Welcome back to the Blurred Spectrum Podcast, where we are here this week to give you our fall and winter blurred cue anime review, where we're going to bring to you the animes that we watched last year, end of last year, going into 2022, and the ones that we're looking forward to in 2022, whether it be winter, spring, summer, fall, another winter, or so on and so forth. Anyway, uh, so of course, as always, I have to go ahead. What? Sorry, I got an email that said that I got a group on for Botox injections, so it confused the hell out of me.
SPEAKER_11Anyway, um, so we're gonna go ahead and start the episode first.
SPEAKER_02That is unnecessary because them cheeks be cheeking. Wow. Um, I'm gonna start by going in and uh introducing our panelists, starting with myself, your moderator, your host, Sucino Shogun. Uh also I have Ms. Skittles. I have Shinryu.
SPEAKER_06I don't even know.
SPEAKER_12I have Joe T S G. It's your boy the nigga. I have shampoo bracelets. I have Sione cosplay.
SPEAKER_02And I have the Black McCoy. Oh sure, niggas and niggas. Wow, that was so twisted. All right, so as I said, Blurred Q anime review. We're gonna go through the anime that we watched at the end of last year, give you our uh opinions, our feedback about them, maybe some recommendations of what you could potentially watch if you maybe are behind on anime. Uh, as I've never done before, but I've officially decided I'm gonna start doing. I'm gonna go ahead and say, spoiler alert, we will be telling what happened in these animes. So if you get upset, I'm not gonna say we don't care, I care. They don't care, but I care. Uh that uh you might be spoiled. So uh we're gonna give you our feedback from them and as well as tell you uh give you some recommendations on anime that either just started or that are coming out. Or you should have been watching.
SPEAKER_11All right, so who should we start with? Who should we start with? Uh Kaze Shinryu.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, as far as previous seasons, I've been I've been I've been kind of going through some uh uh uh not my my media consumption has not been uh heavily favored by anime. Uh but uh some of the things I did watch last season was uh Digimon Ghost Game. Uh it is uh starring uh uh his kid hero uh uh Manokawa. He's uh he's a middle school freshman at uh Hazakura Academy, uh who by activating mysterious digivice left by his father called oh wait, a mysterious device that's what his father called a digivice, has the effect of making unknown creatures that cannot be seen by ordinary people. Uh but no, I love the uh uh I love the the just the new the new that's really taking you out, huh? Hey, I'm I think one person everyone's gonna pay for it. But uh but no, I'm loving like the new uh the new the new flip on Digimon. I love that they uh that they're free to do like new and interesting uh things with it. Uh um I'm loving the the tone. Like I keep I keep have I keep wanting to check the rating. Like, is this like is this still for the Charens? Like, is that like did that boy die? Right, right.
SPEAKER_02Right. When they stole their entire like life essence, I was like, their time, you took their time.
SPEAKER_04You stole their future, like that's worse than death. Like they're still here to think about it. Like the years are called, but they get to just reflect on what they didn't have. That's insane. Um, but uh, but no, no, I'm not you know, I'm level I'm loving the darkness, the tone, the design of the new monsters. I'm actually not uh called all the way up, but I definitely look forward to uh uh jumping back up uh to where it is. Um, and that was uh mostly it. Uh did did uh probably should before, but did anybody have a Michoko Tensei on that thing?
SPEAKER_02I thought that was gonna be your one. Right. Oh, okay, but well here.
SPEAKER_03So it's my second.
SPEAKER_02I left that completely alone because I thought that was yours.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, no. Uh if if if you have not if you have not jumped on the Michel Kotensey train, uh good, it it will not slow down for you, but you need to jump on anyway. It's uh it's it's been such an amazing ride. The the animation, the the emotional payoffs, the the the meticulous character development, the the just the stark, the stark moments of honesty. The it's just like you know, like back back when this when the show was coming out, and and uh, you know, and I had like read, like I had read up that like this uh like when this manga came out, like this uh in the light in the light novels first came out, that did like that like that Isaka kind of took off right then and everybody was robbing this series blind of all the tropes and all the all the things that you come are come to understand in Isaka. A lot of them uh were born from born from or originated in Mushuk Tensei. And and now that it's here and being beautifully realized, uh and bless and blessing our eyeballs, uh I can I can completely see why. And if you have not seen this latest season, uh then you need to work on self-love and and just you know, really like if you thought if you thought your life was good, it was not. Um and uh, but you know, but this is a good opportunity for you to fix that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I have to agree. The the the the painstaking effort that the artists put in the fact that there is no opening uh uh uh opening um sequence, there is no opening music. I mean, there's music, of course, but like they painstakingly sit down and say, fuck these, you know, one and a half minutes that you thought you were gonna listen to a theme song. We're gonna show you all the money we put forth into this anime. The the the terrain, the mountains, the sky, the characters, like every character, like you know how you look in the background and the AI or the um the NPC doesn't have a face. Every character had a face, everybody had some type of interaction. People were doing things in the background, in the side streets or mountain terrain. It it was glorious, and then the spells were amazing. The story, just that first spell. My god.
SPEAKER_03On to that, like just the the the meticulous nature of not having like an opening sequence, like they still have opening music, but they don't have like a series of images like you see with most anime. It's like they don't waste time not being able to tell the story in some way, shape, or form. Like I think the the ending credits might be the only time where you don't get that aspect of storytelling, but then but also like you've been on a wild rock. Do they? I haven't really paid.
SPEAKER_02I mean, uh, for me, in the I mean, sometimes they do, but like no, no, for me in this last season, like if you if you first see the ending credits at the beginning of the seas the season, you're like, okay, this seems interesting. But then when you get to the end, like I would challenge anybody who's actually watched uh uh Jobless Reincarnation to go back and watch the ending credits now that you've seen the end of this season and like think about what happened during the season. You're like, oh shit, like this end, like the ending credits are almost like other anime's beginning credits, but on a far different scale. Like it made you think a lot differently about what exactly the ending credits really meant. But that that's just how I saw it. Go ahead. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, no, no, I was just saying that you know, the the way they handle not having too many superfluous um opening and intro and outro graphics and videos and stuff like that just shows how committed they are to telling a full story and using every ounce of time they have. Because even when the music is playing, you may not get any dialogue, but like you said, you see everything, they show you everything you need to see to give you a context for what you are going to be viewing for that episode, what happened in the episode before, and even after all of that, they'll still give you like an aftercredit scene sometimes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and they also uh will show you what they're doing in their downtime. Yes, and uh like and it's very like low, you know, like Lord of the Rings, where like you're getting like you're getting like all these epic like landscape shots, and uh and you just seeing them like chilling and not saying anything to each other, and it's like cause because everyone talking to each other all the time is not real life. Uh like you know, they they they really invest you into the setting. Um, and it's just it's a beautiful thing.
SPEAKER_02Awesome, awesome. Did you have any other previous reviews from 2022? Uh nope, I have shit I should have watched. Oh, and there we go. We will talk about the shit you should have watched momentarily. All right, the Black McCoy, since you uh added your spice to that particular uh review, you want to go ahead and give your one and or two, three?
SPEAKER_03Um, sure. I'll make my first one an anime that I was really excited for when we did our last anime um quarterly review, and that was the world's greatest assassin is reincarnated into an aristocrat. That show I opening sequence! That that opening sequence, I remember when I told I remember when I told Miss Skittles to watch it. I was like, girl, you're not ready.
SPEAKER_02This they because I remember when Suchi, when you and I watched it, we were like, oh they they oh, like I know I didn't even know how to feel because I normally don't let the black McCoy rewind scenes from like anime. We played the opening sequence twice the first time. Like it was it was but go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Like, I don't I don't even know what to describe the genre of music they used for that opening, that opening song, but it was just it was dope as fuck. And the the story itself that they told was amazing, especially how they're continuing to build upon the something that's very clearly underlined. Because you know, it's it's an isekai anime, but with a lot of isekai anime, you know, you have a tendency to have whatever deity who's in charge of reincarnating people is usually up to something very dubious, right? And they they make it very they don't make it extremely obvious, but they do hint towards like something's going on. Progressive they keep building upon that as the show goes on, which is one of the really awesome things about it, but they don't lean too heavily into it because you're very focused on the main character, how he's working to achieve his objectives and the things he has to work through and go through in order to do that, and how he's growing, and how not easy, but how how he uses his knowledge and skills from his previous life in his current life, which is uh a kind of like a reactualization of the person that he should have been, or I'll say, quote unquote, should have been in his previous life. So I like that they they build upon the kind of isekai, they it's kind of similar to Jobless Reincarnation, they give this character an opportunity to be something different and not continue to deal with a lot of the same things, or not even not deal with a lot of the same things in this really comical way. Because I think some depending on the depending on the isekai you are like watching, there could be a tendency to have some tropes that are very similar. It's like, oh, well, you know, they're basically the same person, just living in a different world and having to mitigate, oh my god, like how do I, you know, live in this world while still having the same habits and um pre-pre you know predispositions I had in the previous life. But no, it's like, okay, they become they're very made very aware I'm in a new world. This is what's this is what's going on. Um but he specifically has a mission, which is what which was which is what makes it more interesting. And so he has to, he ends up going from I'm here simply for this purpose to I and I'm rediscovering myself and learning more about myself um and what I want as a person, exactly, versus you know what I was made to be in my previous life and why I was reincarnated here in the first place. So I think that's one of the best aspects about the show. And the other characters are absolutely amazing. The relationships they build, phenomenal. Tarte, tart very authentic. Um, the story is written very well, the characters are written very well. They don't they don't dive too deeply into Mother of the Brothel. They don't dive too deeply into some of the some of the the pitfalls of other very stereotypical isakai anime, which I think is amazing. Um so that's one of my that's one of my shows that I continue to recommend, especially after having watched this first uh stint of the show. I think it I think the season's ended. Has it ended? Yes, it has ended. But they yeah, yeah. But um, yeah, absolutely. I would absolutely recommend watching this one.
SPEAKER_02My second before you move on to the second one, can we can we comment a little bit? Because you're about to speed up speed past, and I feel like Ms. Kittles and go for it, please. Okay, Miss Kittles, I'll let you go first.
SPEAKER_07I don't I don't know if anybody else walked in, but that should that shit is lit, okay? So I'm I I'm gonna go out there and say, y'all, y'all, everybody on this uh podcast know that I am a shonen head all day. Um so I I I'm definitely not an Isakai fan, and and I and I really enjoyed this um anime. Um there are there is like you know, there's real serious moments, um uh as the black McCoy described, like where the the main protagonist is, you know, um like just evolving from like comparing his his old life to to what he's doing now in this new um atmosphere. So I I like how he's like doing it in such a way, but it's it's growing, he's like growing from um and becoming, he's evolving into like an aristocrat, aristocrat, but also he is a dead ass, an assassin. Like that like that's that's like um but he's evolving, and I love that. Um, and I and I love like the the small, you know, there there's a little fan service in there, yeah. Um, but it's done tastefully and it's cute. Um and I appreciate it.
SPEAKER_03And I and I'm watching like fan service just be like, uh, but it's done like oh no, I'm gonna stand fan service, like it's not done with us beating you over the head with it.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, like uh what what is it? Um Fire Force. Ugh. The worst, the worst. Um, but yeah, so yeah, I just want to say that as somebody who don't even you know don't even rock with the isukai like that, you know, it's lit. It's lit. Not to mention I think I got a thing for white hair characters, so that is that is true.
