Welcome back, everyone, to the Blurred Spectrum Podcast. We are here today with our panelists to discuss one of the most influent, in my opinion, or our opinions, well, my opinions. I don't know if everybody else will be the same way. Anyway, in my opinion, one of the most influential blocks of time to our adolescent, teenage, and youth uh uh Spring Review? Spring Spring Review time frames. And that is Toonami. Welcome to our Toonami retrospective episode. We have some of our panelists dripping in cosplay. Uh, we have some of our panelists giving some homages and nods to some of their uh uh Toonami representations. So we're gonna ask a couple questions to our panelists, get a little feel for what they feel, and maybe you can give us your feedback on social media. But first, I'm going to introduce our panelists, starting with myself, Suchino Shogun. Also, we have Kaze Shinryu. Here we are, we have Ms. Skittles, we have Sayone, we have The Doctor.
SPEAKER_00What's good?
SPEAKER_05We have Shampoo Bracelets. We have two panelists that are joining us today to give us their interpretation of the Tunami faithful. We have Lolo.
SPEAKER_07Black anime characters have lips. What's up?
SPEAKER_05And we have Aurora. So we're gonna go first by just breaking down what is Tunami for those who may be listening to this who are maybe uh, I don't know, older than most of us, or maybe younger than most of us. Maybe you missed out on the turn of the century. Maybe you missed out on when Cartoon Network really mattered. Maybe you missed out on, you know, coming home from school, watching that two to four hour block, then staying up a little later, waking up to a couple of random commercials, and then jumping into any outside. Maybe you didn't catch all of that, but we're going to explain it to you. Toonami is a block of TV shows, animated shows, cartoons that came on between uh the late 90s and pretty much now. Tunami is actually still going on. Uh, the host was by the name of Modoc at first, but then it slowly morphed into this uh cyborg or this android by the name of Tom. Tom, over the years, uh risked his life to protect those things that were important to us, our TV shows and our entertainment. He was he was attacked by a muck-like space format, uh life form. He was uh thrown into a spieling uh spinning sun. Uh the ship blew up and he still made sure our shows came on. Tom was the GOAT. Make sure we were entertained every time we came home from school. So when WB Kids and Fox Kids was it was letting you down, where did you get to turn to? You turned to Toonami on Cartoon Network. So now that you have a little bit of a touch on what Toonami is, let's ask some of our panelists what exactly is Toonami to them, as well as who are they cosplaying or representing today? And we're going to start with the lovely Sayune cosplay.
SPEAKER_11Hello everyone. So Toonami to me was an introduction to um non-American cartoons, I would say. It touched base on a lot of animation from Japan. So it introduced me to anime. Um, and for me, I was addicted to Sailor Moon. That was my first go-to anime. I would run off the school bus at 3.58, track down to that door, because I know at four o'clock it was going to be on. So um that was my introduction. And I was that was back in 1997, I would believe 1997. And um for but my secondary, my OG favorite was reboot. And that was uh a very um, it was right when there was like computer graphics, uh, before you see all the Pixar, it was like the computer graphics, um, you know, kind of like the osmosis drones and cells at work inside of a computer, uh, so to speak. So uh, you know, you had your megabyte, you had your hexadecimal, and it wasn't until I was older, I'm like, oh wow, mainframe that actually is a part of a computer. And you had uh these different people that were actually in the workings of a computer that were trying to fight viruses when you know the user, which are actually humans, you know, the user is you know is going to play a game. It had something called incoming game, incoming game. And you had, you know, dot, and I'm dot, cosplaying as dot. You had Enzo, who is her brother, and then you have Bob. Bob was like the protagonist, he was the savior, and then you had um his arch nemesis, hexadecimal, and megabyte. So they were viruses um that he always wanted to fight and and but always had kind of like a weird love-hate relationship with hexadecimal as well. So um, you know, it was very interesting. It was something that was very different from what I was used to seeing as a kid. You saw these, you know, computer graphics, 3D images, and and uh, you know, you wanted to kind of fight with them because you know that if the the computer, if the computer lost, there was an entire destruction in that particular area. Like, you know, that part was like an apocalypse because the computer lost and the user won. It was just a very interesting dynamic at that time. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it, even to this day. Um maybe sword art online, sword art online probably is the is a I don't know, maybe a closed representation of you know somebody trying to fight in a game, but nothing it was a classic for me. And um also you you know that the the people that are in the game are black. Like that, everybody knew Dot was black.
SPEAKER_08Bob had dreads.
SPEAKER_11You know what I'm saying? Bob had dreads, Dot was black, she had lipsties and ads. Like, come on now. So it was just it was just cool. Um, you know, seeing that, you know, and you can have different representation without, you know, with having different skin colors that are not normal, like blue, but you know she was a sister. So um for me, it was just a very iconic, uh, you know, and we're all in our 30s, you know, and and something that can latch on to us and that can be something a part of our childhood, and then just go into our adulthood and we still have a love for it. It just really tells you how special tsunami was. It was something that you look forward to that you just couldn't wait to see. And it was an everyday thing, you know, after school program that you just really look forward to. So for me, it was just a part of my childhood and it'll always be there, a huge part of my life. So yeah.
SPEAKER_07Awesome. Excuse me. Uh Sayone, uh, forgive me. Uh, what are your pronouns? She. She she's sorry. I just wanted to, you know, properly give uh Sayone her flowers because she is decked out in like the blue skin. She's got the glasses, she's got the reboot badge, like she like she has like the whole like look put together uh for y'all. Like she really went went all out for this for this episode. So yeah, you did that.
SPEAKER_08Thank you. Thank you so much.
SPEAKER_05And I definitely have to like one, I agree, Lolo. She's she's doing it up. I also have to agree with what she said about reboot, like reboot for me as a person who works in IT and with computers, I didn't appreciate it back then, to be completely honest. I always I always love computers, but it wasn't until I got to the age of understanding exactly how the inside of computer works that I was like, yo, they're telling some truths. Like there's like actual things going on. Like, and I would liken it to Cells at Work, where you're enjoying the storyline of this anime, but they're also teaching you about the different parts of the body. But with reboot, if you really pay attention to how Fong was a part of the CPU inside of the main, inside of mainframe this computer, how uh the um the games, when the games would delete the different parts of the city because of the uh heroes or the avatars losing, it was because the same data on the RAM was being removed. So it's actually delete, like it's it's trippy when you like think back on it. It's like, yo, yes, you taught me something. I learned something back when I was a kid. It was amazing. But yes, yes, please give both Sayune and uh got their flowers. Phenomenal. Phenomenal.
SPEAKER_11Thank you.
SPEAKER_05Uh so um also let's go ahead and try uh moving over to shampoo bracelets.
SPEAKER_02How am I supposed to follow that up? Like she like we pretty much got the same beginning, like you know, mine started with Sailor Moon, which I have my Sailor Moon shirt on today, got my hair and my pigtails and everything, you know what I'm saying? Um Sailor Moon was my introduction to anime pretty much, and reboot followed. Now I'm just like saying that, like I love Sailor Moon, but I love Reboot more. And it was it took a while to even find reboot anywhere else. Like, you know, after it went off the air, it was like, damn, where can I find this? Even with Sailor Moon, it took a minute for them to actually start releasing the DVDs and put them in English. Because at that time, I was not about trying to read any type of subtitles, to be honest with you. Um, and plus our kids watch Sailor Moon now, so we're gonna have to put it in English. Um, we haven't turned them on the reboot yet, only because I don't think they would like grasp the concept of it. Because you figure just like Tushi said, when we were kids, we weren't grasping that they were teaching us about the inside of a computer until like way later. Um, but those were my two favorites. Um, I also remember in later years when Tsunami went at more of a nighttime Dragon Ball Z was on. So I watched that. Um, and that was my introduction. Those three sort of shows, Sailor Moon, Reboot, and Dragon Ball Z were my three shows that I watched.
SPEAKER_01Even before Tsunami, like Cartoon Network really introduced me to all the anime I watched with like Vampire 100D and everything like that. So um it was when Tunami first came out, that's where they started doing like the morning runs with reboot, you know, all those shows, Twat casts and everything like that. It was like Tunami was like it was tunami and it was Fox with Kids. That was the two that like really introduced me. Like Tsunami was first, and then Fox and Kids started doing their thing, and tsunami was like, well, fuck y'all, we're gonna move to a midnight run. So instead of just doing it on like Saturday nights, you know, we're gonna be Saturday mornings and stuff, we just gonna move to like a midnight run now. And that's when I started learning about like really getting into the animal bag, like um, like Namo said Sailor Moon or uh Yu Yu Hagashu, it introduced me to that. And it also introduced me to uh, so she's wearing the cosplay now, Tinchi Muyo and the whole Tinchi series, like all the Tinchi Muyo, Tenshi in Tokyo. Um, I think it was what, Tinchi Universe or something like that? It was one of those like three different series, and it was um I loved everything. Like I would find myself, that was what started me to stop sleeping, was watching, like watching two dogs at night. Yeah, what is that? It was like watching that at night, and like just watching all the shows go through to like three o'clock in the morning, like from the midnight to three o'clock in the morning. You start with your Dragon Ball and then you move on, you're like your Yu-Yu-HACK Show Sailor Mood or whatever else they may have in that block. So um, I and then also the fact that they started giving Tom himself a story of Zone as Tom went on, which was really cool to watch, like how he was progressing and evolving and stuff. He went from a little short fat Tom to the tall sleep joint that looked like he'll beat your ass. It was it was really, I really enjoyed that. And then the music that introduced me to lo fi, like in fact, I'm gonna think about Chudami messed my life up.
SPEAKER_07Auto commercials with the auto commercials and stuff.
SPEAKER_01It was great. Yeah, that was great. That was that was really, yeah. Like I say, I I have a special place in my heart. And it hurts me when they try to bring it back because they don't bring it back the same, but I always give it a shot because Chudabi, that was that was that shit. Literally.
SPEAKER_05Hopefully we'll we'll talk about the uh the reboots of reboots of uh uh our Toonami faithful. But since you talked about Tenchi, let's go ahead and move over to Ryoko. I mean Miss Skittles.
SPEAKER_10So Toonami. Uh um, so I actually I so Sailor Moon was my first anime, but I saw Sailor Moon before Toonami. Um it was like early morning cartoon that I used to watch at uh my my babysitter's house. So it used to come on after bananas and pajamas. Taking it back.
SPEAKER_02No, for real, you're about to date us for real.
SPEAKER_07So big ass bananas.
SPEAKER_10So yeah, I I started, I I think I got on tsunami, I want to say late 90s. Uh it started after school, um, you know, with Reboot and Sailor Moon was on there. So it was like, ooh, what is like what is this? Like this got my type of stuff on it. So so yeah, why uh late 90s and early 2000s, and I think the early 2000s was when I started being on the the the late night shit. Um and that's that's when I started seeing like the real, like the real stuff. Like, and I was like, oh, oh, like they got all like all of the anime because after Sailor Moon, the only way I was finding anime was on VHS tapes, like in the Blockbuster somewhere, like in the foreign aisle. Um so yeah, um to Nami, it was just like it introduced me to a a lot of animes um that that that I just didn't know was out there outside of you know Blockbuster and Sailor Moon. So it was just like, oh, like not only not only do I I don't have to go to Blockbuster and rent this VHS tape or whatever, whatever, but now I got like I got it or I got it after school, I got it on the late night when I was supposed to be asleep. Like I had a TV in my room, so it was like, oh my like my parents don't even gotta know.
SPEAKER_07And TV TV in your room, are you fancy?
SPEAKER_10Right, real fancy. I had the uh the the big back, the big back booty joke. So so yeah, I will I will watch Tsunami like early morning, and that's when that's when I started, you know, watching stuff like Tenchi and Um Ghost in the Shell and uh Bebop, you know, like all of those uh amazing animes, and I just like oh my god, like this, this is life. Like and I oh so I chose Ryoko because um outside of outside of Sailor Moon, I didn't see a lot of anime with with strong female uh protagonists. So Tinchi, first of all, I I don't I ain't never seen no shit like Tinchi was my it was my my first harem harem anime and I was just like this is a gig all the girls like but how like I was just trying to understand how and basic as hell too but out of all of the women that was in love with this man, uh Ryoko is my favorite, she's uh strong, and I've said this on you know podcasts before, like I'm I'm drawn to fire elementals, um just uh just her backstory of you know, just like being like a space uh shit. I don't forgot. Yeah, like she was just to me, she was the strongest, she was the loudest. She never hesitate like to let Tenshi know like he can get that business. Like she was my favorite overall, like and I it's just like, oh my god, like uh, you know, outside of uh her and uh major from Ghost in the Shell, like I was just like, oh, like there are other you know female anime characters that you know aren't just you know like I don't know, like damsel in distress, I don't know, but you know, so so Ryoko was was definitely one of my my favorite um getting into anime. Um but yeah tsunami tsunami started me ultimately started the the full journey into to my anime lifestyle because I mean I was I was a blurred before always, but tsunami opened me up to the different genres that that anime includes in it, and it wasn't just you know uh Sailor Moon, um which is showju. So you know that's now I'm I'm I'm really a shona head, so so and I think that that can be attributed to to Nami, just all of the different, you know, shows that I that I watch, like um Outlaw Star and Tri Gun and things like that. It was just like, oh, like this is my shit. Like, yeah.
