Welcome once again to the Blurred Spectrum Podcast. We are back again with another episode for your viewing, maybe, or specifically listening pleasure on all the podcast providing platforms that you could potentially think of, except for like one, but you know, that's because it's really difficult to get on that. I'm sorry. Anyway, so what we are doing today, uh, this is our February 14th episode. Um, a lot of our panelists have a certain feeling about love. And is that they don't like it? Well, that's not true. They have no problem with love, it's Valentine's Day they have an issue with. Uh, so instead of talking specifically about Valentine's Day, they want to talk about something different. And I'll tell you that in a second. Because first, what we want to do is head to on over to our mailbag. Uh, as I've said on multiple episodes in the past, please visit theblurred spectrum at umbralstark.com and leave any um messages, uh inspiration, or add-ons to episodes, maybe have ideas for episodes that we can do in the future. So we're gonna read off some of our um wonderful letters from our esteemed listeners, starting with one we've gotten very recently, and uh it goes a little something like this. It says, uh, what's up? I started listening to the podcast and I love the topics. I heard the doctor say he played Smash Tournies and Zelda came up. I hit a big 20 last year, and a guy who went by Dr. Rod won with Zelda, and I think it's him. If it is, I'd like his advice on how to do well in tournies. I'm pretty good in group matches, but I never do the same in tournies. Also, do y'all ever have live events looking for the next episode? Signed by our listener, Cal. The doctor.

All right, so yes, it is me. The only doctor wild in competitive play, and definitely Zelda. Um I would say anyone can do tournaments, it just takes practice. And one thing I recommend first, um start playing 1v1s. So you say you play a lot of great group matches. I promise you, group matches are really good at making you feel strong, but a lot of the times, and you know, and you can learn things in group matches, but they're not the same as 1v1s. And a lot of times they deal with things like you know, politics and you know, alliances, and you know, you know, who can target two, and there's a whole other layer of psychological strategy in group matches that doesn't exist in 1v1s. So you definitely want to have to start playing 1v1s. Like that's probably the best way to really shore up your skill and your individual confidence. So, you know, there are lots of people who are really good in groups but aren't as good in 1v1s, and vice versa. But since tournaments are all you know 1v1 stuff, definitely start playing those. Also, find people you can play with. That's the other thing. Um so especially now, since almost all the tournaments are online. Online play is a really good way to you know meet new people that you can practice with and whatnot, especially some of the groups. Smash's tournament function online isn't actually useful for a few reasons, but some of their um online rooms are great for just like setting up matches you can practice with. Um and that may or may not be your friends. Like I know my tournament stuff is usually pretty separate from when I play with friends. I view those as two separate arenas. And that works well for me for a few different reasons, but you know, you definitely want to find places where you can really start to practice and refine your skill and whatnot. And also don't get discouraged. Um, I've you know, I'm pretty sure that tournaments overall can seem really daunting, and you know, they are, but I promise you, like it just takes a lot of practice. And you know, I do also know that tournaments, both tournaments and outside of tournaments, sometimes you deal with a lot of bullshit um and whatnot. And you know, it's sometimes you'll get some hate and all that stuff, and that can be a little bit discouraging, but just got to work through it. Like the ones I always get are like two options of spectrum. Um, if I'm winning or something, it's either, oh well, you know, she's you know, she's a cheap character anyway, or no one plays her anyway. It's one of those two things, you know. So if you know it's almost like, ah, it's irritating, but you know, you work past stuff like that. And you do have to learn somewhat to adapt to that in tournament settings. Um, and you know, you you will lose a lot before you win. So that's the other thing. Um I you know, I think that's the main reason why with tournament settings, um, a lot of people who are really like otherwise confident sometimes struggle in tournaments because tournaments are so humbling. Even really good players get stomped repeatedly because that's how you eventually get better. I think I got like embarrassed in so many locals before I won even one. And then, you know, once you win one, you start getting into you know slightly bigger tournaments and you know started doing better in those. But I had to lose a lot before I won. And anyone who's ever been good at Smash has had to lose a lot before they won. So don't be discouraged, you know, and just keep at it. And again, like anyone can do well, it's just a matter of how much you're willing to invest and you know who you surround yourself with that supports that growth as well. So, yeah, I promise you, you can do great. Um, sushi, I guess do you want to handle the second part of that question about live events? I'm pretty sure they're thinking in like the um like the Pokemon and Digimon event.