SPEAKER_03And then there are plenty of things. There are plethora, there's a plethora. There are a plethora. And now that I think about it, he does give the kind of energy as a white hair character that you really just latch on to.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like like like a like a like a nephew of Gojo, kind of sort of um, so my my two cents on uh uh this this anime is um, and this is no shot at one of the people on the panel on the panel, but specifically I I've talked to several other people who uh saw the name of this, you know, this uh uh anime and they felt a certain type of way about it. And because once you see the word aristocrat, you're like, okay, this is about to be boring. And the thing about it is, and if you haven't seen it, I I don't well, I apologize. I don't know, they don't apologize, but I apologize. I don't want to spoil it, but I have to. So the the anime itself says that he came from as an from being an assassin to becoming an aristocrat in this new world, and realistically, he is an aristocrat, but his his lineage, his family line is an aristocratic assassin line of individuals, like his entire house and lineage are are people who serve the king of that of their nation as backhand assassins, not only assassins, but medical doctors. So it's like right, like like like it's it's it's not just like the the title is 100% accurate, but the you know, once you watch the opening sequence, you'll know some shit's about to go down, and within the first episode, you like bitch, I'm I'm I'm locked in. Then you get into the second episode. When they broke down the magic or the concept, let me rephrase that, the concept of selection magic in the world. I was like, wait a minute, what exactly is gonna happen in this anime? Because he's like, he's like selecting specific again, like the black McCoy said, basing it off of his experience, his assassin, uh uh uh uh his assassin experience from his previous life. He's basing his selection of these magic, the these spells, these skills, these abilities on what he feels like he will need to best uh uh um accomplish his task, which was given to him by the goddess, which was to kill the hero, uh, whoever the fuck that is. Um, now I'm not gonna go too far into it because like I said, I don't like spoiling things, but what I will say is that titanium spear, my nigga. That titanium spear that's that's all I'm gonna say. That's all I'm gonna say. Uh yeah. Uh uh the black and core, you can go on to the second one unless somebody else has something about you know the assassin.
SPEAKER_04You know, uh I I will say that was definitely me. Uh I wasn't gonna put you out there. I mean, it was it was it was one of those things because usually they'll uh you usually in these kind of overdone, overly long titles, they're they're very specifically uh uh have they have two different things that you kind of compare and contrast, like, oh this this thing is doing this completely different thing. And uh, and I and that's like the one of the interesting things that's supposed to be about the anime is it's like, oh, how how how are you gonna recontextualize what you learned during this, doing this? So, you know, so that's that's just the first thing you get from the next. And then I watch and I'm like, bitch, you doing the same thing. And you doing and you doing from the future, so you like you bringing back future tech into your into your same field. I got over it and I was like again, you're not making it and you're also way too good at all these other things that your former life should have completely prepared your for, but it's fine. I enjoyed myself. Um I was just I got caught on you cheating, bitch, and I just so amazed, and I'm like, you ain't shit ass nigga, you just right, like he didn't even need to be the best one from the previous world. He could have been average and still been better than everyone else now.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, that's true, and it's interesting because you say that, but like he also like learned a shit ton from his father in the new world, which is cool. But yeah, to move on to my my next anime, we're on to my next anime. Um, I'm gonna move into a different genre. My second one, I'm gonna go do two. My second one is uh Kome Can't Communicate. How dare you? Oh, that was not discussed. I'm sorry. Um, yeah, Kome Can't Communicate is one of should I should I pick a different one?
SPEAKER_11No, no, go ahead, finish. You better do it right.
SPEAKER_03Oh, get on the stage. Um, so Kome Can't Communicate is one of those shows that I was not, I didn't know what to really expect from it. Suchi No Shogun actually uh is the one who suggested that I watch it. And I was like, all right, nigga, all right, I'll watch it. And then so once I finally sat down and like watched the first episode, it was literally the most adorable thing I had ever seen in my entire life. And I've seen a lot of adorable shit, and I I myself am one of the most adorable things ever. So it was, it was, it was up there, and so I was like, so the premise of the show is about this uh this this was she in high school? Yes, yes, high school girl. Her name is Comey. Um, and she is the one of the most beautiful girls you've that you know in that world. And she has a huge problem talking to others because she has extreme social anxiety. Okay, right. So she has extreme social anxiety, and there is uh another student there named Tadano, and he's basically he's like astoundingly average as a person, but his skill is being able to he his skill is being able to read a room really well. And it's interesting because the school that both he and Comey attend is like known for its students having all of these eccentricity. And really like off-the-wall idiosyncrasies that make them so you know radically individualistic, so that they stand out and so they put them all in this one school. And so he ends up the abridged versions, he ends up befriending Comey and learning that she doesn't really have a lot of friends or any friends, even though she's idolized by literally everyone in the school, and everyone is intimidated by her, even when she's outside of school, except for like her family. But that's a different, but that's too much spoiler territory. But and what she ends up, what her end goal is is to make a hundred friends. Um, but because she's unable to speak to anyone, she's literally paralyzed by the by even trying to say hello to someone, she um she can't she can't communicate. And so what Tatano ends up doing largely in the series, become he becomes the one person, if not the first person, to fully and thoroughly understand her without her ever having to say a word, which starts to, you know, of course, foster this relationship between them that is unspoken for uh ironic and intentional reasons, but also really well done in a way that's paced very meticulously. And it's a story that's told not just through them and through their interactions, but through the interactions of those that are around them as well. And I think one of my favorite things about this like slice of life anime is that it brings I think it it heightens the awareness of social anxiety and people who experience social anxiety and those who and and those who go through uh difficult social situations. Because one of the things that they say before at the either at the end of or at the beginning of every episode, because I noticed at some beginning of some episodes they didn't say it, but they always end up saying it at the end of the episode, is that people um people who experience you know social anxiety, they struggle to form connections with other people. It's not that they don't want to, it's just that it's really difficult. And so each episode is Comey trying to do that and Comey having to deal with the different ramifications of that and having to at the same time deal with this high status that she has as the student at her school. So it's like everyone has this idea of her, but they don't actually know who she is, and so there's a large misunderstanding because she also because because she has this external persona, but no one has access to that like internal world that she has, it helps create a very interesting dynamic between her and the other characters. But because Tadano is the only one who has access to that internal world that she has, um, and for the entirety of her life been unable to really um express outwardly, um, she becomes much more fond of him. And I think the show is a great way to bring awareness to social anxiety, to bring uh more awareness to people as they interact with others and become more empathetic and understanding of the difficulties that folks may experience when trying to connect with other people. And um, yeah, I think it's a it's a beautiful show, very well animated, very well told. All the characters are entertaining. Every episode is a journey into what it looks like to be um just not even just a young person, but just a person in general trying to connect with other people um and really finally breaking through the mold, so to speak, of what that kind of achievement looks like for someone who has felt so distant from others for so long.
SPEAKER_02I 1000% agree. Uh, Comey Can't Communicate is everything the Black McCoy said. Uh, it for me, it allowed it allows you to see a variety of different levels of how to communicate if you can't communicate. Because each and every character, not just Comey, each and every character has their own um issues, I guess would be the worst word to use. Uh, but you know, has their own uh drawbacks to being able to interact with individual. Uh one of the uh characters uh is able to communicate with everybody, uh, like literally friends with every single person in the school, or at least has had some friend or acquaintance like experience with every person in the school, remembers everybody by name. Excuse me, everybody by school.
SPEAKER_03They have like, that's their like thing. They have amazing people skills.
SPEAKER_02Right. Um phenomenal people skills. But the problem is, or the drawback is their people skills uh uh get them as well as the people around them into different types of hijinks and issues because they're overly friendly and they're able to easily uh uh cause people to uh befriend them, but then in doing so causes some type of issue. So they're also a compulsive liar. Also true. Very, very, very bad. Um uh and then even with todano, uh his his interaction with it's interesting because you know he acknowledges the fact that he also has communication issues, obviously not as uh uh um severe as Comey, but you know, his communication issues, he he says he can read a room, but it's it's it's funny because the reading of the room is it's actual, but not as it pertains to say uh uh trying to help somebody else. Because he's paying attention to everything that's happening, but when it has to do with himself, he's like, oh crap. Oh, oh. And I I really myself, I connected with Tadano because I can read a room as well. But then when it has to do with me, I'm like, ah shit. I didn't pay attention to that part. I probably should have, yeah. Yeah, oh well, shit happens anyway. So uh, yes, I really recommend anybody uh uh to everybody to watch Comey Can't Communicate a couple episodes or the entire thing if you haven't already. Um, but anywho, uh, who would like to go next?
SPEAKER_06This whole process. Uh I don't think it's ready.
SPEAKER_03It was the peel back.
SPEAKER_06It was the process of eating the thing.
SPEAKER_02Oh lord. We'll go for sciome.
SPEAKER_10Um, so my pick was Platinum End. Um, so in the beginning, I I was I was suggested uh Platinum End by actually one of the panels in the group. I can't remember if it was Gwen, oh well um Black McCoy or um Suchi, but somebody suggested Platinum End to me.
SPEAKER_03It was me because I told you there was an angel in there. I was like, you would love to cosplay this bitch. Like I can see you like saying, like, ooh, damn, you know what? I could wear that.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, so the the I had high hopes for the anime because uh the the the premise of the anime was interesting. So it's about a boy who um who's depressed um and he has uh a lot of strife in his life. His parents were killed in a car accident. Um I don't know if it's a car accident, but he was killed. All he all he knew that his parents died, but he didn't know how his parents died. Um, he was living with his aunt and uncle that were abusive to him. So it just kind of drove his depression um further. And he, the first episode, you see him trying to commit suicide. And um then you you find out that an angel saves him from committing suicide, and and there is this whole entire competition going on in heaven um because God is going to retire being God at 999 days, and um, he is a perfect candidate to be uh possibly the new God. So I'm like, oh okay, this is very interesting. And I kind of compared it to um I forgot the anime with the mask, like it was at Esekai, um, and everybody wears masks, and it's like, oh, you know, you're going to be the the new god. I've I I forgot what anime that was. It was do you know the anime with like everybody has like a smiley face or a sad face? Um, but it's like a white memory.
SPEAKER_03Oh, um yeah, I know the one that was on Netflix. Um something.
SPEAKER_10I forgot what it was, but it would kind of remind me of that. It was trash, I hated that. Um it wasn't a good anime, it wasn't a good anime.
SPEAKER_07That show is dumb as fuck.
SPEAKER_10I didn't like it. Um, only because I thought it was just corny, but I forgot uh anyway. It kind of reminded me of that because you kind of hear people like, oh, um, you're a candidate to be the new god, or and I always find that fascinating because I'm like, you know, what makes a human high rise invasion? Yes, high rise invasion.
SPEAKER_03I could not get past those first three episodes. I was like, sorry.
SPEAKER_10That that was a struggle to watch. But going back to um Platinum End, which was also a struggle to watch because the it was it was hard for me to watch it. Um, and I the art was beautiful, the character design was beautiful, but the main character reminded me too much of the guy from um oh my god, I'm running a blank. Uh Miss Skittles, you cosplayed um this guy with the one patch eye and like the the map the smiley face mask. Um like you cosplay and wait. Yeah, which anime was that again? Tokyo Ghoul. Tokyo Ghoul. He reminded me of the guy from Tokyo Ghoul, which I hated because he to me he was just a punk ass bitch.
SPEAKER_01I kind of said I kind of said the pointless, to be honest, because at the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul, he is a person. He said, Are you talking about King himself? I'm talking about the main character because he was I can't I can't even becomes, and we don't see that with platinum engines, but this is really the same way.
SPEAKER_10Kennedy just having the disrespect to just having for my own really it's the bonnet, maybe that's why she said it. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02And and and then use your cosplay against you, like playing that bitch ass nigga, right?
SPEAKER_07Hell no. Okay, ladies, you're I watched seven episodes of this platinum end shit.
SPEAKER_09Like, don't don't give me I didn't I didn't sound like we went through some good some real shit.
SPEAKER_10I'm saying we're on the same page when it comes to the frustration because I had high hopes for platinum end. I loved the character design, I love the angels, I love, even though personally I do think that they could have gone a little bit harder with the angel design because angels are ethereal, there's so much you can do with it. So I was a a little bit uh disappointed with some of the designs, but it was still interesting how angels ain't shit. And we've seen that across different shows, how angels have their own uh way about doing things, and some of it is diabolical. So I did think that was interesting how all the angels had their own personalities, but the main character reminded me of that that that nigga from Tokyo Ghoul. He was a punk bitch. For I listen, I watched all Tokyo Ghoul, and he was good the last fucking episode or two, which was I watched the whole season of that's what I was just gonna calm down and say, Okay, they said the first couple episodes when he was in the coffee shop, whatever.
SPEAKER_02You talk about you watch the entire thing, and you said until the last three episodes he was above this.
SPEAKER_10I watched the entire Tokyo Ghoul, and I'm telling you, majority of the episode. Listen, every every anime character that is like a protagonist, they have their coming up phase, you know, where they cry, oh whoe is me. I want to be stronger. Why can't I be stronger?