SPEAKER_07And thank you for giving us this cosplay. It's beautiful.
SPEAKER_10Right. No, it's a it was a struggle. It really actually, this wasn't a struggle, it was the wig that was a struggle because I was going for uh Ryoko uh from Tenchi Buyo. Uh but I end up with AI Ten Buyo Ryoko because I don't know how to style wigs, and this is what this is what it was about to do. Like this is it, because that's fight, that spike, uh that spike wig styling. I don't know how they got the patience for that.
SPEAKER_11I don't know either, but yo, your wig though, honey, honey, like your edges laid though, like hello stiff wear, stiff wear. Right. That's right, that's right.
SPEAKER_05Phenomenal, Miss Skittles. Like, I don't think anybody could say anything more than you are phenomenal with your Ryoko cosplay today.
SPEAKER_08Thank you. Thank you.
SPEAKER_05You gotta start to your photos, shoot, and post that joint everywhere.
SPEAKER_11So yeah, I do afterwards. I was I was like screaming when I saw Miss Skittles uh cosplay of Ryoko. I was like literally like screaming. Like I almost cried because like Ryoko is like my dream cosplay. So to see another blurred do that, and then a blur who I'm I'm just so cool with, I was I wanted to like cry. I was like, don't you say that shit? I was like losing my mind. So thank you for this.
SPEAKER_08Thank you guys.
SPEAKER_05Let's give the opportunity to one of our uh guest panelists to throw it over to Miss Aurora.
SPEAKER_04Tunami was for me, I think an actual physical escape because Tunami, I wasn't introduced to anime through Tunami. So if I'm being honest in like all the forms of how anime is comes, I was introduced through anime through comics for my stepfather and video games initially. Um, but I the first anime that I got whiff of that was that I wasn't supposed to see, it was like was one that was one of those like tentacle, and it's tragic because I'm a child in evolve in Japanese on a VHS. It was one of them tentacle ones, and the tentacle dude smashed a girl, and the dude smashed a girl, and it was just a weird story that I just had to figure out watching without subtitles in Japanese. Um, but also uh cutie honey, which it came first to Sailor Moon low key. So um, if you know, you know, but like and I'm a diehard Sailor Moon fan. My Sailor Neptune is my favorite scout, and I'm like, I'm trying so hard to find other people so we can do a full-on Sailor Scout cosplay. We got some people because I want to do it so bad and slay, and I want everybody down, let me exchange numbers. I want everybody, I want to do it. Let me make Sailor Mars. Let me be television, take me with you. Yes, I'm here for it. Um, and so I when I got to learning about tsunami, because initially, remembering early on, initially tsunami came on in the middle of the day first, or in the early afternoon, or excuse me, late afternoon, like after school hours. So then you got your Halo Moon and Dragon Ball Z's and all of that stuff. It was like stuff that was appropriate for kids, but also like young teenagers.
SPEAKER_05The edited versions of all the stuff we technically shouldn't have watched, but it was right.
SPEAKER_04Right, exactly, exactly. So then when I got to Tsunami late night, it was kind of like a stumble upon because as a kid and uh growing up in Philly and uh being the oldest of three at that time, I I fell asleep early. I was I had a lot of responsibility. Both parents were out of the household working, whatever have you. So I was always in charge of watching my siblings. So by the time the night came, I would knock out. But when I wake up, it'd be 11, 12 in the morning. And I would go to look, I'd I'd take my ass downstairs with on television, and I'm like, oh, what's this? And I just and I would just start watching them and it and it tsunami single-handedly helped curate what animes I fuck with and what type of animes I don't. Legitimately. And like, because like while I I Tenshulyo was adorable, I got I couldn't handle the trope of all these women falling over a nigga. That shit used to blow the fucking, especially when it was like, girl, but you got Salamon over here, and ain't nobody just damn pressed about over one nigga, everybody ain't losing their mind over this one man, like, and it got annoying because then I I think I got reintroduced to that narrative with um was it Rosario Vampire.
SPEAKER_11I think a com a comic could kill is the same way as well.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and it's it was just like I I and not to say that the anime itself was bad, but that trope was so irritating, even for me as a pre-transition, like just young little boy, like that shit was the fuck irritating. So I like I got over it, and then the the romanticism around Inuyasha and Kagome and how some for some reason that narrated that narrative kept us like so on edge of like bruh, they don't get together. Right at some fucking point, y'all are killing me. Like, I feel like I didn't care anything else about the rest of the storylines except the fact that when the fuck are they gonna get together? Yeah, I'd like I get that they're they're doing they're they're doing shit, they're biting that demons, and you know, they got some interpersonal shit going on. But girl, if they don't get together and quit playing, I'll be over it. So yeah, like I just it really set the tone for a lot of anime that I would ultimately come to as an adult in love. And one of the animes that stuck out the most that I'm in love with, that I'm a diehard fan of all iterations, full nine, is Ghost in the Shell. Boom, and my personal month, who first of all, because I seen Ghost of the Shell and Theaters when it first originally came out, so I'm a true fan fan. And like it don't get the respect it deserves, especially for the way it impacted American culture and American films to help create films like The Matrix and for the Wikowski sisters to come up with that whole diaspora of like, like, bruh, y'all don't give Ghost of the Shell the credit is due. And so, like, even when they went to do the live action, I got irritated because it felt like people were just sticking up for it and standing up for it based off of the prejudice around the casting when it was just like, but bruh, y'all didn't give this credit that it deserved at all. The most creditable, in my personal opinion, in the 90s, like the most credible anime that transcended that was always consistently talked about was Akira. And don't get me wrong, which is a phenomenal anime, I love love it, but I just obviously I love Ghost and Shell more. And the fact that this female protagonist, who in turn wasn't, in my in my opinion, and even like reading and understanding, who in turn actually isn't even female at all, technically, she's non-binary, she has no gender, she is a gender in its entirety. She is nothing but a mental construct fixation brought to physical manifest through the body of a woman that she chose because she didn't have to choose it, and like that dialogue and stuff is already addressed early on, and I loved it so much, and like it gave me everything.
SPEAKER_05That was phenomenal.
SPEAKER_10I I was just want to say I agree with her about Tenchi. Like, so I know for me personally, I I have not, I don't think I've watched a harem anime since Tenshi. Because I just like like she said, I don't I just don't get I just don't get I just don't get it. Maybe maybe if it was maybe if it was a a lore's show, nigga was falling all it would it would make sense, it would make sense like give me a fine ass video.
SPEAKER_11I'm like, oh my, I understand, you know, all this heat. But you know, going back to what Aurora was saying, um, with Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell was very iconic. And to me, it had uh gave birth to these cyborg um dystopian uh animes, such as um Ergo Proxy. And um for me, I was like, wow, this gives me Ghost in the Shell vibes, and and it made me appreciate Ghost in the Shell more because I don't think Ergo Proxy would have really been born without Ghosts in the Shell, because there's just so many different elements, um, you know, but I do like that that dystopic cyberpunk tech vibes that um you don't really see, especially from I would say, like a non-gender femme character, um, which brought a lot of empowerment as well. Because it's there, there was no other anime that was like Ghost in the Show. And also a lot of giving, you know, a lot of people, especially when we were kids, it was like the guys or masculine energy love Dragon Ball Z. But then I'm seeing like my brother watch Ghosts in the Show. And I'm like, ah, see, I like that. So, you know, they they were like, oh, they were still against Taylor Moon, but I start seeing them watching Ghosts in the Show with a STEM protagonist that and that really it was different, you know. You like Miss Skittle says, you didn't see the the damsel and distress, you just saw someone that was really out here busting ass and that was strong and confident, wasn't even human, you know what I'm saying? But it was just uh just it was just very powerful. And um, I didn't really appreciate until I was older for sure. Because as you're when you're a child, you're like, I want to see some some some pretty shit. And you know, and some and some and some some powers and transitions, and you know, but I really didn't appreciate until I was older. So I do have to agree as well.
SPEAKER_05I mean, I'm gonna pass it over to Lolo in a second, but I do want to just comment on that one point about you know, guys, a lot of guys watching and commenting about Dragon Ball Z. That's why they're such a huge Dragon Ball Z fandom slash hope. Um, and then the the Vice, which you know, they won't watch Sailor Moon or they won't pay attention to Say the Moon because they think it's girly, but then is that it's weird because some people I saw would not watch um Ronan Warriors or Saint Seiya because it would have those transitions, and some would. So it was very confusing for me back then because it was like you won't watch it because you think you won't watch Sailor Moon because you think it's girly, and you watch that with Z because you think it's you know many testosterone and stuff like that. And I'm like Ronan Warriors and Saint Seya to me was like a combination of the two. It had the epic battles, it had all the superpowers, it had the strong uh uh male protagonists, and then it had the transition, it has the magic use, it has all that stuff in Savanmoon. So it was like some of some guys I remember when I was younger, some guys like I ain't watching that because they like changing and stuff. I was like, all right, um, and then someone was like, yo, that joint is tight. I was like, Yeah, I agree. So I just wanted to you know piggyback on that. But let's go over to our second guest panelist, Low, Low.
SPEAKER_07Hey y'all. Um, so like forgive me if you hear something in the background. Like, we're recording this on a weekend, and you know, weekend is for cleaning. So, you know, like I was able to uh you know bargain with my my housemates. Um, so like no Anita Baker, but you might hear a little bit, you know, whatever in the background. But it's cool. Be good.
SPEAKER_08You bring me redirecting.
