taking it away from me. Thank you very much.
SPEAKER_01First of all, I didn't take it away from you. I said I'm going to either hand it to I said I was gonna hand it to Kaze because I knew it would be on their his list. Yeah I just said the name. I didn't even talk about it.
SPEAKER_06What I'm not gonna hand to him, which I appreciate he'll mention, is Devil Man Crybaby. Damn it! As many mics take it away, y'all about to get robbed. Uh and I read Devil Man actually. I read Devil Man, I watched the original, and I watched Devil Man Crybaby. All of them were amazing to me. And they were even in this close. Devil Man Crybaby is like incredibly close to like the the way the manga. I mean, the way the manga and the previous animes go. So that was that was really good as well. Um lastly, I would say uh what was the last one I had on my mind? I have one more. Oh yeah. Two from WebTunes, which uh they I don't they'll they'll probably never get the attention they want. But Hive and Sweet Home.
SPEAKER_00Shut up. Shut up. Shut up.
SPEAKER_06Hive and Sweet Home were two of the I've read some of the best.
SPEAKER_01Now Joe gotta get another one.
SPEAKER_06Get this robbery. Uh brother. But anyway, it's like it was like Hive was about literally giant bees taking over the world. And it was um, and you find out that it was government, like it was a government project, and it was just the way they carried it out, the way they had the main character portrayed trying to get his wife back, is just incredibly well done. And sweet home is just takes uh the personalities, or it's like, what if your wants and your innermost, deepest, your deepest, most innermost um desires could turn you into a monster. It doesn't matter what you want, it could be as slow as like you just want your family to live to I just want to, I just want to, you know, get big in the gym. It can be literally any of your your innermost desires can make you into a monster that represents that. And they do that story incredibly well. Uh for right now, oh yeah, one more, um, which is uh it was like Friday Night Fights, which they have ended now, but it won it was a good two-year-long run on web twos of just different stories every Friday. And it was range, this writer was so good he could range it from anything from you know inner sp inner, like uh inner interstellar fights where we're used as pets like Pokemon, to uh just you getting trapped with your loved one on a pillar and then you're gonna be able to get it.
SPEAKER_09Like what? Huh? Like wait, like like what?
SPEAKER_06Like saying the aliens came to Earth and captured us and then used us like Pokemon.
SPEAKER_09Oh, oh, oh, oh, so it does sound as horrible as okay.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like like you don't need to follow this one guy, and you're thinking he's just a gladiator. And then you find out, nah, he actually like he actually is being used.
SPEAKER_09You know what? I just wanted to I just wanted to validate the fact that Pokemon sounds fun until you say, oh, let's make humans do this shit. Oh, oh, it's not that cute.
SPEAKER_06Right, so that's slavery, right? It was it was the wildest shit to watch.
SPEAKER_09It was literally until it has to happen to them. It's like, you know what? Maybe that's kind of fucked up. Yeah, never mind.
SPEAKER_07Okay, this thing was a whole thing. To be fair, we did that. We we did that already. The gladiators were slaves, so that's not like we didn't do it already.
SPEAKER_04But they weren't aliens in our ass.
SPEAKER_03That was humans.
SPEAKER_06We actually got like these gladiators, and I'm just gonna swallow this this one of many stories, but like think if you're that Pokemon and you're getting poker treats because you did so well in your fight. That's what they did to this nigga.
SPEAKER_09That sounds like a conviction.
SPEAKER_06He's like, he's like looking at his master, like all happy that he did this. He's giving his monologue, how he gave off a beautiful show, and then you see him in the back of the cage looking up at his master with his tongue out, so happy that he did well. And the master literally gives him what looks to be a poker treat.
SPEAKER_03That's like pulling up the apes. That reminds me of her, that reminds me of Plenty of the Air.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah, I remember that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, how they would like pet us and shit and feed us a little treat. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06It was wild. It was it was wild more so because of the reaction of the guy. Not because he was getting the treat, but because the dude looks like a happy dog. Like he's pantsy, he doesn't understand what the alien's saying to him. He's just happy that the alien is not beating him.
SPEAKER_03And he didn't know how tricky you are by this, you know. Now I have to worry about like the fucking alien.
SPEAKER_06That whole thing was crazy. But uh, but uh yeah, that was pretty much all mine that I can remember off of the top of my head.
SPEAKER_01So you had plenty and I didn't steal none of them.
SPEAKER_06For robbing me blind.
SPEAKER_02You had plenty and I didn't steal none of them. Yeah, but then you robbed like three other people. Yeah, they had to go with the brother.
SPEAKER_06I can't be the only one.
SPEAKER_02I'll have it.
unknownI'm petty.
SPEAKER_01Um all right, so we will throw it over to okay. So two people were robbed in that last one. Um, it looks like one of them is still researching, so I'm going to give it to the other one. Uh, Miss Sayone.
SPEAKER_05Oh, be careful.
SPEAKER_01Miss Sayone got a whole like list in her hand.
SPEAKER_03I do coming for fire. Just be prepared to cross stuff off.
SPEAKER_01I'm surprised.
SPEAKER_00At least I'm making a second list just in case.
SPEAKER_03I do have a list. So um I'm gonna pick like I guess the ones that a lot many people don't know about. So Monster was an anime.
SPEAKER_01Um, it was it was like kind of looks like you just stole one from job from Joe TST again. Sorry.
SPEAKER_03Joe very much goes into like anime that not many people delve into, and um and that's kind of like my run today. Zobsil song. I hope I hope it's not on your list.
SPEAKER_01I want to get a whole new list, Joe.
SPEAKER_03Making a second list just in case.
SPEAKER_07I I knew I know I knew as soon as she said not many people. I'm like, she go ahead and have my yeah, she's gonna have my list.
SPEAKER_09Like I was saying this whole time, but bitch, I'm dead.