SPEAKER_01No, this body, this body, my question is you watch Tokyo Ghoul, did you watch Tokyo uh Re Tokyo Ghoul R or whatever? The second portion of it?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_10No, I watched the first season and I was I was turned off enough of it that I didn't go further from that. So wait, wait, so you didn't watch all of it?
SPEAKER_03No, the D was too much in the round two, no, I'm gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_09I don't want people to be trash.
SPEAKER_01So here's the other part about that. The other part about that is this I kind of feel bad for anybody that watched the anime because the anime is shit all the way through. Read the manga. For the love of God, read the manga. Please, God, read the manga. Please God read the manga. Like it's like because the anime, there's a lot that the anime, even in the second part, Tokyo Go RE, there's a lot of the anime fucked up. And they put it, they try, but there's a lot of shit that they cut out that's really detrimental to connecting to characters. And it's like, and it can show, it can show a lot of the growth that he goes through. And like it's kind of the anime is kind of rough. I kind of understand it. Like, even in the Tokyo Ghoul, the way they did him in Tokyo Ghoul is kind of shit, even towards the end of it, because uh how they had him go through that whole transformation when he has his friends walking. Because if you ever see Tokyo Gulli, now fuck you. He has uh if he has his friends carrying him, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Hey, hey, hey, hey, I don't mind you spoiling it. What I'm saying is I don't mind you spoiling it. We're trying to do an anime review, and Tokyo Goo came out years ago.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we can we gotta go back.
SPEAKER_02We gotta go back. We'll have it, we'll have a Tokyo Boom episode. We'll have a Tokyo Boom episode. I didn't start it today, dude.
SPEAKER_03We'll come back to it.
SPEAKER_10I was trying to use the main.
SPEAKER_03I'm so happy we did this today.
SPEAKER_07I wasn't trying to cause no problems. I could do without it. I could do without it.
SPEAKER_10I wasn't trying to cause no problems. I was just trying to, I was trying to compare um the main character to another anime um that I just I really didn't sit well with me. Um, and for me with um with uh Platinum End, I was expecting to see some character growth. Um I'm still not finished. I think I'm on episode eight, but I didn't really see much character growth at all. And usually within eight episodes of a season, you're kind of getting prepared for at least the halfway point or the end of a season. And I didn't see that yet. And so that kind of lost interest with me. Um, I don't know. It just flattened men missed the mark for me. It I I hope that if there is another season, it does better. Um, but you know, the even the fighting styles, um, it it so basically you have these different arrows that the the uh candidates can be blessed with by their angel counterpart. So the main character is Marai, and uh Nasi was his angel guardian that is kind of his mentor to possibly be a god candidate. And then um Marai had a love interest named Saki, and Saki had a also uh was also a uh a god candidate as well, and that was um his love interest from school. Um, so you see this interesting, um, I guess, connection somewhat, but even I just I don't know, it just felt like there were holes that were missing, like with the love interest, with the connection, um, with the the the main character. It just felt like I was watching, it felt like I was in the middle of a story, and there was really no growth, so to speak, for me to be interested in the character or growth enough to me to keep watching. So I just hope that more so I know this is not a positive review, but it is still a review. Um I just hope that there is there is something um that is that is gonna come from this this season, so to speak, because it just missed the mark for me personally. But the art was beautiful. I had a lot of cosplay, um, a cosplay interest, especially with the angels. Um, I love the rings um on top of their head. The rings were to basically uh tell you how powerful they were. The enemy was called Metropolitan, which kind of just came out of nowhere for me. I don't know, it was just fucking confusing. So um, more so as you just had these people that to be a God candidate, you had to kill one another because they wanted to reduce the competition. But even still, I just felt like it just missed the mark. I wonder if it isn't a manga, so I can maybe um you know passion the holes of the anime, but I was kind of disappointed watching watching for what I've watched so far of that anime.
SPEAKER_03Well, I will say as a as a as a slight defense of Platinum and uh so for those of you who don't know it, it comes from the same creator.
SPEAKER_05What?
SPEAKER_12Um there's no defense.
SPEAKER_05What defense?
SPEAKER_06Let them finish.
SPEAKER_03Thank you. Well, for those of you who don't know, Platinum Man comes from the same creator as uh Death Note. So I think that the uh I think that the the idea of like being I didn't like Death Note. Nigga, you didn't even watch Death Note exactly.
SPEAKER_07I I do I did like Death Note, Death Note I didn't like Death Note, so you didn't like exactly so I'm not gonna I'm not gonna do the mark thing and go down a whole Death Note defense, I'm gonna leave it alone. But you actually watch Death Note I did watch it, I watched all of it, but I tried I've watched it multiple times, and you enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_09I didn't enjoy it, yes.
SPEAKER_00But you didn't enjoy Platinum End?
SPEAKER_09I didn't enjoy I didn't enjoy I I think the reason why I didn't like Platinum N, who means Ms.
SPEAKER_00Kittle specifically.
SPEAKER_09Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00No because there's no way you liked Death Note and you did not like Platinum N. Literally they're the same anime.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, it makes sense now. No, now I know why.
SPEAKER_00Depressive as interesting as Deaf Note characters in Platinum. I don't necessarily think any of them were really interesting in Defnote, except for the the um what's his name? The demon dude.
SPEAKER_05Ryuki.
SPEAKER_00Ryuki, yeah, thank you.
SPEAKER_04No, like no, light was hilarious. I love it. Yeah, I love I love those little idios secrecies. Right. They were they were intelligent, the the mysteries are actually well concocted. There's much, there's much to like in Death Note that that is not found.
SPEAKER_02I found that shit so like I said about the other side bar.
SPEAKER_03Anyway, so back to Platinum. So I think that um one of the things about Platinum and that distinguished that is similar to Death Note is that it tries its its best to ground itself in like human actual human emotion and interaction and things like that. I think the difference, the the issue with Death Note, well that issue, but the difference with Death Note is that we get this hyper intelligence, but these are really simple people for the most part. Um, these are really grounded, like for all intents and purposes, these are the worst metaphor possible, but these are people who are at their lowest points in life because all of the ones that they are chosen to that are chosen to be God candidates are people who are were literally about to kill themselves or have been contemplating ending their own lives. And I think as someone, like, and you know, inserting myself as someone who has survived suicide suicide attempts multiple times, um, it's very interesting to see this kind of story um happen in the first place. And so some of the complaints that I hear from you all um about the main character specifically, they don't make sense to me because I understand seeing the kind of person that he is, as far as, you know, he's not a very vengeful person. He's extremely kind, he was raised to be extremely kind, he still holds the values very close to himself that his mother and his father instilled in him and his family, and his family life originally instilled in him, and still suffered so much throughout his life at trying to hold true to those values because the values that he saw in what made a good person were what constructed his family unit to begin with. And after losing that and trying to kind of latch, continue to latch on to that by maintaining that um that um that uh you know, I guess I'll just keep the same language, that same, that same value structure um, even throughout this God selection process. Because he didn't even want to do it, like he was ready to 86 the shit off together. He's like, nope, I don't want to be in this, I don't want to do this, I don't want to be, I don't want to be God. Like I don't want to go through this process, especially if my life is at stake. No, fuck that. But he continued on anyway because there was someone that he cared about who was involved in the process, and uh ultimately he it it's progressed from my perspective, the story of Platinum and is progressing from someone who had nothing to live for to someone who finds something that they someone or something they want to live for, and largely what began his journey in the first place through everything he's going through is because he just wanted to be happy. That's all he genuinely really wanted. And for someone who was literally about to fall off a fucking building to get these wings and these arrows and realize oh, I can finally achieve this happy life that I want. I just like the the the bare minimum of contentment with one's life. And then be thrusted into this entire situation that they didn't really want to be a part of, but now keep they keep finding new things to fight for and to live through live for throughout this process. It's almost rather it's more like a it's like watching someone who is at the bottom continue to have to build up gradually. And I think that it's hard to watch because a lot of the protagonists that we've seen when it comes to certain anime like this, they have really high stakes. They've always had this extreme um this goal. We've always seen an Arto or a Midoria or we've seen a Light, or we've seen um that nigga in Black Clover who screams too much, whose name I can't remember. Um Asta, there we go. We've seen an Ishigo, we've seen these characters who are, you know, taking up arms to pursue this goal, this uh thing that's been put in front of them. But we don't have that kind of person now. We have a regular person who has been downtrodden their entire life, who live who's about to kill themselves, but then was given a glimmer of hope. And we have to watch them go to something a bit higher. And I think it's hard to watch because it's not a lot of things that people, it's not something that we see very often in anime. Because usually when we see a lot of characters who are downtrodden, we don't oftentimes see them have to gradually and quote unquote, you know, um I use this term very loosely, realistically, ascend the psychological and emotional barriers to what it means to get to a more stable place.
SPEAKER_01I got a question about that too. And uh, as I was just thinking about this, is it as you're describing the other characters you just named with the with the Ichigos and the Naotos, they all have something greater that they want to attain to when they'll go through whatever needs they have to go through to get it. That is it that is it that this character isn't like that, or is it that this character is like that and he's just willing to die on this hill? Because you gotta think about it.
SPEAKER_03I would say it's more so that he's not like that at all.
SPEAKER_01I don't, I don't, I got questions about that because you always at one point he literally comes out and says, I just want to live a normal life and find happiness in that normal life. Now, here's the thing about that. He's willing to die on that hill because the one thing he says is, I'm not gonna kill anybody. I'm not in his normal life, he's not about killing anybody. He's literally willing to die just so he doesn't kill. So isn't that he doesn't have he isn't that he doesn't have the let me say it like this? Is that he has a goal and he's willing to go through those the same type of ties to achieve that goal, it's just because it's in a different lady, a different end of the spectrum, it doesn't look the same. Because he's still willing to die for his shit. Like it's just like he's still out here willing to be like, no, I'm gonna I'll sacrifice. I'm just not, I'm just I'm sacrificing to not to not kill, take a life. I'll sacrifice myself to not take a life. I'm not gonna actually kill for this happiness. You know, I I'll achieve my happiness. I would rather achieve my happiness without taking a life and I'll die for that.
SPEAKER_03I think it's a mixture, I think it's probably a mixture of both, more so one than the other, because while he's willing to, he it's I think it's less so that he's willing to die on this hill, but more so that he knows what's meaningful to him in this life and he knows the kind of values that he holds true, just you know, like I was saying earlier, just because based on how he was raised and how his family was and the things that his like the flashbacks we see of his the conversations he's had with his father and of his mother and his mother, he was, I don't know, he was he was a child, child when he had those conversations and they stuck with him. Like they really, really stuck with him. And after he lost them, I think those are the only real echoes of them that he really had left. Uh, and so latching onto those and staying true to the people that he loved the most and who loved him is largely what contributes to, I guess, what you were saying. And I don't think it's more so that he's willing to die for those things, but he's willing to stand up more so for the kind of person that he was raised to be, in even though he missed out on the rest of his life, you know, with his family, like the kind of person he was raised to be, and the kind of persons he saw his parents to be, and his sister and his family, like his family members, his immediate family, because the rest were trash, obviously, um, to be rather than I guess like an Ichigo who gets kind of thrusted into this role and ends up being this, you know, really powerful person that everyone continues to turn to, or like a Naruto who's like trying to, you know, be the head of the village, or like Light, who is trying to be the god of the new world, or someone like that. So I think it's more so that his aspirations are, they aren't these really fantastical, um, high-tier aspirations. They're very baseline normal. And I think that's what I'm more so trying to say that what he wants is what we expect baseline from human beings. And he is, he, we, when we meet him, he's already well below that. Because, like I said, like the premise behind the impetus behind the angels choosing the guy candidates is that they are about to take their lives and they have nothing to live for. And even in the opening sequence, when we see him, like he's already falling off the building, he'd already made the choice. But an angel came by and swooped his ass up and said, Hey, so I know you're about to die, but hear me out. I got something for you. And and just kind of, and he finds that, oh, with this like new power or whatever, I can just be happy, I can live a normal life. And now he's being put into something beyond that that he didn't want to be a part of. And it makes me think that as we go through this story a bit more, we get a chance to see what it's like for someone who goes from having nothing to live for to finding more things to live and fight for, especially because, like later on in the season, spoiler alert, um, later on the season, we actually see him become much more aggressive when having to defend and when having to fight, because we didn't get that energy from him before. And even his angel notices like, oh, he actually used his arrow. He actually did this, he actually did that. And so she is alongside him noticing the progression that he's going through in the same way that we are, because his journey looks very different from a lot of the typical heroes' journeys, quotation marks that we've seen a lot of other protagonists go through in anime.
