Welcome back, listeners, to the Blurred Spectrum Podcast. This is the third and final episode of the 90s into the 2000s cartoon tournament. We have done and talked about a many things over the last two episodes, and I believe that a lot of people are either drained, upset, happy, excited, don't want to be on screen, or you know, a plethora of other things. But we're gonna finish this and we're gonna finish it out strong. Why? Because I'm changing all the rules because that's what I can do, moderator. Anywho, uh, so let me give you our panelists for today, starting with myself, Suchino Shogun. Uh, we have Ms. Skittles, we have the Black McCoy. What did you do? We have Kaze. Yo yo. We have Shampoo Braceless with a cat. Mello. We have Sayote. Hello. We have Joe Ts G. Or should we call you Jay Sephiroth? No? Oh, you don't like that? Yes? Maybe? No? Okay. Um, and then subbing out Lady Legacys to finish off this tournament strong are experts in the medical field, the doctor.
SPEAKER_11What's good?
SPEAKER_10So, panelists, I hope you are excited. I prefaced this in our last episode that things were going to change, and what you think may end this tournament may not actually end it. And if you're gonna be upset and storm off, I really don't care in this point in time because we're gonna give the people what they want. And the people want um drama, I guess. Um yeah, probably drama. Anywho, so like I said before, we have we have eight shows left. Now, the first rule that I'm going to implement in this final four-way bracket is each and every one of you, of course, you know, shampoo bracelets count as one uh one uh vote, but each and every one of you gets a veto. And the veto in this particular round is going to be you can take any show that was previously in this bracket in this entire tournament and sub out one of the ones in the match that is coming up, any single one. And you can ask me if just to make sure what show it was, but you can sub out anything that's already been previously eliminated and sub it in for a show that is currently left in the last eight because we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight people left, which is why we can do it. Ready? That's the first rule. I wish I would have gotten a little bit more. I'll say it one more time. Every single person has one veto. This veto allows them to sub in one of the previously eliminated shows for any of the final remaining eight shows that are still left in the tournament. So I will go through each of the matchups, and at the beginning, kind of like saying Uno, but instead of at the end, you'll actually, yeah, no, no, we'll say Uno, before that particular show wins, you can veto out the show that you want to win. It's the first person that says it.
SPEAKER_09I'm confused. Confused.
SPEAKER_10So I'll give you an example. Let's say the two shows are Animaniacs and SWAT cats, right? And let's say the entire group has said that they want Animaniacs to win. Before I say Animaniacs goes on, you can say veto and switch out any previously eliminated show for Animaniacs. Nobody gets the vote, it gets switched in, and it moves on to the next round.
SPEAKER_05Wait a minute.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_05There's evil afoot.
SPEAKER_10Yes, quiet. I see disdain in people's faces, I see anger in people's faces, I see confusion in people's faces, and I love it.
SPEAKER_03So we can do this for one for each of the eight matchups, right? Yeah. So how many how many videos do we get?
SPEAKER_10Everybody gets one.
SPEAKER_06Hold on, hold on, hold on.
SPEAKER_03The doctor, what'd you say? Yeah, so at that point, how would we vote at all? Because all the votes can be completely vetoed.
SPEAKER_10It could be. But the thing is, if everybody's okay with the that matchup and whoever wins and it goes on, then it doesn't get vetoed.
SPEAKER_02So be careful. So we gotta be careful because we only have one veto, so we can't be vetoing other vetoes if we want to keep our and that's just for this round, right?
SPEAKER_05Because then it can't extract.
SPEAKER_02I think it's for the whole, I think it's for everything.
SPEAKER_10Nope, just this round.
SPEAKER_05No, just this round.
SPEAKER_02So we get multiple vetoes, we just gotta choose when we want to veto.
SPEAKER_10Nope, you only get vetoes in this round.
SPEAKER_09So can we get a list of the the shows that were X'out last time?
SPEAKER_11I can get the smallest but we started with 60-something shows. Yep. You can read these.
SPEAKER_08This is wild to me. Thank you.
SPEAKER_11It's it's it's something.
SPEAKER_10I don't like doing things ahead of time. I like doing things in the moment, right? Because everybody likes to go with the flow.
SPEAKER_06All right.
SPEAKER_10So our first matchup is Gargoyles versus the X-Men. That is a rough one.
SPEAKER_09As normal. Which X-Men?
SPEAKER_02No, because like when we first like that's how this whole thing started. Like it was Gargoyle versus X-Men Evolution. Right. And now it's Gargoyle versus X-Men.
SPEAKER_10This is an X-Men Evolution. This is standard X-Men.
SPEAKER_03So just the animated series.
SPEAKER_10Yes. Yep. Okay. So your vote?
SPEAKER_09X-Men.
SPEAKER_10X-Men one. Uh the Doctor. Uh X-Men. Oh, two for X-Men. Uh, Ms. Skittles.
SPEAKER_08X-Men.
SPEAKER_10Ooh, three for X-Men. Uh, Kaze. X-Men. Ooh, four for X-Men. Wait, isn't that it? Four, four, seven, yes, four. Ah, so X-Men wins. Moving on. Next matchup. Kablam versus Batman the Animated Series. You put it there. I don't even know why you're talking. You put it there. But anyway. But you put Kablam at the end of this tournament. That's why it's here. That's true. It is 100% your fault. Because it was going to be Teen Titans versus Batman the Animated Series. But you know, like I said, you put it there.
SPEAKER_11Oh, I mean, Teen Titans lost earlier.
SPEAKER_10It lost a Kablam in the first round.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Assuming Teen Titans would have been here.
SPEAKER_10Looking at his competitors, it might have, but you're right. Okay, so Kablam versus Batman. We'll start with uh oh again, Sayone.
SPEAKER_09Batman.
SPEAKER_10Batman one. Shampoo bracelets. Batman two. Oh, she ain't gonna mess it up this time.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, we don't want no Discord in the household.
SPEAKER_10Uh the Black McCoy. Kablam. Kablam one. Uh Miss Skittles.
SPEAKER_08Batman.
SPEAKER_10Batman three. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh also betrayers.
SPEAKER_11Batman betrayers. So you're gonna lie and act like you don't know everybody here.
SPEAKER_02I'm saying Batman wins. I'm not saying I don't know everyone here. I'm just saying I'm disappointed because I expect it better.
SPEAKER_11Oh, mm. Wow. Okay. Guess you don't know us like I thought you did.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_02I do, but I would still expect it better.
SPEAKER_10All right. Uh Batman moves on. Next. Avatar the last airbender. Did we really take this out? No.
SPEAKER_06What?
SPEAKER_11Absolutely not.
SPEAKER_10That was the losing argument. That was the losing argument.
SPEAKER_05Wait, wait, what was it? I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_10Avatar the last airbender versus Daria. MTV's Daria, if that helps.
SPEAKER_06Ooh, damn.
SPEAKER_10Give you a couple seconds to deliberate. Oh, looks like Joe T S G has already selected. Uh Sayone. Daria. Ooh, two for Daria. Uh, let's go with the doctor.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna go with Daria.
SPEAKER_10Ooh, three for Daria. Daria. Oh, and Daria takes it for one.
SPEAKER_02Well, that was an unexpected twist, and I'm sure the listeners are gonna be heated.
SPEAKER_10Heated. Instagram's from time.
SPEAKER_06Well, I was you said you wasn't about to vote for Daria? No.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_06All right. Daria's the automatic.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_02We was like, that bitch was on one, but Aang was a little bit too happy.