Yep, I was gonna jump in and say, so we have had um uh the as uh the doctor said, the Pokemon versus Digimon episode. Uh, we do plan on having more live events. Uh that was very enjoyable, I think, for all of our panelists, as well as the uh live audience that was uh watching in the comments on both Instagram and YouTube. Uh so we do plan on having another one in the next two months, I believe. Um, what the topic will be, I am not allowed to talk about it. Why? Because we don't have one yet. So if you would like to suggest, that's not true. We actually have like six different topics, so we'll see which ones we pick. It says, hey everyone, I enjoyed the banter overall and was elated to listen to everyone's positive cosplay experiences. As a cosplayer novice who had it to explain to everyone last BlurCon who Craig from the Creek was, I took solace in being able to assume the handler role for a friend. I didn't know it had a name until this episode, referring specifically to our um our cosplay mental health episode, if I'm not wrong. Consent and meekness keeps me from taking many photos. But one unforgettable experience was when the guardian or an ironheart play cosplayer wanted to know where pictures of the cosplay were going. I was so lost. But maybe she thought I was pressed in my Ness outfit. But again, meek, so I usually soak in the vibes without flicks. Can't wait until another episode or until next week. And this is from uh Terrence, aka TJ D E uh TJ Detweiler. Um right, uh, does uh let me go ahead and read his second message um a little bit more detailed with this one. This is another incredible episode in all caps, or actually in bold letters. I will say points were made and titles that almost left my mind were finally recounted by the panel. And for that I thank you. I will not occur the wrath of Skittles because I'm on the right side of history. I grew up on Enix and Square titles, respectively. My take on a good remake, and this was for our remakes um redo's uh episode that we did last year, um, my take on a good remake would include uh co-e titles like Dynasty Warriors, uh, as each part is essentially retelling the same history over and over, adding newer characters and perspectives to each game. My dream game for this studio would be if they were to do a Bleach game with the same content concepts taking place in Soul Society, Quake Mundo, and the Soul King's Palace. The bad slash redeemable to me would be Pokemon. Don't get me wrong, there are kids in high school now whose parents are Pokemon trainers, retired or otherwise. It has the range. I want it to grow in so many ways, even if we have events surrounded the uh surrounding the TM and HM process where you are training with your Pokemon to improve their critical hit ratio or just anything. I hope they I hope they find the wrist that works for them. A remake I wish would happen is X-Men Legends. I am so for that. Me just talking real quick. Um DC Universe Online, DC Universe Online, really sorry, uh DC Universe Online, even Mystic Quests in 3D would kill on a new console. Why aren't there more WarioWare games? Looking at you, Nintendo Switch. Again, love the vibe. Please don't stop making episode. A topic suggestion is an abridged anime a generous dub, or is it the Menace Studios make them out to be? Better yet, what's the greatest anime opener and why is it Smilebomb? So I love this letter. I love both letters, but I love this letter, but we'll let the Black McCoy give a response to it.

Um depending on Smilebom is amazing. Um however, um Departure from Hunter Like Thunder still has a very special place in my heart. Um as far as like the the the first letter, like um being a cosplay handler is handler is actually, in my personal opinion, one of the not even just a humbling role, but one of the best roles anyone could have at a con. Um partly because it is so low, it's so low impact that you don't tire yourself out from being in cosplay all day. But um one of the things that I would like to suggest when it comes to like if someone doesn't know what your cosplay is, um it okay, it happens a lot. Like even the first time I cosplayed beast, I was confused for a nabbi from avatar so many times. Right. That's because like I went for like I went, it was during it was summertime and I went very like fur-like, so I would like I didn't use a lot of furs, so I just looked blue and beast-like in the face, but I didn't look like a navi either. So it was um, so my I I don't really have an answer for that, just to kind of kind of roll with it. Um and just you know, kindly explain, like explain who what character you are, or just say kindly.

Um using some using like a either a prop or a very specific outfit from those shows would be really helpful.