SPEAKER_02You had a point.
SPEAKER_10Um, so everything that the Black McCoy is saying is I I very much agree with. I think my biggest issue with Platinum End is the storytelling. Um, like I said, there were I felt like there were holes in the anime because I if I'm confused or if I feel lost, to me, that's usually like, okay, something with the storytelling is is not complete. And everything that you're saying, as eloquent, as eloquent as it is pertaining to the character, the anime failed to really show the the the feeling of of that hopelessness of the character. Like I felt like I needed, I needed to feel everything that you said, I needed to feel that from how the anime should have presented that to the watcher. And I didn't feel that. Um, you know, what grabbed me first was seeing, you know, the protagonist could trying to commit suicide. I'm like, whoa, whoa, wow, this is very different. And again, that was that was what I love. I'm like, this is something I never see in an anime. You never really see a character starting at the very, very bottom like that. Um, you know, maybe talks about suicide, but not actually witnessing it um at first hand. So that was like, oh wow, this is this is something I really need to watch, because that kind of you know hit home a little bit. So I was like, okay, this is something interesting. I wish that they shared more of the progression from being at that low point. Like, I wish it was more psychological, I would say. And I feel like it would have hit different with me personally, what watching the psychological journey for that character and then really seeing more character growth because there's a lot of there's a lot of, I would say, layers of feelings when it comes to a character. Everybody's uh, you know, view of falling into the void is different or why they do it. Um, and I felt like all that we know is that his he found out his parents were killed by his aunt and uncle, but it didn't hit hard. It didn't hit hard for me as it should have. I felt like the anime did not do the main character story justice for me to feel that ghoto reaction, like, damn, he was really fucked over and he's really trying hard. And I think that's just more so the storytelling. And I don't need like a whole entire chapter just based off of the side story or backstory, but I felt like for someone who was going to commit suicide and who didn't want to do anything with being a god at all, he just wanted to have a happy life, it didn't hit as hard as it should have. I felt like they did a disservice to the character, the main character. And aside from that, they did disservice with his character growth and they did disservice of explaining the story for me. And that's really what it was. I feel like it could have been a phenomenal anime if they took the time more so to really be more detailed and in depth with the character. Because for me, someone who struggles with depression and had to and has suicidal agation, I was like, oh yeah, he was suicidal. But now I'm giving you an opportunity. I'm like, no, there's like I I just I don't know. I just felt like it was it was a it was a missed mark for me. It was a missed mark for me. It was a disservice to the character, and it was a disservice to people that are going through that. Personally, that's just how I felt. So I just felt like it missed a mark in a lot of a lot of ways. And it and it and I feel like a lot of watchers um deserve better.
SPEAKER_03My only last point would say just to give it a little bit more of a chance, only because just based off of the premise of the show and where they're starting with it. Sorry, I put some breadcrumbs, some stale breadcrumbs on my patio for the birds, and I just saw like two or three fighting over it. It was like real WrestleMania style. It was kind of entertaining. I was still listening to them. Um but no, I would say give the show a little bit more of a continue to give it a little bit more of a chance, partly because they're trying to juggle a lot of different things. Like when they're jug, they're juggling a whole like uh a whole cosmology of what it means to, what it means for God to exist alongside what it means to be human, as well as um being depressed and suicidal, and you know, finding things to live. Like I think the show is juggling a lot of different things, and I think giving them more opportunity for because this doesn't seem like a one-season anime. Like I at least see, at least see two, two and a half, to maybe two or three seasons out of this show, because they have a very long story that they seem like they're trying to tell. And I don't think one season's gonna wrap it up entirely. Um, but I think that giving them the opportunity for more contextual, contextual, retroactive storytelling might be what helps satiate that a bit more. But this is just me like guessing. So I would say stick with it just to see, continue to see what happens. Um, because we don't know what I don't I don't think I have I'm a couple episodes behind because holidays and stuff, but um, I would say give it some more time, give it some more time. I think the story that they're focusing on right now is the the God candidates fighting amongst themselves. Because I don't think the god candidates actually have to kill each other, but that's also one thing that's just that stood out to me that even though the God candidates didn't have to kill each other, that's how that's what it's devolved into. And that in and of itself is a larger part of the conversation of you know, humanity and godhood and et cetera, et cetera. So I think there's a lot going on here, and it's just difficult to juggle all of that in anime form um for a show like this, maybe. So I don't I don't know if it's gonna get better later on for those particular complaints, which I completely understand. Um, but I I'm I'm hopeful for it.
SPEAKER_10Okay. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I took more time than than most with this show. Um, I'll just go rush and um talk about the two that I'm uh excited for for 2022.
SPEAKER_02Not yet. We're gonna come back to that.
SPEAKER_10Oh, come back. Okay, I'm done then.
SPEAKER_02Nope. Uh shampoo bracelets. Specifically, Dr. Quinzel. Do you have your anime that you watched last season?
SPEAKER_08Um yes. So the anime that I really enjoyed out of all the well, almost all, um, was the new Jojo Stone Ocean that came out. Um that premiered on Netflix. Um, so pretty much it is about Joe Taro's daughter and how her and her boyfriend were like, well, I'm just gonna give you the first episode. Um, were driving in a car, he ended up hitting a guy. Um so yeah. So then the boyfriend pretty much framed her for murder after somebody. Yeah. Frame her for the murder, though, instead of you know, both of them taking the phone or just being silent. Yeah, he was a trifling.
SPEAKER_07So then why you know you can't trust niggas either. That's sound like that sounds like some shit Dio would do. Reincarnate it.
SPEAKER_03Let me reincarnate it to a Joe Star.
SPEAKER_08It's in the bloodline. So apparently, um Joe Taro actually left his daughter. I don't know if you all remember from the last Jojo's that um like scared where if you prick your finger, you get powers or whatever. Um, so her finger got her mom gave it to her because her dad said to keep it to protect her, you know, prick her finger or whatever, and she ended up with powers. I'm not gonna go into what her powers are, but let's just say she got the lawyer and the boyfriend within the first episode. Okay. So a whole bunch of crazy shit happens. Jotaro, French and T steps on the scene about the third episode. Um this was actually one of my favorite JoJo's outside of when we were first introduced to Jotaro. Um the only season I didn't enjoy was the one before this, which was season four. I just I it I couldn't get into it. I don't know what it was. I couldn't get into it. Season three was a slow build, but season five, that first half, I was mad that it cut off after 12. Um, I'm not sure when the second half is coming, but I definitely can't wait for it to come out. And I can't wait to see the cosplays that happened this summer for this for this uh anime alone.
SPEAKER_02Shammy B. Do you have any uh either anime or as our uh Regent? Yes, as our Regent manga and webtoons expert, our subject matter expert. Do you have any recommendations for uh 2021 manga or webtoons that people should uh l look into that you've already reviewed?
SPEAKER_01For 2021 manga, read Kaj number eight. And for webtoons, read the boxer.
SPEAKER_02Want to give us a little bit about it.
SPEAKER_01Huh?
SPEAKER_02You want to give us a little explanation on what those are?
SPEAKER_01Um, especially for the boxer, especially with a boxer, just know the box is really dark and depressing. I'll give you all that. Uh kaiji double eight, you give it a shot, see what you think. Um, yeah, that's all I got.
SPEAKER_02And then you also I think you said earlier that you also watched uh Supercruits.
SPEAKER_08No, we didn't finish Super Cruits, we're like in the middle of Supercruits.
SPEAKER_02Do you suggest it for people to watch?
SPEAKER_08Um, from the first couple of episodes that we've seen, yes, I would suggest to watch that. I think we're right before they do this really big heist. Um so I I would suggest to watch that. Um, I just haven't finished it yet. Trying to balance between Demon Slayer's tackle on Titan right now. It's good, it's good.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and then uh Joe Ts G, uh, what is your uh previously recommended uh or I guess what's the anime that you reviewed?
SPEAKER_00I'm sorry, my body is starting to shut down. Um we're talking about from last season, correct? Yes, okay. Um, so that anime is the vampire dies in no time. Um, so in the I guess I'll spoil the first episode somewhat. So we're introduced to this vampire hunter named uh Ronald, who receives a job to infiltrate the castle of a vampire to rescue um a village woman's uh son. Um but then he goes there and he's like going through the castle, he ends up finding uh the vampire who is taking residence in this castle and um tries to attack him, but the guy, the vampire ends up tripping and like turning into ash. Um, and then you start to realize that he's actually an incredibly weak vampire, and he's like the vampire hunter starts to interrogate the vampire to figure out like where this boy is. Come to find out the kid is like in the vampire's den playing video games while the vampire was asleep. Um, and then uh they kind of start tussling again, vampire turns into ash, traps start getting um activated, and then the castle is destroyed. And so now you have this like the vampire who's like, Well, where the fuck am I gonna live at now? Um, and so he ends up moving in with the vampire hunter, uh, and they just start getting into like wacky circumstances.
SPEAKER_12Um shut up.
SPEAKER_00Um it is a comedy, essentially, so there's not a lot of action in it. If you're that's not what you're really into. If you're looking for more of a kind of chill, oh, I'm cleaning my room, and I want to watch something too as well. It's a great show for that. Um outside of that one, there weren't a lot of the shows from last season. I started to drop relatively quickly. Um, Platinum and uh Job was Reincarnation. While I enjoyed the fuck out of it, I will say by like the last two episodes, I was kind of like, okay, I'm ready for the story to end. Umy can't communicate. I think I stopped watching it episode five. Uh because while I love Khomey, it started to trigger me a little bit because I was like, oh, I see a lot of myself in her. Outside of the beauty, I I see myself in her.
SPEAKER_03Um that's right, baby. Let these bitches know.
SPEAKER_00I mean, as as far as just like the like I was one of those kids that could not communicate communicate as a kid, so I can I I can definitely relate to a lot of that. Um and yeah, that that's that's it so far. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Awesome sauce. All right. So I have a bunch of anime, but I'm not gonna give all of them. I'll probably just talk about two or three and then give my honorable mentions. Um, so the I'll just start with this one because I've tried to make, if not half, most of these panelists watch this damn anime because it's amazing and they all could benefit it from it greatly, but they refuse to watch it. And that anime is blue, period. I'm gonna keep shouting this from the rooftops to you, motherfuckers. Watch the entire thing. I liked it before. We did the last anime review. I'm gonna talk about it now.
SPEAKER_00Sir, sir, calm down. I did watch it.
SPEAKER_02It's actually fun. Y'all two did. The main three people I told to watch it didn't even take a look at it. I did watch it, all of it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04And and and I and I and I and I looked at it, so you can't even talk about me. Did you finish?
SPEAKER_08I don't know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_04Oh, see, what's what what what finish and ain't even take a look at?
SPEAKER_00I know you ready to attack everybody, and you ain't even got the first okay. Come down.
SPEAKER_02Nigga, I heard finish the anime would be the black McCoy. Started the anime, got triggered, and didn't finish it, would be Kaze. So if you want me to be specific, I wasn't trying to be specific, but if you want to be specific after finishing what you talking about, did you finish it?
SPEAKER_03I've been watching on Netflix, so are there episodes that are still going? It ended.
SPEAKER_08You know, I gotta be careful with you because last time you recommended Redo of Healer, and you know, I didn't recommend Redo of Healer, I was a supporter of Red O of Healer, everybody hated Redo of Healer.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, I loved it. No, I think that would be great. I did not recommend it. That anime is actually amazing. Um, it is pure quality. I feel like you're reading.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh. Okay, so back to the current limit.
SPEAKER_08You might as well watch an anime in a in a species review or screen.
SPEAKER_02Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_00All right, so that one is no company. If you are a nigga of culture, oh my god, you love so I'm gonna go back to the second.
SPEAKER_10Is Redo Healer the guy who was like abused and and then he ended up like abusing his abuser? Pretty much, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Like hentai, pretty much. Yeah, it should have been just more each.