SPEAKER_03I'm that yeah, monster is um, it was very different because it wasn't based in um Asia at all. It was actually based in Europe, and even the art style was white people, and so um I don't want to give too much away, but it was a psychological crime horror, more so. Um, not the it's not like the run of the mill slasher. It was more so like how can somebody be so cunning? You like a real life Aizen for real without the superpowers? Um, so I really liked Monster. It made you think, and you have to you actually had to pay attention. You couldn't like walk away to use the bathroom and come back. No, you had to read every single fucking detail because everything tied into each other. Um Akira, which is the classic of all classics, Akira, the movie, I think it was like late 80s. Um Paprika as well, um, which was another great movie. It dealt it was basically the anime version of the cell, which I loved. So uh you had uh these scientists who were able to build a device to go into the brain, and sometimes you don't want to see what the fuck is going on in these crazy ass people's brains, and it is trippy as fuck. Um, Madoka Magica, of course, is basically like if Sailor Moon done fucked all the way up. That's basically how Madoka Magic is. It's just every possible, you know, thing that you can think of that is going to kill everybody. And while everybody looks so sweet and innocent, like it'll it'll fuck up your childhood if you were like a little girl, like, oh, I'm gonna watch little another, you know, magical girl. No, it'll mess up your whole life, which is great. I love it. I love that type of aesthetic. Um I said I love that type of aesthetic where you know you feel like you're gonna watch like a magical girl anime, but it's like magical girls. Oh, Madoka Magica. Madoka Magica.
SPEAKER_09Okay, officially got one stolen from me, but that's all right.
SPEAKER_03Um sorry.
SPEAKER_09Um it's all right, it's all right. Um I would have rather it been you.
SPEAKER_03Oh, thank you, Boo Boo. Um Japan Sinks from Joe T S G.
SPEAKER_01That shit was Joe is uh material, Joe.
SPEAKER_06I was like, yeah, there's so much I didn't steal from people.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah, um, yeah, attack on Titan. Um Mononoke, which is Mononoke, which is another one. Not Princess Mononoke, Mononoke the series.
SPEAKER_09No, it's an actual series of Mononoke.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's beautiful, it's like the Edo period, oh Japan, you know, the kabuki and the art style is fucking beautiful. It's it's such a different medium that I'm used to. It's kind of like looking at a combination of watercolors, 2D, collages, and they each one is like an anthology of sorts, and they go by different Japanese.
SPEAKER_09It's such a gorgeous show. It's so beautiful, gorgeous.
SPEAKER_03Um Ninja Scrolls, which is another classic. Um, also Spirited Away. Not that the entire movie was creepy, but No Face was fucking terrifying as hell. Like, what the fuck? Like, he was terrifying, like he would eat more, and then he was just huge blob, and that nigga was fast with them little it-bitty arms. Like he was booking it. Like, I was I was afraid that.
SPEAKER_09I mean, I could personally identify with that eating style, so you know, uh, you know, there's some humanity there.
SPEAKER_03Um, let's see. Blood Plus, which was probably the only blood that I actually liked. Um again, you have taken another one from Joe TST.
SPEAKER_01I'm just I'm just keeping score.
SPEAKER_03It's okay. Honestly. Um, let's see.
SPEAKER_01Um better say your name than anybody else.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean I'm done. Like like Elfin uh lead and you took another one from Joe TLC. You know, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_01I like how she said I'm done, and then says Elfin lead.
SPEAKER_03Like you have to understand, this is my genre. So I actually on purpose look for everything that fits underneath this category. This is the only anime that actually anime genre that actually interests me. If it's not sci-fi and horror, I'm not watching fucking slice of life, I'm not watching romance. So I have to watch like horror and and like fighting and um sci-fi messages.
SPEAKER_01No need to defend yourself. We knew this was yours because you've been talking about this for months. So we I think the most I think what Joe is going, what's going through Joe Tsg's head is um he just needs to come harder. He he expected to get things outside of your realm or things that you wouldn't mention. And if you look on his face, he's like a uh uh uh on his 17th hour of gaming. He's looking in the computer researching new anime that she hadn't even come up with. That's see, he just has to come her harder.
SPEAKER_00She's kind of taken away list two, so I'm gonna have to go back to the card. Damn! I was just switching.
SPEAKER_03Very quickly, last week was the bag, and now it's cardboard. Yeah, we we do was that your last one? Oh, yeah, that was it. Yeah, there's no more. Because I was gonna say Devil Man Crybaby, but Mark took it and I was pissed. I like that one. Shit.
SPEAKER_09Oh, I think it was like a like if I had to say that the whoever created it, if it was like supposed to be a magnum opus as far as like anime were concerned, they did that. Yeah, that that was amazing. It was amazing from art style to storytelling to the very brilliant ending. It was it was it was phenomenal.
SPEAKER_03I did want to say one thing about Doublemen, Crybaby, and Berserk. Um, so I'm as everybody knows, I mean I'm a huge um advocate for colors when it comes to like color scheme and how it makes you feel. And I loved how the villains weren't black or dark, like, and that is a common theme that we usually see in a lot of anime, a lot of cartoons, um, a lot of uh live action, is that the villain is always of a dark nature, and you know, there's levels to it, of course. But that was something I loved how Griffith was fucking white and pristine and blonde, and the devil was white, pristine, and blonde. I love that shit because it basically makes you think like, you know, this is not something that you usually see often. And I love that that shift of color when it comes to who you think the evil person is. You know what I'm saying? I think it's just it's just too normalized that dark is bad. And it comes across in everything, even in real life. So I love seeing the different change of color palettes when it came to this evil ass person. So that's why it's definitely on my those things are on my list as well.
SPEAKER_09Oh my god, you remember this the little child who was turning into a devil? And that his parents were trying so hard to make sure that he was okay, that he was safe, he was taken care of, that he was fed, and then by the end of the entire arc, like he had transformed into a full devil and was eating his mom, and his dad had to like kill him. It was so much.
SPEAKER_01Let me do this just does anybody else see the the the the ray of light shining. Down on Stitch as if it's the golden child?
SPEAKER_04Yes. Stitch is the golden child.
SPEAKER_01So I actually forgot one. Sorry. I've been trying to think of the name of the anime, and I was going to ask Kaze. I doubt it's one of the ones on your list. I doubt it. I doubt it. Because it's one I liked that we had seen together. But I think I I'm pretty sure you finished it, but I know I for a fact finished it. And it was uh Grimgar, Fantasy and Ash. Fuck you.
SPEAKER_05Dang it.
