Welcome back to the Blurred Spectrum Podcast, everyone. This week we have a recommendation episode. Each and every one of our panelists are uh like a fine wine, like a like an aged uh whiskey. For beer, but we've been bottled for several years, several decades.
SPEAKER_03Uh corona, thank you. Oh god.
SPEAKER_04Virus. Anyway, so uh we have uh learned and we have watched many anime, played many games, uh watched many dramas, been to many movies, and uh we believe that uh we'll be able to give you a couple of recommendations for anime that you could potentially watch. This is for people who maybe have never seen an anime before, uh, individuals who have nothing to watch and uh maybe want to jump into one they haven't seen before. Uh there's a couple of new ones, a couple of classics. There's a couple of uh, what do they call them? Cult is it cult clashes or cult clashes?
SPEAKER_06Cult classics. Thank you.
SPEAKER_04Cult classics um amongst this list. Uh we'll have each of our panelists uh give their list, uh just a couple, not too many, uh, to give you something to jump into. Uh so you can um also, I'll give our socials at the end, uh, put some of the ones that you recommend that people should maybe jump into as their first anime or maybe one that they should definitely jump into. All right, starting with our panelists, starting with myself, Suchino Shogun. And shampoo bracelets. Look. Ms. Skittles, The Doctor. What's good? The Black McCoy.
SPEAKER_01What'd it do, my folks?
SPEAKER_04Joe Ts G. Oh. Joseph. Jose. Hola. And Sayone.
SPEAKER_03Oh, what was it called? Dark Elf.
SPEAKER_04So uh I'm just gonna go around each of our panelists and they're gonna give off their list and a brief explanation of why you should maybe tune into it. So, based off their explanation, if it sounds like something you're into, something you like, feel free to uh, you know, log in to whatever channel is using it, whether it be Hulu, Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix, any of the above or more of the other places that you could potentially find them, which we will not say on this podcast. Any of our panelists, thank you. Um stay online. Online portals. There you go. Uh, starting with Miss Skittles.
SPEAKER_07Oh, come on, man.
SPEAKER_04I'm sorry, I'm an instructor, and you weren't look giving me eye contact. So it's just I was drawn to turn your camera off.
SPEAKER_07No, I'm second. Go say I'm second.
SPEAKER_04Okay, Miss Skittles will be second. So we will start with the Prazar the what's it called? The Pizario? Sure. Of our uh podcast, and that would be uh Joe T SG.
SPEAKER_03Wait, what? First of all, you start with words I don't even know. Gotta go with that. Um okay, so shit. I was looking up something. Okay. Um so for my recommendation, I have uh kind of chosen animes that are in somewhat different genres. The first one being Yoru Camp. Um, it's a slice of life within about camping, basically. Uh Cute Girls That Camp. That's pretty much the entire uh thing of the anime. But the soundtrack is fucking amazing. Um it is super fucking relaxing. It's like one of those animes that you watch like after watching like Higodashi or a murder hand tie if you're interested in that. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Some else hand tie.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, because there are some hentais that are also slice of ice.
SPEAKER_04That's true.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That are also a little suspect in certain ways. But anyway, uh the next one is uh Skate to Infinity that just came out this um this this uh anime release season. That was that was cute. Uh if you're into skateboarding like myself um and falling, because you're gonna do a lot of that if you like skateboarding. Uh it's very it's it's it's a really good one. Uh the next one is Beast Stars. If you like furries like myself. Specifically furry rabbits. Yeah, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_01Uh furry wolf, anything that has anything, anything that's not human.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but it's the rabbit for me. It's the rabbit for me. Oh, so cute. So cute. Uh the next one is Log Horizon. Uh the main character is pretty much the black McCoy. I can I can see that. Um, I mean if you're familiar with them, then uh yeah, I highly suggest watching that. And um Higodashi is gonna be my last one if you're interested in psychological thrillers, uh gore, uh people being brutally murdered in in very creative ways. Um but it is somewhat of a slow burn, so you have to be also kind of into that as well, too, and just being confused as fuck in certain episodes. Um but the first episode of this recent um sequel, I think they're calling it. I think it's a sequel now. Um is a it's a very brutal first episode. So if you're into that, I highly recommend those.
SPEAKER_04Awesome sauce. Thank you, Joe T S G.
SPEAKER_03He had Capit Short. See I never doubt it for short of the version. So you know what? First of all, Mr.
SPEAKER_04Professor, Professor South The Self-Proclaimed Number Two, Ms. Skittles.
SPEAKER_07Okay, so I'm trying to make this quick. Um, so my first my first recommendation is the goat, the old school, the the the legendary cowboy bebob. Cowboy Bebob is like it's like um like an old school western, but it's also set in the future, like 20, like like way in the future, like before.
SPEAKER_03Space Cowboys.
SPEAKER_07Yes. Um it's sent around um the main character um and his crew, which is Spike. Um, and they are bounty hunters, and they're pretty much, you know, going through, you know, the galaxies or whatever, you know doing bounty hunter shit. But um it definitely has like an old school like western feel, but it's also futuristic. So that's that's what that's what I like about you know that whole dynamic of um cowboy be bop. Um and also the music is fucking gorgeous. Uh transcendental.
SPEAKER_04Ahead of its time set the stage for many people's anime virginities being taken.
SPEAKER_07Snatched.
SPEAKER_06Snatched.
SPEAKER_07Uh my second recommendation is going to be um Death Note. So uh Death Note is like uh well it's a show game, um, technically, but it's also like like this little high school boy, he finds um this book um that's that you pretty much like you got the power of the the death god. Um and uh he takes it upon himself to try to be logical um and and how he wants to use it um against criminals. But um of course, you know, there's pros and cons to becoming a god. Um so um so yeah, he's he's like on this journey to to uh yes, he's trying, I I feel like he's trying to be good, but there like you said, there I mean, like I said, there's pros and cons to to trying to be a god, and um you know ultimately are are you are you doing any good or are you becoming what what you're trying to get rid of? So um, so light, light uh is the main character, um, and he he goes on this wild ass journey. Um that involves uh the the god of death, uh um a notebook, uh crazy ass girl, uh the FBI and some more shit. But um uh I think that's definitely a good, it's kind of like a psychological I don't I don't know, thriller, sci-fi type shit. Um so I definitely would recommend that note. Um especially, you know, it it definitely questions like morals. Um so I I like that shit. Um and last um I'm gonna go with uh a newer anime that um turned out to be really interesting to me, which is uh Cells at Work.