SPEAKER_11No, it should have been more hentai.
SPEAKER_12It wasn't in the hint.
SPEAKER_02It was on the hentai side. It should have been in the hint of the section.
SPEAKER_10One of the websites I was looking on did not have it in the hint of sort of actually was recommended by somebody to watch it, and I'm like, okay.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, it's it's pure it's it's pure torture porn essentially. It wasn't. And so if you're not into that, if you're not into it, you know, it feels bad right now.
SPEAKER_02We weren't even talking about torture porn. It literally was blue period. We were talking about an artistic anime. Where did we go? Why are we over here anyway?
SPEAKER_10No, I did finish Blue Period. Joe, you and I will talk more about this later.
SPEAKER_03You made her take off the blanket. She was just like, so yeah, I was um Blue Period is an anime uh about a high schooler.
SPEAKER_02Uh uh, some may some may call a delinquent who uh was trying to decide what he was going to do later in his life. He was a bit of a studious individual, very intelligent. He was seen as a delinquent, is what I said.
SPEAKER_03Um I did not get that.
SPEAKER_02Uh the other art students literally looked at him and said, Is he a delinquent? Like they verbally.
SPEAKER_00He was because of his friends. His friends were guilty by association.
SPEAKER_02But he was a very intelligent student, very studious, uh, able to, you know, get pop out A's and B's, specifically A's. Um, and then all of a sudden he came across an art piece by his senpai. Um, uh uh that you know completely you know touched him in a different way and made him consider to go into art, like just left, oh Miss Skittles. Uh made him go into uh uh decide to change it to art. Um and in doing so, he kind of just left fielded his entire uh uh path currently he had towards life and towards his career. And he decided I'm gonna, you know, major in art and I'm gonna try to get into an art school. Uh, specifically Tokyo University of Art, I believe is what it's called, or Tokyo Art University. I forget exactly which one it is. Um, but he now goes Tokyo University of the Arts. That's what it is. Sorry. Um, so now he's on this road where he is learn literally from scratch because he's never gone into art before. So he's learning from scratch all of the different types of art techniques, uh, colors, palettes, hues, uh uh tools, easel types, um, the inspiration behind it, the concepts behind it, body art, just all different types of things until he gets, you know, uh to the point where, you know, he even goes into a um a art school, uh preparatory uh art crash course to prepare himself for the uh Tokyo University of the Arts uh examination, intro examination. It's it's just it's so interesting to for me personally, um, and as I told some of several of the panelists, it was interesting for me to watch the anime and understand from the artist standpoint when individuals talk about their art, when individuals ask about art, when individuals interact with their art exactly what's going on in their minds. I am not an artist. Can I use Photoshop? Yeah, but I'm not an artist. Um, so for you know, people like you know, Kaze and um Dr. Quinzel and Miss Skittles and the Black McCoy and Joe TSG and Sayone and even uh Shamie B, for them who for all of them who specifically uh do art in a variety of different ways, each it's kind of like Erica Baidu says, I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my shit. So each of them have their own reasons and purposes behind why they they take the step forward into uh being artistic in however way they do it. And how they do so, I feel like each and every one of them uh can see parts of themselves in Blue Period, which is why I keep shouting it from the rooftops because it helped me understand better how to interact with artists personally. Um, like I'm not gonna lie, back in the day I used to like say, What's taking you so long? If I can program this website in a couple hours, you can finish that piece of art in a couple of hours, right? It shouldn't take you that long.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you want to buy it? Okay, right.
SPEAKER_02Right. You might completely insensitive.
SPEAKER_07He he he slightly did that the other day when I said when I said when I said I commissioned, he was like, Oh, it's gonna be done by the 18th. No, sir.
SPEAKER_08I just we just talked. Y'all did say it's me.
SPEAKER_02So no, we know it's we know it who it is. Yeah, it's you know, being able to understand, you know, what it takes to put forth the effort to be artistic and you know, use your skills and talents and gifts to be able to create these, you know, wondrous pieces is, you know, I think it's very beneficial for anyone. Just to, you know, don't have to watch the entire thing if you can't, but you know, a couple of episodes, I think you'll you'll get a new insight into uh what artists have to go through. And not just even, you know, uh uh painting artists, musical artists as well, any type of artist, you can show see some of the thoughts that go into doing the work, some of the uh uh the pains, the angst that goes into it, the happy, the highs, the lows, all of it. Um, um the main character, uh character, Yatora, uh, when he's interacting with his friends and he feels he, you know, he just now started into art and he feels like um I don't want them to know I'm into art. I don't want them to know that I'm changing my mind into art. And, you know, because when he talks about art and when he talks about you know hues and colors, and they kind of have that, you know, that the fuck you talking about type of you know mentality or response. And he he he becomes closeted almost. And he's like, I well, I can't talk about this with them. I I have to hide myself. And it isn't until you know later on in the in in this in the season where he's talking to one of his friends and he finds out one of his friends is into is in the cook, is in the is is uh going to school for culinary, uh for baking and for a pastries. And he's like, Wait, why didn't you tell anybody? Well, I would, I thought, you know, I wanted to make sure, and I thought you guys would, you know, make fun of me. And he's like, well, it's the same thing he finally, you know, like for lack of better words, came out and said, Um uh, you know, I'm into art. I'm going to the art institute. And they're like, really? And they're excited for him, they're happy for him, which which changes him in a in a specific way where he feels encouraged uh uh by his friends specifically. And you know, the same thing with his parents, uh uh, because you know, their biggest thing was they don't have the money to send nobody to, you know, a big name university, especially not Tokyo. So, you know, he felt discouraged on that front until he he got the courage to say something and say, Well, I'm going for it. I don't care what you say, I'm going for it. And then he was able to get that backing from his parents that he wanted. Um, and until it got to the point where he finally needed to realize everybody's behind you now. The only person left is you to encourage yourself and to believe in yourself and believe in what you're doing. And uh he finally did it, you know, in the 19th, 13th, 38th hour, uh, when he was, you know, actually in the midst of the uh entrance exam. But it's like I said, the artwork is gorgeous. I know a lot of it is based off of real, you know, art that they they they were able to interject into the into the anime. But uh the the pacing, in my in my opinion, I thought the pacing was erratic at first, but it once you get towards the end, you're like, oh shit. I like it it it for me, it ant me up. I was like, oh my god, this is it's so realistic. Um for me, I was like, shit, Yatara, what you gonna do, bruh? Like I felt right there with him. Uh so it it definitely walked me along with the story. Uh I thought that was really good. Uh, but Joe Tsg.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, actually, I wanted to follow up because I while I I think Blue Parry is is a good anime, the the side characters were actually a lot more interesting than the main character. You are completely correct. Um, and I wish it focused more so on like characters like um uh what's her name uh or his name, uh Ryuji. Ryuji. Ryuji. Yeah, like I I would have loved to come. Well, and that's what I would have liked them to expand it more because in the anime they kind of were like, oh, she he likes to like wear female clothes. Oh, it was like more they kind of applied it or hinted at it, but she never had that moment to where she like said, you know what, maybe I am trans, or maybe I do just like this specific aesthetic. She may not necessarily be trans, but towards the end. Did she?
SPEAKER_03Yes, towards the end. I think it's one of those, I think it's one of those things where like her story should have gotten more attention. I agree. I'm sorry, no, I was gonna say if anything, I felt like her story might have been better at the center, but because it was more so centered around um a relationship specifically to art in a way, um, or you know, art in the world.
SPEAKER_06I think that they didn't want to take away from that more or less, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, but also too, like not even just her, but also like uh what's his name, Yodasuke? Like, I would have loved to see more of him in particular because he is someone who is already great at art and and painting, but has lost his like inspiration for it. Yeah, yeah. And I think a lot of I think a lot of creatives can kind of relate to that as well, of being good at something or getting to a point where you're just no longer interested in it. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um I think that's sorry to interrupt you, but I think that's one of the stronger, I think his character is one of the stronger points of the the show because there are a lot of people, especially within our generation, who are just good, have have been good at a lot of different things or just been good at something. And then because you were good at it, people expect you to pursue it in some way, shape, or form, be it monetarily as a career, or as you know, some some way that is uh quote unquote profitable, but then you get to see the side, because you know, it kind of plays on this idea of, oh, well, if you enjoy doing it, if you're good at it, then you can work a day in your life. It's like, well, no, like part of the reason I enjoy doing this, or part of the reason I'm good at this, is because I love it. Yeah. And that natural affinity for it, it starts, you you get to see how it becomes very drained, uh, it becomes very draining, and you lose all the personality behind what you can do because you can just produce it. And because it also, I think it his character is a much larger conversation around, and you know, without spoiling too much about the show, but his character is a larger conversation around just because someone is able to produce, um, does that produce something? Um, does that mean that they should be not exploited, but you know, used or to continue to produce that same thing, regardless of the impact it might have on them and their relationship to it.
SPEAKER_00I feel like that's more so um Maru.
SPEAKER_03I Maru was the one who had the older sister, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the one that's like who also has uh is very talented and skillful in experience.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she's very talented. But I think I I think the story more so with Maru is just the the issue of legacy.
SPEAKER_00And the issue of legacy, but also too, like I I think that's literally it. Like that's all that they really expanded on her. Yeah, um, yeah, that was it.
SPEAKER_02And I think that that's what the brother was in, the older sister was in, and she was she was just trying to live up to that weight.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and because it became it at a certain point, it became like an expectation.
SPEAKER_02It's like, oh, I have to be like my other, I have to be like my sister. I was I yo, I was I actually started not I I felt crushed when she didn't pass. It and like you could tell she was just trying to like shake it off, and you know, of course, later on they you know actually showed the emotion after her breakdown, yeah. My god. Um, but yes, um I I I definitely I do agree. Uh there are certain characters, like you said, the side characters or the secondary characters, if they expounded more. I mean, honestly, they could have their own second and third seasons where they're focusing specifically on each and every one of them. Um, you know, I forget his name, you just mentioned it. Uh, but the uh because he was called, you know, the genius, there was an expectation. And of course, Yatora, you know, trying to stand next to somebody like him or uh Marty or, you know, any of the other people who have been doing this for years, who have gone to, you know, who've taken this test already, who've done it all throughout high school, just trying, even Ryuji trying to, you know, kind of jump in where, you know, he was kind of doing what she was doing, and just trying to figure out, oh, I can, you know, maybe I can do this. It was just such an interesting, um, like I said, road towards the end of the anime. But I do agree. Like, uh like even and now actually when I we got to more deeper into Ryuji's story. That's why I went to the Black McCoy and said, I think you should definitely watch this because there are certain topics and certain points that they're covering that I think you would, you know, find very interesting and intriguing.
SPEAKER_00Did they now? This is where I I think I because I didn't finish it, I think I stopped later on. But Haruka, did they actually expand on like what his motivation was behind? Not really a lot of okay, because he was interested, like his character design was interesting, which I love the I love the design, but we didn't get a lot about him. We didn't get a lot of okay. So maybe they'll have like a season two or something.