Uh so my couple, and it's not really one couple as much as it is one person with two romantic pairings, whatnot, that get um you know talk about a lot in the fandom, and there's some canonicity to it to an extent, but um, yeah, I think they're both problematic for the for similar reasons. That is Final Fantasy VII Cloud with Tifa and Erith. The big debate, you know, always the big shipping is oh, well, what's the what's the More you know, better pairing is it cloud and Air or Cloud and Kifa. And I think they both have some significant issues that you know I'll get into. So, you know, if we I'm playing FF7, and I it's been out for more than 20 years, and I don't think this is really a spoiler, but cloud's whole identity is like basically the solution he's created modeled off of someone else. So, and that someone else was Aerith's previous boyfriend Zach. Now, when Erith gets with Cloud, the issue there is she's in part like there's some transparency going on where a lot of what you know she likes about Zach, she's putting onto Cloud. And Cloud is maintaining this kind of delusion that still exists. So we talk about this gets framed as like, oh, well, that was supposed to be like cloud's once repairing, but then you know she gets killed, and that can't happen. But no, it was all built pretty much on lies and act, you know, lies and active deceptions, and essentially it's the idea of like someone who this person reminds me of my ex. And so they're a lot like my ex, and that's kind of why I like them. But this person's also actively pretending to be my ex, even though it's kind of subconscious, but we don't know how much of it is conscious, and it's it's all a mess, it's a mess all around with them.

Yeah. Now, with Tifa, it's somewhat worse than that. With Eric, we don't know how much of it she knows is false, you know, because Cloud doesn't really confess anything to her at any point. And it's kind of vague how much she knows. Well, oh well, this sounds a lot like we say because we're like Zach used to do what Zach was, and it's a little more vague. Tifa knows everything Cloud says about that is bullshit from the very beginning. She's completely aware of it is false, and she avoids the shit out of it, even when she has opportunities to correct some things pretty early on. But she doesn't actually start to correct it until essentially the point where like much later, very late in the game where cloud is dying and his memories have to be restructured, and she's like, well, no, you know, you didn't do this, this is what actually happened. But she let that lie run for so long and she did not challenge it. You know, and this is something that you know it's it's a level of enabling deceit that it's just I I don't see how that scene is a good pairing, really. Like it just isn't, you know. And to be fair, like you know, cloud is never officially in a relationship with either of them, but you know, there's clearly there is some canon you know, feelings that get brought up and whatnot, and like they're kind of the two major date options that you know you can choose at one point in the game. And in the fandom, this gets brought up a lot as oh, you know, cloud versus an Air versus Cloud and Tifa. Um, but yeah, I don't think they're either good choices at all. Like it's just it's a whole lesson in deceit and lies, and you know, enabling lies to keep someone you want to be with. And that's pretty much what it comes down to. Um so so yeah, those are my ancient couples or thruple.

Uh I I absolutely agree with all of that because that when whenever people ship any of it, I just be like, how like how like Tifa literally sat up here and watched this man just you know, like fake memory shot the hell and didn't say nothing. Like we still gotta go on these missions, we still gotta do this, dah. I'm a mercenary, la la. And it's like, no, nigga, no, but but she didn't say nothing, she didn't say nothing the whole time, which is crazy to me. I get like like the whole time Cloud thing, like they used to be like real good friends or some shit, and they was never even like friends like that, they just grew up in the same neighborhood or whatever. Like, and I'm just like, this dude wasn't even like your friend like that for you to be protecting his feelings. Like, tell this man he not who he thinks he is. Like, I don't understand. Like, y'all y'all think they would be cute together? Like, no, she lying, he he don't know who the fuck he is. And Aries, don't even get me started on Air. I don't even like Aerith, like, like she's cute or whatever, but she's she's way too much. And yes, you're exactly right. She's she saw um qualities uh in her old ex and and and was like, oh, I think I might like cloud. Ooh, I'm gonna be all looking after him. Ooh, like cloud this, ooh, cloud that. Not and and as to me, it's like, how do you not realize this nigga literally telling you that his whole story is based off of your ex-boyfriend? How well did you know your ex-boyfriend? Because obviously, like people struggle right now, like you you didn't put two and two together, like, wait, he sound like he sounded like my friend. Like, what like it's just terrible all the way around.