SPEAKER_10Next bracket. Courage the cowardly dog versus kids next door. Yeah. We'll start with uh well say One always got her answer. Say One. Courage. Ooh, courage one. I know why you can uh Kaze. Uh Kids Next door. Ooh, one and one. Ms. Skittles. Courage. Ooh, two and one. Uh no T S G.
SPEAKER_07Courage.
SPEAKER_10Courage. Wait, was that three? Yes, three. The black McCoy. Next door. It's next door. Three and two. Who the fuck made that noise? Wait a minute. What happened? What happened? I missed something. Okay. The doctor. Courage. Woo! Courage for two.
unknownCourage.
SPEAKER_10Happiness. All right. Courage moves on.
SPEAKER_08That's a tough one.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't. I mean it was, but it wasn't.
SPEAKER_08I love both. I'm glad I didn't have to vote, but uh, I love both.
SPEAKER_03You know, it's definitely those were closer, I think, than some of the others.
SPEAKER_09Exactly. Wasn't that close because it won. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_02I guess that was her say on a safety nae of the day.
SPEAKER_10It was. I'm sure there'll be another one. All right.
SPEAKER_02We're just getting started, y'all.
SPEAKER_10We are officially into the semifinals. We have four shows left. We now have our second rule that is going to be implemented. The first one.
SPEAKER_08Damn, I should have used my pito.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, nobody should.
SPEAKER_08I just thought about it. I was gonna do it, but since y'all voted for Daria, I I kept it in my back pocket. So I should have used it for fucking Daria.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, you should have.
SPEAKER_08Oh.
SPEAKER_10Yep. So we're in the final four semifinals. Now we have our second rule to be implemented. The first vetoes are completely out. This second rule is now. So you're going to have the opportunity to uh kind of stress a little bit what these shows mean to you. So it's going to be called not necessarily the sway, but uh the kind of democratic vote. So we're going to take two individuals that specifically represent these individuals.
SPEAKER_02Huh? What? We should call it houseway.
SPEAKER_10Sure. Houseway. So we're going to pick two individuals who are going to represent these individual cartoons, and then they're going to allow or they're going to show you why this show should win. So, who would like to represent X Men? No, hold up.
SPEAKER_02Can we wait? Can we pay for that?
SPEAKER_10Who wants to represent Batman the animated series? So now nobody raised their hands. In this particular round, I want you to specifically explain to your uh fellow panelists exactly why they should vote for your individual cartoon. Starting with Sayone and Batman the Animated Series.
SPEAKER_09Okay. Batman the Animated Series is and always will be a classic when it comes to the era. You never know what you're gonna get. You have this gothic noir, the aesthetic was classic. You have Harley Quinn that wasn't even in the comics, but it was so popular they had to put her ass in the comics. You have Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, who are just wonderful femme duo that just kick ass and you know, just have this wonderful, beautiful, sadistic nature that people just can't help but gravitate to. And Batman, he's just uh a collection of ridiculous emotions, brooding but strong, but brooding but strong again. And it's like you just can't help but just connect with his anchor, but then the conservation that you want, you know, not that, you know, yes. So anyway, Batman is just a classic hero, doesn't have any superpowers, doesn't need them. He is a billionaire, and you know, yes, his empire was given to him, but he did something with it. He fights crime and in the name of justice without having to. And that is very true.
SPEAKER_10That's true of most of these shows. Most of these shows.
SPEAKER_09And also, he is probably one of the most, I would say, besides Superman, one of the most profitable heroes of the DC comic, you know, franchise. And also the horrible movies that came from DC comics was also iconic. You had so you had George Clooney, you had so many other people.
SPEAKER_10You had that's the only one George Clooney.
SPEAKER_09Evan. Evan Clone. Um Michael Keaton, who was the best Batman. You know, you had Michelle Pfeiffer, who was sexy and made Black Lady sex look so damn good anyway.
SPEAKER_04Iconic. Iconic.
SPEAKER_09Iconic, the sixing of black. If I could wear it every day, I would. So, you know, Batman, it has cross times of cartoon and live action and costume, and also cosplay, different types of cosplay of all different people coming together. So that's why I say Batman.
SPEAKER_02All 5,266,346 different cosplays of Batman that we have seen over the past how many years?
SPEAKER_06And we just got one box, right? Oh, yeah. We have Earth and too. Who's the other Earth?
SPEAKER_10Now we will have The Doctor and X-Men.
SPEAKER_03Yes. So, and I'm gonna be focused on X X-Men the Animated Series, right? Yes, yep. So I consider that the pinnacle of comic book cartoons by far by a huge margin. You know, even in addition to it being this thing that so many of us grew up with and that we loved as a Saturday morning cartoon, the way they portrayed so many of the characters. We think of like the originals of Rogue, you know, this Southern Bell who's really interesting and sassy and you know, has this wonderful personality. So was still powerful and strong and confident, but still had vulnerabilities around her claustrophobia and whatnot. Like X-Men Animated series did such a good job of taking comic book characters and introducing them to us in a way that was really multi-dimensional. It was fascinating, and it set the stage for so many things with these characters going forward. Like, how many of us have played an X-Men game or love an X-Men game? You know, how many of us love like Marvels Capcom? That was really the precursor for so many of these things. And when I think back to you know, all the different iterations of these characters across different movies, across, you know, other series as well, like Evolution. I really think that the original, you know, 90s animated series was the one that really did the best job of taking these characters and making us love them. You know, I don't think I've loved any of those characters as much as I did in the original animated series. And I think that's true for a lot of us. So I know that's concise, but you know, I think it just really sums up full stop why I think that's not only are those characters amazing, but that series in particular is the perfect pinnacle of how you create and how you you know get people to connect with comic book characters.
SPEAKER_09Beautiful TED Talk. I love it.
SPEAKER_08Not only those them voiceovers that they be doing on YouTube be fucking up.
SPEAKER_02I need the doctor's video essays like yesterday.
SPEAKER_10All right, so we have had our representatives explain and present why you should vote for their individual candidates. So now it is your turn, ladies and gentlemen and individual, to vote for your favorite show, X-Men or Batman the Animated Series. What I'll allow you to do is privately send me a message in the chat directly to me, not to everyone, of who you vote for. Alright. Has everybody voted? Okay. So now we're going to move over to the next side without announcing who has won that particular bracket. We have Daria versus Oh no, this is wait. No, why would I tell you?
SPEAKER_08Wow.
SPEAKER_01The tops are over there.
SPEAKER_08Oh, that's what I mean.
SPEAKER_10Daria versus Courage the Cowards.
SPEAKER_08Damn, I should have done Courage the Cow Jobs.
SPEAKER_10Who is going to defend Daria? I'll do it. Ah, the Black McCoy. And who is going to defend Courage the Cowardly Dog?
SPEAKER_09Wait, can we can we You would like to do it twice?
SPEAKER_10I mean, if nobody else wants to do it.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I'll do it.
SPEAKER_10Okay. Miss Sionay will do Courage the Cowardly Dog.
SPEAKER_09Oh my god, don't you do it first?
SPEAKER_10Okay, I'll let you go second. No problem. She's been going first this whole episode. But she's been choosing to go first.
SPEAKER_09Right.
SPEAKER_10Wait, do you want to go first before the black record?
SPEAKER_09No, I want him to go. I want him to oh excuse me. I want them to do their speech their thesis first.
SPEAKER_02So are you sure? It's gonna be long. We're gonna be here for a while.
SPEAKER_09I know that's why I'm gonna overview it.
SPEAKER_10It will give you about five or ten minutes to put it in.
SPEAKER_09Let me get my notepad and my pen because I'm ready to learn.
SPEAKER_10No problem. The Black McCoy. Your thesis on Daria.