SPEAKER_01Damn it.
SPEAKER_07Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I I'm so mad at you, but I still love you.
SPEAKER_07I love Cells at Work is basically an anime about the fucking human body. It's about biology, and it follows this little red blood cell who don't know shit about shit. And she goes through, you know, with this white blood cell who always ends up saving her ass. And um, but I mean it basically, you know, each each of the characters are are different things that can happen in the human body. Um, and I love biology, so um it definitely was like, oh my god, like this is super cool. Like I'm literally learning about you know real life science and watching that anime at the same time. So it's just like boom, combination, love, love it. Um, so yeah, I I would definitely check out Sales at Work. And there's also uh second season that just dropped. So nice.
SPEAKER_04Awesome. Next we move on to shampoo bracelets. Anybody like that accent? No, okay. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, piggybacking off of this skittles. There's also uh uh sales word black.
SPEAKER_06Yep.
SPEAKER_00I haven't watched it yet, but I gotta get it. Oh wait, what do you think?
SPEAKER_01Sales that word cold black is much darker.
SPEAKER_09Let me write that down.
SPEAKER_05Yep, they're the alcoholic body who don't take care of themselves.
SPEAKER_09Oh yes. That's not my recommendation.
SPEAKER_03I'm sorry, what I missed it, huh?
SPEAKER_00I fucked the whole chat up with this. Oh god.
SPEAKER_03All right, Chapla Bracelets.
SPEAKER_08Um, so the first one I wanted to talk about was Grimmore of Zero. So it's about a sorcerer or a witch named Zero, and she gets her magical book stolen. So she recruits this half man, half mercenary, which is called uh the fallen beast, to help her work through the trials of getting her book back because she's one of the most powerful witches in the land. And then there's imitators, there's a whole church after her that she didn't start, and then come to find out her counterpart is the one that's behind all this madness and stole her book. Um it's a very good anime. I I actually watched it without Shambi B and binged it because it was just that damn good.
SPEAKER_04That that's that's for for the listeners, that is high praise for an anime. I'm just letting you know. If Damo can sit through it with no help, go ahead and watch that one.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um my recommendation actually, I was gonna be I wanted to be different, and I just picked this up about a week ago. Um, Juji Ito collection. So for all that don't know, Juju Ito is what who is can be known as the grandfather, or I want to say the father of uh horror man. Father, father, the father of horror maker. And um, I originally got into him because of Uzumaki, uh, which was it's just literally a thing about and it's Juju Ito collection is a bunch of his shorter stories extend to a I want to say it was a 12-episode series. Um and it's literally just it's two uh two short stories per episode. Uh some of and those are not like then they're not typically how you would look at a horror, they're more classic horror, like it's creepy and it you feel it down to your soul. Like it's like it's not like it's a it's one of those things that's like first you can just look at it like, oh, this ain't gonna be too scary. Next thing you know, you see some shit that you didn't expect.
SPEAKER_03And then you get your head to like just like pretty much imagine the Cardi B meme where she's like, what is that?
SPEAKER_00It's a bunch of what is that moments. It's literally a bunch of what is that moments. So um that was uh coming out with a new series, actually. I know Uzumaki is coming out as an anime, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um so uh the last one uh both of us wanted to uh give up was, and we just talked about this, uh Hoseki no Kuni, also known as Land of the Lustrous. Land of the lustrous. Um the best way to say it is one, this is beautiful to watch. This is one of the most beautiful animes I have ever seen in my whole entire life, especially for being a computer generated anime. I see the skill safe. I see it like this.
SPEAKER_08I I was like, damn, this woke me up. Like that artwork was so was so great.
SPEAKER_00I have never seen a computer animated. They what they did was they mix computer animation with hand drawings.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And they they pull it off in a way that I didn't expect it to look like. I wish Netflix was this good.
SPEAKER_05I wish Netflix was this good. I think it's only I think it's only second to beat stars.
SPEAKER_08So is it on Netflix? Is it on like can we watch on? We watched it on Amazon. Yeah, we watched it.
SPEAKER_03It used to be on Netflix, I think. I don't know if it's still on there, though.
SPEAKER_08I don't think well, I think when we searched it, it was only on Amazon, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think it was the only place we found it was on Amazon.
SPEAKER_03I actually want to thank y'all because I forgot I had a figure. But I that is now worth like $400, and I'm gonna sell the shit out of it. Oh wow, man.
SPEAKER_04Oh, hardest menu. I recommend you go and watch this.
SPEAKER_09Uh like when we when we watched it, I don't go in the week. I wrote it down. I wrote it down.
SPEAKER_00It's literally, it was the anime itself is pretty much it's Stevie Universe to anime, but they cut Stevie Universe the whole fucking way out. Um like it's just like you just have the jewels, uh the gems themselves. And they have different, but there's a lot more gems. I want to say it's like a hundred gems, all of them have special.
SPEAKER_08So any gem that you would think that you could buy in a jewelry store is in this show. It's in this show, and they're simple as what it's saying.
SPEAKER_00And their power levels are based more on their hardness. So the main character is named uh phosphorite. I like phospholite. The main character is named phospholite, and uh, she is you're watching her as she goes to her changes to become more powerful and batty battle ready, but she is the second uh most fragile jewel. One of the most powerful ones is one of the most powerful ones.
SPEAKER_03No, what's your name?
SPEAKER_00So you have some of the B.