SPEAKER_03I was in my final like kind of note on the show is that I think the most interesting part about the main character is when you find out like he actually wasn't really good at anything. He was just he well, let me ask it, he wasn't really good at anything, but he was more he was actually good at learning how to do technical stuff, which which is what made art that much more difficult for him because he could learn, he was, he was always studious enough to learn how to do compensate for what he wasn't able to do by quote unquote working hard and learning how to do those things. But you but it showed that when even if you have like a technical ability, a strategic ability for or you know, whatever, right? When it comes to art, those things will only take you so far. Like, yeah, you can you can produce, you can understand techniques, but there's a there's something very intangible and non-technical about creating, you know, this kind of abstract, true concept of art that you cannot attain through technical ability alone. And the the way the show like tries to beat that into him to the point where you see him basically physically go through like an anxiety attack, uh, trying to reach that point and fully understand it. And he touches it briefly in the series, but even after he touches it, he's like, Oh, let me just replicate what I did that one time. It's like, no, that's not going to work, that's not going to work again. It's not the same thing. You can't capture that lightning in a bottle and say, Let me, you know, re let me like mass produce it again to make the same thing and do the same thing I did before. And I think that it's it's so telling about how it's interesting, because I myself have always been an artist, even when I was little, because like people always try to get me to draw stuff when I was little. Um, and um the way in which a lot of people who are outside of a certain, I'll say a certain degree of artistic ability just did not have an attachment to the I'll call it more so, I'll call it more of a spiritual relationship to art, insofar as there's there's not a technique. There's not there's nothing that you can do to push to create something that is of substantial value. It's like when you see um art people who you know um who are artistic, who create a work, and it's like, uh, this isn't really that good, and like, and you're like, what do you mean? This is amazing. Like, no, it's it's not good, it's not good art. Um, and not being able to connect with understanding the why the reason why it's not good art or the way in which it is not good art, um, rather than you know just being a good drawing or being a good painting or whatever. It the the show really helps try it, the show really makes an attempt to bridge that gap between um what it means to be an artist and what it means to be someone who's creative and a creator, and someone who is lower on that or on a uh uh well, not say lower, but on a different end of that spectrum when it comes to production and creation, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_00It's art history 101. As far as ish, yes, as far as interpreting certain like when they're when they're talking about specific paintings and they're talking about different artists throughout history, um, a lot of times they do highlight like the period and what influenced the painting and what the artist was trying to convey while with the certain mediums that they used. Um and I think where the main character I think is is great is that because he is someone that is very technical and he's like basically learning a new skill, you see those humble beginnings where he's like trying to find like his medium and and and his like the feelings that he's trying to convey. And like when he finally comes out to his friends and is like, hey, I like doing this particular thing, and he thinks his friends are going to like you know shame him for it, but they are actually happy that he's finding something that he's like you know happy about um and they like acknowledge it and and push him forward with it. Um I thought that was great.
unknownExactly.
SPEAKER_00I agree, that was beautiful. Um, but yeah, I there was a lot of things about Blueberry that I think um a lot of people would love.
SPEAKER_03It's also a good anime to watch if you need something that's comic.
SPEAKER_00It's very comic.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. And something that not slower paced, but like more grounded in in in real life and learning something about other people.
SPEAKER_00Actually, I think in a fun way it's it's almost like a painting painting. But the actual anime series as it like flows, it's like a painting in a sense. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, watch it, niggas. Those who are listening. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Um, so put the drain down and pick up Liberia.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no more narrow toe. He's dead.
SPEAKER_02He's dead. They're they're they're gonna keep fighting that one. So uh second anime is uh, and this is something that both myself and Joe TSG really enjoyed, uh, and are still enjoying because it's not over yet, is Ranking of Kings. OG Chat. Prince Boji. I love him. This this anime is so adorable. Uh, from the first episode, I fell in love with watching it. Uh, Prince Boji is a uh small little child, uh adorable little baby.
SPEAKER_03That's baby. Uh little nugget.
SPEAKER_02Uh both deaf as well as as people like a walking chicken nugget. Um, uh inability to you know speak properly or not properly, inability to speak actually, or understand, you know, words, if you will. Um, and the traversal through this storyline is him. Uh he was always promised he was going to be the next king, but uh what's happening in the background, in the in the behind the scenes of this kingdom is so ridiculous that nobody expects what the fuck is happening. Um, backstabs, uh reincarnations, body swapping, uh uh sorcerers and uh uh the woman in the mirror. Um uh just it's like at first when you start watching this, you didn't even know the magic was a part of it. And then they kind of just slowly integrate different people having magical abilities into uh the show. Uh but the main premise, of course, is uh Boji and his uh best friend and number one supporter, Kage, the shadow, uh, on this uh kind of quest, if you will, to help Boji be the strongest in the kingdom. Um, the kind of one part of the storyline is uh what the ranking of the kings is, and that is each of the kings in each of the different kingdoms and principalities within the world are uh they have a uh kind of a curator who comes to each of the kingdoms and measures the strength of each of the kings. And then that's how you get the rank is a ranking of the kings. Uh and in this particular world, I think Boji's father was number eight, if I'm not wrong. I might be wrong. I'm not 100% sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't remember.
SPEAKER_02I think it was, I know it was in top 10. I know it wasn't number two, I believe it was number eight.
SPEAKER_00Um we'll look it up.
SPEAKER_02Um yeah, we'll look it up. Uh, but uh, so you know, of course, he wants to follow in his footsteps. But one of the biggest issues with Boji is Boji cannot, as it pertains to the the royal swordsman's uh uh uh the strongest swordsman in their land, he can't hold a sword properly, so he can't practice proper sword fighting. And you know, whenever I hear somebody say that number seven, seven, thank you. Uh, whenever I hear somebody say that, I'm always thinking, I'm like, is it that they can't use a sword properly or they can't fight the way that you teach? Because just like every teacher can't teach everybody, not every sword's master or every martial art is for everybody's body. I mean, you could try hard, but you may you ain't gonna learn everything, um, unless you're Batman, I guess. Anyway, uh, so with you know, this storyline, you know, the the grand swordsman is trying to teach Bojan to no avail. He is just not picking it up properly. He can, you know, hold a stick, but a sword he cannot. Pineapples. Um, so during the storyline, he has this uh in the first two episodes, he has a sparring match against his brother. And everybody's like, yo, Prince Dida is gonna is his brother is gonna whoop his ass. Mind you, it's his younger brother, he's gonna whoop his ass. Like it's gonna be hands down. Even as even the step, his uh Boji's stepmother, Dida's real mother, is like, yeah, y'all are joking, because I know my two sons aren't about to fight because Dida would whoop that ass. Um, so, but in like right before the end of the first episode, we find out one of Boji's special abilities, which isn't like magical in any way, shape, or form, it's based off of um what he learned in training over the years growing up, which is he's very swift. Uh, he damn near can't be hit by any attack. And that only gets better as time goes on. He goes through more intensive training. But uh Dida is trying his damnedest to hit this dude with this wooden sword, and he is missing in every swing. And then, like, and Boji can't hold a sword properly, so he like taps him on the head. And it pisses Dida off because he's like, if you don't let me hit you, and he kind of goes just like on every side of his head and just pisses him off. But then, like, some of the other swordsmen around are like, What you're doing, Boji, is not uh it's not uh sportsmanship, it's poor swordsmanship. Dodging is not the sword's way, the king doesn't fight that way, so he feels bad because he wants to be like his dad, the king, and he stops dodging. And Dida whoops that ass because, of course, he holds the sword far better. Uh, he actually fights like the king did back in his heyday. Anyway, so that's just the first episode. As time goes on, like I said, so much other shit unfurls uh with the story that you are not even like by the time you get to episode three, you're like, is this the same story? And then when you get to episode five, you're like, What the fuck is going on? And now we're at episode 13, and I'm like, Oh my god, Boji, hurry up. Uh, so this is a very interesting anime. The art style is very precious. Boji is adorable. Um, you just gotta watch it. Take your time, watch it.
SPEAKER_00For those who are uh big on art style, it's it's almost like a watercolor painting, the way they actually and also very reminiscent to like very early on, like 2005, 2003, like animes. Actually, probably earlier than that, to be honest.
SPEAKER_02Like an Astro Boy type of the Dragon Ball type thing.
SPEAKER_00And I will say it I was kind of turned off because I was kind of like, what year did this come out? Uh I kept watching and oh my god, it's it's it it the story starts off almost like a storybook. Yeah, and you start to you start to see a lot of like you you think they're starting to you start to see a kind of a uh kind of like a cliche type of thing happening. Like you start thinking, okay, there's uh the two princes, they're fighting over for the the throne, yeah, type of situation, when it's not that at all.
SPEAKER_02At all.
SPEAKER_00Um highly recommend it, honestly. It's if there's one anime that I would say watch, it's that one. Yep. If anything.
SPEAKER_02Like you, you know, remember that storybook that came out years and years ago? It was like the the fairy tales we all read and the real stories behind them. Like, that's what it felt like. It was like it's like this storybook that's starting up, and then all of a sudden you see all the tea in the background, and you like fill my cup, and it just it just it's overflowing.
SPEAKER_00I think Sayone would like it because there's and actually Miss Skittles, too. There's some action in there too.
SPEAKER_02There's action. I think Miss Skittles would like it. I think Sayone. I I don't know if Sayone would like it all the way.
SPEAKER_09I I appreciate art. I like art.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I don't like it is it is something that does like kind of work its way through. Yeah, you you have to give it some time. It's like there's certain characters that need that kind of need to be set up a little bit, yes, before you can really understand their motivations for a lot of things. Um, not too, it's not like you have to like wait three episodes to find out you know the the queen's intentions and stuff. No, like even though she's a episode, like don't do that.
SPEAKER_11See, see, see that's not even true, and that's you gotta get to episode 13.
SPEAKER_03That's okay, but she was rude to my baby. She was a bitch.
SPEAKER_00Actually, no, not a way, not at all. And actually, it was like episode three or four. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_10Okay, I could you see I could I could do three episodes, I could even do four, you know. I could do three, four. I just can't do eight episodes of bullshit. No, no, no, no, no, no. I could do that. That's fine. That's fine. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_02If you have time this week, watch three and then we'll circle back and see what you think. How about that?
SPEAKER_00Well, you'll be spot in tomorrow, probably. So oh, that's true.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I I could I could watch it tomorrow. Just drop the the names one more time. And blue period, I was um, I was really like nodding my head in agreement to everything that you're saying. Um, you know, I think all of us who either love art or into art or we have different mediums of art that we work with, um, I appreciate it. Um, because especially what just um I didn't mean to go back to blue period, but especially when um it was to do art and then trying to figure out if you should do for for profit. And um, I think Suchi and uh the Black McCoy really hit that for me because that's my biggest, that's the biggest battle that I have right now. And I think a lot of class players or or artists battle with that because like you don't want to do something and then hate it because now you're not doing it for what you love, but you're doing it for other people. And so that is um that that that that's something that really hit home to me. So I definitely will look into both art, um, both animes specifically for that. You know, sometimes I don't want to watch Shonen, um, I want to watch something different. Um, even some essachs are okay, but it's more so about how it's being, I would say, brought to me. If it's something that's like just campy and it's it doesn't like bring me in, I'm not gonna like it. Um, but if it's something that's beautiful, I can do different types of anime. So blue period and the one that you were talking about just now, I'll definitely check it out for sure.
SPEAKER_02Awesome sauce. Anyone else have any input on Blue Period before I move on to my third one?
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Uh, so I was actually fighting for my third one. Um, because I like I said, everything else would be honorable mention. I'm stuck between these two. One of them I know Joe TSG will is watching as well. And then the other one, I don't know if anybody else watched this one, but I'll see in a second. So I'll just go with that one and then everything else will be honorable mentioned. So the third one I have is Fena Pirate Princess.
SPEAKER_00Um I absolutely I dropped, I hated it.
SPEAKER_02You hated it?
SPEAKER_00Okay, we'll talk about it. I'll let you follow up while I'll let you get through your we'll talk about it in a second.
SPEAKER_02So uh Fena Pirate Princess. I honestly at the beginning, the first two episodes, I was like, okay. Well, actually, what was beneficial is the fact that I didn't jump on until they were already on episode four. Like I didn't even know about the anime. So I had already I had caught up, well not caught up, yeah, caught up that day. And I caught up like those first four episodes. I was like, oh shit, okay, I'm I'm invested. Because Fena Pirate Princess is uh you really think it's about to be a pirate princess, and it's it's really not that. Um, but the uh the uh the main character, Fena, she, you know, you come across her, she's pretty much living in a brothel, and but she's still a virgin. And uh, it's the day that she's supposed to be deflouered by some random like uh aristocrat. And then these two random old guys break her out of the brothel and like try to save her, but then like the uh the aristocrat sends a bunch of thugs to go and capture her again and the like knock out the two old guys, and then right before they're about to take Fenner, um, these random samurai come out, these samurai and ninja come out of nowhere and then like slaughter all the thugs. So now if I say it that way, sounds kind of interesting, doesn't it? That's pretty much what it's like.
SPEAKER_07It's like, what the fuck is going on? What the fuck is going on in this anime?
SPEAKER_02That's all about uh so that's how it starts. And then in the second episode, now you know they're sailing on the sea in this like rickety boat, and they eventually make it to this kind of like island type of place where the ninja samurai they're called the oh, I'm gonna get it wrong, and I don't want to. Oh man. Um it's like the goblins of the uh uh not the goblins. Joe T. Did you remember what it's called? They're like the gremlins or the goblins of the of the field or the battlefield. Wait, who? The ghouls, uh, the the the the samurai, the ninja, the the seven samurai?