SPEAKER_01I would I promise I wasn't trying to take yours. I was so God. That was an MMO. That wasn't on purpose. No, it's because I I really enjoyed that storyline. And like I said, I I love Goblin Slayer. Um I love Goblin Slayer. And it's a it's similar to Goblin Slayer, but the difference, of course, is it's an uh uh uh Grimgar is another Isekai. And um, without going too too far into the detail, it was just like, oh, you know, we're we're new kids in the on the block, and we just like entered this adventure fantasy world, and you know, we don't know what we're doing, we don't know how we got here. All we remember is staring up at the sky, and the next thing we knew we woke up in this world. Now we have to be adventurers to earn our keep, to live our lives. We're not, you know, we didn't we have we can gain powers and we have powers, but that's necessarily that's not how the entire world works, and they have to kind of grind, and you know, they're living this new life, and then all of a sudden, you know, it's as soon as the leader, uh, I think his name was Monato or Nanato or Minato. Um, he uh was there, he I mean, he wasn't like a self, uh he didn't call himself the leader, but he was just the person who rallied them together, was the one that helped them form the team, and he was also the the clerk. And you know, he's in that joint, and then all of a sudden, a couple episodes in he gets killed and it devastates the entire team. Like, niggas don't want to go nowhere, niggas don't want to earn their keep no more, niggas don't want to fight nobody, and it it uh it I think honestly, if I hadn't seen that anime uh anime, I wouldn't have been prepared for a Goblin Slayer because just the way that was like like a baby version of Goblin Slayer, in my personal opinion, kind of prepared you for that type of like trippiness later on in life. But anyway, that was sorry. So I'm just gonna let Joe go because I don't want you not ready? You want store?
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna say something I forgot. I was gonna say something I forgot. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_01I don't nope. I'll let uh I'll let the black McCoy go now.
SPEAKER_09So I'm a lot of the ones I was gonna say, kind of the the more American cartoons can say like Courage and Castlevania, Aura Monsters. Um Creepy Crawlers was like lightly mentioned, but I think it kind of flies really far under the radar because it was so cartoonish. It was so like adamantly cartoonish, and it was drawn from a very simple concept that uh I don't think a lot of people actually remember the show itself. Um Invader Zim was definitely one of my favorite horror ones. Um we were talking about it earlier, but it was like the one of the best episodes of Invader Zim for me was the episode where he was getting his physical done and he had to appear human when it came time for his physical. But because he's an alien, he doesn't have any you know human internal organs at all. Um he had to he went around abducting organs from random children and replacing them with the most random shit that he could find, like cans of soup, spoons, someone had a bird um inside of them, like and he he over he over he overstuffed himself so much that he looked like this like morbidly obese, like job of the hut looking thing with organs, organ juice spilling out of his mouth and organs spill organs spilling out. Like there was one point a whole like piece of intestine was hanging out the side of his mouth, and it was really interesting. Um, I love that episode. Um, I think another I'm also thinking about cartoons that had like really good horror episodes. Um, like the Powerpuff Girls when they had the Boogeyman episode and when they had the uh episode with that zombie magician, like those are two really good episodes.
SPEAKER_01Avocadaver.
SPEAKER_09Um that episode creeps me out for very obvious reasons. Africadaver I don't do zombies.
SPEAKER_01Going inside of the widow, uh, what's that thing called? The um the uh steel, what's that called Alcazar?
SPEAKER_09The Iron Maiden? Iron Maiden. There it is.
SPEAKER_01I was like the the widow, the the mother, the yeah, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_09I I don't I don't like zombies, so that's not true that I do. But I found like it it hit me bad when I was little. Um which ironically brings me to the next one of the next anime, High School of the Dead, which is one of the few zombie things I did watch and relatively enjoy.
SPEAKER_01Funny enough, it was too much for me. I couldn't do it.
SPEAKER_09My favorite no, my favorite part of that anime was like at the beginning when there was like the zombie outbreak and you had the two little girls who was like, we're gonna make it through this together. As soon as this bitch got grass, she was like, let the fuck get the fuck off me. Let me go. Nope. That's it. We ain't no more friends forever. That's it. There's a line, and you cross it. Um, let me see. What else is on this? We already said for more. Oh, I can't believe no one said gants yet.
SPEAKER_04Damn it. I just was on Joe TST's list.
SPEAKER_03Don't say gas.
SPEAKER_09There you go. It was a great show. And it was a great movie. Like even when it was. It was such a phenomenal show, like the body horror aspects, a lot of the demons and creatures, the mutilation was amazing. And the very nuanced and beautiful. And even at the end of the movie, it's like they captured that those same elements of like how fucked up the entire story is by the time you one finds themselves wrapped around um, you know, actually, you know, winning the challenges or whatever. Um, I always say paranoia agent. Death Note is absolutely one of my favorite horror shows ever. And it's more like psychological horror, more like thriller horror. Um, but just the the the idea of posing the question of viewers of like, what would you do, or what kind of person would you be if you found yourself with this kind of power? And like it questions where people would find themselves morally and ethically, and you know, where how people would impose their values in one way, shape, or another. It's like, would you use a death note? Would you not use a death note? If you did find a death note, what the fuck would you do? Then would you leave it there? Or would you, you know, like what what what what would you do if you found yourself in that situation? And it even pushes the question of like, well, even if you found the death note and you figured out what it did, would you hang on to it? Um, and if so, why? And you know, uh that in and of itself was a really good good one for me. Um, ah, one of my absolute favorite horror anime is Pet Shop of Horrors. Pet Shop of Horrors is a Chinese anime.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Oh Joe.
SPEAKER_01Well, like my why?
SPEAKER_03I mean, I have questions. So I mean, because there's not so many um, I guess, horror anime cartoons out there, it's not like a huge plethora of it.
SPEAKER_01Um we can't. I saw a list of a hundred earlier.
SPEAKER_03There's a lot, there's a lot of movies.
SPEAKER_01There's a lot.
SPEAKER_03But it's like it's compared to movies though, it's different. Like compared to so like comparing to like movies, there is a lot, but there's so much more shown in. So we're gonna run into like similar anime, we're gonna use each other's lists. I guess like we could also talk about like what what are the horror elements that you liked out of it? Because everybody's core element is different out of that anime as well. Even if, like, let's say if shampoo bracelet's used berserk, their reason for liking berserk might be different from the black McCoy. So like I guess what what is it about that particular anime that we've probably all watched, why it affected you per se?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, because I think y'all can't steal my experiences from me. I'm I'm going down my shit.
SPEAKER_01I figured it.