SPEAKER_04I was about to say it better be vibranium.
SPEAKER_00I can't remember the name, but because they're way too difficult for me to remember. Like a lot of these, like the main character was phosphorus. I didn't say her name correct. But Cinnabar Cinnabar was another one of the uh I think it's Bort.
SPEAKER_03I think Bort is the Bort, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um and they're literally you're just following them as they're going along the line of trying to figure out uh why they're fighting this particular alien from the moon known as the Lumens. As you go through, you find out there's a lot more to this than meets the eye. They actually uncover it's a it kind of turns into somewhat of a mystery, as you get to understand it. So um it but once again, the anime is beautiful. It's absolutely beautiful. The action scenes are really done really well, the anime is beautiful, and the characters they all have different personalities, and the way their personalities change, it's an interesting watch.
SPEAKER_03So please my waifus are amethyst. Uh they're twins. You're so funny.
SPEAKER_09Isn't your birthday in February as well, Joe?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_09So it makes sense that it's amethyst. That's so cute. That's the February, is that your birthday?
SPEAKER_03Oh, I don't know that. I never actually put the two and two together. Oh, that's cool.
SPEAKER_04All right. Moving on to Miss Sayone.
SPEAKER_09Oh, hello. I I tried to make it three, Chad, and I end up with seven.
SPEAKER_04Did you? Well, then close your eyes and drop your finger on the paper and then do that one. Just do that three times.
SPEAKER_09Oh, it still goes to seven. So I'll talk really quickly.
unknownThree.
SPEAKER_09So three? Three, Jesus Christ. Um I'll start with um Mononoke, the anime, not the movie. So Mononoke is like kabuki style. Yo, like that type of theater. And um, it is supernatural. It goes through the different supernatural stories of Japanese culture. Um, I think they have the Niko, the cat, Nikko? I forgot. Um, but they have like the ghost cat story. Um, they have stories that are in like about a dojo. So it's each episode is a different um like a ghost story or supernatural story. The the medium that was used, like the art style that was used was so interesting. It almost looked like a combination of 2D, computer, and paper mache, or like, you know, kind of like construction paper. It was so different, like what I'm used to seeing. The so if you get a chance, look up Mononoke. The um the art style is just fucking beautiful and so unusual. Like you it no other anime I've ever seen looks like it.
SPEAKER_00You said Mononoke?
SPEAKER_09Mononoke. Like, so take the princess out and just I just started watching it.
SPEAKER_00I just started watching it.
SPEAKER_09It's gorgeous.
SPEAKER_02It's like watercolors almost.
SPEAKER_09It's like watercolors, and it's like a cult classic because it's not like advertised like that. I had to look up um, I think, like top favorite supernatural animes, and that was on a list and ended up watching it. So I didn't even know about it until I I was trying to look up new anime content to watch. Um, so my next one would be good lord, Paranoia Agent. Paranoia Agent Um is something I watch on adult swim. I think back in high school, it plays on psychological, supernatural. You don't know if if this is real, you don't know if this is really what plagues people's minds. And it's about man, it's been years since I watched it. I can't even remember the main character. All I know is that there is this supernatural entity that goes around terrifying people with the golden bat and roller blades and whopping the fuck out of them. And um, but I don't think they end up dying. Maybe one person died, I can't remember. But like they just really just like walk the wally whop the fuck out of you. And a lot of times, a lot of times it's more so these people that were um that were targeted or hit, it they had like a sense of realization after the fact, which is kind of interesting, you know. Um and my third, I don't know. I'll go I'll go old school, Ninja Scroll. I'll go old school with Ninja Scroll. That was probably the most adult anime that I watched as a kid, where it had cursing, it had nudity, it had gore, um, you know, it had um supernatural um elements to it, and it was cool. It's like what you as a kid is not supposed to watch, but this shit is just so fucking fire. Like, you gotta watch it.
SPEAKER_05Like, that isn't just fuego.
SPEAKER_03I'm just Shay, I just saw this biblically accurate Angel cosplay. Oh, you just saw it. Oh, he just got the it was like a painting.
SPEAKER_04You didn't realize that was her stopping. Keep looking, look at the details. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, listen.
SPEAKER_09I'm sorry. I'm sorry, y'all. This is a completely off topic. It took like about two weeks, and so when it came to, I was looking up biblically accurate um angels. I first saw it on YouTube, and then it was just kind of like blew up on TikTok. And um basically, if you read, well, I'm not a huge Bible reader, but what we the little cute cherubins that we see or white babies with. Wings on it back, that ain't the real shit. Now they're gonna look terrifying. That's why right. So the eyes all over be not afraid is because how they look cannot comprehend human eyes.
SPEAKER_06Exactly.
SPEAKER_09They have eyes all over, they don't look human, they look un you know, otherworldly. And so I wanted to kind of I did some research on different hierarchy of angels, and there is a hierarchy of angels. You have the regular angels who are basically going to be like our guardian angels, and then you have the principalities, you have the um uh oh my goodness, the people who smite y'all niggas, like the ones uh with Michael and um archangels, and they're kind of on the bottom of the total pole. The ones on the highest near God, so to speak, are the cherubim, the orphanum, the uh seraphum. And so the orphanem, they're actually so on my head, I kind of did it's like spheres and within a sphere, it's what God sits on. It's basically the transportation that God can sit on. No one, if you're a human, you can't even fuck with them because they're on God's level. Like that's some wild shit. And um then you have the seraphum, which they have wings all over, you know, cover their feet, cover their their eyes. And the cherubim, they're actually a human face, and you have an ox, and then you have like a um like a tiger. It's like a three-headed um entity that has wings covering their body and feet. So really looking into angelography is really fucking cool. I wish you could.
SPEAKER_03But I'm loving your hair. The most people like I love your hair.
SPEAKER_09Oh, thank you.
SPEAKER_03Pearls is popping. I can see it. Look, I can see it behind the wings.