SPEAKER_02So Daria was one of those shows that was extremely subversive and very poignant for the time that it came out. The network that it came on, it sh it aimed towards the audience it was trying to go for. It definitely added a layer of nuance to the more picturesque and glamorized ideations of adolescents that we have come to know and love as far as American media. And Daria was a character that went out of her way to show how ludicrous all of that was. In the same way the Adams family was supposed to be representative of the opposition to typical um uh apple pie American values, Daria was the antithesis to teenage, um, I don't ooh, ooh, um, I don't want to say ooh, what's the word I would use? Teenage pop culture, I'll say teenage pop culture. And the the very crass, um sarcastic, and yet very poignant poignant humor that she had was far, far beyond the the scope of anything that I think courage could have done for the audience that it was aiming for. I think Daria tackled issues that Courage didn't have the the bandwidth to tackle, partly because of the network that they were on, which is no fault to them or the show, but just, you know, just a function of the time and the place and you know the the limitations of the creators and where they were. But Daria was able to be so um prophetic in the way in which many of us developed and the way in which we saw the world and the way in which we recognized a lot of the different issues that we saw societally and how we and helped us and influenced us and how we managed them as well as how we approached ourselves in the same way. So I think that Daria helped establish a stronger interpersonal and intrapersonal way for us to truly understand ourselves the world and our relationship to it.
SPEAKER_09I'd wipe away a tear I'm sorry Sione encourage the cowardly dog yes as a rebuttal to the black McCoy I feel like we all as adults have grown to be Daria for sure angsty and brooding and just mad at the world and you know just you know just want to live our lives and be joyful but we're not but then again as children who live for the dark who want to watch cartoons that are teetering is it something I should watch but then your parents can't tell you to turn it off because it is a kid's show and it says nothing gory about it. You have courage the cowardly dog that for me was the quintessential Adams family of cartoons without having the Morticia or Gomez it was dark and kooky but oddly sadistic in a very strange childish way that we clung to the colors all the artists that I know the cosplayers that I know the people who just appreciate art you can tell of the palette choices the dark and the gritty even the illustration was odd, peculiar unusual twisted but you couldn't help but take your eyes and just zoom in on it. You were fixated on Muriel this beautiful wholesome and sweet grain that we all want to bake our cookies for us have this asshole of a husband Houston and then we could see ourselves with courage. We want to help Muriel and save her from these horrible dentist people coming and you know you have asylums trying to lock you up and it just it's like you're in a sick twisted house of Wonderland but you can see yourself through this dog. And it's wonderful it's different it's iconic nothing ever came to TV like Kirchhood. I think everybody in our generation can appreciate it and it had it made you feel hopeless helpless but excited at the same time and for children like me who are kind of twisted and had a very odd imagination I dug it and I feel like a lot of nerds blurred connected with courage the cowly dog.
SPEAKER_10So it is always iconic our defendants have given you their ah I don't know how to huh cases was going to use you kind of poured out your souls onto the mic. So we are going to allow our panelists to vote for whether they would like to side with Daria or courage the cowardly dog begin all right so now that nobody knows who has won or lost what I'm going to do is allow Kaze and Joe Tsg to pick from a list of 10 shows that have already been eliminated. Oh no are you ready what's all these twists I'm going to tell you the list this shit the most wildest shit I'm gonna tell you the list you ready with people all right Adventure Time Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Doug Teen Titans Johnny Bravo Arthur Spider-Man Ed Ed and Eddie Spawn Pirates of Dark Water I want each of you wheelchairs one of these shows and send it to me privately gonna pick either Teen Titans or Spawn Titans would you like me to go over the list again okay nope no you know it's okay right they was quick with it I was like uh okay okay that's fine all right so I think in the finals is now a six uh sorry four way battle royale elimination match between X-Men Teen Titans Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and encourage the cowardly ghost you know you know who did I need a veto I need a veto's already gone you can't veto nothing else that's it's a wrap wait what was the last one you said what was you said teen titans X-Men um attack of the killer tomatoes and Daria sorry Daria wait a second what happened to courage daria be courage what the fuck yep I miscounted one my apologies everyone that's loud to me I thought I had friends I love you voted for courage thank you boom it wasn't my choice this time I love how she always jumps to that when she might lose friends that buck darling in the words of the shadow man darling you got friends on the other side too boy all right so we have our final four how are we going to decide who wins by a hands up vote just classic how you want to do it you might as well just kick out classic keep it classic but there's four teams well just hands up vote hands up vote between the four yes that how we want to do it I mean that's a comment vote but yeah you know fight it out you want to fight it out I mean we can see everybody can throw hands and whoever wins you know they get to pick a show we got some people skills doing this always be the little ones we count on you too three of y'all we can put you all right final four teen titans attack of the killer tomatoes Daria and X-Men so seems like everybody wants to do a show of hands so I guess we'll do a show of hands is everybody comfortable with that yes I don't know I am we got three people who are uncomfortable with it so what should we do instead three people I don't know play heads up seven up if we're just raising hands oh my god all right so so pretty much you want us to close our eyes and vote okay you know what you could do why don't you split so we could do hands up between two and then hands up between the other two and then they can go head ahead or what we could do is everyone so we like state the five everyone state the five best things about the show they want to pick and then from we go from there. I don't want to fight no more for the drama and the act and the action okay we didn't come here for the show and fight scenes we came here for the show and fight scenes and to be fair two to two people well a person did that for the say they vote everyone else voted quietly but uh not not not that I want not that I want to do anything extra personally uh but but I do I do feel like it's gonna be we're gonna be end up doing tiebreakers anyway so you might as well have it why don't we fight it out for the last two yeah for the last two oh yeah we didn't discuss those okay okay how how we get into a last how we get into the last two that were named split it up yeah split it up and then they the last two go like head and head yeah yeah so let's vote hand vote on the ones we have now then discuss the last two once we vote okay meeting halfway yeah I'm not gonna decide what's two are going against each other oh my god just just put it in a generator and just pick it anyway give me 13 seconds all right I'm done so the first two are Teen Titans versus don't do it a okay thank you okay that makes you yeah I'm okay with that who is gonna get the freebie X-Men versus Attack of the Killer Tomatoes okay all right that alright the at least wait so what are we doing are we voting what are we doing yeah team titans versus Daria show of hands teen titans and daria the doctor know team titans wins the doctor knows what's up we know where the we know where the true integrity lies attack of the killer tomatoes versus X-Men show of hands attack of the killer tomatoes I see one hand go up he did right there I mean that's more of a finger than a hand of two hands two fingers okay that's the same hand that put it in the pot it'll be uh uh I'm sorry uh X-Men uh uh Kaza you're not voting uh you're not voting oh you know when I voted moving on all right so we are in the finals the last two remaining shows are X-Men versus Teen Titans oh look somebody somebody fixed your mistake uh shampoo brazen I'm just saying that complain thing was shouldn't happen I I'm a firm believer in that moderator you have to be unbiased so I'm extremely unbiased that's a balance shouldn't happen as the random matching shouldn't happen oh my god the random matching shouldn't have happened anywho so accountability now we're gonna duke it out we're gonna fight it out between Teen Titans and X-Men both of these are um iconic shows for their time period uh as uh the doctor said before X-Men uh changed the way that we look at certain cartoons it set the stage for Comic 2 cartoon shows along with their partners Spider-Man and the other uh types of shows but Teen Titans came out in the next following generation or decade if you really want to go there and it led to the stage for DC cartoons although you know shows like Batman the animated series and Superman were there before it Teen Titans changed the way that we looked at a lot of these these characters specifically because it didn't it was the first uh showing of its kind that didn't have any of those uh heroes from before it didn't have a Batman plug although they went to the Batcave it didn't have anything about Wonder Woman or Superman all these Titans all these heroes stood on their own as teams so how are we gonna do good out how are we gonna decide well this is what we're going to do I'm going to split us down the middle that's weird I shouldn't have said it that way. Anyway I'm going to split us into two second teams team titans and X-Men so starting with Team Team Titans Joe Ts G Shammy B Ms Skittles and the Black McCoy Team X-Men Sayone the Doctor Kaze and Damo That's not fair they got storm speeches an apocalypse we ready well they got trigon come on trigons can be talking they got memes for days they have the literal staple cost are you gonna fight for your side or are you gonna fight for their side I'll fight for whatever the fuck I need to fight for I'm just saying there is a symmetry there is an unbalanced scale here there is injustice among us so pick your weapon words fists or memes what that works so what I'm going to do is allow each team to give their winning arguments explain why your team has just won the tournament in your winning speech we will then discern I will determine which of these two teams wins oh you you'll determine it please mean Just like literally I hate you both please me all right hate you both men give me your best dissertation make me laugh now I'm joking go ahead give it to me I hope the doctor can go first he doesn't start so I just have to pick one general argument I think really sums up why I would choose X-Men over any cartoon I've heard today or and probably any of them in the entire original bracket.