SPEAKER_09But uh the well, but uh the reason I like pet shop of fours is because um, so for those of you who don't know or haven't the premise of the show is that there's this uh this character named Count D. He runs this pet shop in Chinatown in LA. And that makes it that much more interesting for me because now you've had you you find all these different people in America coming to this pet shop for different things. And he's known for carrying all of these creatures that you can't find anywhere else or really rare, or in some cases illegal, probably. And they're all these kind of like mythical creatures. And if you go to the pet shop and you take one, there it's like it's you have to sign a contract for each one, and each contract for each creature is different, and there are rules that you can't break. So it's kind of like um gremlins, yes, kind of like gremlins, where like if you break these rules, then they're gonna be dire consequences, and all the consequences are typically typically wind up as someone being dead. And so there is this um this detective who's been investigating all these um grizzly murders and disappearances and stuff like that that end up being tied back to um this pet shop. And so he's investigating the pet shop and he's investigating Cal D because he thinks that Cal D is like involved in some like illegal human trafficking or some shit like that. Um, and so the story like continues to unfold from there, and you get these kind of um more episodic adventures with these people who adopt these creatures um for one reason or another. I'm if I'm remembering correctly, there was like this parent and um this these two parents who had lost their daughter, and they went and adopted this rabbit, and the rabbit uh took the shape of their daughter, and I forgot what the rules were, but of course they ended up dying. I forgot why. Um, but yeah, yeah, yeah. It like stuff like that. And it like it it's a very interesting show to go through. The animation style is phenomenal. It does give that very like old kind of late 80s, early 90s um anime art style, which is done really well even for its time, so it doesn't feel quote unquote old. It feels just like uh a more unappreciated timely art style. Um let me see. I want to go on, but I don't wanna I don't want to step on. Oh, no one said spawn, and I and I feel like we kind of did that a disservice because that was an amazing spawn was amazing, was like the most obvious cartoon that we could have gotten. It was amazing. So great. It was an amazing cartoon.
SPEAKER_01It was on my list, and I knew either Kaze or Joe had it. 97.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that was a good year. Oh, such a good year.
SPEAKER_03Which channel did Spawn um show up on? I didn't even know that it was a cartoon.
SPEAKER_07Uh I think Spawn was like MTV.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00MTV or um yeah, either that or BH1.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, it was it was definitely probably more MTV than BT. Because MTV was known for having those weird cartoons and things. You're right.
SPEAKER_00It was MTV because it came on the same channel as um Real World.
SPEAKER_01It came on it came on around the time as Aeon Flux. Yep.
SPEAKER_06Like it was the first time the C that was HBO.
SPEAKER_01It might have been on HBO afterwards. Okay, man. And the Max. Was that the end of your list? Slack McCoy?
SPEAKER_09Um, no, the last one I have. Um my last one, it's pretty timely, but I'll say I'm I want to throw Scooby-Doo out there because Scooby-Doo's had so many different iterations. And Scooby-Doo was like that early kind of like horror mystery, horror like horror thriller that was really made for kids, in my personal opinion. I mean, I'm pretty sure there are other things that came before it, but it was like one of the things that were I think it's been one of the most consistent ones throughout all of time. Like it's been one of the things that has gone through so many different iterations um of dealing with monsters and dealing with kind of the more um the more insidious aspects of social horror. Um, where sure we get these people we get these, we get these monsters that we have to deal with, you know, episodically, but there's always some overarching more um sociological problem that goes along with it. Like you have someone who's trying to, you know, you pick someone from a home who so they can, you know, take over that, take over that plot of land and use it for, you know, land development or some shit like that. Like there's always some and I think that's actually why I saved it for last, because at the end of the day, Scooby-Doo was um a horror but for actual people. And it show it it was a it's a it was a much more liberal show than I think people give it credit for or will really recognize, because the horror in Scooby-Doo was the fact that we live in a society or a system or a world in which um the fear that we actually have is the the more irrational one. It'd be more rational to be afraid of the people that live around you because they'll go to the means, whatever means that they need to, in order to get the more uh materialistic things that they want. And by materialistic, I mean more so the more economic and capitalistic ways in which they're driven to you know reach whatever goals or whatever material possessions they're trying to get a hold of.
SPEAKER_03I just logged in to the Black McCoy University and I'm making sure that I have all of my stuff down. So I have my writing utensil professor, and I'm ready for my homework assignment.
SPEAKER_01Phenomenal. All right. Uh so we have two left. Uh, who would like to go first? Because I don't want anybody to feel insulted.
SPEAKER_03Uh I go back for Joe. Like, we'll let Joe go because Joe is about to have a heart attack.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um CSG. All right. So my list is kind of divided in categories.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure.
SPEAKER_00So I'm gonna try to keep it short somewhat. So I'm gonna start off with um mangas and comics. So uh Jamplu bracelet already mentioned Sweet Home. Um but there's another one uh by the same uh writer, Pig Pen, which is really cool. It's about this guy who wakes up on a on a secluded island um and he meets this family that are like into uh how would I say almost like a cult. They have like a cult mentality. Um and you also find out that there's been a number of murders and that this family is behind that pretty much. Um another one, um, I don't know if you guys are familiar with Junji Ito, but he's pretty much the father of Japanese horror. Um so Uzamaki, uh Spiral's uh Tomy huge recommendations. They also came out with Cuncharo came out with a um a a horror uh anthology um of his work. Highly recommend it. Um some people don't really care for it because of the animation style and it doesn't really uh match the the manga too much, but the shading I personally think is great. Um another one is um second list, let me check. Oh, okay. So um Constantine Everything, everything by Constantine, personally, but the animation, uh City of Demons. Huge fan of that. Uh Spawn, uh Goosebumps, Tales of the Crypt Creeper, the animated series.
SPEAKER_01I saw that one, I skipped it. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_00Uh one of my favorites. Uh Ren and Stimpy. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna put that on my list.
SPEAKER_00Like, if an acid trip was a show, I feel like that's what Ren and Stimp would be pretty much be.
SPEAKER_03Um didn't have no body. Like the parents, like it was so strange because I was gonna write it down, but I didn't know because it was just so fucking acid trip. Like the you saw the the parents and they had no top half.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I'm like, this should be fucking this this isn't right because there's no blood. It was just a parallel.
SPEAKER_09Oh, you mean like in Cow and Chicken?
SPEAKER_03Cow and yes. Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm thinking Cow and Chicken. Red and Stimpy was was something of a completely different different animal.
SPEAKER_00Definitely acid trip, yeah. Um continuing, uh, one of my favorite and probably only like comic series that I just will die for is the Blackest Night series. Or Darkest Night. Not Blackest Night, no, Darkest Night. List look it up, Joe. Come on. Blackest night series. Yeah, Green Lantern. Uh fucking. Oh, that's what I thought you meant, but I was like, so because there is a a anime called Darkest Night. There is. So I was gonna I got kind of like. So good. I just found out it was like a sequel slash um remake. So there's gonna be they're actually including more of the uh OVAs and apparently there was a PlayStation 2 game that had came out that I was not aware of. So they're adding scenes from uh from that into the new remake. Um there's also Yuman Echo When Seagulls Cry, if you are familiar with um When They Were None by Agatha Christie, uh, which is pretty much a murder mystery. Uh it's kind of inspired by that, kind of loosely.