SPEAKER_09Oh, thank you. Child, I took an old wig and just try to make it the afro. But anyway, I'm sorry, this is a record.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, let's go back to the yes, let's go back to the animal. Thank you. Was that your last one?
SPEAKER_09Uh well, I mean, you made it my last one. So I'll right.
SPEAKER_04So I will go next. Drop in the middle. Uh, so my first anime is uh actually it's one I really like. Um I've watched it at least 10 times. Um actually, all of the, I think all of the ones on my list, other than the ones that are still going, I've seen multiple times. Um like it's one I could just pick up and I can watch all the way through. And like if I have an empty day, I'll do that. If, and it's very rare. But um, it is uh a Star Driver Galactic Pretty Boy. It is uh an anime that actually came out on what? It came out on um Tunami or Adult Swin at one point, and I caught it there, and then it slowly like integrated me into uh online when I watched it again. Uh it's an action mecha shonen. Uh basically the concept of the anime is the uh main character gets watched up on a beach. You find out that he swam to this island from the mainland in Japan, of course. Um he starts going to this high school. I honestly, if you start watching this, you'll think it's a slice of life. Uh because they they they they you you won't know because it's kind of like, oh, da-da-da-da. He's like going to school and all this other stuff. And then, like, literally, maybe 15 to 20 minutes into the episode, then all of a sudden everybody's wearing masks, um, like tuxedo style masks, and uh they're in the this like weird secret, I don't say weird, but the secret organization where they all have mechs or like the the highest level guys have mechs, and these mechs are supposed to like try to take over the island specifically to take the I won't say the virginity, but it's kind of like take the uh essence of the virginity of the shrine maidens, because the shrine maidens are the ones that protect the island. I don't want to give too much away, but it's really, really dope. And then the Galactic Pretty Boy ends up getting his own mech, even though he just came to the island. It's it's dope, like and all the mechs are like big O style. Woohoo! It's amazing. Anyway, yeah, so that's my one. Um number two, ah, I actually had the difficulty picking a number two, um, but I'll do it anyway. Um my number two is uh Doctor Stone. Uh Doctor Stone Stone Wars uh just came out with its uh second season this week, actually, this weekend, I believe.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, this game.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so it's if you've never heard of it or never seen it, it's an adventure sci-fi shonen. Um I would have never watched it if it wasn't for the Black McCoy because uh I didn't know anything about it, and the Black McCoy made me sit down and watch it, and it turned into a phenom phenomenal anime about uh a uh a young scientist. Science, yeah. A young scientist uh who um I don't want to give too much away, but a young scientist who ended up in this predicament where his scientific knowledge allowed him to pretty much learn how to survive and have other people's pretty much like almost recreated the world. But again, I'm not gonna go into too much detail, but I would definitely recommend to anybody who's a lover of science, chemistry, um, mechanics, uh uh engineering, Dr. Stone is definitely something you want to pick up and give it the first, even if you uh honestly you can give it the first episode, you'd be fine, but give it the first three episodes, and you will know you had not made a mistake.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, at least so good. So good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, our our doctors are agreeing, so they're even um shoot. Okay, so I would be rude if I was to do more than three and tell Sayone she couldn't. So I'm going to, and she's looking at me, so I'll leave it uh to my final one, uh, which is the one anime um that I know for without a shadow of a doubt, uh, even above um Stardriver, I can watch over and over again. Honestly, most years I will watch this anime again from top to bottom, and that is the phenomenal from back in the 90s, Yu Yu Haku Show. Hands down, the action comedy, demon fantasy, martial arts, school shonen about you, you're a meshi. Uh he by far is like uh like the uh list.
SPEAKER_09I know, and I was scared. I was shuttered.
SPEAKER_04I was like, yo, if she does this, I'm not, I might have to do it again. And I'll just let it be one of them. I was like, oh. Um Yu Yu Hakasho is a phenom phenomenal anime, again I say, um, that of course came out in the 90s. Uh and it's interesting because although it came out in the 90s, a lot of us watched it in the late 90s into the 2000s when it came to Tsunami, and then also Adult Swim. And with even without the theme song, even though the theme song solidifies it, but even without the theme song, Yu Yu Hakusho is phenomenal from start to finish. From uh uh the first integration into the demon tournament, into the dark tournament, into uh uh wait no, I did it backwards, sorry. Into Genkai's tournament, into the dark tournament, into the demon tournament. Um, and then of course the movies that came out. I was excited when they say that we're gonna come out with a uh a not a reboot, but a new season last year, I think it was, the year before last, and then it was just like two episodes to like see what people feel. And the art style, they kept the same art style, but the colors are like modernized. I don't know if you guys have ever seen it, but I'll send it to you. Like the episodes were dope, and I was excited. I was like, oh, oh, oh, we're doing this, right?
SPEAKER_09Post a link, post a link because I didn't even know that existed.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I heard about it happening, but I hadn't seen it seen it anywhere.
SPEAKER_05Oh, didn't we either?
SPEAKER_04Didn't we watch that? We did.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I made sure you saw it because I was excited. I was like, I can't be excited by myself. So it was phenomenal. I thought if something else was about to happen. I'm gonna have to do some more research to see if they're still gonna do it. I don't know if it was a studio. I think it was around the time COVID started, earlier part 2020, maybe, or end of 2019. Maybe that's why. Actually, it might have been the end of 2019. That might make sense. Okay, so anyway, that's my third one. Uh, of all mine, I would say number one will be Yu Hakusho. Go and watch it. You are not an anime head. If you haven't at least seen one of the seasons of the arts, I don't care what anybody says, fight me. You're not a real anime fan, honestly. Well, that's what I'm saying. We are like at least one arc, honestly.
SPEAKER_09I feel like everybody has to say Yu Yu Haku Show. I mean, I don't know anyone who doesn't like Yu Yu Hakusho. I know a lot of people don't like Sailor Moon, but you know Haku Show is like the OG. OG the opening theme song does not hit you.