Oh, not you know, not all together uh you know, this disagreeing with with the doctor's uh, you know, uh results, but but but there is there's a little bit more uh nuance there. So so Eric Cloud's entire dynamic is that Eric sees through his bullshit. She does she she doesn't she doesn't she doesn't think he's super cool. Multiple times in the in the regular game, she uh she she she she says something along the along the lines of I can't wait to meet the real you like it's that that that's that's not to say that she like you know secretly knows the real clout, but but their relationship uh as it is now works because because he's he's put he's thrusting to afford this facade and she's pushing it aside saying nigga stop playing. And that's that's you know that's that's generally like her thing. She's she's unfazed by by the whole like oh I'm a super secret soldier, you you know, not you know, and probably because she has she has experience with that. But you know, but but both of the you know I I think both of them are pushed forward as potential batches for him because they don't, you know, they're not, you know, Tifa knows knows because she was there, and and Erif is like, nah nigga, I was you know, I was with the real thing. I don't I don't know this what this is, but you ain't it. Uh not not to mention that you know this this airs whole you know she she's kind of pushed off as kind of you know uh you know really wise and mature and just kind of you know you know saying things that other people needed. And and and you know, and and also every every relationship may gotta be like for life. Some relationships are just for a season, like Tifa put this nigga psyche back together. That is obviously what the fuck this nigga needed because what nobody else gonna be there to do that. Also, is as far as uh like as far as like breaking down his breaking down his lie when it even even is in certain circumstances with like dementia and other like when people are dealing with like major delusions, you don't it's not always safe to break to break down like the the personality of someone set up for especially because you don't have a backup one ready for them, you don't know what they're about to do or what they're about to decide into after you uh force the truth. Is that the wrong uh so and and again multiple times in the game, uh cloud cloud cloud is cloud is putting cloud is telling you what he's been through and what he did, and and they will Tifa will literally have an ellipses, like uh mm. We like mm, I was there, but uh but go oh but go but go on um also okay uh also also also cloud did roll up and save and save her himself. He beat Separov, he stabbed that nigga and threw him into the live stream personally. That so to so it's not like Tifa, like you know, it's like T Tifa was like stabbed, slashed on the ground, and and and and cloud ran past her and pretty much say you know solved the situation. So it's not like everything is in his head and he didn't he doesn't remember he did that, but that you know that is that is what occurred.

Yeah, no, I definitely agree, especially with the you know, like all the stuff around like the safety, with you know you can't just immediately break down the delusions and whatnot, and that you know, Cloud did a lot of you know really important things, you know, when it came to you know, he actually did save her. Um I think that's still, you know, I think in particular the whole like safety issue and whatnot, among some other things, that's a reason why they would be a terrible pairing as opposed to a good one. You know, but the idea is, yeah, like she you know, she does have a really important way of putting a psyche together and whatnot, and that is what he needed. Um, it is not a good foundation for a relationship. You know, it's not what we need. You know, I think it's a good narrative overall, and it is a really interesting and good storyline, you know. As far as looking at it as just a good relationship, oh no.

Uh now, when uh Kagome ended up falling into the bone eater's well and finding her way back into the feudal era of Japan, she ran into uh this half demon that was pierced to a tree via an arrow, which she pulled out due to you know circumstance because of Lady Centipede. Um, but as I digress, um, they begin their love story of uh, well, I'm sorry, one-sided love story of no one-sided attraction. Um half attraction, half somebody that you used to know. So what had happened was it was doomed from the start, uh, because at no even till now, we were really not sure if you are watching uh uh uh um Yasha Hime, uh, we we're not even sure if they mended their situation, although they are quote unquote together, we can't say married, uh, we know that they have had offspring, a daughter. It doesn't really tell us whether or not he's really gotten over it. Because even to the end of the initial Inuyasha anime, to the final arc where Naraku came back once again, uh, he was still fiending on some Kikyo. Um, at one on numerous occasions did he call Kagomi by Kikyo's name. On numerous occasions, did Kikyo show up and Inuyasha left Kagomi almost to die? On numerous occasions, did because Inuyasha was more focused, he was, I believe he was in a Genju on multiple occasions, and he was fiending so hard on Kikyo, Kagomi almost lost her soul back into the a formalized uh uh uh a clay version of Kikyo's body. Um, how many times did Kikyo show up? I one of the things that always like jogs my memory is a situation where if you remember the I forget her name, the but it was a mountain witch who uh was trying to recreate Kikio. She actually did. She succeeded in recreating Kikyo's body by taking the bones and the dust and the mud from the earth from where she was buried. She infused different herbs and different demon parts, and then she added um uh I think it was a shard of the Shikone jewel, um, and was able to, and a part, oh there it is, a part of Kagome's soul once she had her soaking in them in those waters and stuff, and infuse that into this new body for Kikyo. Thus began the recreation of the initial body of Kikyo, who traveled the world trying to figure out one, why she was alive, and then two, it seemed like she was there just to just just to fuck with Inyasha. Because every time we came up on like every five episodes, this new Kikyo would show up and just say, Why are you here? Why do you still love me? Who is this witch? Like, I'm like, Kikio, what are you doing? Just go someplace. But she would show up, and Iasha would forget about Kagome, chase after her. If there was ever a time to use a sit command, you would think it's when he's running from her to go find Kikyo, but no, you know what ways came back so many times.