SPEAKER_03X-Men over the series hit so many different areas of our culture and really impacted so many different dimensions of our experience as blurs not just you know comic books but like I said it really introduced us to that comic to cartoon transition. It set the stage for really the entire genre of video games like these crossovers you know between like video game entities and comic entities X Men the animated series was the catalyst for that. It's why we have a Marvel vs Capcom honestly it's why we have even Justice to be honest set the stage for that you know it produced some of the most amazing characters like to this day like I I just love those characters and the way they're portrayed in that series so much. And as much as I do love Teen Titans I don't think Teen Titans had anywhere near the same breadth of impact on our pop culture. You know and that's again like it's a series I love but it just didn't hit nearly as far reaching as X-Men did.
SPEAKER_11And that's why for me like the two are worlds apart you know on X-Men Animated series all the way yeah and uh and X-Men not only uh oh Kazai um what was I gonna say uh oh yeah and X-Men was also uh amazing cuz it it hits such a breadth of stories like straight straight from the comics like like like third like 30 years of X-Men they they stuffed so much into five six uh seasons of that show that like so many like rememorable indelible characters like you know like we went to Krakoa we we went to Asteroid Mind I say we we we had the whole dark uh Phoenix saga we had you know we we uh we introduced like you know like you know just space space as a concept in the Marvel universe about to say like you know they follow you know they follow what the brotherhood was doing they touched on the purified like every like every like age of the X-Men was was like was shown and like reproduced in that show and and definitely has like some of the you know best character uh best best characters uh we've been introduced to in in more or less any fiction but uh as far as like comic book uh fiction specific yeah X-Men was just so diverse you had the Queen D Storm herself and then um you had different ethnicities you had different love stories and also for me I'm usually a DC comic person but X-Men made me like Marvel because I'm generally not a Marvel person.
SPEAKER_09You have X-Men that that had different adult content but didn't make it too adult that children couldn't grasp onto it. And also there are so many different characters let's say if um a child or an adult didn't like Cyclops you had Storm you had Death Strike you had so many different characters that you could choose from you had these beautiful design characters you had different outfits you know sometimes when you are watching TV shows or cartoons you're like why donate your clothes and you are given different outfits different powers Omega level you have the Phoenix you have um you have Gambit you know who has a swagger you have so many different characters that you know as a vast people can just connect with sometimes when you have a certain cartoon or show you're only given four characters that you can connect with with X-Men you have a whole entire world of different types of villains or heroes that you can just latch on to and really see yourself in. So with me I mean one of my favorite characters was Jubilee and she wasn't even an omega level character but as a child you know when you had someone who loved Wolverine I love the the girl that can shoot you know fireworks out of her hands. That was amazing to me and you know for me it would just connect it with me something I've watched and that was I would say in elementary school hands down one of my favorite Marvel comics of all times and it definitely it ages well you can you know majority of the panelists are in their 30s or up and we've we've known X-Men since we were five, six. So it ages very very well and it's not gonna stop aging anytime soon. Our the future generation knows X-Men and it's just going to continue to evolve into a wonderful world that is already created.
SPEAKER_08Not to mention you can still watch X-Men now that it's up on uh Disney Plus so if you want to relive those moments and get all the feels going again you can do so by watching it on Disney Plus that advertising yes definitely and if Disney feels so inclined you know I feel the Disney money like anything that you all want
SPEAKER_02Throw our way out.
SPEAKER_10All right. Team 5. Who are we starting with? Shammy B or the Black McCoy?
SPEAKER_06You look at the two.
SPEAKER_02I'll let you start and I'll play a support role.
SPEAKER_00To be honest, it actually kind of makes this diff this argument's kind of difficult for me for the sheer fact of uh You want me to go to the screen? This is me starting it. Um like I said, the reason why is because I actually I have to give some credit to X-Men because a lot of how Teen Titans goes follows in the same vein. The only difference is that the art style is more interesting. The characters, since there's not as many, we're able to focus a little bit more on just the main characters of Starfire, Robin, Beast Boy, um, Cyborg, and Raven. Especially when we get to the part about Raven's story, but I'll I'll use that later on in the conversation. A lot of Teen Titans is the superhero version of a high school special. Uh as you're looking at how like certain relationships work out, the friendship between cyborg and Raven, I mean Cyborg and uh Robin and how that was tested at one point where cyborg was wondering if he could do it on his own, or if he could just go out and discover himself. And a lot of that discovery was also made when you know they made it so he could actually somewhat become human and or look human. And when he went to the Academy of uh I can't remember the Academy of the Hive, and you know, learn more about his powers and who he is. He just he was able to become a different person. And then they had this Romeo Juliet thing going off between him and Miss Fortune, which was actually really interesting to watch. Um, they introduced more and more characters of the season with all that got towards its end, where they started, you know, introducing Bumblebee, who was the first time I really saw a black female superhero outside of Storm. You know what I'm saying? And Storm was just touted as that chick. And this is also the reason why I like Bumblebee, because I felt like me and Bumblebee might have been from the same area. I didn't feel like we were store. She was also the leader of the ID Titan. Yep.