SPEAKER_03Like, I don't know what else to tell you.
SPEAKER_04You've been to several conventions, and when that track drops, everybody stops and sings. Even if you don't know, people are jamming the smile bomb. Guaranteed.
SPEAKER_01Was it in 2019? Blurcon 2019, it came on in the grand hall during one of the parties. Oh, everybody went off.
SPEAKER_05Oh it was all it's a vibe. Lost they shit. Anywho, Dejon and Power Line.
SPEAKER_04Oh, but let's move on to uh the doctor.
SPEAKER_02All right, so for my three recommendations. So, first off, probably one of my biggest ones has got to be psychopaths.
SPEAKER_06Yes, Lord.
SPEAKER_02It is uh it's such a good anime, it's a really good look into kind of the extreme of society repressing people's emotions, you know, or restricting, you know, like restricting your humanity in a very, you know, kind of like fantastic, but you know, extreme way, but in a metaphor for what society really does in a lot of ways, with you know, restricting actions and what's appropriate and what's not. And you know, I don't I don't want to get too much into it because I know we don't want to get away, you know, spoilers, those two maybe seeing these for the first time, but um, it's a really uh it's a really interesting look at kind of this um ultra-repressive society and what the logical conclusions are of that and this whole big investigation that's a part of you know these crimes that are taking place, you know, it's uh it's there's so much there. Like it's just really good.
SPEAKER_04So the crimes are so twisted and gory. Oh, it's so twisted. It is like that one where the the crime in the in in the middle of Central Park and the person the people were turning to the statues. I was like, like whenever I think of gore, that's the first thing that comes to mind. Just the beauty of gore, honestly.
SPEAKER_02No, okay. It is an anime that uses gore for suspense really well. Like it doesn't feel jump scary or anything like that for the most part, but like it's a really good, it's it's just very good at using suspense, you know, and creating for sure.
SPEAKER_09It uses trauma very well, and you know, it makes you think about mental illness and in the mind of someone that's really going through something, and then they try to they kind of criminalize you based on your mental illness and your mental state. So it's like if you're depressed, you kind of fuck. You know what I'm saying? But it's it's it's a it's a brilliant, brilliant original anime. That's there's nothing like it for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. All right. So my second category. So I absolutely love this. It's the perfect fusion of high school gambling, uh sociopathic heroes, politics. Like it is a really interesting, you know, it's on Netflix and it follows this hero who, you know, is kind of a sociopathic hero, but not in a, you know, kills a whole bunch of people kind of way, but more so with just like, you know, disregard in a lot of ways for, you know, it's like, oh, it's almost like an anti-hero, but not quite. But um, you know, and she sold it, and she basically is rising to the rings of high school through these gambling challenges and this whole high school where everything's around gambling, you know, and the way it's the way it does expressions, like it's super, super expressive with you know, people's reactions and with like you know, the intensity of like even you know something seemingly minor, like it does a really good job of making these interactions extremely intense, you know. Um so yeah, I you know love kakaguru. Um definitely like season season two is good, season one was my favorite, though. So, you know, if you're gonna start it, start at season one. You know, um fantastic.
SPEAKER_09It's so wonderfully sadistic. Oh yeah, and I love that. It was like sadistic and like a in such a strange way, and that was kind of it was hot, it was it was it was hot, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, probably the best facial expressions, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yes, yeah, like if Allison Madness was an anime, I would want it to be drawn like that. But uh, the doctor, your third, right?
SPEAKER_02And my third. So, and this one, it isn't, you know, it's definitely actually not an anime because it is Western animation, but it draws on so many anime tropes that I kind of view it in a very similar lens. And if you love anime, you'll love this, and that is Castlevania on Netflix. Castlevania is fucking amazing. Like it is so good. I mean the action, you know, the way characters are developed, uh the political intrigue that goes on. Like, I never thought that vampire politics would be as interesting to me as you know, so like it's it's just so good, and it's something that it's really easy to get into, too. So that's what I'm saying is you can just pop in on episode one and you will immediately see why it's so good.
SPEAKER_07But the way it was written, top five depictions of Dracula.
SPEAKER_04Yes, yeah. Miss Kittle, do you agree? Top five depictions of Dracula?
SPEAKER_07Oh, yeah. Oh, hell yeah.
SPEAKER_09It played on Bram Stalker's Dracula, which was one of my favorite Draculas, to be truly honest. And um, I think Bram Stalker's Dracula, the movie, came out in like the 90s, and it made Dracula sexy. Yeah, good.
SPEAKER_05Gary Omen acted his ass.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, like bite the shit out of me, like have a blood lane for you, you know. Uh here's a napkin to dap my neck when you're ready. Yeah, I was I was all about it.
SPEAKER_04So all right. Uh next, The Black McCoy.
SPEAKER_01Um, let's see. So my um I'm actually going to my first one's actually not a show, but it is a movie. It's one Kazan I discovered recently. It's called Night is Short, Walk On Girl. Um We did not know what to expect going into the movie. And if anyone knows like my viewing pleasures, I love going into things, not knowing what's about to happen because I'm very much along with the journey type of person. Um I don't care where it's going as long as it's good. Um, and that sh that movie was entirely about that concept. Like the main character is this young girl, and she literally can drink any and everyone under the table. Um, and that's how the movie starts. Uh, start it starts with her drinking and her talking about life and moving forward. And you get to see her go on this miraculous, kind of surreal but very human journey throughout, you know, throughout Tokyo, um, interacting with friends, strangers, all of whom turn out to be interconnected and all of their destinies kind of intertwined in this way. And it's this long, uh, this very long and interesting and nuanced conversation about the idea of fate and um kind of providence. And I think that if if that's some if you're looking for something that's not that's fun but informative, but also profound, then that's a great movie to start out with. Um and it's also kind of it seems really chaotic at first because it seems like a lot of different shit is happening, but as you watch, you as you watch and pay attention, you see that all these things are like interconnected in this really intimate way, and everything comes to a head at the end and like makes sense as this full life kind of life lesson type of situation. So um it's a 2017 film and the art style is very reminiscent of older manga. And I think that if you're into a much more kind of simplistic but also really creative and fluid um art style, then that's definitely a movie to check out.