She's when she started, she was about uh I think she was a 10th grader because she was preparing for the university exams and she had like a lot of studying to do. She was probably a 10th or 11th grader and she was getting ready to leave high school. So she was a high schooler when she first met Inyasha. So she wasn't young, but Inyasha's hundreds of years old. I mean, if you really want to do that, right? Um but um the main thing about it is the fact that she met him once. She assumably didn't like him when she first met him, but as time went on, she found reasons to like him, kind of the same Serena syndrome, if I would say, where you know, you obviously hated him at first, like you don't just put sit commands on a dude multiple times and like and you just like this dude, it doesn't make sense.

And the worst part about it is that they retconned their entire the entire way they met in the first place because Storm was they met when Storm originally saved Black Panther, but then they retconned it and made Black Panther save Storm for this new like relationship storyline that they were building. And T'Challa proposed to her after they had been separated for like years, and so which also didn't make sense, and because most of their relationship it so they spent most of their marriage on separate missions, so they spent a lot of time apart, and T'Challa annulled their marriage while Storm was away, and she only found out when she came back and he asked her to leave, and they got into a whole physical altercation, and I don't care why the fuck they fought, that shit's not a good example, and it's not healthy at all. All right, so quick quick insert that that was the funniest fucking conversation because because like Stormlight walked in the room, and Black Panther was like, Yo, I'm I'm sorry to inform you that that the hot you know the high priest of our nation has a null our marriage, and like and she was like sitting there stuck for a second, and she was like, nigga, you the high priest, and then this guy shrugs that's you absolutely wasn't it yes absolutely, but yeah, that the their entire relationship was contrived for the most empty reasons, and the the the way in which they developed their relationship didn't even didn't even contribute much to them as much to the individual characters, and honestly, overall, Monica Lynn was a much better partner for T'Challa than Storm ever was. Um, and if for those of you who don't know who Monica Lynn was, um I advocate for Monica Lynn whenever I talk about this. And Monica Lynn, she is uh she was a singer from Georgia that um moved to New York. Um, and that's where she met Black Panther because T'Challa saved her from like this violent racist, um like um, I think it's like racist group called the Sons of the Serpent. Um, and then they started they started a long ass relationship. Like Black Panther was legitimately happy with her and in love with her, and she was a regular ass civilian. It was like when you see um Superman with Lois Lane, like that's the kind of it was a very genuine, loving, full relationship, and not only that, like she stayed with him in the palace uh in Wakanda for a minute, and he also stayed with her with her family in Georgia for a while, and they were engaged, and the only reason that they didn't end up getting married is because T'Challa broke off the engagement for what I think to be the stupidest reason ever. And the reason was because so uh they broke he broke off the engagement, and you know, they didn't see each other for a while, and after he got engaged to Storm, she found out she was devastated, like she was really hurt, but she ended up getting kidnapped, and then like this whole other shit happened, and he ended up confessing to her that he called off the engagement because his ultimate future self was dying of a brain aneurysm, and uh thinking that this was his future or knowing that it was his future, he decided not to tie her down to a man who allegedly had quote unquote no future. And uh even then I think he was still deeply in love with her because she was about she was she eventually died of um terminal cancer, but he also tried to save her by like getting a heart-shaped herb to give to her so she could have the vitality and shit that comes with it. Um yeah, so T'Challa and Storm are my ancient couple for all those reasons, and Monica Lim was way better for T'Challa.