SPEAKER_08She was also the leader of Titan.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. So it's like that's what I was like, that was that was something like Teen Titans had some things that they did long before X-Men even got some point. Like, we never saw Storm in charge of X-Men until later on. Like Teen Titans was like, nah, we can get that. We could we can take that lane. Um, the fact that it also took place in a school, so it actually makes you feel more at home as you when you're at that age and you're growing up, discovering more and more about yourself, and you watch these superheroes go through it. You know, superheroes are put on such a pedestal that you actually become comfortable with the fact that, you know what, if they're doing it, then it's it's all right for me as a teen, as a regular ass teen. It's all right for me to be going through these same struggles in my life, especially when, like, say, Raven. Um, and the reason why I share a lot with Raven is because, and for those who don't mean, stories are not on that level, but yeah, stories are stories are quite similar. And as I watched her discover her past and, you know, meet her parents for the first time, find out who her father is, and he's not the best of people by any means whatsoever, or discover that, you know, things the things that she didn't know about her mother and how how nice of her she was, but the trouble that she was going through as well, the turmoil that internally led to her own issues, that was just a fun story to watch and get close with. Um also the story of Robin as he goes through his trials and terminulations with uh I want to say that was death struggle. And as he's the evidence. I mean, yeah, same, yeah, same thing. But um, but it was just it was you know discovering that story as he as he you see the similarities between him and Slade, but really you see the similarities between Slade and Batman. So it's almost like you're watching Robin go through this his own little child of tribulations with his father and daddy issues, so to speak, as he uh tries to discover, as he sees himself blossoming under slaves tutelage, but also sees that he's getting pulled into a darkness that he doesn't necessarily even want a part of, which is the same parallel that you get with Batman. Only difference is slave kills people straight up. But um, money's about to say money, you know, slave money ain't his wrong, but he got his own. So, you know, so it's just it's it was it was watching these stories and making and becoming more and more connected with these characters as they go through their learning lessons and finding their friends and then spreading their group out amongst many a different type and you know ethnicity of superhero as they open up to the rest of the world. And then, you know, the wonderful last episode, but they actually closed out that closed out very well on that chapter. Uh I honestly fell in love with Teen Titans more for that, more for its art, more for the fact that it wasn't, it wasn't as serious as X-Men. It was easier for people to digest, it was easier for people to love. Because with X-Men, you had to reach a certain age to even really understand it. Which it was a lot of the cartoons, that was a downfall of a lot of the cartoons back then. The reason why people hold on to X-Men so much is because X-Men wasn't for them when they were younger, they just didn't know it. So they didn't know until they reached their mid-20s or their mid to late 20s. They're like, yo, X-Men was the shit. They were talking about this, they were talking about that. But Teen Titans, you were able to follow. You were able to keep up with it, you were able to digest it at that age, and then even look deeper into it as you got older, which is the beauty of Teen Titan, is the mysteries that are there, but not, and then the things that you could unfold as you grow older.
SPEAKER_08So I I'm this is kind of like just my little two cent, like, because I know like the Marvel of course I'm a Marvel head, and the Marvel universe is uh is ridiculous as far as as far as the amount of characters, but um Teen Titans definitely have um uh a slew of characters as well. Um there, I mean again, we we got you know the original Titans, and then we have like the Titans East, North, West, South. We had all of those, um all of those characters as well. We had a ridiculous amount of villains um throughout the show, but then also like one-time villains like Red Raven and like um uh I I forgot where I was going, but yeah, but yes. So um so yeah, I I don't I don't think um Teen Titans was short on characters as far as you know as far as we always seeing the the main characters, the main titans, um but there was definitely uh a good amount of characters um and then honorary titans like Tara and and Jinx and things like that. So while the model universe is very extensive, Teen Titans had a run like a run of choices that you know you could connect with. Um and of course, all people that you could somehow relate to um outside of the Titans. And not and and and already mentioned the artwork. The artwork um definitely gave me it it wasn't as uh you know black noir as uh as uh Batman was, but um the animation style was was that similar to Batman um the animated series, only colorful. So there's that. It was very clean, very clean.
SPEAKER_02And just to to add a little bit more, because Shammy B covered pretty much everything that I was already thinking. Um, but one of the things I think the the the primary strength of Teen Titans was the fact that it was made for an age group that could follow it. And I think that as much as we love X-Men and as much as we adore all the content that has spawned from that original animated series that was pretty revolutionary for what it means for us to even have shows like Avatar Less Airbender and Teen Titans, I think it was Teen Titans that really helped set the stage for what it meant for a show to grow or follow or age with its actual fan base. And like if it wasn't for that kind of precedent, then we wouldn't have had the shows like Avatar Less Airbender who were able to really develop characters that were closely tied to the closely tied to the audience that they were reaching out to. And I think that it also follows something that we all know and love, uh a trope in anime that we've all seen for the the longest time. And it has been the imperative that children are the or children or you know young adults are the ones to take up the mantle to lead each other and the rest of the world into the next phase and the next generation of what our society needs to be. X-Men had this project of being this kind of magnum opus for this larger conversation around, you know, social injustices. And I don't think that takes any, I think that adds so much to it, but I think when it comes to Teen Titans, they were able to be more relatable. They were able to tackle those same kinds of issues while simultaneously using the characters that they had to get to the the root of some of the nuances of what it meant to be like some of those characters in that time. Like everyone remember a lot of I well, I'll I say a lot I think a lot of people remember that episode where Raven was cooped up in her room with this book who she could talk to, and it turned out to be like one of the most toxic things ever because it was someone who was using her and how she and it re and it reminded her that although she enjoyed her solitude and preferred it, that it's important to be able to connect with other people as well. Um, we remember when Beast Boy actually had to confront his past and ended up meeting up with Brain again, and that turned into this larger issue or larger kind of like villain that ended up expanding the Teen Titans beyond just the five that we came to know and love. We got a chance to see Starfire and her like tumultuous relationship with her sister and her family, and where she grew up and why she ran away, and what it meant for her to develop herself as an alien on a on a foreign planet and develop her own identity amongst a group of people and uh a planet that she didn't fully understand but has come to know and love while simultaneously trying to establish a much stronger relationship with the place that she ran away from. Um, we got to see Robin deal with change, we got to see Starfire duel change, we got to see Cyborg deal with the various identity issues, not only when he got a chance to actually um have a relationship with Jinx and when he went undercover at the hive, but when he got a chance to interact with uh Bumblebee. I think that was one of the first times I saw a real I saw an interaction between two adolescent animated black characters in that way that was fulfilling and really pushed the narrative forward for us in a way that I don't think we really acknowledged that we truly needed at the time. And Bumblebee's like she was just one of the baddest bitches I'd ever seen in my life, like from start to finish. Even in young, even in young justice, the bitch was still bad. Like that didn't change. I remember she went inside her child and fixed the fixed whatever problems were going on. But anyway, that's um that's neither here. But uh to kind of wrap it back, like Teen Titans had the the cognizance to be hyper-aware of who was watching. And I think that's what made it such a large cultural staple for a generation. X-Men's cultural staple is because it's a Marvel property, it's X-Men, it has always represented something that has been longstanding. But I think that Shammy B was right that at the end of the day, the the impact that it made for a lot of people, or for a lot of the people that have loved it, and specifically, I'll say specifically in our generation and generations that follow, is entirely retroactive because it wasn't made for us at the time. The language, the the topics, the issues that were tackled were largely adults. They were they they like at what point do we really have to do, did we really have to confront some of the things that they had to confront at the ages that we were? I'm not saying that didn't happen, I'm saying that how f how frequent or how how cognizant were we of it at the time? But when we look at the things that the differ that the Titans were going through, even when it came to Beast Boy and his unrequited relationship with Tara, especially after she, you know, went through everything she was going through with Slade and the the betrayal and like the Titans losing to her and Slade and having to come back and you know have this whole entire retribution, it like it was that kind of fundamental relationship to a fan base and to the pe to the audience, and that really artful and tactical and strategic recognition of who is actually paying attention is what made Teen Titans, I think in Liscase, the stronger and better show when it when put up against X-Men. Because it was able to go farther with the audience that it was supposed to be reaching, because I think it also helped set the precedent for shows growing up with the people who are watching. And again, I think that if it weren't for shows like Teen Titans, Teen Titans, then Avatar Less Airbender and Legend of Cora would not have been able to grow up with the people who are actually watching it, and we wouldn't be able to have the larger um appreciation and relationship with these IPs that we have today, and we wouldn't even be able to have these conversations that we were having, and we wouldn't even be able to say some of the things that we are saying because we wouldn't have the the capacity to strong well, enough of the capacity to like strongly recollect what it meant to actually relate to characters, not just in a theoretical or an abstract sense, but in a direct in a very direct relatable sense.