SPEAKER_09Um also Hellgirl, which is like this Oh, I forgot about Hellgirl.
SPEAKER_02Yes, that was a good one.
SPEAKER_00Pretty much like an anthology collection of of um so each episode basically it's someone who a person basically wants this person dead, and so they go into this website to basically request this person to be sent to hell, and that's when Hellgirl kind of comes in play and shit gets real real. Uh The Promised Neverland.
SPEAKER_04Damn it.
SPEAKER_00Um such a great series. Um From the New World, which came out like 2012, which is basically this like uh fantasy coming of age story meets like but they're all in like this apocalyptic world universe type situation. Um uh serial experiments serial experiments lane, which came out Lane, yeah, 2002. So if you're like a fan of Evangelion, uh what else came around that time?
SPEAKER_03Um that's straight nineties. That was straight ninety.
SPEAKER_00That was like two thousand two, two thousand three, really.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it is?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's that was like two thousand two.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yes, because of the computers. So is that ghost in the shell type?
SPEAKER_00Kind of, yeah. So it's basically like about this uh so the there's like this uh basically more advanced future version of the internet. Um, the girl who's the main character. Um basically she has a friend who ends up dying, and then later she gets an email from that dead friend, and that's when shit gets kind of real from there. Um basically the deceased friend says that she ends up finding God within the the version of the internet. I can't remember what it was called. The Wired? Yeah, something like that, I think. Um I'm also a huge fan of Cube Girls and Murder. Uh so yeah, Higarashi for one. Uh school of love, which is pretty much like a zombie apocalypse type show. Um who else do I have? Oh, second list. Ergo proxy. Yeah, um I didn't even know that would be horror though. I guess that I thought that was like ghosts in a shell better though, like with uh thing that involves murder for me just ends up being horror, horror. Um also witchblade, uh Steinsgate, which is more of a psychological.
SPEAKER_01How did I forget about why isn't that on my list?
SPEAKER_09Oh no, I was gonna like there are a lot of stuff we missed.
SPEAKER_01Like, but I saw that one and I was sure I put it on my list.
SPEAKER_06I was about to put stuff out and I'm like, let me wait and see what everybody else does before I start like stealing from the grave players.
SPEAKER_09I did that because of like the everyone else's list. Like we talked about a lot of shows, but I'm thinking about a lot of movies we didn't talk about either.
SPEAKER_01Perfectly fine. Um we'll have more time later.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we will. Sometimes, maybe we'll see. Like, I have another list. Uh Corpse Party. Uh more so the games. I actually haven't seen the anime. Um also Blood Doc Blood Plus, Blood Sea.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's what I Talent Flame said Blood Sea as well.
SPEAKER_00All three of those. Uh Requiem from the Darkness. Classic. Um So uh I uh break it's uh uh recommendation and I uh uh play dokie dokie. So huge one highly recommend. Uh it's not uh it's not an animation or anything like that, but they are coming out with a manga I just found out. So there's that. Um and my last one uh Muchi.
SPEAKER_03What a great show. Oh what a great show. That was a great point.
SPEAKER_00That's that's pretty much what I'm gonna end it for right now.
SPEAKER_01You had plenty.
SPEAKER_03I actually have two more lists, but I was like, I'm I'm gonna just don't do it, because I have one that I wanted to say, and you're probably gonna say it.
SPEAKER_01I don't all right. Uh rounding it out, Kaze.
SPEAKER_00So goosebumps. Now I'm done.
SPEAKER_07You said goosebumps. But uh all right, so I'm gonna uh I I'm gonna start with uh I'm I'm gonna I'm glad somebody said uh Ren and Stimpy because one of the most horrifying things I saw as a child was the episode of uh the episode of Ren and Stimpy where uh Ren Ren was like feeling like he was having like body image uh issues and he wanted to get uh plastic surgery. And and so you know he wanted to he wanted to get like you know like uh you know like fake chest and abs and shit. And so and so Tempy offers the but the fat the fat from his butt. So like so Ren could like you know get this like plastic surgery done. And and like and even as a little kid, like the shit was hitting like swimming levels because because Ren was all always like emotionally abusive of Stempy and it was just really fucked up, like how like Ren was like in his own feelings and Stampy was like doing everything like to like sacrifice for him. And then and then and then they like go into the actual like surgery. And like, and of course, like you know, they don't they don't show it, but it's like it's just like a it's just like Ren is on the doctor's table, and all you see is like the doctor's back. And and you see the doctor like bringing in all these like crazy ass tools and like and and just the sound the sound effects and the implication of like what the doctor was like doing to Ren's body, like it made him sick.
SPEAKER_01Real quick question Was there not, I mean maybe I I maybe I just created in my head, which Kazai says I do all the time, but was there not a scene where there was like a scoop, like an ice cream scoop of fat from Stimpy's look? I'm trying to make sure I I remember seeing that. I'm like, you said it didn't show it. I'm like, I remember that, but I I I get what you mean.
SPEAKER_07Go ahead. Yeah, yeah. No, they um yeah, that the episode like like like like I had to leave the room and like and I like I didn't throw up while I was in the bathroom because my stomach was doing things. And that that shit just fucked with me. Um uh also also another honorable uh honorable suggestion was uh is uh Alika, um uh killer sister from uh Hunter Hunter. Ah, something like the whole like you know, the rules set, the way the power worked. Um it was, you know, it was like so interesting and horrifying and amazing, and yet, you know, and yet you were still like rooting for it. It was just like so well written and done, and like in the way like the whole family was like against her, it was like really well done. Um but all right, so what's left? Oh yeah, also uh my uh by say Black McCoy already brought up Scooby-Doo, but the best Scooby-Doo for me was the 13 ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
SPEAKER_01I I was gonna say that, but I didn't want to introduce that. Because that that felt like the one that was the actual real horror or real monsters of Scooby-Doo. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Shit like shit got real. They had that uh they had that cool ass uh little Middle Eastern kid. Yeah. But I'll say it was like that was the that was my introduction to Scrappy. And and uh and and when in in a in a few times when they were like was dealing with like a charlatan and not a real ghost, like everybody else running, and Scrappy will jump on that nigga and tear the hood off because he's about that life.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_07You know, he's about to even when he wasn't really about that life, he's about that life. Sometimes they'd snatch his little ass up. But um also had uh Vincent Price playing that Doctor Strange looking nigga. Uh and his his voice work is always amazing. Oh. But um, let's see, uh going down my list, uh, y'all already oh also uh the Dead Man Wonderland ran out of money.