SPEAKER_07All right, so I first started uh like watching Tunami in the early 2000s. Um my ideal, like the best lineup um as a kid, so I put it, I would come home. Um, it would either be like when I was home or when I was at my cousin's place. Like my mom dropped me off to my cousin's place for the weekend in like Baltimore. I was living in like Algorithm Maryland at the time, and my cousins were living in Baltimore, and I would always come through and watch Toonami, and like the best lineup would be straight off the bat, I think it started at four o'clock, and it was Cyborg 009, followed by Dragon Ball Z, followed by Yu Yu Haku Show, followed by Maroni Kenshin. Like that was my jam. Like that was my lineup. That was like my my favorite um lineup. And they did that for quite a while. Yeah. And I really got I got exposed to so many different uh anime stories that again I didn't realize were anime. I just knew that I I I liked I like the stories. Um I know you uh like a lot of there's a lot of talk about you, Hakasho, and uh Roni Kenshin and Dragon Ball Z. But so I want to I do want to focus on Cyborg 009 because it's it's kind of like a sleeper hit. It's like it's no one really talks about it that that much, but it's just very um it it hits a lot of points for me when it when it comes to action, you know, when it comes to story, especially when it comes to diversity. So uh the plot for those who don't know, the plot for Cyborg 009 is um nine people like from around the world, like they get kidnapped by this evil organization called Black Ghost. Um, it's led by this skull dude, and they um they underwent experiments that allowed them that and they they were turned into human weapons to promote like the production of cyborg warfare. So um, you know, while they did um they were able to transform these nine people um into cyborgs with like with powers, like his like his top scientist, like Dr. Gilmore, like helped the cyborgs escape and to rebel against Skull and the organization to bring them down. And so like the nine the cyborgs like band together to stop black black ghosts. And um, I just really love the camaraderie. Um I love it was just like um it it it kind of get spread the message of you know, like you know, big like the military industrial complex like affects like everyone across the world. Um, so like you know, it it it it affects everyone. So like everyone needs to band together to like you know bring it down. That's that's what I um that's what I I glean from it. But also specifically why I want to focus on Cyborg 009 is because out of the four shows that I listed, it was the only show that featured to any extent a black character, like and like a black black character. So like um his name is Punma, he was cyborg 008, because like you know, nine, they they're all they're they're all given um they're they're all given um numbers. Oh no, no. So it's yeah, so like there's so like I'll I'll run down real quick. So like Joe like Cyborg 009, he's like the he he's the hero excuse me, he's the main character, he's super strong, and he his his thing is he's like super fast. And then there's uh cyborg 001, who like uh and Joe is from Japan, and then Cyborg 001 is from Russia, and he has the ability to like he he's he's like the baby of the group. So he's like he's like a telepathy telekinesis, and then cyberbrook zero zero two is from America, like super American. He can um he has jet thrusters in his feet, and then cyber003 is from France, like she's like the girl of the group, like she has enhanced vision and hearing. Um, you know, she's like I she's like the dead mother. There's cyber004 from Germany. Um and he he has the ability to like he he has like um he has like uh guns in his hand, I think. That's that's like that's like his thing. And then 005 is like um he's indigenous. Um he's like you know, because he has super strength. He's like and they're super 006 who is uh from China. Like he's he started out as like he was like a chef, he's like the chef of the group, and like he can breathe fire, and then there's 007 who can um he can shape shift and then 008. And what I really love about uh uh 008 specifically is he's like he's black, he's African, he's um he's from Kenya. They didn't they didn't specify that um because they this this series has been around since the early 60s and girl the way he looked back then, it was to to quote my Liberian mother like in not correct. Like so, but they they fixed it. Um so like he's Kenyan now. And um what I what I love about him, he um his story is so he was um he was a child soldier, like you know, from like this place called I don't I'm actually not sure if it's a real place or not, but the Muamba Republic probably not, but you know, he took part in an in a rebellion against an oppressive government before he was you know taken by black ghosts and turned into a cyborg. Um, you know, I just like I I I've met and I I I know people who um took place in like you know who participated in like the civil war in Liberia. So like that um that storyline, like you know, it'll always like resonate with me. Not only that, his superpower is that like there's there's always this huge um stereotype with black people that they they can't swim. Like, you know, black people have a very specific um historical trauma with water. So, like, you know, when it becomes like you know, swimming and you know, obviously, you know, slave ships and all that stuff. So, like to see like a black character, a well-drawn black character, um, like he actually like looks black, and his superpower is that he has um enhanced lungs that allow him to you know like um travel underwater at like you know high depths. It was it was really powerful, you know, for me because like you know, living like I was at the time I was living in a predominantly you know white neighborhood, like all these, all these stereotypes. Like, oh black people don't swim. And like not only not only like does does this character swim, he is like the best swimmer, and he, you know, and and he can um I uh yeah, and I I love the fact that his his power wasn't like uh super strange, you know, because like black people are like the also another stereotype is that like we're like superhuman and like we're super strong and we can do all these things. I love that like he was powerful in his own right, he didn't have to be the strongest one, but you know, his um his abilities made like you know, let him like he was a very, very, you know, important asset to the team because when it had had to do like an underwater mission, he had to like you know swim over under some ship or do do whatever and like it, you know, deep sea dive or whatever. That was like his thing. And I feel like if um it if if like I could definitely see this as a like a big um movie, like a big a big live action film. I feel like this story lends itself to live action, like um, like with the smoothest transition, because like it's a bunch of cyborgs, like literally, it's it's just like take um take it's basically Terminator and like I don't know, and throw that in a blender with We Are the World, and you get Cyborg 009. Um so I yeah, and I and I I I would really love all these different, you know, you know, all these characters with their like storylines to you know come gel gel together. But yeah, that that was my like uh favorite tsunami experience. Like also one one other last thing. Um, I love Ghosts in the Shell, but not because of the show, because when I was a kid I did not understand what was going on, so I would specifically tune in just to watch the opening sequence. Ah and and then so like that music, yeah, yes, with with with the visual with the visuals. It was perfect, the soundtrack is on the Apple music, it's life. Oh my god, and I was like, I'm like, oh yeah, like this is amazing, and but I I have no everything looks so pretty, but I have no idea what's going on. So and that's yeah, maybe maybe I'll I'll I'll try it again. Um, you know, the the the regular version, not not not not the black widow version, but not the black widow version. Oh no, so but yeah, yeah, those are my best uh tuna experiences. Thank you.
SPEAKER_05I'm sorry, give me a second. The black widow version.
SPEAKER_07All right, so movie dropping in the summer.
SPEAKER_05I'll be there. Well, not in the theaters, but I'll be there. Anywho, so thank you, Lolo. We're going to give an opportunity for the doctor to give his tunami experience.
SPEAKER_00All right, so it's interesting. I feel like the other panelists have really covered so much of why I love to. Um, I actually didn't get into tuna into tsunami until around what was it, college. So um I I don't know a little bit about anime before then, but I do think Toonami was really what got me into like a wider range of anime than I started to see before, uh, especially with Ghost in the Shell, you know, being one of the real standouts to me. Um, you know, but interestingly, one of my favorites, probably the one I mentioned today. You can't see it, but I said that a little bit about my Pokemon chronic. So that was something that had gone to Nami. And it's not something that gets a huge amount of attention compared to you know some of the like OG classic anime, you know, that we know and love. But um, it really highlighted a lot of side stories for Pokemon characters. So, like, you know, a little section on Brock, on Misty, on Team Rocket. Um, they had a few new characters in like the beginning and like their chase, um, like their quest around finding Raku, you know, the one of the legendary dogs of the second generation. And I really loved how it highlights some of these characters. So, you know, we never really I mean, you know, they're main characters, but they don't get as much focus as far as like Ash does and whatnot. And it really went to depth with like some of Rock's issues with his families a little bit more, which got hinted at, you know, in the main series, but it really explored that a lot more. Um, and some other things. And I really love Pokemon Chronicles, and it was one of those things that like just it didn't really get that much attention, but that's something I absolutely enjoyed. And I think that's what really got me more into Pokemon lore overall, you know, which is something that you know I didn't I love the games, but I think that really just made me more interested in the Pokemon universe in general. Um, also I always thought up until Toonami that, like, oh, I would never like Sailor Moon because Sailor Moon's girl. You know, I've it's just not for me, you know, I just can't like Sailor Moon. And the first few times I started watching it, and I was like, damn, like this is really interesting. This is kind of cool. I like it a lot. You know, so tunami really got me hit to that too. Um, yeah, like it's definitely a huge throwback. Anytime I listen to a Lo-Fi playlist, I immediately think of it as, you know, so many of it has that, you know, classic feel, that um like almost vaporwave or synthwave, you know, style. Um, but yeah, yeah, I feel like really there's just so much I love about it. I think it's been covered really well, but it tsunami has just been a huge part of my childhood and I guess a young adulthood as well. So definitely.
SPEAKER_05Awesome, awesome Pokemon. Uh Chronicles was definitely a uh epicenter of our introduction into the entire storyline of Pokemon, especially when we started watching before then on like four kids. Four kids? No, definitely be kids, and then it you're right. Um and then it just continued from there. So yeah, definitely a good point. Thank you for that. What is your tsunami story?
SPEAKER_06Um I I think like Miss U Aurora said, I think it was all about the curation. Um, uh I was I was definitely into anime uh before Tunami came out. Um, you know what I'm saying? We used to have the uh weekly trip to uh Blockbuster, and I was just I was a fiending like you know, I was I was just I just went into the far left section and my little you know tiny box, a little area of area, you know, and when we was watching like you know, vampire hundred D, Apple C, freaking random episodes of D uh Dragon Ball Z, you know, whatever, whatever I can get my hand on. But but as far as catching on TV, like you know, like you could catch it on like uh you know sci-fi channel every now and again. All the different kid networks had, you know, we'll have one or two. Uh I don't know what channel Astro Boy came on, but I would find find that motherfucker.
SPEAKER_07Um V and Cartoon Network, I believe.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. This is about this is before uh Cartoon Network showed it. When I was when I was watching it. Um But uh but yeah, the way uh like I like I was literally waiting for Toonami. I remember I remember uh before the split. On Cartoon Network, but back when all the Tex Avery shows were still on there, and and they used to blow the shit out of me. Like I would turn it on. I'm like, oh, this old shit's still on. All right. And let me let me know when the cartoon cartoons come back on. And then and then they uh and then and then they split them off. I forget what's called Bloomberg or I forget what they called uh all the older older cartoons. Oh boomerang. Boomerang, yeah. So I was like, all right, cool. That's over there. If I need something to fall asleep to, I can go, I can go that way.
SPEAKER_11Oh my god, don't have a boomerang like that. Oh coming back. Boomerang's flat though. Like I mean, it's all coming back to you.
SPEAKER_05Boomerang. The stuff you watched back then is on boomerang now.
SPEAKER_07So boomerang. If you're watching this, take some time and stretch.
SPEAKER_06But uh, but no, I remember uh yeah, when Tanami first came on, just coming home after school and like me not having to switch channels and plan my uh time, my show slots around each other. I was just like, oh, I can just sit here and watch the same thing. Like and it's and it's like and it's all fire, like this I mean 90% fire, like that this oh man. I actually don't remember oh 10 kaze because like wind, you know, but uh but no, definitely like was instantly pulled in by like you know Thundercats, you know, uh Ronin Ronin Warriors like change changed my life. I was just like I was like, oh wait, wait, these I didn't these niggas usually aren't so well dressed like this. And I was like, oh we got all the fire and then oh and then the main character got the white suit yeah yeah like new bullshit that's on now I don't know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_07I don't know what you talk about uh yeah the runner warriors that that white that white suit like the all white like an all white suits are very black, so I appreciate Yeah, like I mean to this day if your main character like transforms like a few times like I'll I'm I'm I'm in.
SPEAKER_06I'm uh like okay, I'm let me let me let me see what you're working with because I'm just a man. Uh yeah, tsunami was just everything. And not to and not to mention like you know, again with the curation, just being able to go to school. And like, you know, before it's like, okay, I don't know, we watching this, were you watching this, but before, but you know, everybody, everybody who who was anybody was watching Tsunami knew and knew what the hell was was going on. So uh and and not to and not to mention uh and it's you know introduct introducing me to like just the you know the like the big three you know like you know the bleach the uh we don't need to talk about one piece on tsunami. No, we don't uh but uh yeah DBZ back then when it was part of it. Um but uh yeah tsunami music, everything. Oh, and the promos. The promos I I I didn't even know what they were what they were back then, but just hear hearing hearing Tom's smooth voice just speaking over, like you know, and they had the voice actors from the cartoons come in and say different shit sometimes like I was like how is this possible? Y'all just take this from Japan. It was it was such a special um special thing to the you know to the point where I don't even like I mean I haven't I haven't been watching regular TV for like 15 years now, but but like I just can't I just can't imagine like uh you know something being just like that for like it was for us uh ever again yeah oh wait can we can we take some time to uh comment on the anime drip because yeah Lord Jesus it's a fire force like Kazi just waggaddying up you know I'm seeing this weird look look with the fade in my had to dig in my closet yeah yeah Adula Burst realists. Uh no I'm not I'm not I'm not in any of the characters. I'm I'm I'm not I'm like nigga 37.
SPEAKER_07I just got we all got a little we all got a little uh Adula abla gotta birth giving the girls bronchitis.
SPEAKER_06Oh my mine ain't wake up yet.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, just a little fire force he threw together. Nice, nice, nice. Uh fire on your chest. I don't know if it's I think is that a Charizard or Mortal Kombat?
SPEAKER_07That is a flaming Superman. I I appreciate I appreciate that. See, like like we when you're not like a main character, like you you can experiment more with your look, and I appreciate that.
SPEAKER_06Very true, very true. I feel the same.
SPEAKER_05So um uh I also want to agree with all of our panelists uh with all of their uh different takes on the different shows, um, uh how Toonami came to be for them. My personal uh story or the way that my path has gone is uh similar to everybody else's. I would come home after school and uh I had like unlike uh Kaze, who you know wanted to stay on one channel, I enjoyed kind of setting up my schedule, going from channel to channel. So I would come home, the first channel, I think I'd be home around 2.35. As soon as I get home at 230, 228, I think it was, I would change it to kids WB because WB had a couple shows I wanted to watch. Uh I know Pokemon was a part of that. Jackie Chan Adventures was a part of that later in time. Um, but you like authentic, authentic at the beginning of it all was when the first season of Pokemon came out on WB when it was on channel 20, uh, which is uh in DC, is the W WB.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Right? Pokemon was on there. I remember that was when I was introduced to Hunter. That's why Hunter is my favorite Pokemon now, because the first thing I saw was Hunter looking Charizard and then making Sabrina laugh. After that, it was mystery. Um, once I was done with WBDC, I then switched it over to Tunami. And then, as Kaze said, it was hit after hit after hit. Uh my my uh uh my anxiousness went up because I had to sit there through Dragon Ball Z and wait until the next episode because nothing happened in this one. Um not knowing that I enjoyed looking at cosplay was was awakened when I watched Sailor Moon transform day after day after day. Um uh Thundercats. Uh I didn't know I always wanted a sword that I can see the future and see where everything is located. Like saying things three times fast is always fun. But when Thundercats did it, it made it a thing. Um, again, I repeat, Sayone cosplay embodies uh reboot for me. Uh, I went back and I found reboot. I watch reboot every years, and it's hard each and every time because I can't find an actual DVD of it. I have to just you know find it on places that have things that I could potentially watch. So I had to look all over the internet for reboot every time it comes on, and every time I watch it, I'm thoroughly enthralled. Um, but the show that I wanted to represent, which is the logo behind me, the shirt that I'm wearing, the rings on my finger, and of course, the lantern that I must turn on. Wait, wait, wait for the camera. There it is.