SPEAKER_00Also, one last thing. Um, just to plug, HBO Max has teen tightness now.
SPEAKER_02They do, they do, they have all the DC properties.
SPEAKER_05No, HBO Max need to hit us up. We know we already know like like a couple episodes.
SPEAKER_00They keep putting out hot shit.
SPEAKER_09Joe TSG can add one more thing about X-Men. Wait, wait, wait, what is it? We need y'all 15, 20 minutes to talk. We kept it showing simple. Let me just save my one last piece.
SPEAKER_10Joe T S G still has to give his point.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_02Oh counter argument had ass.
SPEAKER_08Joe fellow time. We got 30 seconds. Joe fell asleep, dog.
SPEAKER_10Uh, do y'all want Ms. Sion A to give her rebuttal? Go on. Go on.
SPEAKER_07Oh God.
SPEAKER_08We're gonna be here all day going back and forth.
SPEAKER_02I can see Kyle's mind working right now. I can hear it.
SPEAKER_11I I don't plan on adding anything else. I I'll just I'll just say that uh having having gone for a certain you know a certain team had extra time to get their thoughts together. So and and and and and if you believe in your choices and then you know a few more words of the opposition, you know, is it gonna change anybody's mind?
SPEAKER_02Oh slow down, bitch, first of all.
SPEAKER_08All right, go ahead, Joe.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, Joe is back. Is Joe back?
SPEAKER_05I get maybe I'll hang on the same.
SPEAKER_01Joe doesn't care, so y'all can continue.
SPEAKER_06And there's that. All right.
SPEAKER_01I didn't watch either one of these shows growing up, so it's just I have no valid reason to say anything, honestly.
SPEAKER_09Oh Lord. Oh Jesus. I'm gonna keep it short. I'm gonna keep it short and simple. So as the Teen Titans um opposition has stated, they were saying that Teen Titans was something that younger viewers could connect to. And it was a cartoon that made it easier for them to understand. I do I agree and disagree in the sense that watching X-Men as a child helped give me a different view on what love is versus all the different types of Disney movies and shows I was showing on what love was or what love is and how we're supposed to expect it. With the relationship of Gambit and Rogue, it gave me a different view on what love could be. Instead of it, it gave me a intimate relationship. It gave me what intimacy is. These are two couples that couldn't even touch each other. But their relationship was just so strong. The emotion, the feeling, the connection. Rogue with her power, she's not even able to be sexually intimate with Gambit, but they had a different type of relationship to transcend a physical aspect. In my mind, I thought that as a kid, you know, you you fall in love, you get married, you have children, and that's how it is. But X-Men showed a different type of love as well that can be just as strong, just as intimate without having a physical aspect, which is fine too. But it's I was still a child and I understood that. And it gave me a different layer on the different types of love, what love could be. And I was six, seven and I was still able to grasp onto that. It wasn't something that was too, I would say, complicated for me to grasp. You know, they explained the situation, you saw you saw the emotion, and that hit with me the hardest. I think they're one of my favorite cartoon couples of all time, one of my top favorite cartoon couples because it just shows a different dynamic that we're usually not used to seeing on television and in comics. So that's all. Just wanted to add that in.
SPEAKER_10Adopter, you had you said you had another.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and you know, I one, I completely agree with everything, you know, Simon said. And, you know, I think too when we think about the way we enjoyed retroactively or looking back at it and the way we enjoyed it as kids, the fact that we often have more understanding retroactively doesn't mean that like we only enjoyed it retroactively, you know. So even though, you know, we may and not may not have gotten all of the feeds, and I do think I learned a lot about you know, um, accepting others and kindness and whatnot and empathy through X-Men, you know, we're still watching Saturday morning. So we're still enjoying this as kids. It wasn't something that was like, oh well, no one cared about it back then, but now when we look back, we think it's good. Like, no, this was something that, I mean, for me and I'm sure many others, like, we this was transformative for us even back then. And I think we can look back on it and even see more depth in a lot of these themes. And we can even see like how far it went as far as how many areas of you know, how many topics it covers that we may not have completely grasped, but even as kids, we're still able to enjoy just you know, the beauty of the characters, you know, the and we still get the we still are able to really understand a lot of the lessons that they convey. I think X-Men packaged a lot of lessons about equality and kindness and caring for others and accepting those who are different really well, you know. So, you know, I don't think it's an entirely retroactive thing, but I do like understand the argument of teen titans being you know packaged more for young kids. I mean, I think honestly, there's a lot of things that are packaged really, really effectively in X-Men just with these lessons about really being decent to other people, you know.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go send out my synthetic on this now to kill everyone. Sorry, I was yeah. Go ahead. Continue.
SPEAKER_00Can I do one thing? Go ahead. Go ahead.
unknownGo ahead.
SPEAKER_00I mean, we're getting counter argued. It was mainly the it was mainly the miles point, more so.
SPEAKER_04Can I veto, please? Please. I'll pay you. I'll give you uh something.
SPEAKER_11I mean, I don't I you know I brought I brought Teen Titans back, so I don't have a big flourishing uh thing in this particular race. Also, my uh my big thing was for Batman and I and I didn't get to speak at the time. Um let's bring that one back at least. But um but but I was uh I'd I I'd I'd say the one thing uh uh Shay Plume said it is is is shocked is a little shocked in my mind when he when he said he said bumble bumble bumblebee led before Storm dead. That that is wrong in real time, uh comic book time. Uh yeah, but but but uh what's but but X-Men happened nine years before. What's the name? And T Titans is old, but that particular tit tit bit didn't uh hadn't hadn't quite happened.
SPEAKER_00I thought that happened before I thought that happened before. I thought that happened before.
SPEAKER_11Uh no, I thought I think I th I mean I couldn't.
SPEAKER_00Because I can't remember exactly when the Terragen Mist came about. No, and that's why that's when that whole storm leading thing came to mind.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I mean, but that that but then the comments that happened like in the 80s.
SPEAKER_00The Terragen Mist?
SPEAKER_11Yeah, storm, storm uh leading, like coming off of the uh Marauders and shit. She led them.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, I forgot about that part. Never mind. I did forget about that.
SPEAKER_11I was thinking of Storm Leading after the Terragen Miss, not Storm Leading. I mean, she's done it, she's done it a bunch of times.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_11I just think I'm trying to remember when she became permanent, not like I mean, it's hard to say permanent because they're going to switch again. But I heard about that. I just heard about that recently. But but you know, Scott, Scott, Scott falls a lot, and we got a we got a strong black woman. Always did.
SPEAKER_08Scott just died. Scott and Luther should unite together.
SPEAKER_11Scott is a small loser. Yeah, hey, Scott Scott's come a long way though. I love go go Terror Scott. But anyway, that's all that's all I want to say. Y'all go ahead.
SPEAKER_00No, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_10Uh Sammy B, you had your yes.