SPEAKER_00Hmm? The seven samurai?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Like what's the name?
SPEAKER_02Aren't they like the ghouls of the battlefield or something like that?
SPEAKER_00No, they're just the the seven samurai that live on goblin island that they don't have like a specific like name.
SPEAKER_02See, the name of it is goblin island, that's what it was.
SPEAKER_00Um, I don't know if there's a I don't know what their ships are called, but they're why you're looking for it. Um, hold on. Let me oh goblin knights.
SPEAKER_02Goblin Knights, yes, the goblin knights of the battlefield. Um, and they're called that because of how aggressive and just rude as hell that they were slaughtering people on the battlefield. And it's in a lineage of these knights uh that grow up on Goblin Island, and their main purpose is to protect this lineage of people. And Fena is a part of that lineage. So without going too deep into it and spoiling anything, too much of anything, um, like once you get to like episode, like once you get halfway through, the story changes, and you're no longer just Fena the Pirate Princess. Now it's coming something different, and now like they kind of slowly integrate like religion into it, and then then they integrate like the world's end into it, and then they integrate like reincarnation of humanity, like it's a whole bunch of shit that happens, and it's so interesting. Um, so for those who will stay on the ride, uh, I'm not gonna take you for a ride, but Fanapire Princess will. Uh, so I think you should definitely thank you. I think you should definitely try it. I think you should definitely try it. Um, if you are because they they they have a very interesting combination of kind of edo period uh swordmanship skills while still being in a uh I don't know what to call it. Uh what do you call it? What it's uh uh Kaze or Joe TSG or Black McCoy. What do you call it when it's kind of like machinery, but in a kind of uh not modernized world? Steampunk? Is that steampunk? That's what I was about to say afro punk. I was like, that doesn't sound right. Yes, so steampunk is a concert. That's a festival that's been colonized by I think that's what it was. So a kind of a steampunk environment where you know they're they have these, you know, uh steam-powered boats and submarines, but they're still kind of in a very uh uh uh dated environment. But then when you go to different parts of the world, not nothing is modern modernized, but certain parts of the world they're not, you know, kind of living in a breath of the wild type of environment, if you will. Anywho, uh so yes, uh Phantom Pire Princess, but Joe Tia, you had something to add to that. Start at episode like four. Four. Ah crap, you gotta keep going.
SPEAKER_00No, I mean, start if you're going if you're interested in the show, start at like episode four, because one, two, and three, one in itself is just like Fina's backstory. Yes, and it's slow and boring as hell.
SPEAKER_11A little.
SPEAKER_00And episode two and three, it's like, okay, they're trying to protect her, and she's like running off and shit, like a toddler, and that is infuriating. Episode four, it's like, okay, now she's she's she's learning from her past mistakes. Yes, true. And it starts to kind of kick off.
SPEAKER_02But all the but all the actions in the fights in the first three episodes are at least worth watching.
SPEAKER_00And that's why I said if you are someone who like needs like a like just something to grasp you, start an episode four because episode one, two, and three, you're gonna drop it like I did.
SPEAKER_02Fair enough. I can't argue with that. Anyone else? Did anybody actually watch it?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I actually watched episode one and I was I was pretty fine on it. I just uh forgot about it. I thought someone that told me to watch it. Okay. Um, and I was like, oh, okay, yeah, that's cute. And uh it was on my uh invisible docket of anime. I watched it the invisible docket. If I was watching anime, you would be on that list.
SPEAKER_03Oh I was busy doing other things, but right now, but but no, you was on the list, girl. You was you was there.
SPEAKER_02All right, so now I'm gonna go through my honorable mentions. I'm not gonna take too long on this, trust me. Uh, so uh of course one more thing, one more thing, one more thing.
SPEAKER_00Um say one more thing and then no, it's because no, so I was going to say if you're a fan of uh Fina Pirate Prince, there's a the same person that did the the creator and director also did the character design for Final Fantasy Unlimited and Samurai Shampoo. Yes, samurai shampoo is how I felt. I was gonna say if you're into if you like those art styles or character designs, you're gonna probably like Fina.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, samurai shampoo is how I felt when I was watching it. Yeah, art wise, yes, yeah. Um the wait, somebody had music. It wasn't that one though, it was something else. Okay, anyway. Uh yes, so of course, my honorable mentions World Trigger. Whoo! Uh the third season. Okay, okay. Go ahead, take your time. All right, I wasn't gonna go into it, but go ahead.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I'm gonna have to do like our recommendations for the semi-season. So, I mean, uh honestly, then he's an episode in it, so I haven't even um yeah, but what uh she hasn't watched it, she hasn't watched it yet.
SPEAKER_07No, I haven't even done my watch yet, so like I'm saying y'all y'all got we we do it a whole lot here.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there we go.
SPEAKER_07Okay, my recommendation yet. So god damn.
SPEAKER_00I was thinking any of us have yet, because we were just giving the three that we were like from the.
SPEAKER_02She hasn't done her first recommendation.
SPEAKER_00She hasn't? No, no, baby. Lord, it's two o'clock. Wait a minute.
SPEAKER_08All right, let me so let's let Ms. Gilles talk.
SPEAKER_03Okay, go ahead, Mr. Let's table the honorable mentions.
SPEAKER_07Oh, okay. Oh, I thought I thought, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_04We wasn't we weren't moving on without you, these turn.
SPEAKER_07So I had I had I had my shit like wrapped up in a a pretty little boat earlier, but now I'm over here, over here like whatever.
SPEAKER_04Um got hungry, open the package, taste something like y'all been checking too long.
SPEAKER_07The the anime that I watched um that I would highly recommend is called 86. Um, it's actually on a second season that dropped. Um but um basically uh sci-fi like mech political type junk. I don't typically like like political animes when they start getting into you know wars and territories and things like that. But basically, um the 86, uh there's like the white-haired bitch in here too. Oh, I see why you're you ain't actually uh like she's she's neither here nor there for me. Um but um the the 86 are are basically like and they're like outcasts, like there's uh there's a war going on between the I think it's the Gideon Empire or something and the Republic. There are uh 80 85 districts in the Republic. They kind of rise in Hunger King, but anyway, so anybody outside of the the 85 districts is considered 86 or people they it in the anime they call them people of color, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But um because they don't have white hair and blue eyes, yeah.
SPEAKER_07The people of the republic are white-haired, blue-eyed, perfect, perfect, yeah. That like they're the that whole like super arianation, yes, ultra ultra instinct, yes, and the people of the republic are under this whole impression that this war is going perfectly, nobody died, like we we win it all day, every day, but the war has been going on forever, forever. Meanwhile, these people who who are in charge of the war, the the um what are they called? The ALBA, they call them the ALBA.
SPEAKER_02The ALBA niggas is phoning it in using VR and AR. They they fucking uh quote unquote fighting the war every day by going to their offices and and and put and putting on a headset.
SPEAKER_07Yes, I'm sorry, virtually in command of the 86, which are the the people who who are actually doing the the real work out here fighting, and and they're not fighting other people, they're fighting fucking mechs. Yep, fucking mechs, robot controlled mechs. Robotic, yes, like an artificially intelligent mechs. Um and um so in the first season, the the the main, I feel like the main protagonist is uh Major Lana, who who is uh uh Alba who is she thinks differently from other people. Like she she she's um a con what is are they controllers? Are they called controllers? What are they called? Handlers.
SPEAKER_05Handlers, that's what it is.
SPEAKER_07She's a handler, so she gets on a little virtual thing and direct the the people, but um the 86, but a lot of the handlers, a lot of the Alba are under the impression that the 86 are not actually people, they're just they're just robots that they control. But they're actual people out there in the effects uh fighting for the country. So um Lena takes a you know, she's like takes the extra effort to get to know um her group of the 86, which is called the Spear Hitters, who is um who we meet we at in the second season. Uh turns it turns out in the second season he becomes the the main protagonist. Um and his name is Shin. And um he's uh he basically like him and his crew are fucking the like the shit. All they know is war. All they all they do is like kill, like, and and he he's like I don't know how to really describe him. He's like he has this passion, like he has this passion to him uh about his people, and it and it just I I just love his his character. And uh in the second season, we we see more of like what makes him tick and and things like that. So I uh really enjoying that because in the first season it was it was mainly about the republic and uh major Lana. And we kind of saw from her perspective it's uh it's like um it's almost racial. It's like uh yeah, it's like white people versus everybody else, and and and we see like the through the eyes of a white person who actually wants to know what's going on with people with color, and then and then we switch over to season two to a person of color who's who's fighting for their life, literally, but then at the end of the day, when they're given you know the opportunity to be a part of societies that they didn't know existed, like people who are who are willing to accept them, all they know is war. So um, yeah, I just love I just love it. I love the whole dynamic of the anime, it's so much deeper than what's on you know what we're seeing on the surface level. Yeah, um, the fheo the choreography is gorgeous. It's so vibrant, Kaza.
SPEAKER_02You gotta go back. You got you gotta go back, you gotta go back.
SPEAKER_07It's so good, it's so good.
SPEAKER_02The choreography is so good, and uh because like it's literally people having it's people trying to outwit AI, yes, but like like people in Gundams, or not Gundams, but mechs trying to outwit AI mechs, it's so lit, like it's so dope.
SPEAKER_07And and there's there's this little extra aspect of it where AI uh is like uh impersonating human beings, yeah, so much so that it fucks with the psyche of a human being because you're you think you're you're like this I know this person, like I'm fighting somebody who died and I love right, but it's it's wild. The whole sh is so bad. Yeah, so um the second season is over. Um some wild shit popped off. Uh what whatever happens in the third season, I'm hoping that's when when we when they bring bring back Lena and and the Republic, and and we and we see them come together and see how that that's about to flush out. Cause um I thought for a minute there, I thought it might they might have had a little love interest going on, but you know, who who knows? Because Shin Shin is on a he's on a whole nother level. Yeah, he's on a whole different level.
SPEAKER_02That's why they call him the Reaper, The Undertaker.
SPEAKER_07The Undertaker dog. But yes, uh, highly recommend the 86 uh super dope, super dope.
SPEAKER_02Yes, okay. So now, real quick, now can I do my real quick honorable mention? Oh, hey okay. So, like I said, World Trigger, third season. Uh, I've nominated the last time uh at the last actually the last three anime reviews it did. I always nominate World Trigger. My go and watch it. It came out years ago, they finally brought it back. Go and watch it, please. Um uh I watched this with uh the Black McCoy. It's purely for humor. Uh, please don't try to take it seriously. If you're expecting a shonen or anything like that, don't watch it. Um, The Fruit of Evolution before I knew it, my life had made it hilarious. Um Um I've seen nothing but bad reviews about this.
SPEAKER_07I follow the we said that's why I said don't watch it.
SPEAKER_02Don't watch it. Um, I watched this, I've heard nothing but bad reviews about it, so I'm not gonna suggest it per se, but I enjoyed it. Tesla note. Um, it's about the the shards of uh uh Nicola Tesla. It's actually why I gave y'all that question a couple weeks ago.
SPEAKER_05Oh lord.
SPEAKER_02But people hated the CGI, people hated the storyline, people hated the casing. Uh yeah, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I enjoyed it. I like the little dancing thing at the end, too. I will say, out of all the like CGI shows that we've recently had, it was probably one of the best ones. Right. And the see the first episode was a was interesting, but there were other things that I would rather watch. So um, yes, make this fast.
SPEAKER_02Okay, sorry. Uh Sakugan, which I was watching with the Black McCoy. I I love the story, the the the uh relationship between the father and daughter uh in the underground. Uh, and then the storyline that builds after that, uh, I think is a really good story. Um, then of course, uh, I think most of us are watching Faraway Paladin, but it's still going on, so I kind of want to wait for the screen review, and we'll talk about that then. So we'll come back to that. Um, Banished from the Heroes Party, I decided to live a quiet life. I loved it. It was so quaint, but there's like so much stuff going on in the background. So um, yeah, that was my last one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can I just throw in three real fast? Sure, okay.
SPEAKER_07Oh, I'm sorry, can you repeat the last title?
SPEAKER_02Banished Banished from the Heroes Party. I decided to live a quiet life.