SPEAKER_01That's what the fuck I that's what I that's what I was gonna assume because I remember having that conversation. That makes perfect sense. Yeah, yeah. They had a budget and they couldn't go over it.
SPEAKER_07Uh yeah, they got halfway through and they was like hoping they would uh get enough for like a season two. They didn't, and they was like, oh, we're not gonna make it. Uh we need to finish this, which is super unfortunate because like this just watching episode one where uh that all those kids in that classroom got exploded.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Um that that like the that set the scene for like something amazing and sucks. They couldn't like really live up to the to that setup. But yeah, um, you already we already touched on Psycho Pass multiple times, but yeah, that was on my list. Uh Promise Neverland, we touched on that. Amazing. Uh we didn't touch on Mate, Mate and Abyss. And yeah, it has like some of the like the most like you're welcome storytelling two times. List four.
SPEAKER_00I just spent the $700 on a damn statue of those characters. Oh shit. Cannot wait for that to come.
SPEAKER_07Like, and like and it's funny because a lot of the like I think I think horror anime like kind of has an issue like compared to like horror movies and like horror games, to where like like uh I think there's a little bit of disconnect with uh being scared from a cartoon like just a little bit. Cause like even because even even when you're playing a horror video game, you're automatically more connected to it. And then in a horror movie doesn't have to convince you that bad because you're watching real people like die and shit. But um, but like mate mate in the abyss, like it is drawn so fucking well. And and and and like and when like skin starts boiling and fucking poisonous pus like starts blowing down the people's veins, and like and or or and you start like seeing people transmigrify into like other things, and then and then like 80% of the cast of the show is children, and it's you know fucking phenomenal, uh yeah, it's amazing. A little problematic in a few other ways, but uh talk about that. Yeah, we're probably out with that.
SPEAKER_06The nigga doesn't do it any better.
SPEAKER_07Oh, they're worse. Actually, that's the the anime uh kudos to the uh anime people for cutting back on on the pedo ship. But um, oh yeah, also yeah, shout out to uh shout out to high school, high school the dead, uh like they touched on just like just the the the sheer amount of fan service.
SPEAKER_03So much fan service, ridiculous.
SPEAKER_07So much fan service, but like it was too high with zombies. But like, but at the same time, like have have you like worried about these damn zombies, about these niggas' lives like five seconds later, like the the the tonal shifts were like beautifully like handled in that show. And uh I really I really enjoyed it. Um also every everything about Satoshi Khan, like the the godfather of like animated psychological thrillers. He did uh he did paprika, he did uh Boogie Pap Boogie Pop Phantom, he did um Fuck, I lost it. Where are you? Why did I scroll? Uh he did uh Memories, which is an anthology film, and like uh each each one of those uh mini stories were like really well done. And also uh actually I'll come back to this last one because it's like one of my favorite movies. Um did somebody mention uh Japan Sinks? You yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Japan Sinks.
SPEAKER_04Sorry, Joe.
SPEAKER_07Uh actually actually from the same uh the same anime animator who did uh double man crybaby. And like that like that really like phonetic, organic uh like animation style, like really lends itself to like body horror and like people dying suddenly. Um what else we uh we touched on uh parasite uh vampire hunter D, like Vampire Hunter D Bloodless, like one of my favorite anime movies like ever. And um, and it's funny, it's not it's honestly not scary at all, but it draws the whole thing, it's like really gothic and and draws from a lot of uh like horror stuff, but but ultimately it comes down to like how fucked up people are and not the monsters. You know, like most things.
SPEAKER_09Um yeah, I was like like like most horror. It's usually like people are more fucked up than the actual thing that's there. Oh, like I said in Devil Man Crybaby, when they chased down old girl and killed her on the beach. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03That was not like how it ended. Wait, this thing about her head being parated on the damn stick.
SPEAKER_06Like I was like, when you like I I can't remember in the anime how well they did that, but I remember when I read in the mega, they literally had her in pieces. It was a piece of music, yeah. Like it was normal. It was it was it was one of the most random shits I would think about a whole entire life.
SPEAKER_03Like yeah, it was definitely girl. Um, you know, it was definitely girl for for sure. Um, you know, and I remember I read something about like people who watch who actively love girl, they might need like a psychic battle because they're saying I mean for real because some of the girl, it's different if you have like elements of girl, but if you're like constantly going to look at girl, this stuff is very fucked up. Like you'll see, I remember there was this um there was this thing you're like actually get off on it, is what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_06I was about to ask about it because I don't have a hint where it's like if you like that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, it's like girl porn, like girl headtime. That's what I'm talking about. Because there's a lot, I mean, it gets really fucked up. You know what I'm saying? And then, you know, what Cosmic was saying, that there's a kind of sometimes there can be a disconnect when it is anime versus um live action. Sometimes it's even worse because there are things that you can do that can be drawn and animated that it's very difficult to do as a creator person, unless you have an incredibly huge budget like you know, Ridley Scott from Prometheus and Aliens. So like you have little girls were split open and people are eating like the kid out of them. You know what I'm saying? Like that's some hardcore thing. I mean, it's interesting because like, you know, it's like, wow, you never think. But I mean, it's you know, so it's like it delves the the line of what is like core and then what is almost like is it even legal to watch? Like the idea of like what to watch this, and that's kind of like the ending of double man because it reminded me of a girl head tie. I was just looking at hedge one day, and I just like the other way in Google out the oh, what the fuck is that dog rabble?
SPEAKER_06What could it be?
SPEAKER_03And it's funny because it gave like the aesthetic of what Joe was saying that it's unpleasant, and then I'm seeing some fucked up, oh no, I think this is illegal, I think the government would have. You know what?
SPEAKER_00I'm grown as a person. I've grown as a person. Because middle school means more fucked up than I in that stuff.
SPEAKER_03I think a couple of garbage might, first of all. I think like girls, but yeah, but no, not to that point. Not to get off on it. That's a little too.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's a definite story. Real quick, I'm surprised nobody mentioned it, so I'm just gonna throw it out now that everybody's gone. I'm not gonna move.
SPEAKER_08I've been gonna bring it back in.
SPEAKER_00Um I would like to say uh happy sugar life.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I'm glad y'all haven't said this one last one, so I'm gonna wait until Kaize's done and I'll say it. I bet you're gonna say it though, but go ahead.