SPEAKER_03If you like Ghibli movies, it's very somewhat reminiscent.
SPEAKER_06Oh Ghibli?
SPEAKER_03No, it's not Studio Ghibli, but it's very reminiscent as far as the art style goes.
SPEAKER_01I'd absolutely agree there. Um especially all your older ones. Yeah, and the writing's fantastic. So that's my first pick. My number two pick is actually going to be Carol and Tuesday on Netflix.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it's phenomenal. I still listen to the soundtrack. It's such a today. Like it's so good.
SPEAKER_01If you're not into slice of life anime, then Carolyn Tuesday isn't for you. Um, Carol and Tuesday is definitely um in a slice of life anime genre. Um, and it it centers on two girls. Um, one is a black girl, one is a white girl. They come from very different backgrounds, um, but they find each other, and all both of them want to do all both all they want to do with their lives is make music. And the way in which they find each other and their journey into their music career and throughout, and you get getting the depiction of this kind of I don't I don't know what century, but it's a futuristic society. Like the world is like humans are colonized Mars, so they live on Mars, and so it's this whole, you like you get to see the whole kind of environment politics of um mostly the music industry on Mars in the future and kind of what it means for them to be breakout um stars and really um talented musicians in this world that's almost entirely dependent upon AI in a lot of different ways. Like one of the things, and it's not really a spoiler, but one of the things that's a huge um deal for them when people are discovering them is like they don't use AI at all. They don't use they don't use technology to write music, they write music on their own. They use a piano and a guitar and their and their creativity and they produce. And the way it dumbfounds the rest of the world and the way it moves the rest of the world and the characters and everyone, all the naysayers is amazing. So if you have music in your spirit, if it's one of your favorite things, if you love touching loving stories with a lot with that have characters who are who have a lot of depth and especially female-led characters who don't rely on romance for like a plot point, then this is absolutely a show for you. Um I definitely it's on Netflix, they have two seasons. Um, it definitely will make you cry in some points because the art style one is amazing. And whenever they go into these musical numbers, it is always a full-on production. And the representation in it is astronomical, as well as the various allegories that they have for um immigration and marginalized peoples and the them using music to voice, you know, their their um sociological and economic circumstances and an oppression and things like that. It's it's phenomenal. It's a really great show. I think that with everything that goes on in it and the premise of the show, it's it it's mind-boggling that so much is put into it. Um my third and final one is a show that is already complete. It's uh Shokugaki no Soma Food Wars. Um it is a show, the premise of the show is that there's this this young red-headed boy um named Soma, and he runs a diner with his father. Um, and of course in Tokyo, because where else does this shit happen but Japan? And um he ends up, his father ends up closing the restaurant um because Soma's plan after he graduates middle school to see, you know, just drop, well, for all intents and purposes, end his education there and continue training at the restaurant. His father closes it down and sends him to this elite cooking academy. At first he was like, Well, why are you sending me to cooking school? Like, I can just learn everything I need to learn here. But what in what you end up learning is that this academy isn't just any old cooking school, it is where top chefs and their offspring and and then some have gone to train or have come from and invest billions. Well, uh, that's I that might be an exaggeration, but a lot of fucking money into the school. And the show is phenomenal. If you love anime food, if you love food porn, then this is a this is a show absolutely for you. And if you want to get into anime, then they they do, and I will say there is like a bit, there is a good bit of fan service in it, but that fan service is focused around the concept of a food gasm. So when people like when you see these kind of like fan service like reactions, it's because they're tasting the food that they're eating. It's not just fans, it's not just fan service for the sake of being fan service. It's it's it's um it's um it's expressive for a reason. Like it's it's dramatic for a reason, like it's ridiculous for a reason. Because, you know, the the premise of the show is food. And not just food, but everyone being uh everyone being a chef and everyone being a good chef, and you not necessarily needing to come from certain backgrounds or have certain knowledge to be able to produce these for all intents and persons, like Michelin, like three Michelin star meals. And one of the things that I love about the show that I think makes it that much more relatable is that the main character goes up against so many elite chefs and offspring of chefs and elite cooking students, um, and people who come from like wealthy families who have all these legs in the industry and so on and so forth. And he has the capacity to take things that you would find at your local supermarket and take all of the knowledge about food, um all of his experience with mistakes with food, and then some and all of his failures and successes. And turns it into a dish that you can very easily make at home using the techniques and steps. And it's also an extremely educational boot show because it shows you all the steps. Well, it shows you the majority of the steps that are taken and pretty much all the dishes that are made. It explains to you the flavor. It explains to you the background of the ingredients. It explains to you the culture where each dish comes from, like the different components that are combined. It's one of the most creative anime that I've ever seen in my lifetime, partly because it wasn't until this show that I realized that, and I take the y'all can take this however you want, listeners, panelists, I don't care, that shonen anime have been so dependent upon uh fight scenes for so long. And I think that Shokugekinosoma is a show that is like it's a shonen that takes the idea of um competitiveness and turns it truly into a culinary art form. And if you love Food Network, absolutely go to the show. If you find yourself watching how to cook bake shit all the time, please go check the show out because you will learn so much more and be and I think it'll foster your creativity more than you actually realize.
SPEAKER_03It's more close to a comedy cooking in spice of life than it is like shounen.
SPEAKER_01But either way, still amazing watch it. What anime, I don't I would I don't I wouldn't call it a comedy because I mean what anime doesn't incorporate some degree of comedy into it. That's just like part of the writing. But no, I think I think the shonen.
SPEAKER_07I think the shonen fits uh it's it's defined as teenage boy, you know.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah, I would say because one of the main appeals of a shonen is that it's usually appealing to young men, and and I think Food Wars actually has a higher woman fan base than it does men. But regardless or not, fucking watch it. It's an amazing anime.