SPEAKER_07So Ham Taro, right?
SPEAKER_05I wish it was Ham Taro. But yes, the the the Justice League came out on Tsunami. Eventually it first came out on Kids WB, um, but that was when they were partnered with Cartoon Network, and that was why uh in 2001, 2000, between 2001 and 2003, the first Justice League came out on Tsunami. When it did, it gave me the ability to watch it in more depth by that time. And then Justice League Unlimited came out after that. I was so fascinated, so in love, so taken just because before that they had the Justice Friends. And you know, we had your Aquaman, we had your Green Lantern, you had your Wonder Woman, your Batman, your Superman. I was like, okay, regular people. I was like, okay, I'll watch it, no problem. I love my superheroes. But to see Jon Stewart grace my screen for the that was when I got it. Uh, like it's it changed. And I and I remember one specific episode was when Jon Stewart was in the hood. He was in Harlem specifically, and he was at the barbershop, and he was wearing his trench coat, he was chilling, wearing his shades, talking to Pops, cutting the little boy's hair, and then his uh his uh his ring went off and was like there's some danger somewhere. And he literally transformed, not even transformed, his like his construct of his suit took the place of his trench coat, face exposed and everything. And it was like, I John, you about to go to work? Yeah, I'm about to go to work. Flew out the door to go handle business. I was like, Yes, I don't need no glasses, Clark Kent. I don't need no mask, Batman. From point A to point B, from Harlem to Metropolis, he gets done.
unknownIt was everything.
SPEAKER_05Um, and uh as I said before at the at the opening of the episode, Tom, Sonny Strait, um uh awakened a many people back in the day. He was the voice of Tom. And I think for me, the lo-fi with Tom's voice changed some things for me. Like I wasn't prepared, like I listened to the music, but then when his voice hit that bass, that baritone hit my ears, there was such a there was a there's a disruption in the force, there was there was a change in the atmosphere.
SPEAKER_07And I'm like, what's up?
SPEAKER_05And it was stuck. I was just it, I was not prepared for what exactly that was. And it's like it he I don't think they at least at the beginning, I'm sure they didn't know what they had when they started. Um, when they put it in there, was they were trying something new, and it was something that lasted for more than a decade with all the different shows and anime that they introduced as we were talking about Ronin Warriors, Dragon Ball Z, excuse me, um uh uh uh shoot Cyborg 009, uh Meglist XLR, uh Justice Leaks, Sailor Moon, all of these different animes and cartoons. Like, you you really don't know what you were introduced to as it pertains to Tunami until you actually go back and you think about like the more we're talking about it, the more like wait a minute, that was there too. The Tensumujos, the mobile super. I was introduced to Gundam.
SPEAKER_10Gundam, Gundam, Tsunami.
SPEAKER_05See, you forget, see, you forget what you didn't what you didn't remember to Gundam was my dome costume with that hand that burns, like it's that's what it started for me.
SPEAKER_08Like, I've lost star big O. Big O. I lost O.
SPEAKER_11Oh, big O, big O. He was like the old that was the only tech that mattered to me. I I didn't like I I couldn't I couldn't get with Gundam, to be truly honest. But when it came to big O, I was like, this is what I needed in my life.
SPEAKER_06You needed that drip, you needed that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, he was he was basically Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne was a giant robot.
SPEAKER_11Oh man, that swag, like that gothic noir feel. It was like Bruce Wayne with a fucking big ass robot. Like I was like, this is what I needed. Like that even not either.
SPEAKER_01That was also that was another music soundtrack that was that was him. That music soundtrack was great. Like the initial initial like intro when they started that jazz, that jazz uh saxophone solo where they were just throwing the city top. That was yeah, that that shit was amazing.
SPEAKER_05Like all of the different and like you can literally go down, like Zatch Bell. People slept on Zatch Bell at first, nobody really watched it. Yes, you know, you talk about children shooting beams out of their mouth.
SPEAKER_07It's me, I'm people.
SPEAKER_05People who watch Dragon Ball Z stuck on people. Yes.
SPEAKER_07Um people. You said still people. No, it's me. I'm I'm I'm still people. Oh, you're still people, gotcha, gotcha.
SPEAKER_05Uh well, I remain people. You'll wake up one day. Um, yes, you also mentioned we also mentioned One Piece. Now, I said we wouldn't talk about the first couple episodes of One Piece on Toonami. The only reason why I'm even gonna say anything is because there are many people who got left behind by the One Piece train because they decided that the first 30 episodes that were on Toonami did not give them what they needed from One Piece. Now, I will agree, those first 30 episodes were extremely slow. They were drawn a certain particular way, people's not for anybody, it wasn't even for me, I'm not gonna lie. But if you took that as a challenge, which I did, and a lot of other people did, you would have continued on looking for a place to find it. And when you found it, you would be almost at episode 30, uh 1000, sorry, right now. You'd be past that in the mock button.
SPEAKER_10I am one of those people who got left behind because, like you say, I thought it was the art.
SPEAKER_05I'm not gonna again, I agree. It was it was very rough, uh, 30 episodes. And the worst part was when it got to episode 30, it started right all over again. It never went past it. Yeah, um, I'm not gonna blame it on anybody, uh, Vid for kids. Uh, but I'm just gonna say it didn't, it didn't continue on. Um, of course, you know, uh the doctor talked about Pokemon Chronicles, also booked Pokemon Battle Frontier. It gave individuals who didn't see it on, say, kids WB or W, you know, your local localized channels or Fox Kids. It gave them the opportunity to be introduced to Pokemon. And I don't, I mean, other than the games, I don't think people would know about the cartoon had it not been for Tsunami as well. Uh, what else? Oh, Stormhawks. Stormhawks was another sleeper for my personal opinion. It wasn't like SwatX, uh, which came on right next to Pirates of Dark Water on Saturdays, right after Tunami ended, but before Tsunami came on at night. But Stormhawks was a very um Tatsunoku type of uh show, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_07Uh whatever. It was oh yeah, it was in that block, like I want to say like 2006, 2007. I know that they put it in a block next to Code Lioko. Yes, like that last that last season of Code Leoko.
SPEAKER_05Precisely, yeah, yeah. And again, 100% correct. It wasn't for everybody, it's based off of who wanted to watch it.
SPEAKER_07Um I it I remember all I remember is that like the bad guys, like when they came through, it was like there was like it was like this very, very like campy evil music, and like one of the villains would would fly through playing the playing the violin with the violin, playing the evil music. I thought that was funny. So just little little nuances like that.
SPEAKER_05For me, it was like how to train your dragon meets um Gundam. Not Gundam, no, Zoid, Zords is what I meant to say. Yes, how to treat meet your teacher, how to teach your dragon meets Zoids.
SPEAKER_07Zoids, oh my god, Zords. I I what I it sounded like Zoids, it was it was it just sounded like um you know New York Italian people trying to say Zords. That that's why I never really watched it. Oh no, Zloids, it's Zoids. We need Thunder Zoid power new. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05Zords had many seasons and many iterations. I thoroughly enjoyed Zoids. Uh it especially it and then when I got to play the game, it was even more amazing. Um uh then, of course, we had things like Ravemaster, which a lot of our panelists absolutely love. Uh Teen Titans was also on Tsunami, especially when it was at night on Saturdays.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it's funny you say those in that succession because I remember I have a distinct memory of coming in at the end of Ravemaster to like like I like I love I I never I was never really into the show, but I loved the it the last the um the English like ending theme because like and like it would lead into that Toonami block that started with a new episode of Teen Titans. So I would hear you can rave about it, you can scream and shout it, and then I'm like, all right, okay, all right, that that's when I knew that like Teen Titans was about to come off. It's like the end of Ravemaster.
SPEAKER_06That does sound familiar because I didn't watch anybody's Ravemaster, but I do remember that.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god. Yeah, well, it's it's good that Tunami also gave you uh uh musical cues to know when your shows are about to come off. It did. Um, and of course, and we were talking about when you know Toonami first started, and we were talking about the first cartoons they came on. Who who remembers right before Sailor Moon, right before after Robotech.
SPEAKER_08Robotech. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_07Robotech. I let me let me look that up because I don't remember that one.
SPEAKER_11I I actually saw Robotech before Tunami hit. I have to say that's my first anime I've ever seen besides Akira. And my father, he went to the pawn shop and he would get VHS's animes that I would like. And he was like, here, watch this. And I was like, what the fuck is Robotech? I was like, and I popped it in and I'm like, damn, this hit. And that's the only like mech. I'm not a huge mech anime watcher, but like when I say robot, that's really telling our age. Like we were shit. That's really telling our age, but Robo Man, that takes that back.
SPEAKER_05A lot of a lot of the anime-based cartoons, as they called them back then, that were on Fox Kids and on WB Kids got moved over to Tonami to continue airing, like Transformers Beast Wars used to be on Fox Kids, and then they moved Beast Wars was so phenomenal.
SPEAKER_07Everything as yeah, I remember first watching Beast Wars on Cartoon Network as a kid.
SPEAKER_05As a kid, and like I remember when it when they took it off, and I was like, Well, what am I gonna watch? And the next year, Reboot came out in the same in the same graphics but better. And I was like, Oh, okay, so you're just replacing it with the okay, I'm full. Let's keep going, let's keep going.
SPEAKER_07Did you watch the follow-up to Beast Wars? It was like Beast Morphers, it was like it took four yeah, Beast Machine. It took four of the main characters from Beast Wars, so it had Optimus Prime, it had She Tor, it had Rat Trap, and then it had um Black Arachnid, and it it and that was like it was like a core four of them. Like they those were the four that like survived from like the last season, and they like got Eric.
SPEAKER_01It was kind of like that. They kind of it was almost like they went with Ford in the future, and everybody was trying to remember that. Yeah, and they looked like they stylized the shit.
SPEAKER_07It was it was interesting. They try they like transformed into like new versions of like beast, you know, like warriors, and like they they had a bunch of different um allies to like join them in the fight, but like it was it was an interesting style.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I didn't I didn't like it. They looked anorexic.
SPEAKER_09Oh I don't like the plan like she told skinny enough.
SPEAKER_06I was like, What you do to my man?
SPEAKER_07Oh my god, he ran it up the side of building, he gotta be skinny legend, come on.
SPEAKER_06Nah, and and then and then and then you know, beast was in there. We was on trans metals. Now I had all the trans metals, and you and that's what it was. They wanted to sell you new toys. I don't want your skinny toys. I had all the trans metals. Like in your blood.
SPEAKER_07Come on now.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_07I'll go back.
SPEAKER_05Um also, you know, tsunami gave us, you know, some people hadn't seen Star Wars, Star Wars Corona Wars premiered on Tsunami. Uh Batman Beyond.
SPEAKER_08If you didn't catch it on that TV great show. Come on. What is that guy's name again?
SPEAKER_06Terry.
SPEAKER_05Terry. Girls mask. I wonder. Like, what are you talking about? It was so bad. I uh Terry can take his, you know what? I'm not gonna say anything.
SPEAKER_07Okay, quick quick question. So I like many people I have a feeling all of us would like to see a live action Batman Beyond. How how do you think they should, if they were to do it, how do you think they should do like the mask situation? Because that always that that that was always like I was like, how does that mask translate to live action?
SPEAKER_11Cyberpunk, it has to be cyberpunk because all of Batman Beyond was cyber cyberpunk, it was like cyberpunk gothic noir. So if they can keep that same vibe um and just keep that theme, it would look pretty dope. But if they try to do, if they try to make it look, I don't know, grungy, I don't know. That's why Batman Beyond was so special because it had a very stylized, contemporary cyberpunk look compared. To the original Batman, which was gothic noir, that gave you that same feeling, like big O. It gave you like you didn't even know what fucking time period the original Batman was in. You're like, are we in like the 20s? Are we in the 90s? Like you really didn't know, like you're in the 20s, you know, zoot suit, but then you got fucking phones. You didn't know what the hell time period Batman was in.