SPEAKER_07Uh I mean I got one maybe I was gonna go. I'm I'm almost done. But uh another really good one is uh inu Yashiki, and it's uh actually from the the mega of gangs, and uh inu Yashiki pretty much is uh pretty much like alien uh alien uh aliens come down and uh and they kind of like crash land like on this hill. And it's like uh and it's like this young dude and it's like old man, and they accidentally kill both of them. And then the aliens are like, oh shit, we weren't even supposed to be here. Uh quick. Throw these niggas back together. So they they pretty much make like uh androids out of both of them because they don't know how to fix people, and then they just like roll the fuck off. And then like, and so the It's like throwing around the hospital and leave.
SPEAKER_06It was kind of like that too. It was kind of just like that.
SPEAKER_07Like uh you have like this fascinating like juxtaposition because like the grandfather, he was like, you know, he's like a really like average guy, really down on himself. Like nobody in his family respected him. He was never like super great at anything, but suddenly he was, you know, he was like he he he came to realize he was like super strong and super like good at like things all of a sudden. And then and then eventually you start to catch up with this, uh, with this other dude and and you start to find out that the young guy was a sociopath. And and he is and and now that he like and at first he was just kind of like this closed in like otaku type kid. And and and and so and as he's discovering his power, he's he's like doing these like like this more and more like horrible things as he figures out what he can do. And like in the story, like just sets up this almost like shown in like collision course between this old man and and this like horrible, like this horrible young dude. And and it's funny because like the horror the horrible young dude, he gets used to his powers faster because he's like a nerd. So he's like literally like, oh, what's this dude? Let me try this out, let me test this out. Old man doesn't have a concept for any of this shit. So he's literally just accidenting into like all his powers. And uh, and it's like just graphic as fuck. Like, like there's this one particular scene where the the young dude just like walks the the the particular way he atrocifies this family. It was like so unsettling and just ooh, but yeah, Emily Shiki was like really good.
SPEAKER_03Also a really good uh example of like 3D image, like now Can you put that in the link so I could I could watch that for later?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, what's up, Mark?
SPEAKER_06Real quick, just you said that I'm surprised. Did you mean did you uh how'd you feel about the scene when he's walking down the street with the air gun?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah, this shit was wow.
SPEAKER_06Oh man, this shit was wild. I laughed my ass off.
SPEAKER_07Um but yeah, another another really good one is uh this this anime called uh I haven't watched it in a really long time, but it was an anime called Uh Shiki. And uh and it was pretty much about like this town that was like uh beset by like vampires. And like in the first half of the show, it's just like you know, people like disappearing, you know, the vampires like you know, doing like fucked up shit, being being creepy as fuck. And then like, and then you kind of hit like a half point in the show, and uh, and and you kind of get like the the the veil is kind of lifted on like a lot of the mystery and like and all the you know pretty much like the lives the vampires have had to lead and really how like fucked up like their lives have been. But but like in and all these deaths have like rattled the people of this town to the point where kind of like the like the people in the town kind of find out about the vampires at the same time like the the audience does. And so and the sort of people in the town are like like whipped up into this like murderous frenzy, and and the show like flips to where like the vampires are now like like you know, like they're not, they're not uh they're not hidden by the anonymity anymore. So now you're like, you know, like you learn, you like you learn about like this like little girl vampire which probably has like three or four bodies, but you like learn, you like you learn about like how fucked up her life's been, and now you're like, now she's being hunted, and you're like, oh fuck, I hope they don't find this little girl girl. And like, and like you know, you know, part part of the horror of that show is like you, you know, you wonder like if you were there, like if you survive, what would you would you become like one of these people who was like hunting down these like things? And like it's it's you know, it's it was really uh it was a really uh interesting uh anime and it and you know and it had and it had a horror of like multiple, like you know, multiple levels. Um and my favorite movie uh on the list and another Satoshi Khan thing was a uh it was a psychological thriller called Perfect Blue. And damn it!
SPEAKER_00Talk it.
SPEAKER_07Like, like perfect blue is like every time I watch it, it is like it is so like beautifully like shot. It works on like so many uh like levels. It's you know, it's just uh it's so good. But yeah, it pretty much like follows this uh this um this like you know, just like Japanese like pop star. And you know, and it's like and it's you know really about her like you know, like trying to get like used to this life and it's like and her trying to adapt to the you know the you know the the gaze and the expectations of uh of a of somebody who lives like that. And uh and it gets to the point where like she like as as she starts to like lose her like lose herself, like you know, her her grasp on you know reality like really starts to shift. And and as her grasp on reality starts to shift, your grasp on reality goes like right with it. You don't know like what's real, you don't know what's actually being experienced. There's like actual there's actual murders happening, but if you're not actually sure like who's committing them or if this person actually exists, it's it's it's it's so well done. Like everybody everybody needs to wash a perfect blue. Uh and I think it's amazing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Soul station, soul station.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, soul station is a good one too.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03I have two, Death Parade and Soul Eater.
SPEAKER_09Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh my god, so I have one uh one cartoon that I forgot about. Um it's good it used to come on ABC Family before it was Fox. Oh no, it used to come on ABC Family before when it was Fox Family. It's called uh Monster Farm. I don't know if anyone remembers Monster Farm, but it's like this white guy who basically lives on a farm, and all the animals there are these different like monster renditions. There's like zombie cows, and one of them is like um a dead, like like barrel, not not like dead barrel cow, but there's like a goat that's like super intelligent, there's like a Frankenstein pig thing, it's it's and like a dragon goat. It's really interesting, it was really interesting, it was really cute. Um, and another another horror movie that I was thinking about was Watership Down. And if y'all haven't heard of or listen, listen.
SPEAKER_06Listen, talk it.
SPEAKER_09If you have not heard of Watership Down, it is a story about rabbits, and I'll leave it there. The animation is it is a movie from the 80s, which should tell you that much more. Um it is a movie from 80s UK, so it's not even an American film, so that should tell you that much more about this film. There is and the uh 70s actually. Is it it was 70s?
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's even older than that. I was to make it my I read the books, which are great, by the way.
SPEAKER_09Yeah. Yeah, yeah. They tried to remake it. Netflix didn't go didn't that great thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. John Bojego was in there, but you know, it still wasn't that great.
SPEAKER_00But um he's meh.