SPEAKER_01It is also known.
SPEAKER_03If you want to just see people just explode just based off of like what they eat, watch it. I wish I could do that.
SPEAKER_01If you want to learn about what they're eating, watch it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I got I got real big feedback off of the Black McCoy set too for Carolyn Tuesday. But anybody that watches anime and is also a hip-hop head, you'll know the name of Denzel Curry. The dub version of Carolyn Tuesday, Denzel Curry actually does the rapper of that show. He does a voice of the voice of it. They came to him, they asked him if he wanted to do it. He's also a very big anime enthusiast. So he was happy to actually do that character. So, yeah, the voice of the rapper in that show is uh Denzel Curry. Also, is a theory that Carol Tuesday also takes place in the same universe as Cowboy Diva because it was the same.
SPEAKER_03It was actually it's actually um Cam Krugen. Confirmed that's confirmed, right? Yeah, that's confirmed. Sorry, thank you.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that's uh wasn't there a third one that was also a part of the Carol, the voice of Carol is actually uh a black woman as well. I think her name is Nai Bri. She's also a real singer, so yeah.
SPEAKER_05If she wasn't, she is now.
SPEAKER_04All right, to round out our panelists, yo three.
SPEAKER_05All right, so uh I wanted to be uh kind to our time and myself, so I uh limit myself to one older anime. I'll say that last. But to uh get people uh into this new season, uh my first one uh is uh kimono jihad. It is a uh supernatural uh anime. It's about uh this uh young boy. He's like working at his uh bathhouse and and for some reason he's like completely like shunned. He had they like they got him like outside working the fields. They you know they don't let they don't let him uh work with the people because they because you know they say he stinks all the time and he's treated like terribly. And uh and they have this uh uh detective type dude uh show up and he's trying to figure out uh mystery about something. I don't I don't remember what he says. He's uh asking about it.
SPEAKER_01The livestock were dying for some reason. And no one knew why, like something was like eviscerating the livestock, and I didn't know what it was.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he so he's there to uh investigate that and he immediately like sees the boy and takes interest in him, and like you know, and and they're like and you know, and they're trying to like you know push the rest of their staff on him, like, oh no, no, you don't have to worry about him. And he's like, No, no, no.
SPEAKER_03Oh, another stimulus?
SPEAKER_05No, though people uh people who uh who uh people don't pay attention to got shit to say. So I think I'm gonna go uh so you know so he acts, you know, he he acts to see this boy, and you know, I don't want to go into too much detail, but it's just uh it was like really, you know, it was like really fascinating. The uh it was paced like super well, like there's like a mini mystery in the first episode, and everything's not what it seems, and the supernatural aspects come in. And and there's uh a single hit in this episode, and it is it is breathtaking. This single one. Uh oh.
SPEAKER_01This uh we had to go back and rewind. We wanted to clear the shit out of it. I I was surprised I screamed day.
SPEAKER_05You know, it's it's one of those things where it's kind of like even uh you know, even in a shonen anime, like a fight is really about like a story and emotion, and this whole like in this whole episode really just you didn't know what was happening, but it really just led like you you didn't know you needed that for this person until it happened, then it's like ooh, yep, just the catharsis. But um, but yeah, no, that that show is really interesting. I think it set a really good groundwork for uh for an interesting season. Uh my next um suggestion is uh Mushoko Tensei Jobless Reincarnation. It is a uh Isekai, like you know, we have a billion of those every uh season. Also, don't no one mentioned spider. Also, that's really weird. I like left that off.
SPEAKER_03I thought Joe T S G was going to. I was going to, but somebody was rushing me, so I was like, Because I was also going to recommend that and redo with Hiller.
SPEAKER_04I like Redo of Healer, but some people don't.
SPEAKER_01First of all, we never said we didn't like Redo of Hero.
SPEAKER_04Excuse me, we're we don't want to get off on a tangent.
SPEAKER_05But uh, but yeah, uh it's a it's another Izika. It is well, I mean, one, it's it's gorgeous. Like the just the the lighting, the coloring, the just the direction. Like they really is is it's rare like when uh when the anime director knows where to put the the the camera like and know like exactly how to like you know evoke emotion from the scene by like how how and where you're like looking at the characters, the you know, the voice the voice acting is fantastic. Honestly, the only like negative, and this is like really like a my kind of a minor thing, is the this this this little boy who's reborn is uh is like is a 30-something year old this like horny dude and he's like it's like this baby like lusting like after his mama and borderline too much.
SPEAKER_01I mean he I'm gonna have to start watching. I'm like, all right.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and I mean I don't I don't I think it's uh I I think it's gonna be reined in just a lot, even because even when he mentioned uh looking at his mom's breasts, he was like, Oh, actually, I'm not attracted to that. He was like, he he it was just like at this automatic, oh I like titties, I see titties, and then he was like, Oh wait, okay, no, that's food, that's not titties. Um so so I so I think I think oh she's free reign, but oh yeah, but I think the I think the I think that's not a creepy, but that's not food, that's titties. That was I mean opposite, yeah. But uh, but no, but it was like just super gorgeous, and I'm super interested to uh see like how this power how this magic system develops. And you know, I mean you know, and again, he's not like super likable, but I think that's on purpose. So I think it's gonna be interesting, like seeing his uh arc and seeing where uh every every everything goes. And they also introduced uh oh nope, that's a different anime. So no, that's so no, but yeah. Oh, and then my uh last suggestion is uh an anime called uh Magi, Labyrinth of Magic. And it's in its sequel to Kingdom of Magic. Like it's uh it's an anime based on the uh super famous short stories uh Arabian Knights. And it is like probably my favorite versions of all these characters, you know, including including the Disney classic. Um but like just the the sheer depth of the lore, the uh it's beautifully animated, and it's a wonderful uh magic system. The characters are super like uh like uh fuck, what's the main character's name again?