SPEAKER_00Uh my thing was towards Ross part of the okay, so yes, do we enjoy X-Men? Yes, as kids, before we really understood it. But that's that's one of those things is like X-Men is one of those things you can enjoy just off of everything else around it, more so than you can understand it. Where Teen Titans was something that not only could you understand, you could enjoy as well, and enjoy it a little bit more at the time because you have a better understanding of it, just because you share with all all the all the subjects or storylines that are going on there. Because one of them I didn't even mention was the Tara storyline, which is probably one of the best ones that they had done throughout the whole series. And that was just because of you watch Tara go through the whole thing of thinking and new, thinking of a new kid is going to school for the first going to this new school for the first time. And then she has to get herself acclimated, and then she has to make these friends, and she makes these friends. But then maybe there's some things in her past that she hasn't talked about, or some views that she has that she's kept to herself, and then she starts to release these views, thinking that she could be more at peace with herself, more you know, at peace with these people, being herself, and then find out that because of say somebody else in your ear, you've now made these changes that have separated you from your friends and have uprooted you from this life that you've not only grown accustomed to, but have found joy in. So now you have to relish in the pretty much depression, and you become a functioning, what's the equivalent of a functioning depressor? And watching that storyline for a lot of people, especially around that time, but especially for high school kids mainly, that was a very poignant story in their lives because there was a lot of kids that were going through it, not to that extent, but damn near the same story. So, and that was one, that's one of those things. That was the reason why I just had I just wanted to count to that. It was like there was a lot of things in X-Men that we enjoyed, but never understood. Hell, for a lot of us, not too many of us really understood the race thing that was going on in X-Men until we got older and saw the parallels of that. But that there was many a storyline that was understood and enjoyed in X-Men, and uh Teen Titans.
SPEAKER_10Any other rebuttal?
SPEAKER_02Um I think I wanted to it's it's hard, it's hard to it's hard being on the same it's hard being on the same side as Tammy B because I like we we we we we think literally the same things. So uh but I did want to add that um to his point that when it comes down to the shows and how not simply just how they're enjoyed, but how they're processed, um I think I think that there's more strength in um a more timely, relevant, developmental show than a show that's just generally enjoyed. And I think and I I I will definitely say that's that's definitely much more of a personal thing. Like I think the show, I think a show that has the capacity to not only be enjoyed, but to develop an age and mimic or mirror the actual lives of the audience and not just in a in a larger kind of uh social social way, but in a in a much more personable way, has uh it's much more effective um for generations. And it's interesting because I think that when it comes to Teen Titans, Teen Titans is a show that the audience itself would could connect with who was in that age range, so to speak. Um but people who have gone beyond that age range can watch the show and still see a lot of those parallels of oh shit, yeah, I actually went through that, or I actually experienced something similar to this, or oh, this is actually this is reminiscent of what is actually happening right now to these people, or that I can say that I remember happening to me at some point in time. And like it I I think that the ability for a show to do that, which I think Teen Titans has done, um was a lot stronger. And I and I think that's partly because it went for uh it focused on younger people and not adults. And I think that that's kind of the the dissonant aspect between the two shows. X-Men basically focused on adults and all these adult problems and all these adult fights, but Teen Titans focused on these more teenage problems, these more adolescent problems, or more like you know, child development problems and the different things that come along with that. Like the allegory between Raven's relationship with her family and her father, and the the the the subversion of expectations of what it means to have to implicitly be tied to and love family members, regardless of how dangerous or toxic they are. Like, and the the relationships of your friends superseding that actual relationship, regardless of how biological that imperative is, was amazing. Um, and I think that that is something that that age group needed, and even the age group that was beyond that needed, that we didn't really know we needed at the time. Like it was like those conversations like that that happened for us to us in a language and in a medium and in an arts, not well, in an art style, as well as in a dynamic that we can understand. Because when you're developing your adolescent, family is important, but that relationship to a support system, a friend group, is also extremely important. It looks a lot different when you're an adolescent versus when you're a whole ass adult.
SPEAKER_03You know, it's interesting. This is not a rebuttal, but I think it kind of explains where I guess our differences are as far as how we evaluate these two shows. When you know you mentioned about Teen Titans having, or it's focused on young kids, but it has these messages that older, you know, beyond that age range they can digest. That's exactly how I feel about X-Men. I always felt like with Teen Titans, at least you know, for me and I'm sure some others do, the focus that Teen Titans had on that younger age range, it was very targeted and it made it super digestible, but I felt like it didn't hit as well outside of that age range. Because it was very, very focused on we want to make this really digestible for kids, we wanted to make sure all the messages are clearly understood. Whereas with X-Men, I think X-Men always had a mix of you know messages that are like these are some things that kids can really understand well. And I you know, I think go back to the kindness thing, and I'm Sonia mentioned the you know, the message about love, because I think X-Men did that so, so well, but it also had these messages that were you know more digestible for adults. And to an extent I don't see that as a limitation, I see it as more of a strength. And I felt like it was able to hit a broader range of age groups, and it gives it you know more staying power in a lot of ways because you can enjoy it at every level. And again, it's not so much a rebuttal, but I guess that's where the difference in you know how we think about these shows and you know where we align.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, another it has more replay value. That's how I see like when it comes to video games, you know. So you're something that you don't just play one time and be done with it. It's something that, like majority of cartoons, you see cartoons like cow and chicken. There's a lot of adult themes in there that as kids went way over our heads, even with Shrek. There are a lot of adult themes that went way over our heads. But as adults, we could we could watch as children and then watch as adults and then get a whole entire different side of it. It has replay value, something we can get a little bit more of it, more you know, each time we watch it. Whereas Teen Titans, it's a great show, but the audience is just too targeted for me. So I don't feel any growth per se from me being as an adult. Versus if I was like in that age group, I would relate more because I'm in that age group. But outside of it, it's like, all right, you know, I understand it, but what else can I learn per se?
SPEAKER_11So I th I think I think a big uh uh I think a big part of this uh specific conversation is uh cause I cause I I just I I disag I disagree with the uh the idea that uh not disagree, but X X X the X-Men anime series was drawn from a broad spectrum, like 20 years of comics. And X-Men is a very uh broad like duplication of those stories. Like the way they were written, especially like the Chris Claremont stories, like the way they were written was brought to the screen like almost one-to-one. And and so and it wasn't so that it wasn't so much that those stories weren't meant for children, it was meant for children back then. Uh and and uh but but I but I think those like stories and lessons are also like you know pretty timeless. Um but um but I don't know I don't know, this is such a hard uh uh thing.
SPEAKER_02But um but but you're the one who brought this on the show back. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Um but but ultimately, yeah, I was definitely put uh put on the right team because uh yeah, I think I think it definitely goes back to uh what the doctor said it's just uh it's it's just the the impact. It's just uh you know who these you know who these people became. Oh, and there was one thing the doctor said that uh uh oh I'm about to lose it again. What was it? Oh, oh uh it was it was uh it was saying that like part part of the success of the X-Men was that they were Marvel characters, and that is absolutely not true. Marvel wasn't shit, they was going out of business, and part of part of why Marvel is who they are today is because the success of that show. But yeah.
SPEAKER_10Very valid arguments on both sides, and all of the extra, extra, extra rebuttals were uh definitely uh necessary. Um, so finally, to uh pick the winner of the 2020 Winter Blurred Spectrum Podcast, 90s into the 2000s, cartoon randomized tournament will not be decided by me. It will be decided by the people. Wow, we're gonna give it to the listeners and we're going to post it on our social media platforms, all of us, and we're gonna have them decide who is going to be the you guys have given arguments worthy of political and presidential races. We should let the people decide.
SPEAKER_04Ain't never gonna be allowed to continue in front of you and after after those last presidential debates, how dare you undersell our arguments?
SPEAKER_09Really?
SPEAKER_05It keeps going, it keeps going.
SPEAKER_02So I wanted to be clear, Kazi. Like, if this were if this were any other group of black nerds, I promise you, this conversation would have been a lot more ambitious. There would have been way more yelling.
SPEAKER_06We should have quite calm.
SPEAKER_02We should get quite calm.