SPEAKER_07It was so funny because in Batman Beyond, like the girl, like it was the future, but the girls were still using CD ROMs.
SPEAKER_11Okay, that was our future. Okay, that was our generation.
SPEAKER_06Yep, you don't know what you don't know. You don't know what you know.
SPEAKER_05Um I I I actually don't have an answer for that question because you know I'm talking about the mouth specific specifically. I knew you were I knew you were it's a full-body suit, but the mouth moves, and it's like Superman, uh Superman, Spider-Man's mouth doesn't move, Iron Man's mouth doesn't move. So you're trying to think if you were trying to compare it to another superhero suit, who has a full body suit which mouth moves, or do they just like not have a mouth, you know, place plate rather?
SPEAKER_06So I unless they didn't do it, do it like Batman.
SPEAKER_05Jimmy. Well, Batman Beyond his suit wasn't like that.
SPEAKER_06Um you saw was his mouth and both in both things, they were completely covered head to toe, but the mouth was out. So yeah, but beyond it, it wasn't, it was a suit. It wasn't oh that's what you mean.
SPEAKER_07Oh, yeah, just cover that bitch, yeah, like a ninja, like a cow, but with like an invisible arm, an invisible armor that like you know that goes over the mouth area so you can see him talking, there's an eye, something like that. I don't know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's having talk through the material. It's fine. Put a mic in there, put a mic in there.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I think it was more so for the cartoon aesthetic that you saw, like the mouth. I I don't think it would translate well in real life. I think it would look like yeah, it would look too fucking campy. So, like if you were to do it, like even how Black Panther had a full face, you know, covered, um, but you could still hear them talk. So, and that was fine. You see what I'm saying? So you if they if they're gonna do live action, you have to make it look realistic. Yeah, in live, you know what I'm saying? You can't make it look cheesy, and that's I think that's where where live action, um, you know, adaptations from like anime or cartoons, it gets lost because they want it to look exactly like cartoons, but cartoons look like cartoons for a reason, you know what I'm saying? So you have to try to make it look as realistic as possible. So they would just keep it, you know, fully covered, but just have them talking through the mask. So I think that'll be fine. Yeah, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_05So one of the big things that I believe all of us have uh said multiple times is uh the difference between the weekday afternoon uh uh tsunami and then the adult swim tsunami. It's cartoon network uncut, you know, the the the latter part of our evenings, the the early mornings.
SPEAKER_07Cartoon network uncut. So if you if you compared it like that, what what what would be the what would be the what does that stag smell like of anime?
SPEAKER_11What the hell? I mean, I compared it to like you know B E T after dark.
SPEAKER_06Nope.
SPEAKER_11Look, our parents would beat our ass because if we know what the fuck BET after dark was as a kid, that's a problem because we were just what elementary school, middle school.
SPEAKER_05We were just awake, that's all that matters. I watched Comic View and then BETL cut started. That's how I know what stuff works.
SPEAKER_11And we didn't turn off we didn't turn off the channel, did we? Did you?
SPEAKER_07You kept you kept the remote on that, you kept the hand on that last button, you kept your thumbnails on that last button.
SPEAKER_06Return the last channel, like hit that instant narcolepsy this time.
SPEAKER_11Okay, you start here like the the floor the floorboard creak, and you just hit that glass button real quick. Like, hey Mo, we're just watching, you know, Cartoon Network. Like a show you don't even fucking watch. You know what I'm saying? But you just when they walk away, you just click it right back.
SPEAKER_07You know what I mean? You got like you got like Looney Tunes kids on one channel, and then you got like the uncut South Park movie on the other channel.
SPEAKER_11Just yeah, that was so you can hit flipping back and forth.
SPEAKER_07My mom used to call my mom used to call me an eye servant because like you know, what whenever because like whenever I like she caught me watching TV when I knew I wasn't, like I would just dip. She'd be like, ah, gotcha, gotcha, got you, little eye servant.
SPEAKER_11Oh man, adult swim though. It was like the grown and sexy of Toonami, and we were still children watching it.
SPEAKER_07Um 35 and overclub card of cartoons, right?
SPEAKER_11But that gave us fully coolie, you know what I'm saying? It gave us some some it's like wild, like I guess if you could handle Toonami, if you were like a really cool kid if you watch adult swim, because that's when like cowboy bop came on, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06Changed your life and outlook tri-gun, tri-gun. Good lord.
SPEAKER_11Blood blood plus um, you know what I'm saying? Blood plus blood plus. I think blood plus was on uh Adult Swim, I think because you yeah, um, it just gave you all of the the more gorier, I would say adult content anime that paved the way to what we watch now. You know, you kind of look at your genres and anime that you watch, like yeah, you have your starter pack, your anime starter pack, and then you get to like, oh shit, this is stuff I'm actually watching now. And that was adult swim. And you know, the the very strange and odd, but oddly sexy and erotic, but like, you know, a lot of different types of fighting scenes and gore that they could not air at four o'clock at all. Um, you know, and it was even, I think Yu Yu Haku Show, they moved it from Tunami to Adult Swim as well, because um, Yu Hakasho had cursing. Like uh Yu Hakasho had a lot of cursing. Um, and they were like, Yeah, we need to move this to like adult swim.
SPEAKER_07Air Korama like like cut a nigga into four pieces like French fries.
SPEAKER_09So I mean can't have can't have that at four o'clock.
SPEAKER_05I mean, the main thing about adult swim for tsunami was it gave them the ability to uh air uncut, as they called them, uncut versions of the anime that they would normally have in the daytime. Uh either that was listening to the complaints or just the the queries because people would be watching, you know, Tenchi, people watching Naruto and One Piece, and like, well, you shoot somebody, but you cut off the scene, or you shoot somebody and the blood is white, or you shoot somebody and I don't see blood. So they would have they would say, you know, for the people who want to see it, I mean, Dead Men Wonderland was on Tunami Adult Swim. Like, you can't show that anywhere else.
SPEAKER_07And blood is a main character in that show.
SPEAKER_11Right. Right. That's the main accessory is the blood.
SPEAKER_07Category is blood.
SPEAKER_05All right. So, final question to all of my panelists. We've talked about all of our favorite anime, we talked about the uh favorite shows that are on tsunami. Uh, we kind of, you know, kind of, I mean, even before we ask the question, you guys, it bolts all this information. So, what we want to ask, or what I want to ask, or what we want to know is how did Tunami affect your choices in anime and cartoons and TV shows? Uh, we talked about it a little bit, I think, for each person, but like what do you feel about Tunami that really made that change? What what type of genres were created for you as it pertains to your choices in anime cartoons and uh TV shows? And we will start with uh anybody who wants to answer the question.
SPEAKER_11Um, I would say shonen uh is definitely the genre uh gore and horror for sure when it comes to uh anime. Uh it was it was tsunami and then adult swim. And that transition to, oh, this is something that now I know what I want, you know, that that definitely was um was like the final decision on what I need for uh uh an anime for me to really enjoy. You know, it gave me uh it opened my world up to psychopaths, you know, things, certain genres that I I see myself always falling into. And also with Toonami, it pushed, it kind of gave you, it pushed you into different categories or genres that you might not have watched. Um, if maybe, you know, if you were like channel surfing. So like after reboot, and then there was Sail Moon, and then there was Dragon Ball Z, and then there was, you know, um Outlaw Star, Ronnie Kenshin. It gave you different genres. So you weren't like you weren't just stuck in one box. And it gave me different feels like, oh, okay, well, maybe I'll like this too. But it did, it did touch bases on different anime styles and genres. And but for sure, I'm I'm stuck in like sci-fi horror action gore. Like I can't get out of it. I and it's it's funny because it's it's something that's so specific. There's not a whole bunch of anime out there that's continuously like that. So anytime I see something like Bleach or Jiu Jitsu Kaisen, I hack on that shit quick. I'm like, oh my god, this is what I need. Because you don't really see iconic, great action and also aesthetically beautiful art. You know, I'm I'm a huge, I call myself like a artistic, you know, like a like a aesthetic whore because I cannot watch shows like one piece for long because I can't, I can't do the gumby string bean shit. I can't do it. I don't know how I'm on episode 745 because I just I'm just not I'm just there now. But you know, um when it comes to the style, I'm I'm very much have a certain niche that I can't get out of. Even when I try, I'm like, let me go back to what I like. Um, you know, and it paved the way for like uh even new animes outside of Cartoon Network and Tsunami, like there's Pacific Rim on uh Netflix, which is insane. Um, and that is something that it gives you a little bit of uh mech, uh, you know, it gives you cyberpunk, it gives you action, it gives you gore, and it kind of, you know, I'm starting to see more of stylized uh art out there with people who have kind of like the same vision like me, like what we need. So I'm really appreciative of Tunami. And also I I can't like finish this without saying, like, Tom, Tom is my nigga. Like, like, like what like the pot belly, potbelly Tom was my favorite. I just love he was my favorite, and then he would always close it with these these morals or these these guidelines for kids or even adults, you know, friendship. And then he would tie it into um, he would have little cutscenes from different animes like Dragon Ball Z and uh Sailor Moon and saying how friendship is so important and how you really can't do anything without teamwork. And so you weren't just watching it just to watch, you're actually relieving it with a type of moral or a life lesson. Like, I don't, I really like like sushi said, I really don't think they know how substantial Tom was, a tsunami was for children. It was like watching, it's kind of like watching um uh Nick Jr. with face.
SPEAKER_05Um, you know, yeah, like now I'm gonna have to agree with uh with uh sample braces. That is an official date and time that you stamped on all of the continues.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, that took it back to like knows how old we really are. You know, it took it back to like Nick Jr. with face and I hated that face.
SPEAKER_06I blocked out my mind. I just looked at shit.
SPEAKER_07But I mean he was he was munching on like uh peanut butter and bananas, I was like, yes, me too, bro.
SPEAKER_11But you know, they it it's like children hosts. We don't really see a lot of like cartoon children hosts, you know. You usually see a lot of it for like adult shows or like um TV shows and game shows, but we actually had a host that was meant for us and you know we learned from it. But Tom and his journey, like you know, the music, the the swag, and and how the common nature, no one could can just click over Tom. You just have to watch him, you know, whether it was the cartoons or whether it was a promo for movies, which wasn't Spain. Like I just I just loved him. And I I feel like our gener the next generation, they're just not gonna improve cartoon or animation or really anything without Tom, in my opinion. Like just seeing how pertinent he was to like our childhood and just how much we learned from him and things that we can kind of recollect, you know, that we watched or saw as a group, you know, it just speaks volumes on how important he was to all of us, that we can just talk about him and just be like, wow, he really touched us.
SPEAKER_02So well, let's hope that he doesn't fall into cancel culture because you know that this new generation can, you know, I I I know where Tom is in my heart.
SPEAKER_05I have to agree with everything you just said about Tom because I was, you know, before the episode, I was looking at some of the things that Tom said. Tom really did give speeches to encourage us along the way. Like he gave speeches about fear, about equality. Like, there's one I wanted to say eventually, but I'll say it real quick. So for you know, for for fear, he was like, they'll tell you you're not strong enough, smart enough, or talented enough to do what you want to do. But here's the thing you can never get into their fear, it's always there waiting for you. But if you give it in, if you give into it, it will stop you from doing anything. And then his line about equality: no matter what your sex, race, or creed, you can be strong, you can be smart, you can be equal. Try to remember that when anyone tells you you're not capable of doing something, or don't deserve something, or you don't belong somewhere, everyone is capable of race, including you.
SPEAKER_07Like Tom wasn't a part of what's the one. Tom is like very unproblem, he's very, very unproblematic. Like, y'all acting like he was actually saying, like, hey y'all, hey ladies, you know, put down the OnlyFans and pick up a book. All right, all right, all right. Now here's some Tenshi Mooyo. No, he wasn't like that. He wasn't like that.
SPEAKER_09Like, come on, don't do Tom like that.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, Tom was safe. I can't think of Tom getting canceled. Like they're reaching, they're reaching hard.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, like the haters like eating gum gum fruit, like with that reach.
SPEAKER_05Like but like Tom, Tom's ability to, and I I didn't think we were gonna start talking about Tom, but Tom's ability to like like literally meet you where you are.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he didn't talk down to you.