SPEAKER_09What okay? So, what's up with these animes with incredibly long sentence titles? Like, I can't keep up with this shit.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it's like it's like you can said you wouldn't.
SPEAKER_03It seems like an isekai thing.
SPEAKER_00It's an isekai thing, but also you can blame an isakai. I said it seems like no, it's a it's an isekai thing.
SPEAKER_03Oh, thing, yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you can blame Marx people for that, though. The manga readers, because they love a they long, they love a long ass title. Maybe not parts of the shit, but they love they love a long, like very random ass title that ex explains perfectly the anime, but it's just like, why?
SPEAKER_10It's like a phrase, like with the with the that time I was reincarnated as a slime. It's like a whole fucking sentence. What is going on? That was a sad one.
SPEAKER_03I was reincarnated as a spider, so what? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's my favorite. That's my favorite. Don't you shake your head, Miss Skittles.
SPEAKER_03Listen, don't don't let Miss Skittles shake her head because I know it was a spider. I was like, no, the anime was amazing. It was a spider.
SPEAKER_00Wait, but let Joe T as you get. Let me throw these three real fast because I'm not trying to go into three o'clock. So uh life with an ordinary guy who reincarnated it into a total fantasy knockout. Woo! Jesus, okay.
SPEAKER_12Hey, no, no, no. That's the stuff for next time. That's the stuff that just started.
SPEAKER_00Oh, well, this is also an honorable mention. You need to need to watch this shit.
SPEAKER_11Uh, well, this is the start of your list for what you want to watch.
SPEAKER_00Explaining it, I'm just saying to watch them.
SPEAKER_02I know, I'm just saying this is the start of your list for what you want to watch next. Okay. So continue.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay. Yeah. Well, how long are we doing this? Man, damn. All right. Uh, Miss Koretsu uh from Monster Development Department. Great. Watch it. Uh Tokyo 24, watch it. The Rowdy Rough Boys are in it. They're their main cast.
SPEAKER_02How dare you?
SPEAKER_00They are. Not really, but they look like the Rowdy Rough Boys.
SPEAKER_08Joe, I mean, yeah, Joe, can you put your list in the chat? Sure. So that way we can. Yeah, okay. Thank you.
SPEAKER_07I was about to say, what the Rowdy Rough Boys are.
SPEAKER_05Sign me up, man.
SPEAKER_00Oh, but you but you will see the resemblance in them very early on. I mean, as soon as you watch the anime, as well as their personalities kind of mirror it a little bit. It's kind of interesting.
SPEAKER_09Is it the Raspberry Rough Boys from PowerPoint Clubs? Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, the Black McCoy, your list for what you want to see next.
SPEAKER_03Uh, for what I want to see next. There's one I started recently called the World Strongest Sage with the weak with the strongest sage with the weakest crest.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yes, let this one.
SPEAKER_03That one very happened. There's another one that I uh might be a hand tattoo. Not a hand tattoo. There's another one that I wanted to start today that is a very interesting premise. It's called The Land of Leafale.
SPEAKER_11It's about uh Yes, I loved it. I'm loving it rather.
SPEAKER_03It's just yeah, I'm not gonna give you all the premise, but I definitely want to start watching it. Um there was one more shit. Um oh, Orient. Orient of starts. Uh it's only two episodes in, very interesting. Um, definitely really excited for what they have going on. It looks wild and crazy, but I'm sure it's gonna get a little bit more tailored as we go on. Um, things excited for um next next season of the Misfit Demon King comes out this year. It's also really a dope. Um, also, Tanya the Evil is finally returning. I'm excited. Um, girl, Tanya's coming back. Yes, Tanya is coming back this year, girl. I'm excited.
SPEAKER_00Yup, we're gonna be in a house. Great. We're gonna be in a house.
SPEAKER_03Fuck birthday parties. We're just gonna be watching anime.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we got Zoom. We'll see each other.
SPEAKER_03Right. That's uh that's all I got, right? That's all I got right now.
SPEAKER_02Okay, Kaze. Did you have anything for spring uh or coming soon? You're on mute, mind you. Oh, that's you, yeah. It looked like you were talking, but I was like, well maybe they're talking, but maybe he's talking to himself. So it's fine.
SPEAKER_04Oh, my little seasoning going to waste. Try pepper my shit at it over here. Uh gotta obey it. Uh was there was anything I like that came out just now. Nothing, nothing crazy's coming to mind. But uh was it uh uh Shield Hero season two? Yes, Lord. That'll be here in uh March. Uh uh that one, I'm pretty sure. Well, someone uh well, I guess they mentioned the manga. Uh uh Chainsaw Man. Yes, uh it's gonna be uh transformative, amazing. How dare you, my body is ready. Uh uh uh spy and family.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes, yeah. Wait, I could have sworn we said three. You just said like five. Wait a minute. No, no.
SPEAKER_04No, I'm just gone. Oh, how dare you?
SPEAKER_02The rest of us thought still need to go get away to last.
SPEAKER_03I'm going, I'm going quickly.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03Like now you hold me up.
SPEAKER_04All right, I'll be done. And now I'm done. Let me just throw in realist hero season two as well.
SPEAKER_00Realist Hero Season Two, everything. Keep going. Okay.
SPEAKER_07I'm I won everybody didn't expect being for years now. Um, it's gonna be bleach.
SPEAKER_09That was it, there was one more out of this. Is it supposed to drop fall 2022?
SPEAKER_11You October, I believe, right? Or December.
SPEAKER_10Uh um, I think it's December of 2022. I'm incredibly excited for that.
SPEAKER_11I think everybody is.
SPEAKER_10Have y'all seen the trailer report?
SPEAKER_02But I watch it. Yeah, yeah, Kazakh keeps playing it, so we keep watching it. That's I love that song.
SPEAKER_10Um I'm super excited because the full bring art, the uh arc that wasn't apparently canon was fucking trashed, and they should have just left it as Aizen being defeated, to be honest, watching the anime. So for them to like redo it, I feel like this is kind of like their redemption because so many people were fucking pissed off with that last arc that they did.
SPEAKER_00I was actually gonna ask that question. Do you guys know if they're taking directly or is it starting directly after the last arc in the anime, or is it like are they redoing that arc because it was not redoing, they're okay.
SPEAKER_04It's a direct they the the the manga just went on and finished and they just never animated. Continued it. So we're just finished. Yeah, the last war arc is fucking insane.
SPEAKER_08It's like a thousand-year blood ward or something like that. Yep, yep.
SPEAKER_00All right, I wasn't sure if it was like a whole car captor Sakura thing or something.
SPEAKER_11Yay, shampoo bracelets. Do you have one?
SPEAKER_08I mean, I think Kaze said one of them was this chainsaw man, and then the other one. Oh well. Um the other one I would say is bubble. I watched the trailer on Netflix. The art alone just snatched my soul. So I was like, oh, okay, I'm gonna watch that.
SPEAKER_10But those are the cloud, if you don't mind asking.
SPEAKER_08You know what? I didn't really catch that in the trailer. I was just too mesmerized by the art. And I but watch the trailer on Netflix though, or I'll put it in the chat. Okay, all right.
SPEAKER_10Um, I was uh I'm very excited for the continuing of Demon Slayer. No one's really said it yet, but I mean the Demon Slayer, like with Nezuko, what like she just snatched my fucking wig that I don't even have on, all the map. I mean, she just sent the fuck out of me into the atmosphere, and I just oh my god, and um bleach, of course. So the those two for sure for me, I'm my my whole entire soul is ready. So my soul is my role, my soul is ready, my cosplay, because I'm I'm I've always wanted to cosplay the crazy scientists from Bleach, like since I first saw him in high school, and like I I just can't wait to see Mario Kuchiki, I think it's his name. Ugh, just I'm just excited for this year.
SPEAKER_04So you have to fight the fight, he has is just as insane.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, he's he's in he really is insane. So, but I I love insane characters. I usually gravitate to the to the wicked and insane. I'm not wicked though, you know.
SPEAKER_04No, of course not.
SPEAKER_10I mean that's hard.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely not.
SPEAKER_10We wouldn't dream of saying such, of course, but yes, so definitely Demon Slayer, um, for sure, and um and bleach.
SPEAKER_02Awesome. Does anybody else have any before I give mine? No, no, no, uh no.
SPEAKER_07Yep, I'm gonna think can we can we say a tag on Titan? Because it's already happening.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, no, that's something we're looking at. I mean, I thought Shampoo Braces was gonna say it, but yeah, that's something that's out now that we're expecting.
SPEAKER_00Don't say anything, don't say anything. Some people haven't said if Suchi did.
SPEAKER_07No, I'm I'm just saying the theme song, the the opening song.
SPEAKER_00It's fire. I'm ready for the thing. Oh, yeah, that's right, I am ready for the end, but that that opening theme song was fucking amazing. Oh no, it was.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it is, it is. You know, you y'all already know that's near and dear to my heart. I don't need to repeat it.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you gotta repeat it for the people who haven't heard us before.
SPEAKER_08Hey, listen, they done heard me say all throughout this podcast that attack on Titan is fire. You need to fucking watch it. If you ain't fucking watched it, then that's your fault.
SPEAKER_03Oh yes. You sound like the nigga on the street corner selling cigarettes.
SPEAKER_00Oh yes, oh yes.
SPEAKER_11So my expectations, huh? What'd you say?
SPEAKER_00Oh no, I was gonna say I added it to my gym list. That's it.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um, uh workout playlist coming soon.
SPEAKER_02Lord Jesus. Oh, actually, yes. So we'll talk about it in a second. Yes, so my expectations uh winter 2022, how a realist rebuilt the kingdom season two. I loved it. The first season, season two is back out. I'm so excited. Uh, from common job class to the strongest in the world, season two. I'm excited, it's amazing. Alpha, get it popping. Uh, the case study advantages part two. Season one was phenomenal, it was gorgeous.
SPEAKER_11And here we go.
SPEAKER_09Well, well, wait, was it?
SPEAKER_11Let's not do this. Let's not do this right now. The episode's already going on long enough.
SPEAKER_00It was good, it was good. It's good. It's good.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Uh so uh oh, and I'm surprised. I maybe I missed it. Maybe somebody said it. I didn't hear it. Maybe Kaze said it, but rising of the shield hero 2. He did suppose he's coming back out. He did say that, just making sure he said it. Yep. Um, also uh the time I was reincarnated as a slime coming back at the end of this year. Just heard about it recently.
SPEAKER_00No, go ahead. Not they they pushed it to 2023, but anyway, no, they didn't. Yeah, oh my god, yeah.
SPEAKER_09Why is there a new hockey show coming out?
SPEAKER_00It's yeah, they're they're pushing it. I believe they're 2023.
SPEAKER_02That just hurt.
SPEAKER_00I didn't need to um I was still but there's but there is a great reason why.
SPEAKER_02So it better be a movie because that's that's literally all there can be.
SPEAKER_00There's a great reason why.
SPEAKER_08There's a movie.
SPEAKER_00There is a movie coming out.
SPEAKER_04I guess. I guess I'll just wait for that, I suppose.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right. Well, that was my last one because uh I'm I'm all full out of steam. Um actually I'm watching a bunch of other stuff, but it doesn't matter right now. Uh, we'll post, of course, all of the things that we listed um in uh on our Facebook. Uh so if you want to discuss any of the anime uh that we have previously watched, or if you want to talk about as we watch the newer ones in winter and spring, uh, we'll be on our Facebook, we'll start a dialogue, a conversation, or you can DM any of our panelists. Well, maybe not any, because some of them don't want that. So we'll have them talk about it in a couple seconds. Um, and then of course, uh, we plan on doing a couple of things in terms of uh some of these animes really soon. So please look out for that. Uh, but now to round up and wrap up the uh episode, of course, going to give the opportunity for all of our panelists to introduce and also say how they were uh how they can be reached. So I guess we'll start with shampoo bracelets. Uh, who are you? Where can you be found? And uh where can they talk to you?
SPEAKER_08Um, so you can find me on Love Creations on Instagram. Um, we're currently doing a collab with Miss Skills. Her stickers are on our website, her top 10 favorite things. Go check it out, go check it out. Sales are live right now. Um, you can also find us on at shampoo bracelets on Instagram as well.