SPEAKER_10Quite calm. I'm very proud of all of you. So we're going to give it to the people. We're gonna make posts, we're gonna make uh uh uh we're gonna send it out to the people, all of our different groups, listeners, uh uh, watchers on YouTube, everybody. We're gonna share it on all of our social media platforms. Tell us who is the winner. Our finals right now is between X-Men, Teen Titans, and a write-in candidate, which I'm not gonna tell you who it is.
SPEAKER_06No, don't do that.
SPEAKER_01So come on, Russia. Come through.
SPEAKER_10So I hope that you all have enjoyed this these episodes.
SPEAKER_09This tournament has been what no, give us the answer. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_10You don't want to give you the answer, the people are gonna give you the answer. So just like Dragon Ball Z, until next time. Hey, it took them months just to decide a winner of a fight, even though it was obviously predetermined because it was written on a storyboard, but that's beside the point. This is going to be decided by the people, the people who want to listen and pay attention. So please listen to each of these episodes, trudge through these arguments and these the these deliberations between these two finalists and the write-in candidate, and determine who is the winner.
SPEAKER_02You choose how they decide the winner if they don't know who the write-in candidate is.
SPEAKER_10What? What?
SPEAKER_09No write-in candidate. Scrap no write-ins.
SPEAKER_02How are they gonna determine who the winner is if they don't know who the write-in candidate is?
SPEAKER_10They will know once we put it on social media. I just told you that.
SPEAKER_05Okay, but we need to agree with this sim, right?
SPEAKER_08And you have to tell us, nor did the write-in get debated on like these other two.
SPEAKER_04So write-in did you guys find me at Joe T S G on Instagram.

SPEAKER_06We're gonna do one of those again.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna be stitched like fuck.

SPEAKER_02So basically, he's the enemy of the cosplay state right now. That's rough.
SPEAKER_00Um you can uh catch me at Shabby B on Twitter, or you can catch me at uh shampoo bracelets on Instagram. Yep. Uh you also can catch me at Sushi No Shoker's funeral.
SPEAKER_10Uh it seems like I'm only gonna have one Paul Bears since it seems like shampoo places will be there.
SPEAKER_02All right. We just gonna throw you in the dick somewhere. What you mean?
SPEAKER_10And you'll be lucky yourself. Thank you for listening. Uh, I hope you enjoyed your 2020. Uh, we plan on having quite a uh litany of episodes.
SPEAKER_06Is that an oxymoron statement? What? What's the last episode?
SPEAKER_10Is that an oxymoron? I mean, you have to wish them something. I mean, because they're live, they're listening. I mean, I guess that's a positive.
SPEAKER_11It's the attention that counts. Fair enough. Thank you. What actually happens ain't got nothing to do with us.
SPEAKER_06Thank you. So don't don't don't don't do that.
SPEAKER_10Uh, we hope you tune in for much more of our episodes going into 2021. Um, feel free to let us know what topics. Uh, we actually have a couple polls on uh Instagram right now on different topics we can talk about, uh, like Attack on Titan, uh, like uh Fire Force. Um we actually saw a couple of other uh uh individuals ask us a couple of questions about what we should talk about as well, like different uh openings and endings of anime, which hopefully can uh get those uh copyrights lifted. Anyway, um among other things, there are many topics. Uh we plan on doing a gaming episode relatively soon. It seems like everybody's playing cyberpunk, so maybe we'll talk about that. Um uh we'll also talk about no, we're not talking about cyberpunk shampoo bracelets, no? We're not okay. In the middle of the highest, can we hear this up now? No problem. So uh we'll also talk about food. One of the things that a lot of our panelists love to do is either cook or eat the food that has been cooked. So we're gonna talk about learned food favorites coming up in January. So be prepared because after you know the holiday season is over, you know, people are about to start their New Year's resolutions. I don't they'll be in their houses, so I'm not really sure how much of that will happen, but they'll be exercising for whatever food they cooked. So we'll talk about all the stuff that you ate and all the stuff that we plan on making moving into 2021 from desserts to entrees. To appetizes, to you know, all that stuff.
SPEAKER_09Um can we hear it on air? Can we eat our food on air?
SPEAKER_10Oh, you want to eat it on air? You want to be maybe like an ASMR episode. Jesus.
SPEAKER_08Oh, hell no. I cannot be on for that. No. Why not?
SPEAKER_10You don't want to hear somebody eat some moist cake?
SPEAKER_08No, I can't.
SPEAKER_06Apparently, they're gonna last episode. We can't do it.
SPEAKER_04This is not a dip on. We cannot do that on air. No, thank you.
SPEAKER_10All right. So, but again, thank you everyone for listening. Um, thank you for being on this journey with us during 2020 and as we move into 2021. Uh, we hope that you will continue on with us as we do bigger and better and larger things. Uh, catch us at uh your next favorite virtual uh con since it seems like we're still, hopefully, we're still not going anywhere anytime soon. So maybe you'll see us at a virtual con.
SPEAKER_02Do y'all know AustinCon talk about some tickets, girl? I'm like, is it every time I awesome con or copsucon talk about some tickets?
SPEAKER_09I'm like, I think it was CapsuCon. I'm like, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_06Oh my god.
SPEAKER_08No, CostuCon was canceled. Okay. Oh, they canceled it? Because they were not so long ago. No, no, Castro definitely was canceled. They canceled? Okay.
SPEAKER_02We'll see. Girl, don't cast the Rona. That's all I'm saying.
SPEAKER_10There was that article that I'm I'm going too far into this, but there was that article article that came out a couple uh days ago about uh uh con that actually happened a couple months ago, and somebody went and said about all the I posted that on my video. Yes, you did post it. I was like, someone posted it. That was interesting.
SPEAKER_08Dallas had a whole con.
SPEAKER_10There it is. A whole con.
SPEAKER_08Oh and how many caught Corona?
SPEAKER_10They're still it's the last guy, right? They're still counting the days.
SPEAKER_08It was over 800 people there.
SPEAKER_10Died? Oh, damn. Over 800 people at this con and one space. Allegedly, they had you know certain um instructions and directions and six feet apart stickers on the floor, and they had masks available. But then when you think about the fact that ponds are places where you're relaxed, so people started the masks started coming off. Masks were weren't they uh optional?
SPEAKER_08No, no, they were mandatory, but no, like you know, like like you said, people had they just bring it down, okay, talking, whatever.
SPEAKER_10Like it was I mean, if you have a mask on one ear, it's technically counts like it.
SPEAKER_08Anyway, with 800 people in a room, like right, yeah. Yeah, that guy gets experience and he was like all the conventional people. He was like, This is not it, live life. That's not it.
SPEAKER_10But we'll talk more about all of that stuff in 2021. We may even have the results of some of the people who quarantine themselves to tell you exactly where they're at now. Uh, but thank you again, again, again, again. Thank you, thank you, thank you for listening to each of your panelists, your favorite panelists from Miss Skittles to Sayone, Kaze Shunryu, Shampoo Bracelets, the Black McCoy, Joe Tsg, The Doctor, Suchino Shogun, Lady Legacys, uh uh um I know I'm forgetting people, um, our uh LARPers, uh uh man, uh Prince Suzanne.
SPEAKER_08All guest stars.
SPEAKER_10Huh?
SPEAKER_08All guest stars. All guest stars.
SPEAKER_10All the guest stars, all of our add-ons. Thank you. Because I was really about to sit here and think about it. You were you were. I really was. But everybody's come on, we thank you. Uh HBCUCOM was here as well. But anyway, sorry. Uh, yes, thank you for all of our guest stars who have been on, uh, and then those who are going to be on in 2021. Uh, we hope you continue listening, we hope you continue watching, uh, and you look up for what we're gonna be doing next. Bye.
SPEAKER_05Bye, oh, thanks.