SPEAKER_09No, it is uh it is a movie, it is basically a movie about you know rabbits who are trying To survive and living like one rabbit has this kind of like premonition about what is basically land development and all of their entire borough being killed, and there's blood everywhere. But then you see you go on with these rabbits as they traverse the land trying to find a new home. And the shit that they encounter is gnarly and it's ghastly. And the depiction of a lot of the issues that they deal with, not just having to find a new home, but the issues they encounter, the other rabbits they encounter, the other animals they encounter, just like the pure savagery of nature itself is depicted in full force in that film. And even some more um fucked up aspects that you may or may not think about, or you know, may not actually exist, were also really pronounced. And the animation is exquisite. Like I have never seen gore happen or be depicted in that way when it came to like animal fights. And I've seen a lot of it, but that is the most visceral looking animation I've ever seen when it came to like blood, gore, animals fighting, killing each other. And mind you, these are just rabbits. Like not even like wolves or bears and shit, just straight up rabbits. And it's one of the best films I've ever seen in my life. And we didn't really mention Coraline. Um Coraline was amazing. We didn't really mention the secret of Nim either. I don't know if anyone thinks it's horror. I think it's horror, because that movie was a lot. Um I think that's all I got off the top of my head. That we didn't mention.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think we did everything.
SPEAKER_09Also, watch perfect blue. Like everyone watched perfect blue. It's an amazing movie.
SPEAKER_03So I'm gonna have to Oh, we didn't talk about the Adams family, the cartoon.
SPEAKER_00It was a comedy. Oh, yeah, the Adams Family cartoon.
SPEAKER_03It was like a horror comedy, but I mean it's no more of a comedy than like Scooby-Doo per se.
SPEAKER_00But it was like Dead Space Downfall was good.
SPEAKER_03Dead Space was good. It was good. I was thinking about that, but yeah, it was good. So I think they adapted it after Dead Space 2. Is that what they yeah, it was pretty good.
SPEAKER_07Actually, there was a uh there was an anthology uh animation for Dante's Inferno if you haven't seen it. Yeah, I was gonna say that.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, but all the animation for Dante's Inferno was phenomenal. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Cool. Um, Dante's Inferno animated series. There was, I don't know if Ovation TV is still on. That was like the artsy channel. Um, but they had a Dante's Inferno, and it was like a um puppet version of it. It was a very interesting aesthetic as well. It was different from like the 2D or 3D. It was like a puppet show, um, but it was like a slash comedy. But it was very interesting. Like I they've done so many different renditions of Dante's Inferno. Um, same as I think they've done an uh Alice in Wonderland that was kind of like a fucked up version as well. Um, I can't remember the name though. But I could have sworn when I saw Alice in Wonderland, that was very dark as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but those who those those who are into Disney movies, the Black Cauldron. Oh, yes, the Black Cauldron.
SPEAKER_09Oh, and that's the Fantasia with Chernobyl.
SPEAKER_03Oh Fantasia 2000, that big, the big nigga, that demon looking. Oh yeah, sleeping beauty with Maleficent.
SPEAKER_01That's Anastasia.
SPEAKER_03Was it Fantasia? Fantasia, right?
SPEAKER_01Anastasia.
SPEAKER_03Oh, Anastasia, oh, with Ross Beauty.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, with um, yep.
SPEAKER_03That was actually good. That was really good. I love that. Um, uh what about the forest when um oh my gosh. Ferngully.
SPEAKER_07Ferngully. Oh god, fern gully. That's like environmental horror.
SPEAKER_04Exactly.
unknownFerngully.
SPEAKER_03I mean, we pull on gully. It wasn't that it was a horror per se, but it was very unsettling because it was basically it was like the environmentalist horror movie per se. Like any tree person, they would probably lose their shit off watching that because 100%. They went into, I think they're in the Amazon rainforest, like some rainforest, and then they were cutting trees down, and it was interesting because they made industrialization the bad guy. So you had yeah, this huge, you know, tree cutter and the black smoke. It was actually, it was a horror in a way. The black smoke was kind of oozing out, and even the at the mouth, it was dripping, it looked like it was just like a demon. It was the for for its time, it was very unsettling. So I would say frankly for sure.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I I I'd say not even for its time. And and I'd say that we need to re-show kids frankly. Yeah. Uh another another really uh good one in the same vein is like Ninja Scroll and the Karen is uh Wicked City, is this an anime from 87 and just oh this grade A is not just fucked up shit. Like vaginas eating people and just A light bulbs.
SPEAKER_03I mean, if there's a way to go, then you know I'll gotta Oh, Cool World as well. It was not horror, but that was another unsettling anime. Well, not anime, cartoon as well. These are not like I guess we're going in the verge of like unsettling slash.
SPEAKER_09But that's more of the thing, right? But when you look at horror, when you look at horror, a lot of things have these very um unsettling and more intense horror aspects to them. Like, you know, and outside of just when you know cartoons have a Halloween episode, even the last unicorn had these really like horrific, kind of, you know, um disturbing images that went along with it. So like a horror is one of those things that makes its way into a lot of different genres, even though it may not be, you know, the the core of the genre itself, but it people need horror elements in order to get through a lot of the storytelling that they typically use. I think that's the cool part about it. Um even some of the things we love, maybe more fantasy, but even a lot of anime finds itself in the realm of horror, especially when they, you know, go to the ramifications of the the fight, what happens after these fight scenes, or you know, what people go through when they get impaled, when they're gored, when they have to do like any aspect of violence, I think, in personal opinion, steps into the arena of horror. Because now you have to depict something quote unquote horrific or something, you know, unsettling or disturbing that makes it that much more poignant of a of a moment in an actual you know show or scene.
SPEAKER_03You know what? Yeah, who framed Roger Rabbit Creed to be out? It's not fucking friendliest movies that much out of because it played on your mind as a kid, like you you know, cartoons can't be killed. You see, you know, Roadrunner, you see the Tasmanian Devil, you see L, you know, the coyote, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse. Exactly. Like they can't be killed, and you see this. Well, obviously, so in this movie, like he had it was the paint thinner. No, he said it's called the dip. You want to go in the pain thinner. I was like, I don't want to go in the dip, mommy. Like they put you in acid and you die.
SPEAKER_01It was paint thinner, and they still died. There you go. No, no, they still died because it's paint thinner, it's like it removes markers and crayons and paint.
SPEAKER_03They weren't erased, they were bubbling.
SPEAKER_01Anybody ever played uh Mickey Mouse and the Power of Two, the the the Disney video game? Mickey Mouse had a uh ability where he would shoot paint to like color things in, but then he also had paint thinner, which will wipe cartoons away. And that's how he would defeat the bad guys who were who are animated. He would shoot paint thinner at them to wipe them out.