SPEAKER_06Alan. Alan.
SPEAKER_05It's Aladdin, okay. I always get him in the what's the blonde dude's name? Um I think um Simbeth. No, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. Is it Alibaba? Alibaba, yeah. Okay, I always always get him mixed up. But but yeah, he's probably like one of the like most likable protagonists I've ever seen, which is which is remarkable because he's also a horn dog. Yeah, he had a great he grew on me. But um, but but you know, people like tease. But uh they're very useful. Quite. But yeah, Magi's is so so it's just it's just so good. It's pace, it's paced wonderfully. It's pace amazing. Uh you know, may it like it is I think it comes off as a little slow at first for like a few people, but it is like is it really like revs you up for like what's going on and once it and once it hits, it's just come off slower.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because it came off slow at first to me. So I just haven't finished it, but I still I agree. Like it's a beautiful show. I've seen a lot of the offshoot series that came from it, like all of them are gorgeous and interesting. I just need to finish it.
SPEAKER_05Also, Sinbad is what like top five best best everything. That that man is everything. Oh, like he could literally do no wrong. He can't like like they like he was even when he was exactly he was in the middle of doing wrong, and I was like, Y'all fine with the thing. He can't do nothing, he needs to do that.
SPEAKER_01I got some wrong he can do. Sweet Jesus.
SPEAKER_04Sinbad is like in my book, maybe not maybe not Kazes, but in my book, Sinbad is like, if not on the same level, close to the same level as Gilgamesh. Uh in terms of doing no wrong.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, Gilgamesh does so much wrong. Yeah, yeah, no, yeah.
SPEAKER_05That's like that's definitely the opposite for me. I said, yeah, he definitely he he's uh he's a lot of wrong, but I love it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Whereas I'm not forgiving Gilgamesh, I appreciate him for it. Whereas whereas Sinbad, I I um is completely rose-colored glasses. I agree with everything he does.
SPEAKER_01I've seen Sinbad, I've seen the shit Sinbad has done, and like Gilgamesh is like, like, nah, Gilgamesh, you are you are fucked up full of shit. And Sinbad is like, oh baby.
SPEAKER_05Actually, actually, that comparison is really is really funny because the Sinbad show actually made me like him less. Uh because I found out he was like that from birth. And and I and I imagine I imagine him earning yeah this like station in life. And and he's just like yeah, he just popped out the vagina like amazing for no reason. I was like, okay, that's whatever. Whereas uh the Babylonia uh fate series definitely shown uh shown a different light on Gilgamesh and showed you where he came from, why he was like he was, why he makes a decision he does, and like and why he's pretty much a heartless bastard. And uh and it pretty like uh, you know, it doesn't forgive anything he does, but definitely like encapsulates and explains uh how uh how uh immortal Nortal being can uh you know be the way they are.
SPEAKER_04Is that it for Maggie?
SPEAKER_05Or Magi rather? Yeah, yeah, just both, yeah, both seasons. They need to pick it back up. They do.
SPEAKER_04All right. So those are our recommendations for anime that you can watch. I would love to go back down the list, but that was a very, very long one. I'm going to try really quick. So we had Yu Yu Haku Show, we had uh Castlevania, uh Kakaguru, uh Galactic Pretty Boy Stardriver, we had Death Note, uh we had uh oh, what else? Um, G Han, sorry. We show Kutensen, Jobless Reincarnation, uh Udo Camp. Uh did you what was the other ones yours?
SPEAKER_07Beav.
SPEAKER_03I'll finish off.
SPEAKER_04Look, One Piece, Sells at Work, uh, Cowboy Beaver Jobless Reincarnation of a Rim War of Zero, yeah, Jujuni Ito Collection, Land of Illustrious, Land of Lustrious, Doctor Stone, uh Zero, Junji Ito Collection. What were yours, Black McCoy?
SPEAKER_01Night is short, walk on girl, food wars, and Carolyn Tuesday.
SPEAKER_03Oh, and um, Graveyard of Fireflies. That was in the list. Thank you. If you wanted to the good old crypto.

SPEAKER_04Miss Skittles.
SPEAKER_07Ms. Skittles underscore cosplay on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. And I did upload a new TikTok video. Woo!
SPEAKER_042021. We started on white. Okay. Maybe maybe 2021 started today, the 17th. Let's let's start with that one. Uh also uh she uh uh had to step out with Sayone Cosplay um on what is it? Is it Sayone underscore cosplay on Instagram? Sayone cosplay on Facebook? Or did I get back to the yes. Okay, cool. Um, and then uh shampoo bracelets.
SPEAKER_08Um as a plug, just just because we forgot to mention it, Crunchyroll started their uh nominations for their anime awards. So uh both of your favorite anime. Just in case, you know what I'm saying? It was cool stuff up there, you know? Oh, the hardest category for me was the best fight scene. Um at Shampoo Breakers on Instagram.
SPEAKER_00I said Shami B wrong once more. Thank you on Twitter. Yeah, 7B87 uh at Twitter. I knew it was different.
SPEAKER_04Ooh, that edge child.
SPEAKER_05Oh, and you see Joe T S G.
SPEAKER_03Oh, um I got it. That something caught my attention. Um Joe uh Joe T S G on Insta. Nope, that's gone. Um just watch the animus people. That's all. The Black McCoy.
SPEAKER_01Um, the Black McCoy on Instagram and the Black McCoy Costco on Facebook. And if you if you all need to uh need some suggestions for your online providers, please feel free to DM us any DM any of us. Um we we have some solutions to your problem.
SPEAKER_04Let's let's let's anyway. So anyway, uh thank you everyone for listening. Uh please stay tuned for more of our episodes. We actually have a very phenomenal episode uh or series of episodes coming up in the uh between the end of January and to February. Um it has something to do with fighting and it has something to do with scenes, and I believe they're called fight scenes. But that I'm also also I'm gonna say. So thank you, Sayonara.