SPEAKER_05He didn't talk down at all. And his voice, like honestly, his voice made it seem like it was a father figure. Like, even though we knew it was just Tom, it was like a father figure's voice telling you how to be confident in yourself, how to respect yourself and others, about positivity, uh positivity, sorry, about the quality. Like, and you know what got me? And it was his last speech when tsunami, the original Tom, um, ended after season four of the Tom era. He gave a final speech. And I think I cried because it had like all of it, like uh uh uh Kazi was saying before, it had different clips from anime from the entire like time frame, the tenure of tsunami. It had clips from Abo Bob, Apoll Sar, from Yu-Gi-Oh, from uh uh uh um uh to reboot everything. And he said, Well, this is the end, beautiful friends. After more than 11 years, this is tsunami's final broadcast. It's been a lot of fun, and we'd like to thank each and every one of you who made this journey with us. Tsunami wouldn't be ever have done anything without you. Hopefully, we've left you with some good memories. So until we meet again, stay gold. Thank what?
SPEAKER_06Goosebumps.
SPEAKER_11All of them. I think I cried too.
SPEAKER_08I was like, no, Tommy positive three.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that was that was that the one where he um he looked like in extra in Ratchet and Clank? Yes, that design? Yes, okay. That was the final design. Yeah, yeah. That was that was hard.
SPEAKER_11That was very hard. When I heard Tonami was ending, yeah.
SPEAKER_07I didn't I didn't I didn't rock with this Tom design. I was like, like I like Tom, like Tom with eyes, the the Tom with eyes. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_05That was that was 2013 Tom. That was after they brought it back, and they had all but that Tom came back when they had the reboot of Thundercats. That was that was after. That was that was that.
SPEAKER_07Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, this was this this wasn't this was muscle bound. I've been in the gym time. Okay, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_11I didn't like that one. For me, I like the pot belly one.
SPEAKER_08He was like waddling, it was huge. He looked so pregnant.
SPEAKER_02He did much.
SPEAKER_07He did have I loved him. Real robots have curves, okay? He did, though.
SPEAKER_11He was two boxing thick with the pot belly. I was with it. I liked it.
SPEAKER_05But um, I'm sorry, let's uh continue. So uh other panelists, of course. We did uh we went on a Tom Thomas show real quick. Um we want to go back uh to the rest of the panelists giving your uh your feelings about how tsunamis shaped your anime TV show and cartoon choices. Uh let's uh slide on over the shampoo bracelets.
SPEAKER_01Um so so here's the thing about it. We were actually as we were sitting here joking about this, and she looked at me and said, Tom literally raised me. But uh fucking as I was as uh as I was sitting here thinking about it, I was like, one thing I will say as I go through all the shows that that uh were introduced to me to tsunami before I just went on my own little adventures. I got older and the internet got better. Um I have to sit here and say I tsunami didn't even showed a lot of uh showners, a hell of a lot of showings, but you know, occasional like we mentioned, earlier harms here, comedies here, so forth, but it was mostly just shown. But the one thing that in some mysteries here, the one thing that Tsunami always had in common, or all the shows that Tsunami had in common was that the music slapped. Like it was just our like that. That was what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_08Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_01You look at Albostar, Big O, Cabo V Box, Have I Shampoo, Ramoni Kitchen. It was like they all had the the similar fucking like like low line, where lo-fi is now, pretty much. What we call lo-fi now. And then you had the uh the like kind of like the more rock or synth wave joints coming out of like um Yu Yu Haga shoot and stuff like that. And then on top of that, you had the lo-fi music that was Chudabi's commercials as a whole. Like even when they were showing the you they were showing Dragon Ball Z background and then or a clip of Dragon Ball Z with like the smoothness of music by Tom's uh voice in the background. So I would say the one thing that they did in terms of genres for me is that I would watch anything that has music that slaps. I don't give a fuck what type it is. I don't think it could be it could be a romantic comedy. I normally but I will watch it if the music slaps. I don't give a fuck.
SPEAKER_02We have yet to watch romantic comedy. Yeah, we have yet we have yet to watch it in there.
SPEAKER_01We have yet to watch okay, she has yet to watch me because I have. But like, I have separate from her, but like it's like the music slaps, so I watched it. And it was like like even with uh some of the other ones, it's like if the music, some of the animes I watched, I probably thought the story was trash, but that music slapped, so I watched the whole season of it, and then I sat back and somebody asked me, Yeah, man, did you watch blah blah blah? And I was like, Nah, but was it this one with and I'll just like play the tune real quick? Yeah, that's the anime. Yeah, that music was great, and I'll start calling all episodes. Like, I remember episode 24 from Samurai Shampoo because of a song that I'm still hunting down till it's like so it was like I you know, it's yeah, in the end of the day, like Tunami literally shaped my musical taste for the rest of my life. And they also it's kind of screwed up, but it kind of shaped my kids' musical taste too, because I passed it on to them. So, yeah.
SPEAKER_11They have great tastes now. Thank you. They have great taste.
SPEAKER_02Not necessarily lo-fi, but she sleeps with a lot of like Mandarin type music.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, she heard Daf punk, she knows it's it's a cleaner day, so yeah, that's another one, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so yeah, so we listen to that whole we listen to the whole um the CD that they made a whole anime movie off. My daughter knows what song goes to what anime.
SPEAKER_02Oh, Interstellar 999, something like that.
SPEAKER_01Interstellar, yeah, whatever it is called. She said every single song with me. She knows what episode corresponds to what song now. It's like if I play uh a certain song off of the departure CD for the samurai shampoo, like discography, she's like, Oh, I heard that before. You played that, she just came out, she's like, You played uh 624 part one with me when I was four. Damn. So it's like that, yeah. That Tunami has messed up generation. That's generational damage right there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for me, I don't I think Toonami started which animes I watch because he'll tell you, I pretty much don't watch anything outside of Shonen. It's very hard for me because I don't like things with like very slow buildups. Like I need like if it's okay if the first episode has that slow buildup, but by the second episode, I need it to pop off. Otherwise, I'm gonna get tired. I don't want to watch this. Can we find something else? It's kind of how I felt about WandaVision 4.7. It almost got cut off.
SPEAKER_01Like, what is up?
SPEAKER_08Like you know, no blood yet.
SPEAKER_02No bites, no guns popping out, like what's going on? So nobody can make ask kids, no magic's happening, something. I need to do that. I mean an adrenaline rush. I mean that's because that's how I was in high school, like we an instant rate pop off. But that's how I like my anime too. So I mean, for me, yeah, I mean, I think the only one that's a little bit out of my zone was ReZero at first because it was that slow build and it's more so um a whore. But um over time, I think I was I got within and I like that. But I think for me, since I did watch so much shonen on Tsunami, it's very hard for me to go out of that bracket.
SPEAKER_05Logo. How did Toonami inspire your current anime game anime TV show in Cartoon?
SPEAKER_07Um yeah, now I'm I'm very much a shonen as bitch with like Jojo uh persuasion. Uh I I love a good brawl. Like like if if you you and another clan B fan, like just it ain't nothing to pull up like with like you pull up with the juice and pull up with the with the keep keep the zompacto keep keep that thing on you. Yes. You know, you know, like like you gotta hit her to the left of you that's gonna transform into a weapon. Like I I need like I I need all I need all of that. Like this is shown in gang gang, but like for Shojo, like I I I also live for Shojo. I I live for the gorgeous gowns, beautiful gowns. I I I I'm definitely a transformation as ass girl. Um I I I live for for all of that. Um so yeah, definitely open my eyes to more like the kick punch stab anime and the how are you doing today anime. So like I'm I'm always I'm always down to you know watch uh I I I definitely am more inclined to watch the action stuff, but like if if you know somebody wants to sit me down and you know watch one, which is like you know, a story about like you know the magic and friendship, I'm I'm I'm down with that too. Yeah, with the with the with the right party favorites.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
SPEAKER_06Um yeah, pretty similar to everybody else. Um it definitely uh let me know that I had a extremely uh heavy leaning towards uh Shonen. I think I think in general I'll watch anything that's that's well done. And and I think and I think my uh like proclivity towards Shonen really came in when like I was, you know, I was I was I think I think Dragon Ball Z is the first anime I watched that had actual uh choreography. Like like like nigga like niggas in the 90s was really just throwing the same punch and the same kick. And they they did they wasn't doing it any better than I could. And so like, you know, it wasn't but like watching DBZ, like these niggas was getting in actual fighting stances and actually doing things differently, actually like this was a fight, like that that was you know, and I think that's part of why it was so popular, and not to mention that like uh again, like you know, I'm I'm attracted to this general quality, and the shonen anime had all the money so they can afford all those different frames of animation and all those special effects, and you know, and all and getting into all the new like techniques because that's you know, because that's that's where all the all the money was.
SPEAKER_04So Aurora seems to have a how much we giving uh we giving DBC a little bit too much time because we don't need the let's be honest.
SPEAKER_06Uh we we've been here an hour and a half. You go give me my time. Yeah, about to say because uh because a lot of we wouldn't have got a lot of this this to Dabi shipping one for DBZ, so we gonna let we're gonna let him have his flowers so so how so how long yeah, how long are we gonna stay at the retirement home?
SPEAKER_07Because like we need to kind of move up.
SPEAKER_06I mean, that's cool, y'all can go, but anyway, as we were saying, grab me a bottle, grab me a bottle of waiting my time, yeah, and and and y'all full and apple juice and y'all full of shit because we talk about Robotech and Mac Cross, and y'all know about retirement home. And Astro Boy used to put it full of so call it what it is.
SPEAKER_07You ain't you ain't worried about oh because I'm okay. So my thing, my my thing is like all the uh all those other girls, like they're the aunties that don't get a whole lot of shine. DBZ is the is the old ass auntie that gets the most shine because she always brings like the the the flyest, the coldest uh potato salad.
SPEAKER_11So it's like though the chicken always didn't shake, yeah, even buttermilk crispy, yep.
SPEAKER_07Even though she says some even though she says some things that like uphold the patriarchy, like the food is good. So I can't believe we give her, yeah, we give her the most space. So that's the other one.
SPEAKER_11I'm not doing that. I mean, I'm not a big DBZ fan. I'm not only because uh Toonami, I would say fucked it up for me when it came to DBZ because they played the American version. So when they did the damn Frieza um arc and that shit was a whole month, I was like, I'm fucked. You know what I'm saying? But like I but again, there would be no bleach without DBZ. It just wouldn't be. We can talk and say, oh yeah, no, they it was the blueprint. It was so you know what I'm saying, like like DVZ, we love to hate it. You know what I'm saying? I'm not a big DBZ fan. The art, I don't like the art styling, but again, the the it was beautiful, it gave you scenery, it was crisp. Again, I don't like the aesthetic of it, but it was a phenomenal show when it came to the the villains were diabolical, the fight scenes were insane, and then also of its time, nothing was like it. But again, I didn't like Dragon Ball Z. But there would be no bleach, there would be no jujitsu kaizen, there would be none of the popular, there probably wouldn't be no fucking Naruto, which I don't like either.
SPEAKER_07But yeah, uh, yeah, orange two protagonists with yellow hair, yeah, there would be no Naruto.
SPEAKER_11You know what I'm saying? Like, look, but but again, there would be no um these popular show-ins, uh, I would say of the 90s and after without Dragon Ball Z. They paved the way for whether whether we like to, whether we agree or not is kind of how it is. I don't like Dragon Ball Z like that, but again, it is so much of a classic and it was so iconic of its time, we wouldn't have the shows that we had that we have today that we love without without Dragon Ball Z. So I have to agree with Kaze. We have we unfortunately we just kind of have to give it flowers. It's it's a completely different vibe from you know, Ghost in the Shell, completely different vibe. But it was a fucking classic that did hit, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06So yeah, it wouldn't hit.
SPEAKER_10And I mean, honestly, it's Aurora got all the I love baby.
SPEAKER_04I am ready because we got to do because and I'll and this is coming from someone whom don't get me wrong, I was I I love Dragon Ball, I enjoyed Dragon Ball Z up until a point. I think it was also the the freezer arc, but more so like the boo arc. Boo is whack, Jesus Christ. I can't like and I and I was mad because I actually fuck with Kid Boo like so much. I love Kid Boo, but as a character, but I don't I think I think we give it way too much only because we're American and we give it all this credit. Don't you mean um because I'm agreeing with everything you're saying? Oh, yeah, because I was like, there were a plethora of other animes out around the same time, especially if we're talking about because Dragon Ball's Dragon Ball was an 80s, technically an 80s cartoon.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04So there were others out before then, there was others out there in the 70s that were out before then. And I hurt in my personal opinion, I think the only reason why Dragon Ball Z was so prominent and stuck so hard was because it fit into the misogynistic world of man in power and wanting to it have that strong masculine prowess. Because if you're if we're gonna be completely the fuck honest, Dragon Ball Z was it to me, out the and as an adult looking back, I was like, it was not worth the hype. It probably was better as a manga than a show, but it wasn't worth the hype that was created around it, and then when you look at how the show was formulated and then the time frame of its popularity, I'm like that's why it's always that Dragon Ball Z versus Sailor Moon that like argument because Dragon Ball Z was pro like strong masculine men who were um oh sorry, sorry, um were strong, like strong masculine men, and then Sailor Moon was like these strong, independent, powerful women and all the other stuff. But it never it it I can sit and look back at Sailor Moon dub, mind you, what the the weather there's two English dub versions of it. So either I can watch either Sailor Moon dubs or the Japanese versions with the episodes that don't make it to America and all this stuff, and still be like, huh, this actually really isn't that damn bad. And they did a really good job of building out characters. I don't feel like for Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z. At least let me say it for Dragon Ball Z then, not for because I genuinely love Dragon Ball. I thought Dragon Ball was a key, but I don't while yes, everything that follows those two, you know, I guess you can say was the makeup because I'm I'm also not an Naruto fan. Not that it's horrible. Me neither, me neither.
SPEAKER_07Speak on it, speak on it, speak on it.
SPEAKER_04Girl, girl, don't get me excited.
SPEAKER_06I mean, this this ain't the anti-showed an episode.
SPEAKER_04But to also answer the the main conversation topic, I I know for myself, I learned I how I was into storyline.
SPEAKER_06You know, don't don't don't nobody need to argue for DBZ. The you know, history will do that. Um but uh I I uh the things it did well, it did, it did very well. Um and and and and and I'll and I and I ain't got I don't I don't care about none of the character, but Vegeta has one of the the best arcs uh still to this day. Like the the this the the the the nuance the nigga like it was it was you jumped into that nigga's head every time he came on screen because he was he was he was going through a lot. I love Vegeta death, but no, the uh yeah the I I love a Kiri Toryama's uh style to this day. I play I play all the dragon quests, uh every everywhere pops up. It's like you know, I think it has like a really timeless uh uh quality to it. And and he and he was certainly one of the uh the most uh talented uh manga uh from from especially like from that uh from that particular time period. Um because everything everything uh everything everything that was from back then don't don't look that good nowadays. Um but yeah, DVZ definitely uh uh helped inform uh you know what I was into definitely uh uh this let me uh pay attention to certain certain things like animation frames and uh when the you know paying attention to when uh you switched up your artists, okay, because like it like I knew I knew shit was about to get real because shit got real clean, real sharp niggas uh skin started getting reflection. I was like, oh like like you they they like you knew shit was about to get real, you know, and that's uh and matter of fact, that's called a Sakaga when the uh when the and when the animation budget gets a little boost.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, that this is where all the keychain money goes. All the keychains, all the video games, all the t-shirts, all the socks, all all the the flip the Gucci flip-flops, just like all of that. Like to go goes into these scenes right here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but but not but not not only like uh DBZ stuff like you know, stuff like the Gundam. I I had no idea. Uh like I will watch, I will watch like you know, like Robotech and the Voltron and the Matt Cross. And I was like, okay, yeah, no, that's cool. Uh but I think I think it took it really took Gundam Wing to let me know that like I was I I was I was into like a like a space drama. Like I was like it took like all those angsty little fucks to that I could vibe with. I love me, some hero Yui. Like he ain't with when he told when he told that girl he wasn't going to her party and she cried, and then he like walked up next to her and wiped around, wiped away her tear and then whispered in her ear that he's gonna kill her. I lost my shit. Just playing, just playing with her emotions. Like he kept trying to kill himself. I wasn't into that. I I get that part. That nigga was like, Oh, mission failed, time to self-destruct. That's like stop, nigga, stop, calm down. He's like, I failed. He's like, I failed, I don't deserve to go on. It was like, who did this to you? But but um nah, yeah. I definitely uh tsunami definitely like kind of uh re reinforced my like my shonen leanings, but also just like any, you know, I watch any if you're gorgeous, I'll give you I'll give you the time of day that that uh that extends past anime, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_09Um okay, Naruto looking for a Hinato.
SPEAKER_08I'm sorry, y'all.
SPEAKER_06I mean, he should have been, but he was stuck on Sasuke. But uh that part. But yeah, I was pretty much done now.
SPEAKER_04Um uh just so for me, I learned that I really do enjoy um animes that actually do tell a story, like and they take their time to really explain it. And it's where a lot of my uh my issues with a lot of these new fake ass attack on Titan fans, because we're not gonna we're gonna call it fate a state. A lot of motherfuckers was complaining after season one when they started doing a much more in-depth dialogue conversation, and episodes were not action at all, and they were just talking and it was giving a good background, and folks checked out, but girls find out oh, it's the last final season, and now all the girls want to show. Girl, get your ass out of my face. You ain't no damn fan, but girl, my partner just got into it, and he's like getting his life down. I was like, see, this is why you should have just enjoyed it when it was starting. It was a phenomenal show. It was like, especially the mom, it's amazing.
SPEAKER_02It is, it is the one anime where I enjoyed the storytelling because it leads to so much more than what you see right now, right? Right, right. That's what you have to sit, buckle up, and enjoy the damn. You can't you can't multitask on that, right? And all the people who was you know criticizing and talking shit about the writers, the producers, go fuck yourself.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, my my only issue with uh with AOT was they they watch yourself. I can see myself fine as I had this little square right there. But my my my issue, my issue was the uh see Caesar two had a definite uh had that definite change of pacing you were talking about. And and for me, it required uh a rewatch, which I did not do. So I jumped, I jumped, I jumped into Caesar two, and they start and they just started like this diving to all these little bits, and I was like, and I was like that's like five years ago. I don't remember what you talk about. So so yeah, so they so they lost me. It was a it that it was it was it was a mix between the the length of time in which it came out mixed with the pacing chase, and they definitely they definitely watched me. I went went back, rewatched it, you know, lovely. But uh but I don't but as a but watching it, watching it in real time, I don't think it was the best experience.
SPEAKER_11I agree, I agree with you. Like I'm all for like story, but for me, it has to be consistent. Like, if you're gonna come out with it for me, because my I'm impatient when it comes to really good animes. So if you have season one, which blew me out of the water, and then season two took so fucking long, and I I didn't have time to read like the manga, so I'm just like, there's events I just didn't remember, and then the pace was just so different. I'm like, you lost me. And then unfortunately, because I found other animes that kind of took in that place, and now I'm like, oh, people are like, oh yeah, it's really, really good. And now I'm like, okay, now I'm gonna have to re-watch the entire season two and season three to appreciate it. But for me, you can't come out with anime like fucking three years after, like two, three years, I'm gonna fucking forget.
SPEAKER_07You know, I'm saying for me personally, it's yeah, unfortunate, and unfortunately, that's how anime, that's how a lot of anime works because of like production issues. Yeah, and I I I understand I understand that, but like, you know, it's yeah, it is part of it. But I will yeah, I will say, like, they I I always I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Attack on Titan. It's the inspiration for my podcast cover. Um Big Boy Plug. But um yeah, there will always be on like the soft spot, like there's one specific scene. Um, I forget their names because like you know, I need to go back and rewatch, but like the two like like the two dudes who have been with them the whole time revealed themselves to be like the two big titans that they're that reveal and the the mus the music behind. I was like, oh shit.
SPEAKER_08You have not seen C before. Oh my god, that's not wait a minute, wait a minute. So we will talk about this again the next one.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, we're almost there. We're almost there, y'all.
SPEAKER_02We got we got about like two more weeks till the final episode, and then you know we got Easter, and then right after Easter, then next Sunday we're gonna be on Titan Titan.
SPEAKER_11I got some homework. Don't say too much. I got some homework. I will say nothing, but maybe.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So to wrap up the final question, uh, the doctor, your how did tsunami shape the anime and the show that you watch today?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I think if I just sum it up, the one thing that tsunami did for me really well, it expanded my consideration of what types of anime I might be interested in. You know, I think Sailor Mode is one of the big standouts because I swore that I would never be interested in Sailor Mode. You know, I just everyone told me that, you're like, oh, it's girly, you know, you won't be into it. And I really liked it. You know, I really like it to this day. So it really just taught me to, I guess, rethink my preconceptions around anime. You know, for all, if I had to pick one major thing, I think that would be it.
SPEAKER_05Mosquittles.
SPEAKER_10So um, much like everybody uh on the panel, uh, I am I am a shonen hay for sure. Um I I need I need the action, I need like I need the the the whack ass power of friendship. I need I need all of that. I need all of that. Um uh and so again, I I know we don't want to give Dragon Ball Z too much credit, but um Dragon Ball Z, out of all of the stuff that I watched after school, Dragon Ball Z was the only thing that I continuously watched after school. Um before I moved into like the late night stuff. Um because other stuff came on after school, that after school block, but Dragon Ball Z was specifically why I was there. So um, so Dragon Ball Z literally my shonen, my shonen head, dumb. Um I I I do enjoy other genres, uh, but just not as much. Like, like I know as far as the spectrum, like slice of life, I like I can't even, like I can't even do it. Not even, not even like I try, like I try every time I try to watch something's life of life, I literally be like, mmm, like fruit basket. Yo, everybody was talking about fruit baskets, and I was like, let me try it. And I was like, oh my god, what the fuck if I watch?
SPEAKER_07What the fuck do I use? I just somebody gonna pull up, like what's going on? Right, right, right, right. They're gonna pull up with the mail, they're gonna pull up with the mail, they can pull up with the milk, they can pull up with the Amazon delivery, but that's about it.
SPEAKER_10Right, so so yeah, so I'm definitely a showing head for sure, but um uh tunami definitely did that for me. As I've gotten older, I've slowly moved into other genres. Um also got me into uh sci-fi mech, um, especially with so I you know I I also enjoy those as well. Um but yeah, for the most part, Tunami and Shonen, and then um like Shampoo Braces was saying, fucking music, just just the music that I heard uh from Toonami completely like you know, like I mean, we both we all black here, whatever. You grew up in a black household, you've been listening to rap, hip-hop, RB, uh you listening to all of that stuff all most majority of the time. But when I when I started watching Tunami, it was just like, whoa, like I mean, I knew there was other genres, you know, rock, uh, you know, alternative, whatever. But it was just like, what like I feel like this is, you know, this type, this is my type of music. So um, so yeah, it definitely opened up a whole different um ear to to to different types of genres of music outside of you know what you would normally listen to in a black household. So uh so yeah, like all of that. All of that.
SPEAKER_06It's fun, it's funny you brought up uh fruits basket because I got I got my uh I got my ex into uh into anime and then and then she uh she didn't make me watch, but she was watching it. So I would get on and I was like, what the fuck is this? And I was like, I was like, ain't nobody like ain't nobody like hit nobody, and then I'll and then like three episodes later, so I was like, why is this girl so delightful? Like I was like I was I it I was definitely confused because I was like I was like this isn't on the list of any things I I said I liked, but um I'm suddenly caring about whether this nigga gets his dessert and and how this motherfucker gonna get changed back from a hawk because it's gonna be racist and and it was it was super it was super interesting that I think I think that was the first slice of life I I ever I ever watched that I was like super into but yeah.
SPEAKER_04So I have a question really quickly if I can ask. Does anyone like because I'm starting to wonder if I'm like the only person who does this? So and this might be because of my upbringing, but does anyone watch anime, any anime that has a lot of historical context behind it and or references?
SPEAKER_05Yes, yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_04I wasn't sure if I was the only one, because like so what do you mean? I can name all the popular stuff. So if like Grave of Fireflies or um Princess Modern OK, or uh like stuff like things that have a lot of grave context to not just the artistic style and the the popular things of anime, but also a lot of historical references and uh context to the country itself, especially during pre uh pre uh pre-medieval times or whatever cases, whatever time frame is. And things that I use, even like certain wars.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I love lore as like whether it be a documentary, uh cartoon or something like that. I'll I'll do that outside of anime as well, because it's just intriguing to see learn new things, you know.
SPEAKER_04It is it really is, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Ronnie Kenshin went in the went to nitty-gritty. They told you all you knew all about the animal period that made up yes, you knew when it ended, who was in touch, yeah, the officer's name.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, outside of anime. I mean, that's why I loved um uh uh Dynasty Warriors so much. And I didn't know it was, you know, I played it when I was like 11, and it wasn't until I was meeting someone, and they were like, Oh, this is based off of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Like, what? This shit real? So, you know, and then that opened up to Warriors Orochi, what that was the Japanese version of uh Dynasty. I have that. Yeah, and they talked about Nobunaga. I'm like, these niggas real, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_04So looking up storyline, they really be able to function.
SPEAKER_11It's great. Like it's some wild shit. So, you know, I'm playing um Dinosaur Warriors, and I didn't at the time, you're young, you didn't know, you know, you just say, Oh, the yellow turban rebellion. You're like, oh no, this shit's for real. Oh, the battle of TV, Hulal Gate. I'm like, oh shit, I know this story. Yeah, and you know. So it's interesting. I mean, of course, sometimes you don't even know what you're doing. You know, you're you're playing or you're watching something, and then when you find out, like, no, this is actually based off of real events, it even immerses you even more to pay attention now to the storyline, to the characters, to see how it correlates, to know the different dynasties, you know, to know who's a tactician, who CIE is. And it's just very, very interesting. And then you start finding yourself interested in history. I'm I'm really not like a history buff per se, naturally, but I do like to learn things that, you know, it could be based off of lore and history as well. Um, you know, for example, Lu Boo, they thought this nigga was not even real because he was just so fierce. And you're hearing like the legend about him in Chinese history while you're playing the game. And uh, even with Samurai Champlu, they were talking about how Christians were invading Japan. Yeah, and I'm like, oh, this is real shit. You know, and you wouldn't expect that because everything was just so so fire with the music, and then the style was different. And then they're like, no, actually put in some real shit in here, how the Christians were trying to out here just invade and set fire to shit. So this is very interesting. And uh, like again, you don't really know until you're you're starting to when when you're watching an anime and they actually put in history, you're like, wow, is this for real? And you look it up, I'm like, no, this is actually real based off of real events. So sometimes I think we do it without even knowing that we're doing it, and that even makes us appreciate it even more when we actually do find out that this is actually based off of true events.
SPEAKER_05So I don't know how we gotta have the history coinciding in an anime episode. Thank you.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's actually pretty fire. Question Yeah, I'm all about it.
SPEAKER_05Well to wrap it up, uh, did anybody else have any points relating to uh their influences of Tunami in anime show cartoons?
SPEAKER_06Uh I I will I will say that the one thing I left I left out because uh because we had that little interjection in the middle that I forgot. Uh was uh uh Tsunami and Tsunami actually made me, and I actually didn't know what the phrase was until recently, but Tsunami let me, you know, like I was big, big, big on Shonen, you know, show Joe's cool. Um but but actually it let me, you know, especially when we hit that uh that adult swim, we it let me know that like Sainan, which is you know the the anime for you know young adults and uh and uh and the older was like really really my shit. Like I hate I hate it, I hate it feeling like uh content was as as a child, I didn't want shit that was for a child. Like I obviously watched cartoons because they were funny or good or whatever, but I didn't I didn't I didn't I didn't like to feel like talked down to or handed something like simple, like I I wanted that like that nitty gritty, I wanted the blood, I wanted you know, I wanted to feel like I was like getting away with something and something that was that somebody thought wasn't for me. Yeah, and that's all that yeah, so see it. Tsunami definitely introduced me to the it introduced me, but let me know that like this is a regular thing, this is a bunch of anime just like this, right?
SPEAKER_04And and and you now you now you know where to how to what to look for and what it's called, they didn't say what it was called, but it's a prime yeah, I think Gen Z really don't realize what they they missed the prime of it and how great it really was because I was like, I as one of the people who like just got onto TikTok and the things that pop up on my my timeline, and like it's in one way I'm like so happy for them for them for there to be like such a huge community of folks really in the anime, especially that I'm like, wow, y'all was so young, and I'm like, bitch, if I would have had this at y'all age, do you know how happy I was then? Because black growing up in the hood with black parents, bitch, something was wrong with you to even be remotely into this stuff, like on all accords. And I was when I tell y'all I was a nerd nerd, I was a nerd nerd, like me and one of my white friends, like we were a group, and if anyone's familiar with uh Final Fantasy, we were called the Xanarkin Knights, we were a group of fucking nerds, like we were nerds to the T. So it's just it they don't realize like how great it was at its inception of like really hitting mainstream for real for real, as opposed to like they have they can access it so easily now when our ass had VHS and barely DVDs that we would hope had the damn subtitles because we were too young to understand the language. Like, we didn't have that option. Internet wasn't given, you could always just find it on a site.
SPEAKER_06Yes, yeah, it's like find this finding on LimeWire, MR Rominan the family community.
SPEAKER_07Yes, you gotta take your ass down to the Hollywood video, you know Hollywood video, Blockbuster, yep.
SPEAKER_04Imagine then the selection they'll be real swift. That's what it would be like a video now.
SPEAKER_10I was watching I was watching Devil Hunter Yoko with no no sons, no nothing.
SPEAKER_04Staring at you know what also I feel like we have, and I I feel like most I don't know if we tapped into it, but I feel like we all low-key picked up a second language without realizing it. Yes, and we just kind of actually put it to use because I understand a lot more even without the subtitles sometimes, not realizing that I do because of how much I watch in Japanese. Yes, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Right, right. Did I miss something?
SPEAKER_11Right. Or you're reading the English, you're reading the English uh somehow say, nigga, that's not what it is.
SPEAKER_08I'm like, that ain't what the thing is. That ain't it.
SPEAKER_05She said friends, she did not say friends.
SPEAKER_08I I love you. Okay, not the like you.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Pausing the video, jumping on Google Translate. You're lying to me.
SPEAKER_05So to wrap up this episode, three key things. One, I would like to give one final rose or an additional rose to the flowers to Miss Ryoko, because I didn't even know that she had ears.
SPEAKER_08I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_02So you had any ears though? Right. Right.
SPEAKER_08Right.
SPEAKER_11Right. What the yo, Miss Skittles don't even know how fine she fine though.
SPEAKER_02Like, what is like listen, the eyebrows. Do y'all see the eyebrows and the ice blue?
SPEAKER_08Eyeliner, done.
SPEAKER_11And you just only see it like from the collarbone up that you might as well.
SPEAKER_07This is all you get for free. This is product.
SPEAKER_04You gotta pay for the rest.
SPEAKER_02Y'all see your OnlyFans for a second.
SPEAKER_08Right.
SPEAKER_11But you know, Succi, I have to say that we would not be, I don't think there really would be a lot of cosplaying in America without Tsunami, to be truly honest. So I wouldn't, yeah, like I wouldn't be here. You know, Miss Skittles probably wouldn't be here. You know, a lot of other blurred cosplers wouldn't be here without tsunami because tsunami was really the main axis of us getting anime content so easily for our generation. So, you know, all these things that you're seeing, you know, the the characters we're seeing, we're like, wow, uh we can cosplay this outside of Halloween for fun. As a hobby, like we wouldn't, we wouldn't have this niche or hobby without tsunami. So tsunami has done a lot for our generation, uh mental escape, uh finding friends, uh, you know, we're able to uh talk amongst ourselves during a pandemic uh about nerd shit. You know, and uh we're having a two and a half hour conversation.
SPEAKER_05I I will say that not only and here I go reminiscing, but not only uh do I feel like you're you you wouldn't have had you know the ability to fully embrace your cosplay the way you're doing, I feel like you you eventually we all got old enough where we found anime in different places. Crunchyrolls now, Foundation, all these different things. But I think the fact that tsunami gave it to us at such an embryotic young age, it gave your creativity the ability to manifest itself so early. So now that you're at this point where you have access to all of these different avenues and places where you can see new characters and inspiration, if it had not been for tsunami at such a young age, middle school, high school, even elementary school for some of us, it would not have given you so many different points of creativity and points of character growth and points of costumes and you know identities and creatures and uh beings and people in your mind that you can take and partake from. It just it just wouldn't have been as verbose as it is right now. I do agree on that. My second point uh that I wanted to make was a correction to what I said about Tom. So Tom with the eyes was uh it's actually kind of sad. So Tom with the eyes wasn't in 2013, Tom with the eyes was 2007, and it was actually when they ended Tsunami the first time.
SPEAKER_07So the ratings went down that's the one I was referencing.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Tom with the Eyes, the ratings went down when that happened. It's actually kind of sad. He was only there for a year and a half, and we wasn't messing with it. We stopped.
SPEAKER_08What is this?
SPEAKER_05We wasn't watching, so nobody was watching. The ratings went down and they canceled Tsunami for about four, three or four years after that. So then they revamped it, they brought back original Tom with the muscles in 2013, and then they started showing a lot of the rebooted shows with a lot of the older shows that we remember, and then that's when a lot of shows moved to adult swim as well. Tom said, Hey y'all, we want that old thing back. So, and I think Tom is still out there. They actually, I don't know if anybody has seen it. I saw it, I love it. There's an anime Tom now. Uh, there's like a small, it's a small clip. They're trying to decide if they're gonna turn into a full-blown anime, so they need support. So if you can find it on YouTube, give it a like. Um, but it is I don't remember what it's called, but I'll send the link, I'll post it on uh on our uh social media page, but it's it's real dope. Uh but yes, uh final point is uh as we've said multiple times, Tunami has been the start of a lot of our uh anime-based journeys. Um, I don't think we would be into most of the things that we're into had it not been for Tunami. Uh, whether it be uh understanding that there are different color tones uh with different uh people and uh different uh beings, whether it be you know the anime that started us on the road to uh the different types uh and variety of shows and cartoons and anime that we watch right now, the games that we play, the people that we interact with. We might not be in some of the social groups that we're in right now had it not been with the anime that we watched, that we found out that somebody else watched it too. You might not have had nothing in common with the friend who maybe your best friends of this day, but found out they watch Sailor Moon too, and now all of a sudden y'all besties. So the different things that Tsunami did that introduced us to so many things. I know for myself, I would have never played a um a side-scrolling video game. Uh, one of the first ones I well, well, yeah, side scrolling video game, as well as some other fighting video games, had it not been for Tunami. Um uh Kaze can probably vouch for this, so can uh Shammy V. We would have never played um Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi or Budokai Tenkai T3 had it not been for Tunami, because I wouldn't have bought the game because a sunrise of some sense, but uh the things that Tunami introduced to us, which allowed us to be able to take it to the next level, and for that, I would say, hey Tunami, plug. Uh but anywho, um, let's go ahead. Uh, the actual anniversary of Tunami is on the 17th. Uh, so go ahead and share, you know, hashtag tunami, hashtag my history of anime from Toonami, whatever you like it to be. But give them their flowers, give them some props because they were able to make you into the anime person, gaming person, TV show person, cartoon person that you probably are today. So now we're gonna give the shout-outs, give our panelists the opportunity to boast themselves real quick, tell them about their social media, starting, of course, with our podcast, Blurred Spectrum Podcast, uh, on Facebook and Instagram. It is the Blurred Spectrum. Um, on Twitter, it is Blurred Spectrum. You want to shout me out or DM me. Uh, I'm on Umbral Umbral Starcade on all platforms, or most platforms, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Twitch, and there's something else I'm missing. I always forget it. Um also, if you want to send us a message about what we've said today, maybe add your favorite um uh show from Toonami or what inspired you to watch Toonami and how it's inspired you into the future. Send us a letter in our mailbag, the blurred spectrum, uh at umbralstarcade.com. Uh also let's give it up to our panelists, Kaze Shinryu. How can they reach you? Uh Kaze Shinryyu uh on YouTube and Sayone Cosplay, how can they reach you?
SPEAKER_11Sione cosplay on Facebook, Sione underscore cosplay on IG, Sione Cosplay on TikTok. So yeah.
SPEAKER_05We're gonna make sure y'all can see her as dot. I promise we will make sure. Uh shampoo bracelets.
SPEAKER_01Uh shampoo bracelets on Instagram. Instagram, there you go. And uh be honest, when she comes back, my brain only works in half capacity. That's just the way it works. So uh but yeah, shampoo bracelets on uh Instagram. We also have Shabby B87 on Twitter, and then uh you can catch me at Shampoo Braceless on Discord as well.
SPEAKER_00No doctor, Facebook.
SPEAKER_05Aurora, how can we how can they find you?
SPEAKER_04Um uh so I'm also a recording artist, so literally you can Google me, A-U-R-O-R-A L-L-O-Y-D. Um, yeah, you know, I'll be singing here and there, but uh yeah, uh currently working on my first album, which is also called Neptune. Inspired from Salem, thank you. Um you can find me on there.
